@howdy9231 I have the first three albums of TJG with Joe. A couple "solo" LPs, "Barnstorm" and "So What?" And "The Smoker You Drink The Player You Get" on cassette.
Joe Walsh was a wild one though. He’s still around and still looking good. Still my favorite Eagle, although they are ALL amazing musicians. RIP Glen Frey
My dad mistakenly bought Joe Walsh's "Rocky Mountain Way" thinking it was John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High" (1972). It immediately became my (7f) absolute favorite record. The opening riff changed my life. No more Disney Soundtracks for this little princess. To his credit, my dad bought me many albums that featured incredible guitar solos after this. It may have been a desperate attempt to stop the constant "Rocky Mountain Way". Anyway, . . . IF you like electric guitar, . . . 😉 "Rocky Mountain Way " is worth a listen.
What a fantastic story! For me, same age, it was Smoke on the Water, heard on my 15 yo neighbor’s transistor radio. Still feel so fortunate to have grown up with so much great music.
"I have a mansion, forget the price. Aint never been there they tell me its nice" is true. Right before he joined The Eagles he bought a mansion in Santa Barbara. Then he went on tour for two years
You missed the entire point of the song. He isn't bragging, it's a sad song. He has everything that anyone ever wanted and he doesn't want it or doesn't need it. His friends think he has changed but it's them who can't handle his success that doesn't even make him happy. Some songs in the 70's were pretty deep.
Wait what? I thought I knew all the cameos, even the obscure ones. I'm gonna definitely need to spot that. Have you also noticed that Blue Lou is always in the Kennedy Center Awards band playing sax? His hair isn't as long but he still has that bushy mustache. They cut to him every once in awhile during the show.
This song is autobiographical. Joe was a true wild-child. The Eagles told him that if he wanted to join them that he would need to clean up his act. He did and he has shown up in a variety of TV show cameos.
Joe was an alcoholic through his early years with The Eagles. It wasn't until they were getting back together for the Hell Freezes Over reunion in 1994 did he get sober. He was a part of the band for Hotel Califonia (1976) and Long Run Albums (1979) the period between the breakup and reformation in 1994
@CBGB_1977 I thought Joe was still with them even on this last tour? Don Felder left but thought Joe was still there. Did see he was with the James Gang on tge Stern Show though. They played Walk Away and Funk #49
Joe Walsh as well as Peter Frampton were learned to Master the Talk Box! Remember MB we didn't know what auto tune was! We just assumed our music would never change, artists would have pure talent. We would always have our concerts planned out and i miss those days. Our bumper sticker reads "We got to SEE all the great bands" Love your reaction
He was brought in to replace Bernie, the original 2nd guitar player of the Eagles. They want more credibility as a rock band. Funny story. Joe Walsh is great! Mega talented and doesn’t take himself seriously and that’s an awesome combo! He said in an interview “one of the most terrifying things that ever happened to me is Keith Moon decided he liked me.”

The Stand Up Comedian of Rock and Roll! The man. Laughing out loud watching you try to make sense of it. It's an auto-biography! It was his life in the 70's. Take it all in brother.
Mollyboy, this whole song is tongue-in-cheek. Although a lot of what he says is true (he did trash hotel rooms, etc.), he's really just mocking the rock star image. His fans are clearly in on the joke - Maserati and millions in the bank don't mean sh&t to Joe, he's as down to earth as they come. I knew his step father, George Walsh, a bit (he used to live in our building until passing away a few years ago in his mid-90s), but unfortunately, never got to meet Joe himself. But the dad was just like the son. Once we (my wife and I) met him, it was at least 2 years before we found out that he was Joe's father, because he didn't make a big deal about it. But in retrospect, we should have known something was up, because we never saw him when he wasn't wearing an Eagles t-shirt or baseball hat or denim Eagles jacket. Once he told us about the relationship, he explained that before each Eagles tour, Joe would send him a big box with one of each kind of Eagles clothing being sold for that tour - all in his size of course. How cool was that? Anyway, sorry for the long story, but just wanted you to know a bit more about the guy. (This song was from his solo career of course - not part of the Eagles original songs.)
Joe went to Montclair HS in New Jersey. He was briefly in a band with my neighbor from the next block called "The Chessmen," that might have been his first band. They were on "American Bandstand," or some similar show, and at one time there was a B&W video clip online of that performance. I watched them jam a few times but never really got to know him (he was a year ahead of me). Joe was very generous to his MHS classmates, at least once when the Eagles were touring nearby, he gave everyone free tickets to great seats.
Awesome story. Like I said, I never got to meet him in person, but from things his dad told us about him, it sounds like something he would do. Wasn’t Joe’s mother a piano teacher or something? I think his dad told me she was some kind of music teacher, but I don’t remember. George Walsh, Joe’s dad, was a huge classical music fan. We noticed that he was going to, symphonies and ballets and such almost every day when they were playing at Lincoln Center in New York. When we asked him, he said Joe bought him season tickets every year. This was after Joe’s mom had already passed away, so Joe really seemed to take care of his dad from a distance, given that Joe was living in California at the time.
@@Avicenna10 Nice that he took care of his dad--I believe he was Joe's step-father. Back in HS "The Chessmen" played at some small local venues, one was a church that held Saturday night mixers to give the teens something to do other than getting into trouble. They were basically covering the popular songs of the day. One I remember was "Gloria," which had just come out on the album by "Them" headed by Van Morrison. Those were the days.
@@curtadams7406 yes, George Walsh was definitely Joe’s stepfather (I mentioned that in my original post), but they were very close It seems, from what I could tell. Thanks for the additional color on Joe’s early days. Fascinating stuff.
Any video you watch of late 70ish Eagles Joe is off in his own world and it looks like it's a hell of a place - he is an absolute giggle his interviews are amazing. When the Eagles got back together for the Hell Freezes Over tour he wanted to go- but the rest of the guys told him that if he didn't kick the booze and drugs they weren't having him... he did and he went on the tour. As far as this song, he was taking the absolute piss out of himself and that whole life he was leading. He straight up doesn't take himself seriously even now. He is an amazingly genuine guy and does an absolute shit ton of charity stuff.
This is my husband's favorite guitar player of all time! I paid for my him to see the Eagles live in the the early 2000s. We could only afford 1 ticket, so he sat down with his beer and said it was the greatest show he's ever experienced!
The sound you asked about is made by Joe putting a tube in his mouth and making that sound with his voice. This song was from his drunken wilder days, he said once that he didn't know he had a drinking because he only had 1 drink that lasted 30 years. He's completely sober and dry now❤
In the video you watched for hotel California , Joe was one of the two guitarists playing the final solo together. Joe was playing the single neck guitar and Don Felder was on the two neck guitar.
Joe's had a long & varied career! His solo work & his stint w the James Gang are equally as great as his work with the Eagles! Love this crazy genius! So glad he's still around! ❤❤
The usual answer to "what's making that noise" is a synthesizer. There are 3 synth parts in this: a bass part, that 'rubber band' sound and a little bit of another synth sound in the bridge. First thing you need to know about Joe Walsh is that he's an absolute nut, in a good way! In the Hotel California video, he was the one wearing the red bandana on his head and doing some goofy grins, oh and ripping it up on the Telecaster. Many of these lyrics on this song are very 'tongue-in-cheek'. That's just Joe. Gotta love him. Thanks for listening and sharing! Peace from SF
Another fun way to see Joe doing his own thing was his episode of Live At Daryl's House. Really fantastic. Especially his solo on the Daryl Hall song they ended with, Someone Like You.
Joe Walsh saved the Eagles. They were seriously in decline when he joined and then they went into the stratosphere. He's a quirky guy with a huge library of bangers in his wake.
Well, that's not at all what it was like. That's quite a revisionist version of history that I doubt most people have ever heard before. Now, if you said they brought in Joe Walsh because Glenn Frey had always been trying to give the Eagles a harder edge from the beginning, which was why they had already added Don Felder, then you would've been right on. But they were definitely not in decline or anything remotely of the sort before he came along. Hotel California was a big selling album, absolutely, but their previous album, "Greatest Hits 1971-1975", is still their biggest selling album, as it was at the time, and Joe Walsh had absolutely nothing to do with anything about it. You can’t say a band was in decline when they have just had 5 multi-million selling albums in a row before Walsh was ever in the band. OK, have a good day. Cheers!
Joe Walsh had a long career before he joined the Eagles in the mid-70's. His original band was James Gang, and their stuff is great. Then he did several solo albums and collaborated with many others. He was invited to join the Eagles, and their sound became much less country and much more rock after he joined. Other trivia: he sold his Gibson Les Paul custom to Jimmy Page when Led Zeppelin and James Gang were touring together in the early days of LZ. That is the guitar that made Jimmy famous. He is also Ringo Starr's brother-in-law; he's now married to Ringo's wife's sister. Joe tours with The Ringo Starr All-Star band on occasion.
Do you know Keith Moon? He and Joe Walsh were the inspiration for the wild rocker stereotype. After concert parties that damaged hotels. If I remember correctly, Joe often carried a chainsaw because if they couldn't get connecting suites, Joe opened up walls himself. 🤣
There's a great story about Joe and Ozzy partying for days. When Joe came around, they were on the Concord, heading for France. Both of them went missing while their bands had to cancel gigs until they were located
Joe Walsh is such a character. My 2 favorite quotes of his (RE: Funk#49) "If I knew it was going to be a hit, I would've wrote something better" and more recently "It was better to be in your 20's in the seventies, than to be seventy in the 20's"
The CLOWN PRINCE of Rock! Joe Walsh was the power in James Gang (THE BOMBER, FUNK #49, WALK AWAY), but really took off solo (ROCKY MOUNTAIN WAY, IN THE CITY, ALL NIGHT LONG, ORDINARY AVERAGE GUY, ANALOG MAN etc.). He also joined EAGLES. That percussive sound is an African Thumb Piano. He was a real party animal - "Joe Walsh - a great bunch of guys." was a real quote from Glenn Frye.
Joe Walsh is a treasure. Well-known before the Eagles with his band The James Gang. Try "Funk 49" by them. And as a solo artist, try "Rocky Mountain Way". He is very well regarded as a guitarist and is very funny, too (as you might be able to get a sense from Lifes been Good).
Btw... Joe Walsh is somebody you have to watch. He is so funny and he really enjoys what he does. It is a bright and it is hilarious to watch him perform
Also, Joe Walsh is the inspiration behind Tom Petty’s song Don’t Come Around Here No More! Written by the guitarist of the Eurythmics(forgive me his name slips me) after he was partying with Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac. Joe was dating her at the time but they were in the middle of a fight & I guess Joe showed up the next morning, banging on the door & Stevie kept yelling, “Go away! Don’t come around here no more!” Rock N’ Roll!! I wish I could go back!
Joe Walsh is considered by music critics as one of the bast guitar players in music History. On this song, he opening kick and snare of “Life's Been Good” are joined after four bars by Walsh's Les Paul played through a Fender Twin Reverb; each time the pattern repeats itself, another electric guitar is layered in, using an assortment of Fender Twins, Tweeds and a Champ amp, miked with various condenser microphones ...
My grandmother first heard this in 1982, she was in her mid-60s. She loved it, said it reminded her of things she & others had done when they were young.
Joe Walsh was a guitarist and singer for the James Gang and the Eagles. He has so many songs both solo and in groups. Funk 49/50, Rocky Mountain Way, Hotel California, In the City, Life’s been good, and on and on. Thank God he made it through addictions and is making great music again. 🖖🏼
Joe Walsh will always be remembered as one of the Eagles guitarists 🎸...but he is a genuine genius away from them. His solo stuff is amazing..... you should listen to his album " The Confessor"....my god it is so good, really eclectic in styles but the guitar cuts through on every song like a hot knife through butter.
Lyric where he says "I live in hotels, tear out the walls, I have accountants pay for it all" is accurate, Joe was infamous for trashing hotel rooms, throwing TV's out windows and all that
You crack me up. Your face is like a little kid tasting something new for the first time. Cautious with a touch of, "Hmmm. I'm not sure." Then it goes to something else, and you go right back to cautious. Then you start to discover you like it and smile a little. And sometimes I'm not sure if you like it when you're concentrating. But when you do and the smile (or the "Yo!") comes out, it's so fun. Lol. Keep going!
The part about tearing up hotel walls is in reference to he and Kieth Moon ( Moon the Loon) drummer for The Who (R.I.P.) blew up a hotel bathroom- got lifetime ban from that hotel chain for that one.
This song fits Joe Walsh’s personality so well. He’s a very funny guy. Give a listen to A Life of Illusion and Walk Away (by Joe’s old band James Gang)

Agree! That vid is really good 👍
This song is the amalgamation that is Joe Walsh. Completely showing off his talent and why he is where he is. Then admits to his crazy antics as well.
Joe Walsh for President, 2024. ✌️😎
Haha!
@@KrazyKatLadyx2 atta girl. 2 votes. 😁✌️
I will second that😂
@@johnathanstruble1064 I voted for him in highschool, so I'm good to go again
I'D BE "IN"!!! :) 😎
You are growing on me😊thank you for appreciating my music.
Cheers!
@@dggydddy59 I can say it because it's exactly what happened. Thank you for your opinion however. 🙂
You need to find a live version of this song to really appreciate the greatness of Joe Walsh.
My favorite is at Daryl's House.

The confessor will blow your mind
The Confessor will blow your mind! From his JamesGang days back at Kent State - Funk 49! There is much, much more... ENJOY!! 😊
Joe waltz is one of the few people who is so likable he can superflex and you just love him more! 😂
There is nothing better than the looks you get when there’s something you didn’t expect! Love your channel MollyBoy!
My fave. “ At the Station”.. gets me every time. Joe Walsh is a guitar god. Listen to his guitar in “ THOSE SHOES”.
Oh man, I forgot all about those shoes. great song.
"Those Shoes" is an incredible joint‼️🔥
PLEASE react to it MollyBoy⁉️☮️❤️🎶
Joe Walsh is such a character. My 2 favorite quotes of his (RE: Funk#49) "If I knew it was going to be a hit, I would've wrote something better" and more recently "It was better to be in your 20's in the seventies, than to be seventy in the 20's"
Thanks for reacting to the FULL version ❤
Yes, James Gang “Funk 49” is a must listen for you🤓
The CLOWN PRINCE of Rock!
Dave Stewart? That makes sense, it definitely sounds like Walsh, alright
Joe Walsh will be your new favorite 70s guy.
Rocky Mountain Way ! You won't regret it
Greatest lyrics ever 🇨🇦🤘
The look on your face when the guitars kicked in was priceless. You were hooked.
"Funk 49" and "Walk Away" by the group "James Gang". Joe Walsh fronted this threesome in the late 60's early 70's.

Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls [175 million views] UK band!
All the guys from the Eagles had AWESOME solo careers...so many branches on this rabbit hole!!! I'm here for it!!!
My grandmother first heard this in 1982, she was in her mid-60s. She loved it, said it reminded her of things she & others had done when they were young.
Saw Joe in concert once and of course he was awesome. Need to listen to Funk 49, Walk Away and Rocky Mountain Way. You'll love them all.
He was a major part of Eagles. A real visual performer!
Son you got an old fan base! Love seeing the smile, I'm doing it too😊😊❤❤❤
One of my favorite things to do on YT is to watch youngsters be blown away by experiencing the first listen to music us geezers grew up with. 🤗
Thissss...is the Banger I that salute you for sir. "I can't complain...but sometimes I still do...." ! Hoist the Colours 💥☠️💥
He's the lead guitar on Hotel California, with bandana on head!!! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
It's a dig at the "rock star" lifestyle. Great, great song. Rocky Mountain Way next!
"I can't complain, but sometimes I still do" Words to live by. 😂
Great album indeed.
Life’s good, life’s a journey, and so is the song.
James Gang.
