Babish wasn't taking a break, Babish was actually just on a trip to Rock Bottom to get us this recipe. And we thank him for it!
i think we're all on a trip to rock bottom
Don't you mean bikini bottom? That is the name of the town where spongebob lives
@@cassandrakarpinski9416 Rock Bottom is the name of the location he visits within the episode the video's food item is taken from.
Hopefully he didn’t have too much trouble getting a bus back home…

Never in a million years did I think I'd learn how to make Kelp Nougat Crunch from Spongebob Squarepants. That's why I love this channel so much.
I forgot this existed but bless Babby for this deep dive
ah yes and now to make my ghetto version because I'm too poor to buy these ingredients XD rice crispie treats and foot coloring with chocolate works wonders XD
@@Symbolic-Sky Foot coloring...?
@@geraltofrivia323 yes
Whats funny and depressing is that after like 500 years, no one will remember the existance of spongebob squarepants. And there is a chance, in million years no one will remember the existance of human race. What if there have been advanced and inteligent civilisations really simmiliar to us, and they just went extinct? If this is true, then it is really possible that we will be next. All positive memories, all happiness, will be gone. We are humans, and we like to imagine things like space, and physics to be way stronger than they can be. Who knows? Black holes could be a final border... but what if they aren't? Maybe, all those events that happened will be repeated after the end of the universe, but there is always a chance they will not. We may become the same old cosmic dust we have been before we became organic material. Our bodies will form clusters in space, that will form celestial bodies. We may live on the planet partially made of our exaterrestial ancestors.
i like how the first pieces of candy he cut are, like, exactly sponge-sized. the nori even looks like an abrasive side!

a really weird recipe
Bro, this episode of Spongebob was like a fever dream for me. Half of myself thought that this entire episode was just me making it up from my dreams
im annoyed by this episode he always gets so close to get on the bus but doesnt get in it
When I think of this episode I mostly think of when SpongeBob hits the bus driver with his balloon 😂
Yo same, I was very entertained by the environment in this episode.
@Don't read profile photo ok I won’t
This episode terrified me as a kid. Like it scared me but I couldn't say why honestly.
Not sure if you've done it yet, but doing the Krusty Krab pizza would be pretty awesome
since it’s a pizza made from a krusty krab he could try to use his krusty krab recipe to make it 😲
Feast of Fiction has a krusty krab pizza video if you just want to see it done and don't mind by who, they made it decently too- seemed like a proper if strange combo of pizza and burger.

He did Krabby Patties!
Pretty Patties just have food coloring added to the recipe for regular patties...
Don't forget sequin milkshakes and bowtie french fries if you're going to suggest that.
Since jellyfish is the equivalent of bees, I imagine the real life equal of Krabby Patty with jellyfish jelly would be a burger with honey-based sauce

i always imagined the kelp crunch as a sort of Sea-salted Caramel bar of some kind... interesting to see other people's take on it!
In the german Dub its called "caramel Nougat crunsh" :D

Welcome back! I’ve seen nougat with seaweed in Asian stores (looked like nougat with nuts and sandwiched between sheets of nori). Loved the addition of rice krispy treat crunch in your Babish-fied version.
I like how this is a fully grown man lovingly recreating recipes from our childhood. And teaching us how to along the way.
this actually seems like a nice thing to make, I bet the saltiness of the seaweed/kelp pair nicely with the sweet mallows and chocolate
Seeing a new spongebob recipe is one of the reasons I'm subbed

Great to have you back Andrew!! Hope you enjoyed your break!
This made me think it was a Reptar Bar for a second. When you painted it green, it immediately jogged in my memory how I wanted one when I was a kid. I would love to see that. Love the obscure selection of this from the first season of Spongebob.
Mr. Babish, I just graduated college! Your videos were/are a staple to my success and I’m so glad to welcome you back from your time away. Thank you so much for everything :)
I got a "sea" selection of chocolates from a place in Gaspe, Quebec, that included seaweed, spruce, mushroom and some fourth local flavour, maybe a berry or maple syrup? and the seaweed and the spruce were amazing!
Ooh, seaweed, spruce, and mushroom flavors sounds super intriguing. I would love to try them.
mushroom chocolate? spruce chocolate? i rlly wanna try that
mushroom chocolate kinda sounds like drugs tho ngl
@@proddelle funnily enough there are magic mushroom chocolate bars
Seaweed and spruce chocolate? Interesting. I've been to Quebec loads but never seen that combination. I will have to properly take a look next time I visit!
Could have been maple, though there are a bunch or regional berries as well. Then again you'd think a "sea" selection would have been sold in the maritime and include more than one flavor from the sea
In case you're curious the specific seaweed was dulse a species of kelp, and some people around here eat it dried all by itself
Looks wonderful! And green, it's so perfect!
5:02 Finally someone who used Rock Bottom's language properly! xD
You know - I never even thought about any of the foods on cartoons until this channel. Now I can't wait to watch every time Babish makes up a recipe for them.
You should definitely make the glove candy with“glove flavours”.
Ew! Glove flavored!
I had a big smile on my face this entire video, but the grin got twice as wide when I heard your flawless accent at the end of the video. Glad to have you back, Babish.

Hope you're doing well! Also, apparently nouget is traditionally made with honey intead of the glucose syrup, with the glucose or corn syrup being a British/American thing.
Great to see you back, Babish! Besides the obvious krabby patties (along with their many alternative forms), there are a ton of other food options from the Spongebob universe and I'm glad to see more of these. Kelp Nougat Crunch is one I kinda forgot about, but the version made here actually looks great! Nice work as always, especially for an item that you never actually see minus the wrapper.
This really captures the old Babish feel that was missing for a while, great job!
He's back! And he made a really weird recipe that I will never actually try! All is right in the world again.
Blue food always looked really cool to me
Fun little fact because I can provide it-- nori is considered a type of seaweed. It comes from pyropia, a type of red algae! It gets pressed out into big sheets that turn green in the drying process.
Kombu, however, is a type of kelp you could've gotten
/almost/ as easily as nori. Its a lot thicker than nori, and not flaky at all (at least when its in dried sheet form. Most of the kombu I've seen has always been in tiny but long shredded pieces cased in little furikake shakers.) It has a lot stronger "fishy" taste to it too.
I just felt like sharing that cause I could 😆😆 this is still a hilariously excellent dish, one that I would totally try just for the fun of it!!
Man oh man That Spongebob episode took me back, great job on the episode and respecting the proper dialect. lol
Glad you're back, but any time you need a break, you've got some of the best backup around!
Thanks to Kendall (the Winston Wolf of BCU), Alvin, The Soy Boys and Rick Martinez for entertaining us!
Super happy to see a new episode! Surprised you didn't use candied kelp seeing as it's already a thing but toasted nori sheets are definitely the most delicious of the seaweed so it's pretty understandable. Yum!
Man i've missed Babish. Glad to see you back at making more dishes, mate. I really appreciate it!

The most interesting thing to come out of the most frusturating episode of SpongeBob
Never would I have thought kelp could sound so appealing inside of a candy bar, but here I am...
I'll be honest.
I had no idea what Kelp, Nougat, or Crunch were when I first saw this episode.
I was also 4 years old and this was the first episode I ever saw, so I had questions for my mom.
Neat to finally see it all come together!

I've been asking for a kelp shake for years
Of all the things in this episode I always wanted the glove candies that are dispensed from the bigger glove
"An uneven candy bar is made by an uneven mind"

Wow!
You'd think salty seaweed wouldn't go well with a candy bar!
2000: SpongeBob writers make up a kelp candy bar as a throwaway joke because "they're sea creatures so they'd eat kelp candy right?"
2022: Babish not only makes the kelp candy a reality, he also makes it appetizing to humans.

it's always weird to me that THAT is what americans call nougat,
here in europe nougat is fundamentally based on hazelnuts, which is also where the word "nougat" actually comes from
“You got two minutes before this guy starts to harden.”
-Babish, 2022
Nothing like both being calmed and obtaining hunger.
Glad you're back after your break!!
I'm not sure if it's a cultural thing but I have never seen or even heard of a kind of nougat without nuts in it, so this cought me by surprise.
I kinda want to know what this would taste like with the nougat I grew up instead of this one.
This does look very yummy though.
Three Musketeers candy bar, and Milkyway candy bar are two examples, of nougat without nuts, that I can think of. The Milkyway is basically a Snickers without nuts, and the Three Musketeer leaves out the caramel also, so it's just nougat, without nuts, covered in chocolate. My understanding is that the international version of these use a vanilla nougat, while the U.S. versions uses a chocolate nougat.
@@notahotshot We have Milky Ways aswell but I never thought of the filling as nougat, it's always been simply some airy sticky cream. Though perhaps that's what you mean?
I'm really starting to think it's really a cultural thing like how different countries differentiate between what's a cookie vs what's a biscuit or crisps vs chips or what's pudding or something like that.
I even looked up the definition of nougat in our (my countries) dictionary.
Roughly translated it says: "a mass made out of finely chopped and roasted nuts or almonds, sugar and cocoa (either a confectionary or the filling of one)". Though there is actually a (by us) lesser used white version without cocoa but still with nuts.
Oh and our Milky Way bars are without caramel. If you want the Milky Way filling with caramel, you'd have to eat a Mars bar instead.
@@kurokitsune5659 the Mars company (who makes the 3 musketeers bar) describes the filling as a nougat, though a mousse might be more accurate 🙂
@@b.r.5146 I looked this up actually and I really think we just call it by a different name. For example the English Wikipedia site (not the best source I know but it's 9pm where I'm at and I'm to lazy to do throughou research) it clearly states that the Mars filling is nougat but the one in my my language states it's "Candycreme", which is basically sugar cream. So we're both right. It's originally called nougat, my country simply has a different definition of the term so we call by another name.
Thank very much for this enlightening conversation.
Some tips about measuring glucose syrup I learnt from a professional nougat maker I went to cooking school with, weight out the syrup into the same bowl with the sugar to stop it sticking, and the best scoop to measure it out with (at least in larger quantities like) is a wet hand. Thanks George for the tips!
