We've had many questions about the new Sig P365XL and how it compares to not only the P365 but also the Glock 43X and Glock 48. We compare the P365XL to the Glock 43X and Glock 48 plus break down the differences between it and the older Sig P365.

Are the strikers interchangeable between the 365 and the XL
Yes.
@@Militaryarmschannel
I really want to trust the 365XL. However, you are the only 2A guy who hasn't reported return to battery issues.
How much beefier is the XL firing pin from the latest regular p365?
I think it would be worth switching out and sticking with the regular version with extended mags for better grip.
Probably wouldn't solve the problem. Sounds like it's the slide weight and recoil spring setup that prevents dragging.
I actually had this problem with my 365 out of about 100 rnds it didn't fully go into battery twice.
@@jamesone6098 you mean the 365 XL or the original?
Didn't learn how they stack up against each other. All I learned is that he loves the 365 xl. A lot.
Love his videos. But I just held all three at the gun shop. Bought the Glock 48. It's my first Glock. Not a Glock guy, but because all of the problems he highlighted in the video with the 365. I don't have the cash to burn to test if the xl fixed the problems. Watched the video on the way to the gun store. All in all. The 48 felt better in hand.
Yeah a bunch of rounds through the sig weapons. Literally thanks for promoting one weapon when 4 are mentioned.
James Light 👍🏽. I just picked up a 43X Black. Shoots very well!
@@jameslight4936
I'm just not a Glock person, never liked the way they feel and the clunky look so the P365XL fits great in my hand & comes up right to my eye and hasn't had a single problem yet.
@@NoKidding66 the 365 is a good gun. Just not what I want. For my Glock. I can make it how I want without making it cost twice as much. With the 365, it's nice but it's hard for me to find mags. I own both . Neither suck. Glock just gives more.
I’m not sure holding the 365XL and 48 next to each other in a video really does the justice for the size difference between the two guns. I was surprised at how much smaller the 356XL actually is in a practical sense. If any of you are thinking about buying one of these guns, you really owe it to yourself to hold them side by side and feel for yourself.
Now, personally, I went with the 48. Which is kind of weird because I have much smaller hands than Tim and he said he preferred the XL. Which goes to show, it’s personal preference. But I wanted an easily concealable pistol with as much grip and barrel as possible. I wanted to be able to get a full grip. The slightly bigger 48 gave me that. The XL still felt good. But the 48 just felt better.
I’ve found the 48 to be very concealable in the real world, no matter what I’m wearing. I’m kind of surprised how similarly easy it is to conceal compared to other guns that are smaller (like my wife’s Sig 238). And I’m very impressed with the felt recoil. That little extra barrel (and presumably the extra grip) makes such a huge difference compared to other small single stack 9mms (like the 43, 938, shield, and XDs). But, I would have to assume the XL is just that much more concealable. It fit perfectly in my pocket, where the 48 is just a hair big for that. I haven’t shot the XL, but everyone I talk to who has says the exact same thing as Tim. They all say the felt recoil is dramatically less than the 365, or the other smaller guns I listed. And I agree with Tim, I prefer the 48’s trigger to the XL. It’s nothing special. But it’s smooth, and it’s perfect for a carry gun. The XL is still a bit spongy.
Just wanted to share that opinion for anyone who cares to read. Last side note, I wasn’t that impressed with the 43x (and I thought I would be). I think I’ll be buying a 365 or good ol 43 soon to replace an older 938 as my smallest carry gun. But the 48 is my new go-to, and I have a feeling it’s going to be for a very long time. I love that thing.
I love my 48 MOS ..
Damn this is why you are the man for our industry!!
Your videos are thorough, informative and on point!
thank you again for your time that you spend on helping our industry grow..
Awesome versus video Tim. Also thanks for answering all the questions that everybody wanted to know about these guns Sir.
When you say, I got one that works "I Got Lucky" that sums up sig enough. The Glock 43x/48 is the only clear choice. It has a history of functioning and has 0 issues since it's release, you won't need to buy 4 glocks to find one that works.
Exactly
zero? Most error rates in manufacturer industry is .02%, I bet Glock is above that. I know for sure they are More like .2% So is sig..
Even though it it may have a larger grip compared to the Sig, Shield Arms is releasing a magazine that will fit flush that holds 15 rounds.. game changer.
Bob Drywall Not for everyone. My 43x has nothing but issues. A return to flock was needed. Not uncommon for new design guns.
Alex if they get it to work. From the reports I have seen. Still work in progress.
I think the reason you want to switch the Lower and upper is to have the xl slide on the shorter height lower so you can conceal better as the length of the grip prints most.
Mac's a big guy so he might not realize that some of us could really use that extra half inch of concealability with the grip
I'd love to have the longer slide on my 365. Less worries about reliability and better handling. I have thin hands and fingers so I can actually get a full grip on the 365 frame, so I use the smallest configuration for concealment.
Yes, having the XL optic mount with the shorter grip is attractive.
Yeah I saw the short grip long slide and was in love.
Yes yes yes. Probably better to just cut the frame down?
Thank you for the great video, it was very informative and helps me in my decision to get the 365 XL for my carry also
For me, this has been a GREAT video. I'm watching it twice.
Thank you, M.A.C.!
That 365XL seems like the smallest pistol I can think of that could fit into a duty role as well as a CCW role. That's super neat!
I think you kind of missed the point of the idea of swapping the uppers. It's not to get a shorter barrel on the XL body, it's to get the better XL upper on the smaller more concealable body of the normal P365. This gives you the full grip (with the 12rd mag), or, you can opt to the smaller more concealable grip of the 10rnd mag, while maintaining the better upper.
So the question is, how does it feel, how does it shoot with a 12rnd mag P365, and the XL upper?
I am deciding between these 4 guns to buy in the next week and was about to make a lengthy post on Reddit asking for advice. YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!
No primer drag at all in my new P365. Born on Feb.4th 2021. It’s fixed!!!! 👀🤘🏼🥳🔫
Very interesting demo! When it comes to Sub compact Pistols, I'm still a S&W M&P Shield 9MM Fan!
I have a long and trusted history with SIG metal framed guns- love them. BUT I just cant get over the hump trusting tier polymer guns- I had one of the early P320s- garbage, not to mention the safety issues with the trigger- then my dad purchased not an early, but i guess "early mid" series of the 365- he had 2 broken firing pins and major primer drag (more than whats acceptable) after/during less than 400 rounds. I really like the feel of the 36XL but its like trying to get back in a relationship with a really pretty girl who says she loves you, but has cheated on you twice. Meanwhile my plain girl next door G19 G3 has never, ever let me down...even if I am not the nicest to her
Well said .
Very interesting, thanks for taking the time to post this.
I'm hoping to see your opinion of the iwi Masada soon because I'm thinking of getting one lol. Great video as always though, keep up the great work!
“Why in the world...” I’d suggest you may have gotten the “swapability “ question backwards. I’ll bet it’s more like “original” P365 owners wondering if they can buy an XL upper for it and cure all their troubles. Also, hoping that Sig might make such a kit available.
I did the same concept with my P320 Sub Compact. Good for Sig for hearing you talk about the grip being the concealability problem! And it shot well. But not really accepted very well (and seems to have been discontinued). So, I bought the X-Compact grip module and added that flat trigger (you failed to mention the 90° break - my favorite part) and, presto change-o! I have an almost-X-Compact! Viva modularity!
I waited, got my P365 (born on date 11-13-19). No striker drag at all, sights are great, trigger is sweet. 1000 rounds so far. Shoots great! new EDC.
Same 03/2020 No issues whatsoever
Seems like this is the norm with sig
It's pretty cool that you can add the striker-drag feature to the P365XL by simply swapping slides with the regular P365.
I plan on putting a black 48 slide on my 43. Already have a drop-in trigger and mag extensions for it.
Have the p365 and I have their latest version and no proper drag has same marking as the xl. So far zero malfunctions.
Re: Three Firing Pins: Was the third firing pin shown in the picture from the 365 or the 365XL? Thanks for the great videos and extensive 365 coverage!
“In my humble opinion” your opinions enlighten us all, thank you
It’s good to see the SIG P365XL performing well. Thanks for the great review!
Tim you missed the point, We want the long slide on the short grip frame because you can conceal the short frame better but have the longer sight radius, I have custom Glock 19 slides on Glock 26 frames made by DV8 Dynamics
The longer sight radius is great for bullseye precision shooting but of zero consequence in a defensive pistol. The longer slide achieves one critical goal, it slows the slide down.
That's pretty cool
Military Arms Channel you’re missing another point. Longer barrel means more consistent expansion of controlled expansion defense rounds. Controlled expansion rounds generally perform poorly when fired out of subcompact barrels. This is a little talked about issue when it comes to very short subcompact barrels.
Having both the 43x and 365xl. The Sig wins by far. Not even close
What brand or model is more trustworthy ? I gonna pick my first gun and i don't want get issues :(
Got the 365 the other day for the first time and I love this gun..Its one of the few small handguns that I can shoot very well
I have a new P365. Thankfully, Sig seems to have fixed the problems. I have no drag on the primer and no scratches on the mag after 1200 rounds. Great video btw.
Glock 43x and 48 all the way. Too many reliability issues with the sigs...
Glock has had its fare share of reliability issues as well. Glock 42 for an example. So Glock came out with the 42 first which was 380 and that had 3 revisions, you can tell by the number on the mag.
If glock didnt come out with the 42 first, how do you think the 43 would have been reliability wise in 9mm.
SIG could have easily come out with a SIG p365 in 380 and work out all of the kinks first befor their 9mm. But they chose not to because 9mm is what people want.
So now SIG gave what the people want in a small compact 9mm the size as a glock 42 and people are saying how much Glock is better?
I appreciate companies that bring new ideas to the table. It helps make things better in the world.
@@randomguy5284 Why invoke the 42 when the 43 is the 9mm to compare the p365 to. Sig also had issues with the p320 (drop bang) so they are 0-2 on striker fired rollouts in the last 4 years. Glock has 30+ years of real world experience, Sig is already settling lawsuits.
Jeffrey Henning so has glock. They have also had drop issues over the years and many upgrades
you don't know what are u talking about, ...Sig are 2 or 3 steps over the glock.
Agreed.
Have the G43X and love it but nothing beats the Sig P365XL!! Nothing!!
Nothing as far as handguns in this size class....or no handgun period??
Nice... I somehow missed this video. Thanks UA-cam. I needed this information. Rock on MAC.
Keep em coming and I'll keep watching 🤙🏻👌
One of the best features of the XL is that the corners on the magazine baseplate don't dig into your palm like on the P365.
I saw this and I had to comment. I test fired a P365 and everyone seemed to love them (even MAC's criticism about the "primer drag" seemed to be addressed after a few years), so I got one as my first 9mm pistol. However, two range sessions made it clear that the area where the baseplate meets the magazine was digging into my hand and I didn't want to keep shooting my new gun. Thank you for helping me feel less crazy, it seemed like no one else had this happen to them.
After mulling it over, I went to trade in the P365 for an XL, but the gun store only had the marked up XL so I looked at other guns and got something else. I might try the XL in the future (I liked a lot about the P365), but I'm happy with my G48 for now. (Though I won't fully abandon my Bersa Thunder 380, that gun is really good for being as cheap as it is.)
@@mediamusings6875 No problem. All great pistols. I carry a G42 more than anything else. If you can hide the grip on the G48, then it's a keeper because the grip feels amazing.
I purchased a July 2018 P365-it has been riddled with failure to return to battery, and it almost never locks back after the last round. Now having little to no confidence in it, I plan to trade it in at the gun store and replace it either with the P365XL or the P320 XCompact when they are received. Would love your take on the differences between these two new models and your preference between the XL and XCompact. Great review, btw!
January 2019 p365 2250 rounds through it with 0.00 malfunctions. Send your gun back to sig. They will fix it.
Fantastic video. I have a newer P365 that I am running hard. Currently 1400 rounds. Ben running great but I fully plan to get the 365XL
Thanks Tim for a very informative video.
Good video - thanks. (I was hoping there would be more comparison with the Glock 43x.)
Robert McDaniel it was the only reason I was watching. Fuck
As a lefty I have adapted to right handed firearms if i gotten my hands on a ambi firearms I probably won't change anything
@jdw501 I’m a lefty how is this a right handed fire arm?
JD, same here and actually like not having to break my grip using left handed manipulation. Just picked the p365xl up today and like my g19 I’m leaving it right handed.
Like you said, barrel length isn’t a big deal, but grip length is. The longer slide on the smaller frame is very desirable if it eliminates all of the problems of the smaller gun.
XL slide on the 365 seems like the best of both worlds. best concealability with the short grip & the corrected primer drag + more barrel length.
My grandma taught me at an early age to know the difference between "a couple" and "a few"
good info
The p365 frame with the XL slide is the best of both worlds. And is the perfect ccw configuration.
Thanks for swapping the slides/frames and showing us the function. It looked like you weren't really a fan of doing that 😂
I've got both 365s and a Glock 43x. Love all three so its hard for me to make a choice for everyday carry. Great review Mac! We are so lucky to have this problem. hehe
I think putting the xl slide on the standard P365 is a great idea. If Sig offers them separately, I'm going to pick one up. You can keep it in standard configuration for pocket carry, and switch to the longer slide when you appendix carry. The other plus, is that you can run the red dot optic with the longer slide, giving you a better longer range set up.
Yeah, if you have neither, buy an XL and then pick up a standard polymer frame p365 with a mag for cheap and swap the FCG and slide and good to go
You can buy a regular p365 grip module for around $20 then install your p365xl fire control group in it and slide on it. Think that gets you exactly what you want.
I just recently got the Glock 43x with the black slide. I briefly considered the p365xl but I wanted a weapon I knew would work without issues. Loving the 43x easy to conceal and fits my hands way better than the regular 43
I can’t say I blame you.
huy tran I want to get a different trigger for mine. I got the handgun on blue label with night sights already on it. I really love the ameriglo nights sights.
The P365 HAD an incredibly low problem percentage initially, and doesn’t need sight and trigger upgrades.
Violet Canzonetti I’m not into taking chances when it comes to my life. I also have the S15 15 rounds Mags for it. 2500 rounds through them now with no issues. The 365 may of had a low percentage of failure but thats not a risk Im willing to take
@@luckygunnerx30 I can see that theoretic problem but now in Feb 2024 I’ve had several shooters switch from 43x to 365xl due to the extra recoil of the 43x. Oh they can shoot very good but just got tired of the unnecessary snappiness. When one said I rather have more accurate follow up shots in a gun fight that made sense to me. And I was going from the 365 to 43x since I was getting one cheap. I rather have superior shoot ability on my side. Now I’m seeing more and more reviewer confirm the 365xl is the best shooting subcompact on the market. Food for thought.
Excellent video! Thank you for the info
Great video. For what it is worth, my standard P365 has been flawless. i did wait and get a newer built one.
The only thing I would have added would be a comparison of the size between the 365XL and the 43X.
Yes, that's what I actually wanted to see. The XL might still be more concealable than even the 43X and could blow it out of the water in basically every way, but I wanted to see a length comparison to get a better picture.
I was mad that he didn’t do it 😑
Thats why I came here. A little disappointed.
This is what the world wanted to see 😂
Yep wanted to see that as well. And with the shield arms 15 rd mag in the 43x. I say both are a pretty sweet EDC!
You can keep harping about the strikers but the fact is we are't seeing broken strikers now like we were when the 365 first came out. And many small pistols have similar striker drag.
myantispambox Strange. My shield never has.
That was a great informative video. Was in the fence between the 365/XL/48. Wanted to see if that big of deal is with the XL
Yes Thanks Tim for helping decide on my next carry gun, the p365xl
The whole P365 line as of oct 19 has the newest striker and none have striker drag anymore. Just FYI.
Peace of mind and reliability with my Glock 48 out of the box!
No need for luck
I currently carry a 48 with shield arms mags, I’ve been happy with it.
@@rabbivj I cant even preorder those mags lol. I'm waiting for an email alert
Because you just can’t go wrong with Glock
@@PNW_Sportbike_Life except the price... P365xl has standard night sights and a good trigger both which cost over 100 dollars on glock. I like a gun thats done right when I take it out of the box.
@@vesical7952 you like plastic sights and lower capacity too...
Interesting observations and review. I’ll soon be purchasing the XL.
Nice video. Very informative .
How does the Sig bore axis compare to the Glock?
Looks pretty close. You think they could have lowered the P320 axis as well.
5:10 (about the grip length) "the overall length is really no different..." WHAT???? Wow. Do you think we are blind??? While it's not a huge increase in length, it's NOT the "same size". I appreciate a candid view, up until things don't fit reality.
My 15 Rd mags get stuck. I had to file a little bit off the ledge that is getting stuck in the magazine catch notch. Now they work perfect
I had the same issue. I disassembled them and put them back together and they seem to work fine now.
rick c I had the same thing happen with my 15 rd mag the first time I loaded it and was able to jiggle the follower free and reload with no problems since.
Thanks for the review
Just got back from my LGS, and tried the XL out then I saw this video dropped. The XL really is an improvement from the regular 365. I haven’t fired if obviously, and initially didn’t understand the point of the XL, but now I’ll probably have to get one.
My friend that worked there also mentioned they’re releasing a mini RDS for the model that will retail at $189, has a 10 year battery life, and has integrated rear sights built into the RDS.
Should also mention the slide comes pre-milled to accept an RDS
I held both the p365 and p365xl in my local gun store last week and I have to say, I do like the xl a bit better.
One thing I’m curious about, how much does the p365 weigh, fully loaded, compared to the p365xl? It would be nice to compare those weights to the fully loaded Glocks as well (43x, 48, 19).
365xl every day of the week and twice on sunday.
Fascinating review. Thanks.
Awesome video thx so much for the size comparisons. I figured this gun lost all of it's small size factor but that isnt the case at all. I think I'm going to go with the 365xl for conceal carry.
Been waiting for this video. What about the new shield though?
Probably because theres not a huge difference between the glock and shield is my guess.
Just held a 365xl yesterday, I love it
Hope you don't have any issues
@Andrew Ryan [Valley HS] all of the UA-cam videos online show the same problem after already cleaning it. It's a Magazine spring versus main recoil spring not working in harmony issue most likely
had to pause the video at about 3min in.. & go ahead a click that thumbs up button. MAC bringing us that good content once again. lol
now back to the video.
I've had great luck with the P365XL. First time I shot it, I had some returning to battery issues after about 200 rounds, but I had not cleaned it from the factory. Cleaned it, ran well ever since. About 2,000 rounds or so through it, wear minimal for the count. I usually run hotter ammo too.
I have carried Glock for 30 years now. It works every time. Nuff said. Thanks for the review.!
Mountainsky Aerial Photography
I think the point of this video was to show concealability. The 365XL is a much smaller and more easily concealed gun that holds more rounds and comes standard with nights sights and a great trigger. The Glock is great but can’t compare to it out of the box. The P320 more closely aligns with the Glock 43X or 48, and the P320 is a fantastic gun. Nothing against Glock. Sig just makes a more versatile stock gun for the price.
Hi, will you do more gauntlet videos?
Need gauntlet videos!
Yep wtf Tim give the people what they want!!!!
@HachiZenki that'll probably break them
As far as I can tell the 365 has a hard enough time trying to function correctly just shooting let alone through any test that would impede its ability. The XL seems much improved but, (in the gauntlet) I'd bet it will have failure after failure caused by the mag judging from the, can't unload it without the follower sticking thing. just imagine what dirt, sand and mud will do.
@@jonjames4281 considering many people are getting failures to feed and extract, it would most certainly fail
Throwing the Shield Magazine into the mix as well as changing the mag release button certainly change the story.
@7:22 - Tim is just so hopeful. God bless his heart.
No I would want the XL slide on the standard 365 grip module
Exactly.
That is exactly what I was thinking. Short grip with a long slide!
Same here.
@@michaelblacktree Me too. It's like we used to cut a Glock 19 frame down to G 26 length for better concealability and longer site radius.
Seriously. It's embarrassing that thought didn't even occur to him. It's a shame how many pundits/reviewers in the 2a community are lacking in the abstract thinking category
Why skip the size comparison between the P365XL and the 43X?
You answered my questions. And so I might switch the trigger, though I'm not necesarilly unhappy w/the factory trigger on my classic 365.
MAC, do you plan on reviewing the newest Sig X5 Legion with the powdered tungsten integrated into the frame?
The striker changes seem like band aid fixes. Not really addressing the issue the timing on the gun is wrong. Seems like a glaring failure from an engineering and testing stand point.
Maybe Sig ought to actually fix the issue via a recall and new parts.
timing is fine, I get striker drag on all my micro guns. even glock
When did you stop carrying the cz p01? I got one at the the store waiting for pickup and you carrying it was a big reason I settled on it
You're gonna love it. You can get 16 round mec gar magazines and add a sp01 base plate to it.
The P-01 is a great gun. My P-01 has been very reliable. My new Sig P365 XL, has not been, thus far. Keep your P-01. I’m almost at the point where CZ and Glock are all that I implicitly trust. HK is good, too, but I suck, and they hate me.
One complaint I have is I wish it had a 0.140" front rather than 0.160". I like a bit narrower front sight. Mine also seems to like almost a 12 o'clock hold, so I have to adjust.
One the best channels...Keep it up!!!
Would love to hear your G48 review
That exact magazine issue with the 365XL happened to me too twice where the follower binds up.
Thanks for the vid!
In firearms as in most things, early adopters pay the price.
P365XL upper + P365 lower + 10rd flush mag in the gun + 12rd spare mag = ultimate conceal carry setup?
I was thinking the same thing. Put a 365XL upper on a regular 365 for a more conceal ability. Also get rid of firing pin drag.
No.
The XL lower is only marginally larger and the XL trigger is significantly better. Take the XL keep it stock and get the 15rd 365 mags for your spares.
@@tombearclaw Is there some reason they can't just put the XL trigger in the 365 frame, include the XL slide/barrel and sell it as a "covert" model? You say the XL lower is only marginally larger, but it seems many people would prefer shorter grip since they really lose nothing as a result. They could still use the XL mags if they want, perhaps with a grip extension.
@@tombearclaw I'm not a big guy. That "marginal" increase in size is enough to make it stick out of my shirt. Same with the 12rd mag. I can get a full grip on the small frame so I run the flush fit mags. I would like the XL slide, though.
@@justinkase1360 You can, I have sig flat trigger in my 365's.
I also had the same spring issue while unloading the 10 rd mag on the original 365. Follower stuck, and the rounds fell out while I was unloading. Happened once, I cleaned it, and haven’t had an issue since.
The XL slide on the 365 frame makes a lot of sense.
Concealability of 365 and reliability of XL, best of both worlds.
A few videos besides Harry's Holsters showing it failing to go into battery. Recall coming soon
Nah, they won't recall, just institute a running change.
Harry is full of crap.
I really want the XL to work so I can buy one
Great video!! Have you had any issues with it not going into battery when you are firing it? Thanks!!
I LIKE the XL Slide on the 365 Frame. That is the version I would want.
Lol. He said "harden the tip" like 3 times
But I had to. 😂Thanks for the support!
I really appreciate your gun reviews b/c you call it like it is. One thing I’ve learned over my 74 yrs is NEVER to buy a new model until it’s been on the market for at least a year, AND don’t buy anything w/o watching your channel.
Good advice, whether firearms, automobiles, etc. Give some time for the bugs to be worked out.
He calls it like it is, unless its an israeli gun ;)
I played with one yesterday and the slide basically locks to the rear when the trigger is held back. (if you want to feel the trigger reset it took significant force to rack the slide).
Tim, your reviews are awesome! Most have swapped the uppers and confirmed they as interchangeable. One thing I've been trying to figure out is of the P365 FCU can be placed into the XL Grip module; could you give that a try and see if it's gonna be compatible as a grip module replacement without needing to buy another gun?
Dont get too excited, you'll find a way to break it lol
Sigs shady business practices really bug the hell out of me. The sig mpx... 2 gens and they won't even mark the guns informing customers. They wouldn't even acknowledge the drop safety on the p320... just recommend you to send it in.
They’ve been doing that for years. I agree, it’s bad business.
My first AR was a Sig. It's ok. But since I build my own now I see little things I improve on.
KracknCorn they all do this....even glock..
Finally going to pick the xl verison, been eyeing the 365 but have been waiting on improvements. To change from my current 4.0 xds edc
Seems like with smaller hands and frames, the difference in height P365 variants does make a difference. I'm still on the fence but will have to wait until local dealers get the XL to compare. Thanks for a great comparison video.
