Thank you very much for the perfect video. I appreciate the production value. Pro tip for anyone that reads this, when you install the replacement actuator and the gear is not clocked around to accept it. You can take apart the old actuator, remove the gear and use it like a tool to to move the dampers into the correct place so the splines match up and the new actuator just slides right on.
Thanks. I was really wishing I had something like this to go off of before I attempted it myself, but all I could find were people complaining about how hard it was to get to. I'm really happy with the camera angles I was able to get with my GoPro. You do have to be careful when moving the damper around so that it doesn't fall out of place. I accidentally knocked off the white plastic piece when I was moving around getting the camera and light situated and it was hard to get everything lined back up.
AYYY YOOOO!!!! I am having the same issue with my armada. Before I landed on your video I had replaced the blower motor to no success. After trouble shooting and figuring what the name of the part that was going out I came accross your video. I am ordering my part tonight cna't wait to follow this video again. My kids call my truck the "hot box" cause the ac isn't blowing out of the front faacing vents. Only if they knew what "hot box" truly meant.
Glad to be able to help! It was a bit frustrating when I was trying to figure out how to do it; because all of the videos I found were extremely long of people complaining about how hard it was to replace. I personally didn't find it very difficult to replace, although it is quite awkward laying partially on your back in the floorboard while doing hand gymnastics above your head!
I just traded for this 05 Titan and now that it's getting cold i noticed it only blows air out of the dash vents. I looked up actuators and it popped up your video. Thanks for the detailed replacement info. I've been dreading it, but it looks much easier than the one i replaced on our Ford Flex. Just ordered the actuator. It'll be nice to have a defroster in a couple weeks😂
You’re welcome! Yes, the mode actuator is somewhat simple to replace, as long as you don’t have the Rockford Fosgate stereo system (that significantly restricts access). It does require laying on your back and some hand gymnastics, but still relatively straightforward. I haven’t had to replace the temperature actuator on mine, but I’ve heard it is extremely hard to access.
I haven’t had a chance to look at one with that system, so I’m not sure how much harder it makes it. Theoretically everything is exactly the same, just with significantly less room to work.
Man I'm glad I found your channel this morning. My 2006 did this until the AT went out and I got a used 2012 that does the same thing. I figured out how to fix my ignition tune key issue and this today.
Depends on if you have dual climate control or not. I believe it’s 3 without dual climate control, 4 with. Thankfully the only one that has gone out for me is the mode actuator, which thankfully is the easiest to replace.
I used this to guide me through the replacement of this actuator on my 2005 Titan. Mine is a base model that doesn't have the high-end stereo. I bought the new actuator off eBay for about $16. I was not as lucky as you in this video and knocked loose the cam plate that controls the two levers. But it only took a few minutes to get it back into its proper place after removing the cover over it. What I especially liked about your video is that you explained which functions this particular actuator controls. I looked at some exploded diagrams of the Titan's HVAC system and it has like 5 actuators on it. My Titan would only blow air out into the footwells, not out the dash vents like you need in the summertime.
Glad to be able to help! Thankfully that’s the only actuator that’s gone out on my Titan, but if any of the other go out, I’ll definitely be filming the replacement for them as well.
Dude!! I can't believe I did it myself. Thanks for showing everything needed. The only things I did differently than you was removing the drivers seat (I'm on the larger side and it was easier for me to lay on my back and look up at it) and my replacement actuator included an extra key I was able to use for clocking the actuator plate. Thanks again, bruh.
Ahhh the things you find on UA-cam. I just ordered the replacement actuator. I was actually doing research for speaker replacement when I came upon your video. It will be nice to have the blend door working properly again. Nice video!
Amazing Video and Instruction. Thank you for that. I was able to gather proper tools and replace and test within 30 mins on my 2007 Titan and only removed the kick panel. I was able to work around the module/amp that is mounted on the 2 brackets. No more tapping ! Thanks again.
This helped me do the job, took about 1 hour and a lot of bad words. For the 7 mm screw right by the bracket you'll need a wrench as opposed to a ratchet. A ratchet won't fit between that mount and the screw. Also, big thing to add. Your new actuator will come with the teeth "opening" pointing up, but the actuator you take off your vehicle may have the teeth in a different orientation (pointing left or right), you'll need to take your new actuator apart so that the "opening" is in the exact same position as the one you're replacing or it won't fit. It's very easy to take apart and just turn the teeth to where it should be to match your old actuator.
Thanks for adding that about the teeth orientation. I guess mine was stuck in a different position than yours, because my new actuator fit in place with only turning it slightly to the side. But, it's definitely worth paying attention to before trying to install it.
This. I been freaking going in circles trying to get it to go in. This is something that's really worth noting especially for the casual crowd that decide to do this
Excellent video. Great instructions. Great camera work. Thanks for making this. My truck has exactly the same issue with the “clicking” and no Defrost. A+++
Having now completed this job successfully, I first want to say thanks. Excellent video! You saved my rear. And second, how in the name of God did you get a camera and light in that awkward tiny space???!!!
Glad I was able to help! I used a GoPro with a magnetic GorillaPod and a small LED panel (Aperture Amaran H198C) to get those tight shots. It took a bit of time to set it up, but once I got it in place, I was able to use my phone to monitor the video and to start and stop the recording. Before I did this job, I was looking at other UA-cam videos and all I could find is people frustrated at how "hard" it was, but didn't even give clear instructions or even what tools to use. I knew I needed to do a tutorial, but I had no idea it would be such a popular video or that it would shoot to the top of Google searches!
You're welcome! The main reason I made this video is because, before I replaced my actuator, I watched several videos and none were straightforward on how to do it. I went at it myself and, when I saw how easy it was (easy is a relative term, it does require laying on your back and having your hands in an awkward position), just had to make a video. As for taking the whole dash apart, was it for the driver's side actuator or was it for the one on the passenger side? I haven't had to replace mine (yet), so I don't know how hard it is to get to.
@@FixandMaintain , I just replaced the driver's side actuator and it was simple. Took about 45 mins to do it. I believe the one where the guy took his whole dash apart was for the driver's side as well. Great work!
Thanks for the update. I updated the estimated project time in the video description from 15-30 minutes to 30-45 minutes. It took me at least an hour when I did mine, since I had to set up cameras and lights, so I wasn’t sure how long it would actually take just doing it.
Thanks! Yes, since I’m just a DIY mechanic and do other videography projects as well on the side, I have the tools and skills to make better videos than mechanics who are trying to get the job done quickly. It’s surprising just how much time it adds to a job to set up tripods and lighting for shots!
Thank you, I was able to get this done. I replaced both actuators and still have the clicking noise. That white wheel that is driven by the actuator jerks when the direction control is turned to panel or max AC. Any ideas?
There may be an issue that’s causing the door to catch inside the housing. Does the white wheel move back and forth freely by hand with the actuator off?
@kevinskubleny687 sorry for not accurately conveying the acrobatics required for access, but I assure you, you’re not alone. 😜 If it weren’t for my GoPro and a magnetic mount, I wouldn’t have been able to get the shots like I did.
I bought a used 2005 Titan and noticed this "clicking" noise on day one. After watching many UA-cam videos and having mechanical skills I decided to replace the actuator on the drivers side. The part I ordered was not the same as the one I took out. The replacement part had the "gear' type drive and my actuator had a "double D" type drive. I did hours of research on this and through a friend got connected to the local Nissan dealers parts department where I found out that some early 2005 production units have the "double D" type drive. The "double D" type drive can be found from various sources, , ,
Very interesting! By "Double D" you're referring to the drive end of the actuator that connects to the truck? I'll try to do some more research on that so that I can include links to both actuators in the description along with a note to check which one you have before ordering!
As far as I know, yes. Since it seems to be a very common issue, I decided to go with an aftermarket part not only to save a little money, but to hopefully get an actuator that will last longer than the original.
My 2013 titan is blowing poorly out the front vents and sharing the air with the defrost setting or floor setting and changes randomly. Would this actuator be the cause of that?
This actuator should control those functions, but if it’s changing randomly, it may be a wiring or control dial issue rather than a bad actuator. I can’t say for sure, since I’ve never ran into that scenario, but I wouldn’t count on a new actuator fixing your issue.
@@FixandMaintain okay thank you. I guess it’s more of a sometimes when I select the front blow button from another setting then it’ll mostly do front and foot and sometimes it goes front and defrost. Like it’s getting stuck it a different selection. I don’t notice any noise as you mention though.
Technically yes; but might take a bit to get it right, so do at your own risk. You can take off the bad actuator, manually twist the door to the correct position, open up the actuator, take out the broken gear, turn the output shaft on the actuator to match up with the input shaft for the door, reinstall the broken gear, reinstall the actuator and DON’T plug it in. Then you’ll be a pro by the time the new actuator arrives 😎
Hi Random, Does your Titan have the Rockford Fosgate stereo? For mine, I'm just not getting the clear line of sight that you have in your video behind the bracket. And that is because there is a module directly behind the bracket. Unless I'm missing something. Thanks for posting the video.
Just an update, if you have sat radio and rockford system its more difficult, you have to remove the bcm, then the 10mm screws mounting the amp and sat receiver to the bracket the bcm sits on. Then you will need to remove the accelerator to (3 12 mm nuts) get enough room to wiggle it out so add 10mm and 12mm sockets to the list. You should be able to see the 2 amp plugs you need to get out above the accelerator, and 1 for the sat radio but note there is also a purple antenna lead on the upper left side of the sat radio module too that you have to unplug.
2008 armada did anyone have to melt to get the actuater on? Either I have the wrong one or I'm doing something wrong. Its like nothing is lining up dispite the grooves appear to be in the spot when inserting. I have the same one in this video
Does it sound like the blower motor is actually ramping up to full speed? Have you checked the blower motor itself to make sure it doesn’t need to be cleaned or replaced?
You could take the actuator off, separate the two halves, reposition the output shaft, then put it all back together and reinstall after twisting the door position manually. Not the easiest thing to do, but totally possible.
My driver side blows warm air but when I turn the knob a few times it goes back to cold. The passenger side temp knob works fine Is it the actuator? Or do I need to replace the whole control module? Just wanted to know before start buying things I don't need. Basically the driver side temp knob seems to be going out.
I have the exact same setup as you. I attempted this fix, but the white plastic piece the actuator fits into fell out of position as I tried to fit the actuator in it. Any tips on how to get that back into proper position? Great video- best one on UA-cam for this fix.
@@FixandMaintain Hi - I haven’t tackled it just yet - but the other video he referenced certainty put my mind at ease. I’m confident I’ll be able to get it done. I’m waiting on the OEM Nissan actuator - I thought I ordered the OEM part but the one that came was the same as in your video, and I want to avoid melting/modifying anything. Thanks!
Im noticing that when i turn my Armada off my cluster dials are ticking or jittering as well as the blend doors stuttering open an closed..can this draw power an drain my battery or should i be looking for my power draw from somewhere else???
I’m not sure what would cause the gauge cluster dials to tick when it’s off. I know when my actuator went out, it would click for a short time after turning the truck off, but it would always stop after a minute or so.
Just don't set the temperature control dial at coolest / (slightly above)or (slightly below)hottest , will take care of the problem , my 2005 Titan XE crew cab was having same issue
I have a 2008 Titan w/automatic a/c that doesn’t blow and clicks for 25 sec. when pushing the buttons that show horizontal air flow to the body. I checked the only fuse that I could see that would be for the a/c - 10 amp HVAC - and it look like it was ok. Are there 2 separate problems or does one effect the other?
When you say that A/C doesn't blow, do you mean the blower motor isn't running or the air is coming out, but not cold? As for the clicking, there are a few actuators that operate the various blend doors on the Titan. The easiest way to tell if it's the Mode Door actuator is to put your finger on it while it's making the clicking noise. If you can feel it clicking, then there's your culprit. Unfortunately if it's not the mode blend door, the others are located behind the dash and require much more work to get to.
Definitely two separate problems. If the entire HVAC system weren’t getting power, then the actuator wouldn’t be getting power to cause the clicking noise. So you may have to replace the blower motor in addition to one of the blend door actuators. It’s impossible for me to fully diagnose it without taking a look at it, but hopefully I’ve been able to help a little.
Is there any hack to just forcing the air go out dash/face vents only? Mine is only blowing out floor and defrost vents. I don't think i have ability to remove everything you did to replace it. But if there's a way to rig it to only go out dash vents I'd appreciate any feedback or tips. Thank you.
There is, but it would require a bit more work than just replacing the broken actuator... You can take off the bad actuator, manually twist the door to the correct position, take apart the actuator, remove the broken gear, turn the output shaft on the actuator to match up with the input shaft for the door, reinstall the broken gear and put the actuator back together, reinstall the actuator and DON’T plug it in. But again, much easier to take out the bad actuator and install a new one all at once.
@@FixandMaintain what is the name of the part the actuator screws into? I'm pretty sure mine is broken or at least off track and thinking I should get a new one while I'm up in there
I'm guessing you're referring to "Nissan 27175-7S020 Bracket-Front Heater Unit"? That's the black plastic piece that the actuator attaches to that also keeps the white plastic "Nissan 27163-7S010 Lever-Heater Unit" from falling out of place.
Ok, it sounds like you will need to replace one of the temperature blend door actuators. The actuator I replaced in this video just operates the mode door.
My fix went great but a couple of weeks later it started making noise like it was attempting to over rotate. Is there a way to reset it back within parameters ? Thanks and by far the best fix online
My understanding is that the actuator has positioning indicators built in (hence the multiple pins as can be seen in the disassembly at 0:18). So unless those are malfunctioning, the truck should be able to tell the actuator status.
Would this cause low air flow out of the ducts if the actuator is say in between settings? My cabin filter is good and my fan is working fine, just seems to not have a lot of force behind the air coming out of the vents on high. 2005 Titan. Thanks.
I’m not sure. It may make more of a difference if the fresh air/recirculate actuator were stuck in between. But I’d think that if the blend door actuator were broken, it would just cause air to be directed at more than one set of vents. I haven’t had an issue with either of the other two actuators on my Titan, so I can’t say for sure.
I need to replace my cold/hot actuator. Dredding it because it's in the center of the dash and the entire dash needs to be removed to get to it. Do the actuators come preset for the dials to be pointed in a specific direction or do you just install and hope for the best?
They don’t come pre-set to my knowledge. They actually do have what appears to be a limiter switch built into one of the gears inside the actuator, so that it “knows” what is fully open and fully closed. Before you take the whole dash off, you should try to see if you can get to it either by removing the glove box and/or radio. Sometimes people exaggerate how much actually has to be removed and, if you have the right tools, can be done much faster by doing some hand gymnastics and taking a less invasive approach.
I had the same problem. There were some videos where people didn’t remove the dash and said they worked by feel…..impossible! If you haven’t done it yet, don’t sweat it. It just takes time and patience. Keep up with your screws. It took me about 8 hours total. I now have to replace the mode actuator. Good luck!
@@steveboles3958 how do you adjust the groves so when you put on the new actuator it lines up with everything. I can't even get it to go in because nothing is lined up
I’m working on a 06 QX56 with the amplifier option so the only way I’ve been able to get it out is to remove the amplifier in order to get to the top screw.
@@FixandMaintain so far it’s a huge pain, there’s two connectors at the bottom one comes off pretty easy, the other I have to pull the unit off the bracket to get the other connector off, you have to remove one side of the bracket from the amp so it’ll pass the gas pedal, and then you can get to the top screw in the actuator. I tried to get the connectors out of the body module but I can only get one of the connectors out, the other two look like they have a security clip holding them in so it’s kinda hanging out under there..
Well my blend door actuator to control the temp. Is on the upper passenger side on top of the hvac box near the firewall. Scraped up the arms to get to it. But I got it. Can only imagine what the shop would of charged
Yes. The specific blend door that I replaced in this video is for the mode selector (as opposed to a temperature blend door), but it is nonetheless a blend door actuator.
I just replaced the actuator in our Nissan.unfortunately though the white plate got disrupted and now the arms don't go in the tracks on that plate. The arms/pins are too far away from the plate. Hopefully who ever is reading this understand what I mean. I'm not sure what I did wrong or how to fix it. Any suggestions?
Just remove the black plastic piece in front of the white plate, adjust things to get it back into position, then reinstall the black piece. It may be a bit tricky to hold it in place while you put everything back together, especially since there’s not much room to work, but it’s totally fixable.
Would a bad actuator cause the a/c to not blow air out hard??? Because my ac doesnt work. It turns on and i can feel the cold air barely coming out but will not blow hard
No, sorry. This is for the defrost/head/foot directional control motor. What it sounds like you need to replace is the air mix door motor. I haven't had to replace that in my Titan, so I can't help you out (at least I haven't had to replace it yet...).

I appreciate this video but what wasn't clear was how to set the knobs before installation?
Do you think this part would work on a '12 murano? I have the same click when i try to switch and its been blowing out just defrost and floor for months
Including setting up camera gear and getting the light panel and camera in those tight spaces, it probably took me around 2 hours total. If I were to do it again, it would probably take me 15-20 minutes.
Unfortunately I can’t help you with that since mine has the basic audio package. Would there possibly be a way you could just loosen the bracket to get enough room to work or is the amp just that big?
@@Jaycal559 not my case, I tried that but I still could'nt get my hands in there. almost cut a piece of bracket out but ending up taking dash off.. I recommend you do all three. also my dash plastic pieces were already cracked with holes in them. Iended up getting new vents and around guages, over riado... good luck.
My titan has warm air coming through vents when I have the "hot/cold" dial set all the way to cold, this is without the AC on.. when I turn AC on its cold.. could this be issue with actuator in middle of dash?
Is the outside temperature warm or cold when you turn it on? If the A/C compressor is not running when you turn the fan on, all it's doing is bringing in air from outside and blowing it inside the truck.
@@FixandMaintain thank you for the quick response and good point to clarify... the air coming in is always a little warmer than the outside temp... the intent is to bring in (vent) air directly from outside without use of AC. In my case the air is warmer than outside air to point where I simply roll down windows to get cooler air (but more noise) or turn on AC to cool down...
To add, I had a similar issue with a 2003 Ford Taurus and replacement of the blend door actuator fixed it... it was as if the door itself was not completely closing off the heat from coming in when set to cold setting...
So, there are, as you suggested in your original message, two additional actuators behind the dash (one for hot/cold and one for fresh air/recirculate). Unfortunately those are much harder to get to, and I haven’t had to replace either in my Titan as of yet. I believe you may be able to access them from behind the glove box. Does it switch to hot air like it should? Are there any weird noises when you switch from full cold to full hot?
Thank you, no noises at all when changing from cold to hot, or hot to cold. The hot setting works just fine. I wonder if there is a position sensor related to door itself that can be reprogrammed or calibrated so to speak... if the door is intended to close to block any heat the thought was maybe that door is not closing all the way like it should.
There are two actuators (or three, if you have dual climate control) for the Titan, but I believe all of them are the same part number. I haven’t had to replace the temperature actuator in my Titan, but if I do, I will try to do a video on it as well.
thank you firstly. i was wondering if its in the same position for Nissan note 2014 and mine it starts if its in low temperature when i raise up the temp the noise will stop! any idea what can be causing the noise is it the same part? i am a student and i dont want to spend money on mechanic. ur help will be truly appreciated.
It’s probably a similar part. I doubt it’s in the same location as my blend door actuator in my Titan, as the actuator for heat/cold for mine is behind the dash and accessed through the glove box (I think, I haven’t had to replace that one, yet). If you can easily replicate the noise, I’d look for a schematic for your vehicle for the location of the actuators, then feel each one as you get it to make the clicking sound. It will be easy to tell which one needs to be replaced by feeling it make the “click.”
Those are all the steps I used to replace it. My Titan doesn’t have the Rockford Fosgate premium audio package. The amp for that sits in the way otherwise. As for getting in there, it’s easiest to lay on your back (cleaning the floorboard is also a recommended step) then perform some hand gymnastics while getting a glutes workout.
You kinda left out the part about removing that black wiring box that's in your way. Because of that I removed the part below it first because I didn't see the correct part
I'm having an issue where I've replaced the actuator and now the ticking is gone but the climate control isn't working. No air temp changes. Having trouble finding this specific issue, most I find is heat related not both.
There may be a problem with the temperature control blend door actuator as well. I thankfully haven't had to replace that in my truck, but from my understanding, it can be accessed from behind the glove compartment.
So, let me preface this that I have never attempted it. However it looks like according to the official Nissan Service Bulletin, removal of the entire dash is required. I feel like there should be a chance of getting to it without going through all of that, but just a warning for you. I found the Service Bulletin from post #4 in this forum thread: www.titantalk.com/threads/mode-door-actuator.157637/
@@FixandMaintain Thank you! The Blend door actuator above the gas pedal was broken. I opened it to see that middle gear mount broke off. So now I'm just trying to troubleshoot the temp not changing. I've ordered a snake camera to double check and make sure that the assembly of the actuator didn't somehow pop out a pin for the white piece that it plugs into. I will also use that to try and find the actuator you're referring too and praying that if it broke(no noise after fixing the other one) I can get to it.
More specifically, that’s the blend door actuator that operates the mode function. This has already been very well discussed here in the comment section.
No, I didn’t remove anything to get to it. Mine is a 2007 SE trim with standard audio. If you have Rockford Fosgate audio, then there is an extra module in the way.
Hi. I have an 2007 Armada. Mine made a knocking noise when it first starts up (makes a knock about 15 times then stops). I never have the AC on when starting. I wait for the clicks to stop and then turn it on. Never happens when driving or when shutting off. Air blows strong and cold (after I recharged it about a week ago). It sounds like the center of the dash, but unsure as it could be a bit lower. DO you know if the part is in the same location as yours? Great video BTW. Thanks!
Sounds like the fresh air/recirculate actuator. Try pressing the button on the left (inside the fan speed knob) while the vehicle is running and see if the noise happens then.
@@FixandMaintain I did. Never makes the noise again. It's strange. Usually knocks in .5 second intervals (consistent speed/tempo) then stops. Does it just about everytime I start the car. Doesnt matter if it's cold or warmed up. Doesnt do it when driving...or when I shut it off.
It definitely sounds like an actuator, but very strange that you can’t get it to make the noise by changing the controls. I’m sorry I can’t help you David.
@@FixandMaintain "and" they're completely different parts and completely different locations. The one you did was the "mode door" just in case you don't know what you're doing. Yet your title says blend door??
I agree that that particular part does change the blend of the mode door (when in the position in this video), but the part is called an HVAC Blend Door Actuator, thus my use of blend door in the title. If the part had been called the mode door actuator, I would have titled it accordingly. Even if you search Mode Door Actuator on Amazon, the results are all blend door actuators.
Decent enough video but it shows the mode actuator. the blend door actuator is on passenger side at upper dash. Can be accessed with some effort through glove box.
Yes, this is the blend door actuator for the mode door. Thankfully the temperature blend door hasn't gone out on my Titan. But if it does, I will definitely be making a video of replacing it.
The specific blend door that I replaced in this video is for the mode selector (as opposed to a temperature blend door), but the part is nonetheless a blend door actuator. Also for SEO purposes, I intentionally titled it Blend Door Actuator, but tried to make it obvious that it was for the Mode selector blend door on the thumbnail image.
@FixandMaintain never have I gone to an O'Reilly's and they say it like that. It's a mode door actuator, a blend door , a main door actuator. Still should change it title it is mis leading. I was looking for a blend door actuator
Oh this was a pain to get changed out. Dropped screws in between the carpet and the flooring multiple times and the white plastic piece that the actuator plugs into at the gear fell out. So just a time consuming thing after time consuming thing. I know now that doing mechanic work is 55% mechanical knowledge and 45% contortionist.
@@BledJ73 I took off the black plastic piece in front of where the white plastic was. Two screws. Then put the white piece back and popped the black piece back on with the two screws again. Was the only way to see how it lined up.
Haha, yes, contortionist skills would definitely be a plus for this repair. I had to lay on my back the whole time and look straight up when doing it. It was even harder trying to get the best camera angle with my GoPro and also finding a place to get my LED panel to stay to film this video.
Sounds like you may need to replace the hot/cold blend door as well. Thankfully mine is still working fine, but I'll definitely make a video if mine goes out in the future.
I don’t disagree with you. Just calling the part by its name. I think the part is called the blend door actuator since it’s the same part for both blend/mode doors.
Glad to help! It takes so much extra time to set up cameras and lights that sometimes I wonder if it's worth it to film. I'll try to be a little more proactive with filming Titan projects in the future!
Honestly I think the majority of people with first Gen titans would never have to replace these actuators in the first place if they would slowly, one by one switch from vent to vent. My titan is 13 years old and the blend door actuator still works because I turn the dial one click, wait, then turn it again, wait, then turn again and so on until I get the vent I'm looking for. I don't skip ahead. Don't over work the actuator, treat it nicely.
I’m going to have to disagree with you on that. Mine didn’t give me any problems until I was leaving work one morning with the temp below freezing and I had to turn the defroster on. I think the blend door was frozen in place and moving it before the truck was warmed up may have caused the gear to break. I personally think turning one click at a time and waiting in between would cause more stress on the actuator, since it constantly has to overcome static friction instead of continuing the motion in one go.
@@FixandMaintain I haven't thought about it repeatedly having to overcome static friction. Perhaps you're right. But speaking just from my experience, my actuator has done the clicking noise on a few occasions and I realized it only happened when I skipped ahead on the dial. Once I started going one by one the clicking hasn't been back.
@@FixandMaintain I'm going to start the beginning of next month. So I'll do a little more research and keep you in mind. Thanks for the reply back and for the future support. Much Love
We each have our priorities. Being able to switch the blend door to all positions (upper vents to lower vents to defrost) is important to me and well worth the $18 I spent on a new actuator and the 30 minutes it took to install it. Also helps years down the road when I go to sell the truck and can tell the buyer that the truck doesn't have any issues.
@@FixandMaintain dont sell the Titan. Keep it forever. Till its a rusty pile. But on the actuator, mine still switches everywhere it should, it just clicks and takes a few extra seconds till it finally grabs. Not sure if mine broke in a unique way, but as ive said its been going for atleast 8 years and hasnt broken further. So ive just left it. If its anything like the stupid gas tank filler neck, its going to keep failing. Ive gotten at least 3 of them replaced under warranty its super annoying because they just got replaced with the same part, or one with the same issue.
Ok, that makes more sense. Mine broke off enough teeth on one of the gears that it wouldn’t switch to defrost. What issue have you had with the gas filler neck? I’ve had my 07 Titan for six years and haven’t had any issues (besides making a whistling noise when it’s getting full, but not not really an issue). Maybe the previous owner fixed the problem before I bought it 🤷🏼♂️.
@@FixandMaintain i have an 04 a very early 04. it spits gas when you fill it too quickly. its likely due to a breather getting clogged up or something. but it always happens. so its ignored as long as possible. problem is that it causes the check engine light to come on sometimes eventually. i just replaced it recently without warranty and its likely still going to do the same thing. its been in my family since 05 i think. only had 1300 miles on it. only issue that sort of happened early were the power steering and radiator both died when the truck was 11 years old . ive had to replace wheel bearings and all that. besides 1. no other out of the ordinary issues. i love the thing.
He makes it so easy to replace but the truth is this 2nd actuator location is very hard to get to. Some loosen screws and disconnect and bend wire harnesses frame just to loosen screws. Screws sizes are not the same. Stupid Nissan. This would be my last nissan.
My truck has been a fantastic vehicle and has had very few problems overall. I'm not defending Nissan, but I'm sure you can find many things to be frustrated about on any vehicle. On my Titan, other than having to lay on my back in the driver's floorboard and do some hand gymnastics, this actuator wasn't that hard to replace. It definitely helped that I have the standard sound system so that I don't have the extra Rockford Fosgate audio controller in the way.
I agree that that particular part does change the blend of the mode door, but the part is called an “HVAC Blend Door Actuator,” thus my use of “blend door” in the title. If the part had been called the mode door actuator, I would have titled it accordingly. Even if you search Mode Door Actuator on Amazon, the results all say blend door actuator.
Just left my mechanic who’s working on a couple other things. I have the blend door actuator issue (passenger side blows cold, drivers side blows warm with the dual Climate control). He quoted $750 and a 5 hour job. I imagine he’s thinking he’s got to take the dash apart but I told him not to fix it and I will tackle it soon.
Tim, to my knowledge, there’s three different actuators in the Titan: Mode blend door, Temp blend door, & recirculate/fresh air door. With dual climate control, there should be two temp blend doors. The temp and recirc actuators are closer to the passenger side and may require dash disassembly. The mode blend door is the only one that I’ve had to replace, but if I do have to replace the others in the future, I’ll definitely be doing a video on it.
I agree on the 3 actuators. But when you mention 2 for dual climate control, then isn’t there really 4? Regardless I don’t think it’s the the drivers side by foot panel area and it’s the same one in your video up higher on the drivers side. Especially when I can feel it in that area and the ticking from going say from defrost back to floor and to face vent etc.
Was your a/c blowing cold when you drive but when you stop it will blow warm im having this issue and I’m getting that click click now right by my feet
Great camera work and clear instructions. I appreciate the time and effort you put into this repair. Your video for this repair is second to none.
Thanks!
How do you do it with the Rockford fosgate system in the way?
I haven’t had a chance to look at one with that system, so I’m not sure how much harder it makes it. Theoretically everything is exactly the same, just with significantly less room to work.
Man I'm glad I found your channel this morning. My 2006 did this until the AT went out and I got a used 2012 that does the same thing. I figured out how to fix my ignition tune key issue and this today.
That’s great, glad to be able to help!
How many does a 2010 Nissan titan se has?
That’s great! Yeah, definitely not the most convenient access for it. Glad to be able to help!
Hooray, best video I've seen on this, just replaced mine using this video. Finally noise is gone after putting up with it for years. Thanks!
Great! I know, it’s so annoying, but thankfully it’s not that hard of a fix! (For the mode blend door, at least…)
Ahhh the things you find on UA-cam. I just ordered the replacement actuator. I was actually doing research for speaker replacement when I came upon your video. It will be nice to have the blend door working properly again. Nice video!
Thanks! Glad to be able to help!
Amazing Video and Instruction. Thank you for that. I was able to gather proper tools and replace and test within 30 mins on my 2007 Titan and only removed the kick panel. I was able to work around the module/amp that is mounted on the 2 brackets. No more tapping ! Thanks again.
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback!
I appreciate the feedback!
I appreciate the video! How come other folks are having such a hard time doing this job compared to you? One guy even took the whole dash apart!
Very good video. Excellent camera angles. That isn't typical of repair help videos.
Thanks! Yes, since I’m just a DIY mechanic and do other videography projects as well on the side, I have the tools and skills to make better videos than mechanics who are trying to get the job done quickly. It’s surprising just how much time it adds to a job to set up tripods and lighting for shots!
Best video on this replacement I have seen.
Thanks!
Very nice well done video, my dad and I been looking for hours and this just saved us, Appreciate the great job you made!
Thank you! Glad to be able to help!
@FixandMaintain I did not check. You made it look pretty easy. For me, I felt like a contortionist lol. I will check. And thanks again!
@kevinskubleny687 sorry for not accurately conveying the acrobatics required for access, but I assure you, you’re not alone. 😜
If it weren’t for my GoPro and a magnetic mount, I wouldn’t have been able to get the shots like I did.
Great instructions and camera work, the clicking noise is on both sides,so I'm replacing them one at a time, thanks.
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback!
Great video. Bout time someone gets straight to the point. Thanks
Thanks! Yeah, when I was researching this before I attempted it myself it was hard to find a video of exactly what needed to be done.
@@FixandMaintain I just bought my actuator today. Gonna tackle it this weekend. It's to cold lol
Great video
So many bad videos out there I was surprised to see a good one and had to comment
Thank you!
Great video. If you had used a OEM part purchased from Nissan you wouldn't need to do the melting of the plastic..right?
Can I manually change it for the time being while waiting for the new actuator? Mines stuck on defrost and it’s hot asf this time of year
Technically yes; but might take a bit to get it right, so do at your own risk.
@@FixandMaintain do you know which way I’d have to turn it if it’s stuck on defrost ?
I don’t, but I would assume since defrost is at one extreme, it should only turn one direction.
@@FixandMaintain 10-4 thanks for the info
Hi Random,
Does your Titan have the Rockford Fosgate stereo?
For mine, I'm just not getting the clear line of sight that you have in your video behind the bracket. And that is because there is a module directly behind the bracket. Unless I'm missing something. Thanks for posting the video.
No, mine has the basic stereo in it.
Please post back here with any steps you had to take to work around the extra module!
Yup 11 pro4x here and its A LOT more difficult. I have 3 modules pancaked in there.
You should be able to see the 2 amp plugs you need to get out above the accelerator, and 1 for the sat radio but note there is also a purple antenna lead on the upper left side of the sat radio module too that you have to unplug.
no one can't either. Either this Titan that he's working on just model for this video or out the junk yardf
2008 armada did anyone have to melt to get the actuater on? Either I have the wrong one or I'm doing something wrong. Its like nothing is lining up dispite the grooves appear to be in the spot when inserting. I have the same one in this video
Why does the ac blow slow on 2010 Nissan Armada I change motor relay also the filters any other recommendations?
Does it sound like the blower motor is actually ramping up to full speed? Have you checked the blower motor itself to make sure it doesn’t need to be cleaned or replaced?
Can you temporarily close the door till the part comes in
You could take the actuator off, separate the two halves, reposition the output shaft, then put it all back together and reinstall after twisting the door position manually.
Are you hearing a clicking/ticking sound when it’s not switching to cold?
Your a gentleman and a scholar my good man!!!
Thank you, glad to be of assistance!
I have the exact same setup as you. I attempted this fix, but the white plastic piece the actuator fits into fell out of position as I tried to fit the actuator in it. Any tips on how to get that back into proper position? Great video- best one on UA-cam for this fix.
Were you able to get it back on with @TheGrayman1234's tip of removing the black piece in front of the white "gear"?
@@FixandMaintain Hi - I haven’t tackled it just yet - but the other video he referenced certainty put my mind at ease. I’m confident I’ll be able to get it done. I’m waiting on the OEM Nissan actuator - I thought I ordered the OEM part but the one that came was the same as in your video, and I want to avoid melting/modifying anything. Thanks!
@@FixandMaintain Got it done. Thanks for the great video and thanks @TheGrayman1234 for the help!
@@FixandMaintain The blower motor isn't running. No air is coming out at all.
@@FixandMaintain I greatly appreciate your feedback. Yes, given what you've suggested I'll get a new and get to work. Thank you.
@@FixandMaintain Thank you
My ac works only through 2 vents and it's hot through the other two, will this fix that issue?
Probably not. Does your model have dual zone climate controls?
@@FixandMaintain yes
@anthonywilliams7432 did you figure this out. I believe my 2008 Infiniti qx56 is in the same boat.
Excellent video and excellent explanation..,... that's exactly what my Armada needs.
Thanks! Glad to be able to help!
Just move the actuator arm behind the actuator with your hand. I had to do that. The actuator only goes in one way.

Yikes. I'm glad that wasn't an issue for me! Did you have to completely disconnect the amplifier? How hard is it to remove?
@@FixandMaintain so far it’s a huge pain, there’s two connectors at the bottom one comes off pretty easy, the other I have to pull the unit off the bracket to get the other connector off, you have to remove one side of the bracket from the amp so it’ll pass the gas pedal, and then you can get to the top screw in the actuator. I tried to get the connectors out of the body module but I can only get one of the connectors out, the other two look like they have a security clip holding them in so it’s kinda hanging out under there..
Yikes! So glad mine didn’t have all that in the way. Sounds like it adds quite a bit of time to the project.
Well my blend door actuator to control the temp. Is on the upper passenger side on top of the hvac box near the firewall. Scraped up the arms to get to it. But I got it. Can only imagine what the shop would of charged
I think it’s the same part for both locations. Thankfully my temp blend door is still working fine, so I haven’t had to replace it yet.
@@FixandMaintain I took the top of the heatercore lid off.and gave me a little more room
Is this for "mode door" actuator or "blend door" actuator?
Yes.
The specific blend door that I replaced in this video is for the mode selector (as opposed to a temperature blend door), but it is nonetheless a blend door actuator.
@@FixandMaintain Thank you
Mode door or blend door? Ur turning the mode door knob
The part is called a blend door actuator. The knob I’m turning is the mode door knob. So it’s a blend door to control which mode the airflow is going.
There are quite a few things it could be. How long has it been since you replaced your cabin air filter?
Would this cause the cabin to not have heat? Mine clicks when like the demo. I have a 08 Titan SE
I didn’t have the knobs in any specific position. The actuator is able to communicate its position to the truck, so I don’t think it matters.
Do you think this part would work on a '12 murano? I have the same click when i try to switch and its been blowing out just defrost and floor for months
I believe you’ll be looking for Nissan part #: 27731-EG000 - Mode Actuator Assembly.
from beginning to end, how long did it take you?
Including setting up camera gear and getting the light panel and camera in those tight spaces, it probably took me around 2 hours total. If I were to do it again, it would probably take me 15-20 minutes.

Is this the same as 2005
Yes, it should be.
@ thank you. It seems there are several actuators. How did you know this one was the right one?
Do you have a video for replacement of the door latch mechanism 2013 Titan rear left door will not open inside or out. I have the door panel removed.
I don't, sorry. Thankfully my 07 Titan hasn't had any door latch issues.
It looks like you removed something to get in there, what was it? How is a full grown human supposed to get in there?
Those are all the steps I used to replace it. My Titan doesn’t have the Rockford Fosgate premium audio package. The amp for that sits in the way otherwise.
As for getting in there, it’s easiest to lay on your back (cleaning the floorboard is also a recommended step) then perform some hand gymnastics while getting a glutes workout.
Thanks friend, the problem of mine was not the actuator was stuck. Grasias amigo
Glad to be able to help
I’m trying to this in my 2010 infinity qx56
👍🏼
You kinda left out the part about removing that black wiring box that's in your way. Because of that I removed the part below it first because I didn't see the correct part
No, I didn’t leave that part out. My truck has the base model audio package, so it doesn’t have the additional Rockford Fosgate audio amp there.
@@FixandMaintain oh ok so the temp has a different actuator? I don't mind getting a little behind the glove box to fix an actuator if that's the issue
@@FixandMaintain also Nissan offered to "check" for $1.1k then go from there. They want to take the dash apart but I might just have to try myself.
Thanks because my husband wouldn’t work on mine after months did it myself
You’re welcome, glad to be able to help!
it is the same problem I have with my Nissan titan thanks for your video
You're welcome!
I believe that's mode door actuator
More specifically, that’s the blend door actuator that operates the mode function. This has already been very well discussed here in the comment section.
Muchas gracias por tu vídeo fue muy fácil con tus intrusiones gracias (thanks for you video )

You had to remove something to get them tools in there I have 2010 Titan there no way I can get any tool to get them screws out
No, I didn’t remove anything to get to it.
One minute you called it the mode actuator and then you called it a blend door actuator?
And? It lets you change which mode the blend door is in to control airflow.
You made it look easy lol
Haha, it’s amazing how much an edited video can speed things up!
Ya you need to change the title this is the mode door actuator. It seems that someone has already posted a similar post. This is wrong info ppl!!!!
On my Titan it’s the same part for both the mode blend door and the temperature blend door 🤷🏼♂️
@@FixandMaintain I guess I even wrote you 2 years ago.
HUGE thumbs up!!!! 👍
How did you get the white plastic piece back into position? Same thing happened to me…
@@BledJ73 I took off the black plastic piece in front of where the white plastic was. Two screws. Then put the white piece back and popped the black piece back on with the two screws again.
Was the only way to see how it lined up.
@@TheGrayman1234 Thanks for responding! I guess I will have to do the same….
@@BledJ73 Watch ua-cam.com/video/E0sjVqdownM/v-deo.html at about 4:05
Haha, yes, contortionist skills would definitely be a plus for this repair. I had to lay on my back the whole time and look straight up when doing it. It was even harder trying to get the best camera angle with my GoPro and also finding a place to get my LED panel to stay to film this video.
That knocking noise can get annoying, but I have that knocking noise coming from the passenger side as well.
Sounds like you may need to replace the hot/cold blend door as well. Thankfully mine is still working fine, but I'll definitely make a video if mine goes out in the future.
Thank you!
You’re welcome!
Good job
Thanks!
I got 2007 Armada and it does not seem to be that easy
Does yours have the Rockford Fosgate audio system?
Very helpful, thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
I believe you changed the 'MODE door' actuator, not the blend door.
I don’t disagree with you. Just calling the part by its name. I think the part is called the blend door actuator since it’s the same part for both blend/mode doors.
this was very helpful!!!!
it would be nice to see more videos with the titan maintenance
Glad to help! It takes so much extra time to set up cameras and lights that sometimes I wonder if it's worth it to film. I'll try to be a little more proactive with filming Titan projects in the future!
I agree. I have a fishing channel...however...instead of filming while fishing...I just fished...lol
great help,,,!!
Glad it helped!

@@FixandMaintain
I haven't thought about it repeatedly having to overcome static friction. Perhaps you're right.
But speaking just from my experience, my actuator has done the clicking noise on a few occasions and I realized it only happened when I skipped ahead on the dial. Once I started going one by one the clicking hasn't been back.
Where do you live. I would pay you to help me. Not do it for me, but help me.
There’s not really much to it. If you have any questions while you’re doing it, just leave a comment on here and I’ll do my best to help you out.
@@FixandMaintain I'm going to start the beginning of next month. So I'll do a little more research and keep you in mind. Thanks for the reply back and for the future support. Much Love
i just let it click. been doing it for atleast 8 years now and hasnt had any further issues. not worth the time or money to me. even if its cheap.
That's not the "blend door" actuator that's the "mode door" actuator just in case you don't know the difference.
And it does the ticking noise when changing from defrost to vent to foot etc. so I agree on the blend door actuator title
You skipped part of the procedure. Terrible video
Would you like to elaborate? I’m not sure what you’re talking about
Was your a/c blowing cold when you drive but when you stop it will blow warm im having this issue and I’m getting that click click now right by my feet
No, mine was strictly the mode blend door to adjust head/foot/defrost.
