Please post more video reviews like this. His voice is so calming and the products you deliver are amazing. I wish I can get one to try, but our dealers are not getting them any time soon, so I'll probably go with 2023 Toyota Highlander, since I can get it sooner.

Toyota's design has been so boring in recent years, also the driving dynamic is worse than Mazda's. I tested the inline 6 standard output version twice and felt it was much better than Highlander.

Will you allocate PHEV's to Manitoba? And all the provinces? Or will you be like Toyota and only sell them in BC and Quebec?

You guys on the west coast have inexpensive electricity, so this may not apply to you. But the PHEV only travels 25 miles on EV before it switches to ICE and a non-PHEV goes that same 25 miles for 1 gallon of gas. In the states, it costs as much to charge that massive battery as it costs for 1 gallon of gas. The PHEV is a $4,000 option in the states and it save you no money.

Clark, I live in Indiana and we have cheap electricity, unlike some other US sates. I purchased a CX-90 that is in transit to the dealer. My calculations show that I should save quite a bit with the EV mode. Like you stated, the CX-90 will go about 25 miles on a full charge. The non PHEV CX-90 gets a combined 25 mpg and in my area fuel is around $4.00 per gallon. If I charge my vehicle from 11pm to 5am, electricity is $0.05313 per kWh. A full charge of the 17.8kW battery would cost 95 cents, so I could save $3.05 in those 25 miles. $4000 for the option divided by $3.05 saved for that 25 mile trip means after 1311 EV trips I should break even. My wife will primarily drive the CX-90 Monday through Friday 7.5 miles to work and back. Those 1311 trips should take about 9 months. I'm sure the use of the air conditioning and heat will reduce the range, but you get the idea. This is my first PHEV, so hopefully we should save a lot of fuel during the work week.

@@bryanmetzmeier5085 My electric rate is 0.13 per Kwh BUT if you divide the total electric bill cost by the Kwh used it comes out to more than 0.19 per Kwh. Yes surprise, the tax and fees (just like in the cost of a gallon of gasoline) can be quite high..
You only save 1 gallon of gasoline IF you drive 25 miles in EV mode. Your wife's 15 mile drive will save 0.6 gallons per trip and take a 10 Kwh recharge of the battery. That is $2.40 for gas or $ 0.53 for electric but you are not considering the tax and fees on your electric bill.
But for the sake of argument, you will save $1.87 per drive or $9.35 per week and $486 per year. So that $4,000 option will take 8.2 years just to break even and even longer if you add tax and loan interest on that $4,000 option.
BTW that CX-90 has an 18.5 gallon tank so you can either plug/unplug it every day or visit a gas station 31 days. In any case gasoline should be used within a few months of purchase so you will have to use the ICE.
I have had 3 Mazdas, I have had no complaints and really wanted the CX-70 PHEV. But I also do research and base my purchase on facts and the facts show the PHEV will not really save any money. So why live with all that complexity (engine shuts down when you brake or coast and then restarts many times during a normal drive) and somewhere between 100-170K miles that battery will need replaced at a cost more than the vehicle is worth. Also try selling a PHEV with close to 100K miles.
Mazda does not warranty the battery against "NORMAL" degradation during those first 100k miles. Ask your salesperson to document in writing what "normal" battery degradation is and see where that gets you.

@@clarkkent9080 I commend you on your thorough research and thank you for sharing it with me. We are replacing a 2011 CX-9. You bring up some good points about the battery life and cost associated with them. I did forget the tax on the electric use which is 7% in Indiana. The only fee my electric company has is a flat service fee which I don’t think it’s relevant to add to my EV cost. The fee is not based on use and I’m going to pay that with or without the vehicle. I’m sure we will drive the CX-90 more than 75 miles per week, so hopefully the break even is less than 8 years. Most of our driving is on fairly short trips, helping the break even. I’m going to keep accurate cost records to compare my calculations with real world. I feel it’s worth the added expense to learn for myself if the PHEV thing is good or not. Plus I feel the CX-90 is a very nice vehicle and a good value.

@@bryanmetzmeier5085 I was really hoping to move up from my CX-5 and the CX-70 seemed like a nice vehicle based on the currently on sale CX-60 in other markets. The PHEV also sounded like a great idea based on my review of the RAV 4 Prime.
Having said all that, I have decided to buy a new CX-5. The 2023 is essentially the same as my 2017 and it is really all I need and has been a great vehicle. I guess my logical side has decided that my need trumps my want.
Good luck with your CX-90, it is a sharp vehicle and Mazda is great company. I would put my Mazda up against any Toyota for reliability and quality.

I live in Montreal Quebec, with a total of $7500 CAD government rebate, this CX-90 PHEV is a huge game changer. It will take about 40km a day from home to work, and this 3-row SUV has an EV range of 42km which is perfect. I can also charge at work, so there is no problem with the EV range.
