I’ve recently just purchased it for only $300 along with the Xbox series s for the same price. This will be the first time that I had a Xbox since the 360. I mostly had PlayStation for most of my experience from the PS2 to the PS4.

@@hartfantom It's a fact of life for SSDs. Look up "SSD life expectancy" and "SSD write cycles." Data can only be written on a storage cell inside the chips between approximately 3,000 and 100,000 times during its lifetime.
yes but most of them can write anywhere from 600tb and up of data over the lifetime. so yeah, I wouldnt move 100gb games around a lot, but a few moves a year arent going to kill the drive
Great video! A. Why are we going back in time 25 years with memory cards? B. Who the hell though 1TB was enough base storage on a next-gen console? C. $$$$$
I mean the cost of the NVMe drives in the next gen consoles are pretty expensive on their own, so it's just not feasible for them to put say a 2TB drive and still charge $500. We will probably see 2TB versions later on when the price drops on the drives.
I have watched a few videos about this expansion card. What no one talks about is this type of device (solid state storage) does not have unlimited writes. So copying the came over to your internal storage every time you want to play it is going to shorten the life of your internal storage. How much? depends on how much you use it.
While that is true to an extent, today's modern SSDs have an EXTREMELY HIGH durability for writes. Just doing the worst case scenario on writing to an SSD (which even the most hardest of hardcore xbox user would never get close to), that drive will still last about 50 -100 years. So that's really not an issue anymore.
Western digital now makes SSD expansions for the series x now, in the same sizes! Prices have come down to $200 for 2Tb versions, $129-$150 for a 1tb. Give it a year or few and we’ll start seeing 4TB versions when tech and production methods advance for the civilian market.
I have had my series s coming up on 2 years now and I have only used external hard drives. I just ordered the two terabyte model from Amazon for 270. I can't wait for it
I would have preferred the consoles to have say 4-5TB and be insanely expensive but I have to admit having both the 1TB and 2TB card. They do help alot with game and space management. Probably the most I've spent on a console + accessories in my life but I do love what I get from high quality gaming and the cards themselves so I personally can't complain about the price.
Forgot exactly where I read the information; but to my understanding, the 2tb $400 expansion card has faster read/write speeds than the internal 1tb SSD inside the Xbox series X & 1tb $200 expansion card… Can someone clarify this for me? What is the actual read/write speed of the internal SSD vs the 2tb $400 expansion card? T.I.A.!
I only purchased it because I plan on keeping my series x and s for yeeeeears. I actually love remote play and it requires downloaded games. Over time that adds up,especially with all the games that are only playable via internal storage. Price sucks still but that’s were we are in 2022
Just got the Series S today actually it’s my first Xbox I’ve ever owned always been a PlayStation guy (still am) wanna see if the grass is greener on the other side with that being said I’ll definitely be picking up a 2tb SSD in the future for my Series S.
I currently have a 1TB expansion card and although the 2TB won’t be an immediate purchase I will end up buying it. I think you are missing a huge point. Most new games are HUGE! That being said my internet is slow. I don’t have a lot of download speed so I really need to store everything I might want to play. Mind you I also have a 5TB ext HDD which I upgraded shortly before I got my series x. I was just out of space on my old 2 TB ext hdd. That’s important I was already out of space before the series consoles. Now with the them converting games to upscale my “designed for series x/s” alone takes up almost all of my ssd storage. As you pointed out it is super annoying transferring between internal and external. The 400 usd price tag is ridiculous I can’t deny that. In my situation all you can really do is shrug and say well that sucks give them their money and move on. Lastly sometimes* there is a difference between game files destiny 2 for example download it on a regular Xbox one a non series. Then using your external try to transfer it over to a series console it won’t work. So if you are going to play the library shuffle game just be aware some games require different versions.
1TB should be enough if you’re casual or don’t game very often. PS5, I had to go 2TB because those games eats up space very fast. Plus I saw the Samsung 980 Pro with Heatsink 2TB for less than $300 and I couldn’t refuse.
I have terrible interent so this will make my life way better, being sble to store a large catalouge of gsmes rather than tsking hours to install and uninstall games on a consistent basis. Its also 30% rn on amazon so big up.
I’m a casual gamer couple days a week. Got a 2tb external ssd and 1 tb hdd and it’s a pain transferring games all the time. Looking at getting the 2tb seagate external ssd for less hassle over the years I’ve got 350 games now
one of the biggest problems i have is slow internet. i wouldn't mind deleting old games and installing new ones to my internal if it weren't for the fact they take weeks if not a month to download.. which is part of the reason why i like to archive as much as i can since i never know when i'll be able to play a new release.
Great video!! Personally I think this a tad over priced I think 300 personally would be more reasonable and even then I still think that’s a little high but more justifiable.
It’s ridiculous! But, storage costs always go down. HDDs use to cost hundreds of dollars for just a few hundred gigs. It will just take time. The frustration for me is I don’t want to have to transfer games from an HDD to the internal storage. I feel forced to buy a Seagate NVMe 🥲
Thing is. This is a must. I started in the N64 then PS1 day. So, I remember my PS2 memory card was 128MB. And it went so far. Memory has bigger and bigger each generation. I remember the Xbox 360 going to GB and that seemed loads. So, 1TB on my Xbox Series X. I thought you’d never come close to using that. Oh boy. It’s not even remotely close to being enough. All my games are digital an installed now. And they’re BIG files now games. So, 11 games in. Memory near on gone. Fallout 4 and Skyrim with 100’s of mods. All my memory is totally gone now. So, I have no choice. I just have to pay this Seagate 2TB expansion pack. It’s on offer ATM at half the price nearly. £189. I mean the thing costs nearly as much as little baby Xbox Series S. So, only Xbox Series X owners like me will be getting this. If an Xbox Series S owner bought this. Why go for the budget model. TBF. I doubt they’d have issues as much with memory. As they won’t be running mods. Have as much games etc. WOW. I just checked, and the Xbox Series S only has 512GB. Christ. That I could not live with. The memory alone is why I couldn’t have that consoles! 😂
@@AreYoOk don’t ask me. I guess, some people had crazy saves. Game like Final Fantasy at the time used a lot of SPACE. Also people use put no game things on it. It’s been so long. I can’t even remember. I’m pretty I need two memory cards, as they just didn’t have enough space. But, I can’t remember if that was the PS1 or PS2. It’s all so long ago. I’ve got so used to console having the memory now. I switched the Xbox from the Xbox 360 onwards, and they all have the memory within the console (I know the PlayStation did from that era on too). What is crazy. My Xbox Series X has 1 Terabite of space. I was thinking, Jesus, I will never use all that space. It’s silly, I kid you not. It’s not even remotely close to being enough. Not even remotely. As I downloaded all games for the store now (and even if you have a disc, it has to be downloaded onto the console doenst it. I don’t know. I just don’t buy disc now. No point). These games, next gen, are like 100GB+ EASY. Barely save 6-7 games in your library, I have to keep deleting and re-downloading games!
I just got the 512 gb… it’s expensive but such a cool toy, I have the Series X…. I’ve been a long owner and fan of Xbox since the original and played the first halo over and over back in the day

400$? That's it? I wish the 2tb storage would cost that much here in Germany. As of now the cheapest offer you can get is 467€(!!) - that's about 535$(!).
For a tiny little card that cost more than the console should be illegal and the seller who is selling it for over 300 dollars should be locked away in prison and rot!

I waited a year. Did the whole redownloading things didn’t bother me or my wife who were both on series x cause we share plus my rig. She works from home for the cable company doing business so we got business internet here so I could download games pretty quick. The WD black card came out for the series consoles. Which made seagate drop there’s for the same price. So was able to get the same card for 149 no tax up here for 1TB under the price of the 399 for two 1TB for both our x’s. Always better to wait.
There is no option to play the XB1 version of games that are series games because Smart Delivery isn't optional. The only exceptions are games like AC Odyssey and Skyrim that got optimization patches, but not Series versions.
Hey. This is the best video on UA-cam about this product. But over 2 years later this still hasn't dropped in price. WTF lol can I get a reply please? I'm thinking about buying this. I'm a hardcore Xbox achievement hunter with too many games, & not enough time to play them, and good internet speed in the US
The simplest reason why this expansion card is expensive: Transfer rate is much faster than USB-3 SSD especially during gameplay. For instance, I was looking for 128GB micro SD card for my camera. While browsing I noticed the 2 cards have same amount of storage but the price is different. The 1st SD card has 8MB/s transfer rate with decent price while the other card with 10MB/s is bit expensive. I might buy this expansion card if there's promo or discount ie. Amazon Prime Day, Black Friday deal.
My biggest concern is will these expansion cards be compatible on the next gen Xbox? I'm pretty sure Microsoft will support it because they're expensive storage solutions. People would be incredibly mad if they paid all of this money for 1 or more cards and they don't work.
I have an 8tb Seagate Hub+ for external storage. Until Microsoft offers a better storage option, I'm good with supposed limitation. I currently have about 70 games installed and it only took up 2TB. About 5TB left.
Please help me with a answer. I looked up so many reviews..and no one seems to mention this... If i buy the 2 TB.. how much storage can i use after installing it. Can i use the full 2TB or is it like 1.5 TB?
$400 🧐😲🤯 for an memory card but if it's needed for backing up my Xbox Series X, I'll look into it when I get sponsored and promoted soon. Great work here. I wish my budget could get this 😓😭
After software update series x backside USB ports stopped working i plug a harddisk behind my xbox and a Samsung SSD for captures now those both usb ports doesn't work i feel really forced to buy this i want from atleast to capture my gameplays
They've pulled a sony or ps vita memory cards which were stupidly expensive. You could put your large games onto the internal storage and use a external drive for smaller games or just leave them till you want to download them again, has microsoft remember what youve purchased in your games collection.
No clue why this card is controversial. I bought it for my xbsx. Microsoft is literally charging the same amount of money as any nvme drive. I just bought a 2 tb drive for my ps5 and it was also $400. Memory is expensive atm. Nothing we can do about that. The only con I see is that it’s a proprietary drive while the PS5s isn’t and can be reused outside of gaming.
My gaming PC currently has 1.5TB(1TB and 500GB M.2 SSDs) for gaming while also having 2TB HDD for other stuff. I think I can live with just a 1TB expansion for my planned Series S purchase.
I have 8TB for my PC (4Tb Samsung 870 QVO SSD, 2TB 980 Pro Gen 4 SSD and 2TB 970 Evo Plus Gen 3 SSD), 7TB for Xbox Series X (4TB Crucial MX 500 SSD, 2 TB Seagate Expansion Storage, 1 TB internal) amd 6.85TB for PS5 Disc Edition (4TB Samsung 870 Evo SSD, 2TB Samsung 980 Pro with Heatsink Gen 4 NVME, and 825GB internal).
I had to buy this ssd and it's because my Xbox fills up really fast. The price sucks though but it's needed. Since games nowadays take up a lot of space. Especially if you have the Series S it's a must.
I can't remember. Since I ordered it from Amazon. But I think you can add that. But I didn't added since I was gonna be charged double well in my case.

Even with no external drive, I still have 5-7 games on my Series S, and I can shift playing these games, which are enough.
I traded in loads of stuff plus my 1TB expansion card to get store credit. So I only paid £50 for my 2TB Expansion Card in the end. Also have two 4TB External SSD’s. I might have an expensive set up. 😂

If you are truly commited to gaming its worth it and almost necessary. If you are just a casual gamer you probably dont have enough games to fill the internal storage and its not worth it. You have to know you and this will make your gaming setup very expensive!
Think im going to invest in the 2TB expansion its a pain having to keep transferring. 1TB holds 10 games 2TB can hold 50 games. So come payday think ill get one. Ive just come from a XB one X to a series X
I'm warning if they're ever going to put like oh you can keep all the games on your console but not the full like you got a little space that takes a maybe one or two gigs and all that is is like the boys file so when you delete not installed you don't have to do the whole thing it will just keep like a little archive file on a console with a little bit of the game so instead of taking 10 hours to move things around and re-download different things it will take light a few minutes cuz you have like a part of it already there😢 12 terabyte outside hard drive
when all you do is work there's never enough time to play, i still have games from 2 console generations ago that i never got around to let alone this current generation and i still keep buying them like an idiot lol most adult gamers only purchase the idea of being able to play them while at the check out hypnotized by the graphic art that's fueling to our delusional infatuation with being able to have time to sit down and play a whole game through and we need a place to store all of them just in case there will ever be an opportunity to play them some day lol that is why big storage exists its a place where we store our false hope lol
Are you, me?? I look at my games Library and feel shame and irresponsible I finally have a good enough job to afford things I would want. But no time to use them. Yeah, the way it’s formatted/shipped to you makes it come with less storage. The 1 TB model comes with, I think, about 920GB. And the 2TB comes with about 1.8 TB. It does suck 😔
I can’t run the games at all off a usb 3.0 drive - it’s weird but I thought I could play them off a usb hard drive and the only thing that wouldn’t work is the next gen features etc. and not for nothing but the 550 they are charging thru the affiliate link is ridiculous and I would rather buy another series X and have a 2nd system set up in my house than to buy that.
Anyone else ready for the $3,000 5tb storage drive in 2 years when the next version of the Series X comes out? I can't wait to get scammed a third time
I keep the games which I play on my Xbox. When I'm done with one, I uninstall it and install another. This way, 800 gigs internal storage is more than enough for me.
Sure can! They’re also “hot-swappable”. That means you don’t even need to turn the console off to unplug one, and then plug a different one in. You can unplug a 1TB and then plug in a 2TB right from the Xbox dashboard if you want. Thanks for the comment!
I jus rather copy and transfer games thru hdd way faster than redownloading. I always leave 120 somethin gig on the internal and jus swap and transfer. So I always have room to transfer
These are literally overpriced CFExpress cards, but designed in such a way that they only fit in the Xbox. Yeah they're great if you want to expand your storage for Xbox Series X|S games, but it's honestly not as simple as how the PS5 handles storage expansion with a common M.2 NVME 4.0 slot. These things cost as much as the console itself.
I picked up a 1TB earlier this week for 150 quid on eBay, once I’ve got the 10% cashback from Complete Savings and 1% from my bank card it will have set me back £133.50 so 163 USD approx. Have to point one thing out here you’re incorrect when you say Xbox Series X/S games can still be launched from a USB drive. They cannot. Only some enhanced (but not upgraded) older titles such as Division 2 can, as well as all Xbox One/Backwards compatible games. Upgraded X/S games, or X/S versions of games, physically won’t launch but will instead tell you that you need to transfer them to internal storage (or to a storage expansion card). Your video infers that they’ll still launch just not at the optimised level…this is incorrect…they won’t launch at all.
You can launch the xbox one version, like I said in the video. You can NOT play Series X/S optimized games. You can play the xbox one version of any game from a USB storage device on a series X/S, like I mentioned

I can't wait for it
I'm considering getting it once i get my Series X.
It's surreal to me being able to hold a 2tb card in the palm of my hand, I'm only 22 and clearly remember thinking that the ps2 8mb cards were huge 😂
Lol same here man 😂😭😂😭
I only purchased it because I plan on keeping my series x and s for yeeeeears. I actually love remote play and it requires downloaded games. Over time that adds up,especially with all the games that are only playable via internal storage. Price sucks still but that’s were we are in 2022
This clarified a lot for me. I appreciate it!
Happy it helped!
Looking at getting the 2tb seagate external ssd for less hassle over the years I’ve got 350 games now
Also its £400 gbp
Also it’s £400 gbp
one of the biggest problems i have is slow internet. i wouldn't mind deleting old games and installing new ones to my internal if it weren't for the fact they take weeks if not a month to download.. which is part of the reason why i like to archive as much as i can since i never know when i'll be able to play a new release.
Imagine with $900 you could buy an Xbox series x and a discless PS5 🤦🏽♂️
I'm pretty sure the PS2 memory card was only 8MB.
@@SushiPizza42 nope.there was a 128MB. Look it up
@@jasonprendergast7493 since when did a ps2 need that much memory weren’t games like a few kb💀
Not 512 gb you can only use 380
I’ve been a long owner and fan of Xbox since the original and played the first halo over and over back in the day
Nice! Hopefully that 512GB version will hold you over for a while. Maybe prices will drop by the time you need more storage! 🤞🏻

@@merlin2962 450 gb of actual storage

400$? That's it? I wish the 2tb storage would cost that much here in Germany. As of now the cheapest offer you can get is 467€(!!) - that's about 535$(!).
Oh man, sorry to hear that. I hope the technology goes down in price soon…
Strangely enough the 2Tb has a 'faster' transfer speed than the 1Tb @ over 6GBPS, which I find weird as it's using the system/connection.
The momory controllers are different on each storage card thus the speeds will be different
@@RefinedRags True but these are made by the SAME company so you would think they would use the same memory controllers.
@@nigelnightmare4160 Higher Storage variants are generally faster even with NVME/SSDs even the same model.
For a tiny little card that cost more than the console should be illegal and the seller who is selling it for over 300 dollars should be locked away in prison and rot!
@@BladedJoker2 don't own a Xbox X, I got the S version, the Xbox X was pointless to me because most games don't even play at 4K. 😆👍 Those storage are still overpriced, they need competition so the price can come down. They're just being greedy.
Finally a video that answered my question
There is no option to play the XB1 version of games that are series games because Smart Delivery isn't optional.
The only exceptions are games like AC Odyssey and Skyrim that got optimization patches, but not Series versions.
you can, but you would have to own the disc and can't go online with it. which is impractical asf
Hey. This is the best video on UA-cam about this product. But over 2 years later this still hasn't dropped in price. WTF lol can I get a reply please? I'm thinking about buying this. I'm a hardcore Xbox achievement hunter with too many games, & not enough time to play them, and good internet speed in the US

Welcome!
Just got one today for 220$ brand new def worth it now!
My biggest concern is will these expansion cards be compatible on the next gen Xbox? I'm pretty sure Microsoft will support it because they're expensive storage solutions. People would be incredibly mad if they paid all of this money for 1 or more cards and they don't work.
Gamepass Heaven Storage 🔥 especially for series s 💪🏾
I have an 8tb Seagate Hub+ for external storage. Until Microsoft offers a better storage option, I'm good with supposed limitation. I currently have about 70 games installed and it only took up 2TB. About 5TB left.
You’ve got a great setup!!!
Ehh it's still annoying to keep switching the X/S games to the internal just to play them
Great video, very well done.from what you described, the 2 tb is the one for me.👍
Please help me with a answer.
I wish my budget could get this 😓😭
Hey Martell! Hope that happens soon! It sure is overpriced, maybe it will go on sale eventually. 😁
@@TweitenTech me too. That's way overpriced for a memory card for the Xbox Series S|X consoles
Yeah, NVMe storage is just expensive right now. In a few years it will be cheaper! Just have to bite the bullet right now if you want fast storage! 😁
Why the 2Tb expansion card goes at 6Gb/s and the 1Tb only 2.4Gb/s?
Newer tech in the 2TB model.
My gaming PC currently has 1.5TB(1TB and 500GB M.2 SSDs) for gaming while also having 2TB HDD for other stuff. I think I can live with just a 1TB expansion for my planned Series S purchase.
Nice rig!
@@TweitenTech Thanks! I got every pc part at a fair price. I would've gotten a PS5 or Series X if they weren't so overpriced now.
I have 8TB for my PC (4Tb Samsung 870 QVO SSD, 2TB 980 Pro Gen 4 SSD and 2TB 970 Evo Plus Gen 3 SSD), 7TB for Xbox Series X (4TB Crucial MX 500 SSD, 2 TB Seagate Expansion Storage, 1 TB internal) amd 6.85TB for PS5 Disc Edition (4TB Samsung 870 Evo SSD, 2TB Samsung 980 Pro with Heatsink Gen 4 NVME, and 825GB internal).
Wait for it to go on sale. I got mine on sale. Mine was 300 bucks. That’s the most I would ever spend for 2 TB.
I use a 1Tb SSD hard drive, it takes roughly 2-3mins to transfer a 60-80GB game to the internal drive. I download all games to the SSD and then transfer when I am going to play 3-4 games per month
What do you use for series x?!

Is it worth it getting a 2 tb bc I already have a 1 tb I got a month ago just take the 1 tb out of my xbox series x n swap in the 2tb I have like 3 games on system so id have nothing to worry about for 2024 games im set with storage for that year
So the 8TB external for pc from Seagate can work on the X Box Series X ONLY for all games except games made for the series X and S?
Is it possible to store Xbox optimized games on the nvme storage card and the rest on another cheaper external hard drive
$279 what a difference a year makes.
It is on sale for 199 so that makes it an easier choice but still expensive.
Only one id want is 2Tb. Unless that drops to same price as a normal nvme drive they can do one...
250usd my max for 2TB
Hi, can the card be taken out of the xbox and put back in while it's running?
Yes!
And feel this weight of responsibility to play the hundreds of games I've purchased and never touched. And then tell myself OK, I'm going to have to put some rules in place for my impulsive nature.
1_You don't even need to just "Glance" over at games section or Online games store.
2_ If you haven't even played the first game in a franchise, don't buy all it's sequels too. 3_Just bc it's on sale, you're not actually saving money if you never had any intentions of ever buying the game before. 😉
as someone who was born in the early 80s the first game system i had was an atari 2600 and then a nintendo and then a super nintendo and then a playstation etc etc i didn't choose to like gaming I've been conditioned at an early age to like it, no impulse buying issues and alot of my games i got for free or were discounted either on the online store or g2a or used from a game stop or game exchange store i never pay full price for any game if i don't have to, xbox one is almost 10 years old thats alot of time to accumulate games i can see having alot after a one year launch but in a 10 year span its to be expected to have a huge amount
Apart from the price £££ $$$! my main complaint is you DON'T get 1tb(1024Gb) or 2tb(2048Gb) storage. In my opinion it's a con.
Yeah, the way it’s formatted/shipped to you makes it come with less storage. The 1 TB model comes with, I think, about 920GB. And the 2TB comes with about 1.8 TB. It does suck 😔
Same as hdd's and all storage devices like micro sd's
2024 which way to go?
I use an external NVMe M.2 2TB and my games play fine.
I can't wait to get scammed a third time
Does it make loading faster?
I keep the games which I play on my Xbox. When I'm done with one, I uninstall it and install another. This way, 800 gigs internal storage is more than enough for me.
I only play 2 or 3 games at a time so I'm good. When I'm done I just move them into my wd black 5tb hard drive.
Sounds like you’ve got your storage organized pretty well!
honestly i just wanna keep my series x for as long as possible and to be able to have lots of games installed on it, so this may be my best bet…
Can you swap out the expansion cards if I was to buy the smaller cards over time for a cheaper entry point thanks
Sure can! They’re also “hot-swappable”. That means you don’t even need to turn the console off to unplug one, and then plug a different one in. You can unplug a 1TB and then plug in a 2TB right from the Xbox dashboard if you want.
Thanks for the comment!

Ps5 ssd deal is better now looking back after delays for storage cheaper for fast speeds
Where can i get 2 tb ???
These are literally overpriced CFExpress cards, but designed in such a way that they only fit in the Xbox. Yeah they're great if you want to expand your storage for Xbox Series X|S games, but it's honestly not as simple as how the PS5 handles storage expansion with a common M.2 NVME 4.0 slot. These things cost as much as the console itself.
I picked up a 1TB earlier this week for 150 quid on eBay, once I’ve got the 10% cashback from Complete Savings and 1% from my bank card it will have set me back £133.50 so 163 USD approx.
Even at that price I still feel it’s on the steep side but if you need one then you got to swallow it I suppose 😒
It is now 200 dollars which is still a lot..
I bought it for $279.00 USD. This price is good for it?
Will it make my Xbox series x games load faster than normal ?
No, same speed and your internal SSD
I live in Canada I’ve been trying to get a 2TB for years now I would pay the exchange rate
1TB Internal is too small I’ve been saying it for years
1TB should be the minimum internal storage option
If there was an option to exchange my current internal hard drive to a 5TB for example that would be greatly appreciated
I think 3TB is still inadequate and not enough space
I have 11 games currently on my internal drive I’m getting sick of moving things back-and-forth
Constant updates for no reason and filler or a issue
Halo master chief collection
Call of duty black ops Cold War/war zone/vanguard /Blah blah/blah blah
That’s approximately 1 TB & The mandatory update space required for both games
Half the games I own are not even on any of my storage device options
I’ve had to consider buying an 8TB hard drive or bigger
And don’t even get me started on the joke that is game pass all the games that I have owned digitally were removed from my consul storage or corrupted when I try to update my other storage device removed
I had to either re-purchase those games or just not bother
Months and even years later now those games are on the game pass and I still cannot access them
Yeah, I can understand your frustration! I hope in the future they make Xbox’s with much larger storage drives.
Thanks for the comment!
I bought one. Price sucks for sure, but for me a necessary purchase.
Might have to for future proof. GTA vi . I have 127 gb left it’s under 300
Have to point one thing out here you’re incorrect when you say Xbox Series X/S games can still be launched from a USB drive.
