    so, in 5-7 degree Celsius, with 3 adults and 2 dogs in a city with a lot of small hills, and moderate stop and go traffic it gives about 36kms on full electric, in the same city , with same temp and no traffic (early morning) it gave 40 kms for a full charge. I am sure it will give a longer range in places with better temp. Hope this helps
    Update, so 1100 kms done , yet to put gas in :) driving about 25 to 40 kms a day . Remaining range is still 200 kms !

    Thank you for a truly fair and honest review.
    Just the other day I drove my CX90 PHEV to work for the first time in all electric mode. I drove around 5 mpg over the speed limit (65 and 75 mph respectively) and I still got around 27 miles of range.
    Unlike Tesla, Mazda is more realistic with their range. Just like you said, they I under promise and then they over deliver.

    • @AndresSalazarAutos
      @AndresSalazarAutos 9 місяців тому +2

      way better than over promising and under delivering, just like BMWs they are usually faster than they say the are.

      How quick is it in EV mode? I'm coming from a Mach e GT because I need a 3rd row, and plan to drive in EV mode as much as possible but nervous that it's going to be painfully slow in EV mode.

    • @sheldonduffy9442
      @sheldonduffy9442 3 місяці тому +1

      @@phillipmaloney5364it is not quick… at all… but for road and highway cruising it is fine. The only issue I have with driving all electeic it takes 2-3 seconds for the engine to kick back in when you try to floor it… that is why a lot of people just keep it in normal mode and let the drivetrain figure it out. As long as you drive reasonably it will default to electric until the battery runs out.

    I’d be really interested to see a true city/suburb stop and go. Doesn’t necessarily have to be bumper to bumper, but traffic that flows between lights. Cruising kills electric range, so in stop and go and bumper to bumper you may see 40+

    • @davidzavala337
      @davidzavala337 7 місяців тому

      I would like to know the same, but nobody does city testing. Our driving is 95% city and lots of hard bumper to bumper traffic. Every single ICE vehicle I've owned I always get like 6 mpg les average that the oficial city EPA. As a reference, my current cx5 is tsted at 26 city and I average 18-19 mpg.
      One local dealer is offering me a cx90 PHEV for $440 a month all taxes included with $4100 down. I'm tempted to go for it, but not a lot of info regarding city mpg

    Great Review and big fan of PHEV here (currently driving a Kia Sorento PHEV Prestige here in the US). My EPA pure EV range is 32 miles but I exceed that quite often if I drive in moderate speed.

    • @sarabeth8050
      @sarabeth8050 9 місяців тому

      Agreed. If you have a place to charge at home and can only own one car, PHEVs make the best vehicles for most people. On road trips, you get hybrid level mileage and no range anxiety. In fact, DC fast chargers cost so much that mile for mile, it is generally cheaper to use gas on a hybrid vehicle than to DC charge any BEV, even a Tesla. BTW, I own a PHEV and I only run the gas engine every so often on short road trips. 85% of miles are EV. They're fantastic vehicles but got a bad rap because they were bought in huge numbers in Europe as corporate vehicles because of incentives. The companies paid the fuel so employees rarely bothered charging them, which just made them heavy HEVs.

    Did you mention the ambient temperature? That's something to record as well. Since you set the HVAC to 72 degrees, I'm thinking it's warmer than that out, but that's an assumption on my part. Thanks for doing this video. Oh, wait, I am commenting while watching, so you just said it's 94 degrees out. That makes the range you got even more important! Nice!

    Im debating between this vehicle or the Santa Fe PHEV. As a person who just got fed up with my fuel mileage do to the fact that i do 90% city driving and like 20%of hard core bumper to bumper traffic I could benefit from a hybrid or PHEV( Full electric is out of the question becauee i travel once a year in a 3k mile trip where theres no charging stations (mexico).
    I need some help as both vehicles i got offered the same deal.

    Thanks for a great video. It is good to see this car being offered. PHEVs are a great way to get into electric vehicles. I bought a Honda Clarity PHEV about 4 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made in a car. Like the Mazda, I can drive pure EV mode in city or highway and it will kick on the gas engine if/when the tank of electrons runs dry. And I can drive across country on regular gas - so never any range anxiety. I am fortunate that I can charge it in my garage and live only a few miles from where I work, so I only see a gas station once a year or so. But if I didn't, I'd just put it into gas/hybrid mode when on the interstate and fill-up as needed. Great technology. I only wish the industry had gotten behind PHEVs from the beginning !

    You guys do such a good job of these PHEV range tests. I would love it if you could do a range test on the 2024 BMW X5 xdrive 50e. I am very interested in this vehicle, but confused by the range estimates. European and US both spec the battery at 29.5kWh gross and 25.7kWh net capacity, but WLTP estimated range, which is usually higher than EPA, gives it 94-110kms and the EPA estimate is only 40 miles. That is a HUGE difference. Only someone like your controlled test will tell us the real world range. Thank you

    Thanks for your very informative video! A couple of comments. I wonder how well the base PHEV will do because it has smaller/narrower tires. Toyota maximizes efficiency by installing really small and skinny tires on their HEVs and it is well known that all BEVs lose significant range if bigger wheels/tires are optioned. Thus, the base model is likely to add 10-15% of EV range and improve HEV mileage on already impressive numbers. On that note, do you plan to do a real world test on HEV mileage after the battery is depleted?
