    I’ve been saying it for years: Exploration is the single biggest untapped gameplay loop that SC’s competition has that SC doesn’t have.

      ​@@anhingathing2382there will be rewards. Imagine all the exploring you're currently doing, but every now and then you get a signal on your sensors. You follow it, and buried away in some nook or cranny is an ancient artifact, or a data chip with rare blueprints, or a forgotten cache of valuable cargo, or what have you. This is intended gameplay

      @@bahdudejhosh_official I don't know maybe *you* haven't been exploring, because as far as I know every exploration feature is non-existent, Stanton is fully mapped and fully explored and people have learned virtually every single important/semi-important place by heart over the years, you can easily run accross the entire system with little to no concern for fuel in most ships and as someone already said there's no reward for doing exploration : exploration in SC is just running around like an idiot with no purpose, trying to find good scenery as if you're making a movie, if anything it is nothing more than tourism which you can easily do in any other open world game.
      If we apply the same logic then every OW game has a deeper exploration system including the garbage AC games and even GTA 5 (which is not known for this) because you can find random stuff like wrecks scatterred all accross the map.
      As I stated this isn't exploration, at best it's tourism and at worst it's nothing more than wondering around like an idiot

    I am really hoping for some kind of Alien-esque moments where you have to land at an abandoned station, then make your way inside to reactivate or retrieve components you need to get your ship out of there. Maybe something lives on the station. Maybe it’s just your imagination.

      Sounds like an episode out of Star Trek. It'd be awesome if we could experience moments that we see in space sci-fi TV shows in SC. Being a space game, SC seems to lack a lot of the "unknown" factor that comes with being.. in space.

      Power plant needs a new transformer, find an old one in a maintenance panel on the old station, polish it up, slot it in. You're moving again. Sounds sick.

    They really need to bring back some of those much smaller stations, but have them way out at the farther edges of systems.

      It'd be cool to have small stations on the far edges that require you to bring supplies in order to use the facilities or bringing them necessary items to upgrade which in turn will bring more base functionality/NPCs, etc....

      @@danielcole945 I'm willing to bet you money that's an eventuality. Pre-defined nodes, whether they be stations, refineries, cities, ect. If you know the game, think Ashes of Creation in space sort of.
      It's easily by far the best addition they could make to a game like this. They're already going for organizations and factions, with an emphasis on resource extraction, trading, player made economy, ect. And it's a sandbox, it's the next logical step for the game, and an amazing one at that. I'd lose my mind.

    Towns with localized gameplay is whats going to change the game imo. Especially in the main landing zones. I think it will be the biggest improvement to the onboarding experience among about 100 other reasons.

      Ya like missions within a city. That’s what i’ve been waiting for. Like bounty missions in a city. But for that we need working ai for police in cities

      @@da1memer192 yeah bounty missions that make you go to more obscure parts of the city that aren't often visited like the back alleys of a18. Repair missions to fix the various kinds of equipment. Hacking or covert style missions where you sneak through vents to get access to restricted areas. Heist style missions or opportunities. Cargo management at the warehouses for some of these in game corps like kel-to. Even just delivery missions from the space port to the shopping district or vice versa. You could have a mission where you have to clear a hangar of hostiles. The possibilities are endless. You could make each city or settlement feel like their own localized little game space where you could spend days or even weeks on a single planet doing different types of content before finally boarding your ship and going to another city or planet. Right now there's no reason to be at any of the landing zones other than to buy ships/parts and its a real shame when you see how much detail is in each one.

      Yeah I’d love to see GTA style story missions in the cities. Add that along with the reputation system would add a whole new life to this game.

      They seem to be starting a bit with Distribution Centers. Hopefully by 4.1 we have some good selections to keep us in one area for a couple hours at least.

      @@SpaceTomato correction, the single most important feature to the games success is a WORKING network. Server meshing doesn't mean much(although it is incredibly important) if they can't get the netcode smooth. As it stands right now even STARBASE, yes... Starbase has better netcode than Star Citizen. That's a big issue

      Additionally I think the games a long ways off, despite all the things you mentioned yet to do. I mean content wise they could already release the game(if net code worked) and it be better than most AAA titles lately. Contents not the issue though really(though we want all that stuff), it's fundamentals.
      Netcode, physics(and flight physics, the flight physics are awful for a game that's suppose to sit heavy on the side of realism and innovation), graphical work(the water still looks like a 2014 game and particle effects are very low quality), and optimization.
      Between all those fundamentals I named they have years and years and years of work left, that's not counting the additional content.

    One thing I'm surprised you didn't bring up in the "Some Other Possibilities" is Vulkan Multi Threading, I'd honestly Be very surprised if we don't see it in that update.
    Also I'm gunna be honest, if they want to get me hyped for 4.0, make the damn Vending Machines work 🤣 it's been so many years those things have just been taunting us.

    I do love this tomato. He's just the most pro commentator on the game.
    Know's his shit. Knows how to present it. Silky smooth radio voice, too.
    Bored gamer blabbers on for ages without getting to the point.
    Inforunner's (I'm aware that's a second channel for mr tomato) have a lot of filler content too and they also encourage dropping too much cash in.
    SaltEMike is a little intense in his feelings about the game, but he is well structured and usually on the money in his analysis.
    Loud guns is also really cool but doesn't produce as much content, and I feel he's a "too forgiving" a critic.
    Morphologis is a bit narrow in his focus but does his thang very well.

      Christ, yeah. I worked with Bored once and he's a nice guy, but I despise his videos because of his stream-of-consciousness rambling. Getting any actual information out of his videos is a real struggle when it's all so unstructured.

      I'm glad i'm not the only one. I love bored as a person. Seeing him in interviews are very fun to watch but his videos I literally cant pay attention to it because hes just constantly off tangent instead of getting straight to the point. Same with SuperMac. Love him. His videos and Bored's just sound like they say a whole lot of nothing the whole time...

      I cannot listen to Bored longer than 3 minutes without my mind wandering.
      It unfair to accuse a content creator as 'too forgiving' simply because their opinion differs from your own. They're entitled to their own thoughts & feelings too. Instead of judging someone for being 'too forgiving' engage in a respectful dialog about why you disagree. Differing opinions are a natural part of life, and it's essential to approach with an open mind & listen to others' perspectives. Don't be that "everybody who disagrees with me is wrong" guy.

    5:41 if you it the jump gate you get lost in deep space, between the solar systems. They said it when they first showed the jump gate, I think it was in a carrack

      @@GrimGatsby They also said there will be mechanics to recover your ship at a cost. This means a specialized ship or other mechanics to TOW or recover a ship back from the void.

      @@wraith511802003 yes, but when u fall out of jump hole things either your gonna be in a system or middle of nowhere, you can use the player in middle of nowhere as a way point for system to system travel if they do indeed fall out in a place that is not a system

      It's difficult to get excited about 4.0 with the flight and FPS changes and the really toxic community management stuff.
      I never imagined the game would get hamstrung as fast as it has, it's really is not resembling what I bought into it. Really depressing.

      Specifically, what do you think will slip? Or are you guessing? It CANNOT release without server meshing and Pyro was mostly complete 8 months ago. We had SM tests in EPTU. They said Life Support, Engineering and fire systems isn't going to be on every ship, and engineering is already playable in AC.
      That leaves the:
      * Additional Player Customization (seen at CitizenCon 7 months ago)
      * MFD rework (seen at CitizenCon),
      * Fire extinguisher gameplay (seen at CitizenCon),
      * Zeus (whitebox complete, nearing greybox complete a month ago)
      * The Quasi Grazer (again, seen at CitizenCon).
      The rest need to be changed to work with server meshing:
      * Transit System Refactor
      * The mission system refactor
      Most of this stuff was seen at CitizenCon working 7 months ago (at least partially), playable in AC, or only partially needs to be implemented, or is so needed it would delay a 4.0 release. So if anything, a delay is more likely IMO. But the foundational tech is pretty much done. Tested it and it works.
      I think there's going to be stuff added to it. Definitely more ships. They average 5 released ships per quarter. Q3 patches are generally released mid-October. We're nearly 5 months away from October. Even last week they added 4 items to 3.23.0's release view.

    Systems, meshing, and new features sound good and all... But after meshing, you know what's really going to hold the game back from reaching its potential? Proper Org support in game, to allow for resource competitions and org wars. CIG can put in their curated and dynamic events, but true progression and large scale emergent gameplay can only come from orgs. It feels forgotten about honestly.

      100%. It wont be a true MMO till we actually have some in-game systems for organizations. Hopefully once we have 100s of players per server, they will finally give us some org systems.

      Its not forgotten. They just have bigger fish to fry. Orgs are gonna be on a back burner for a bit. I think once they get basebuilding properly in along with Crafting/Basebuilding. They will probably implement Orgs along with Org-wide claims in sectors of space via spacestations or on planet. Where they are claimed by other orgs through large scale pvp. Thats if they can get Server Meshing stable and work at scale...

      ​@@lumarious so I don't want to be the cloud over the parade, or the Debby downer, but I feel that Orgs, proper Player orgs, won't be a thing until either they introduce larger ships, sub capitals and capital ships, Land claims/building (which won't be released until after the Pioneer is released), the possibility of claiming stations in unclaimed areas (Like Pyro), or large scale missions that require multiple areas with Multiple teams.
      Because at least right now, there really isn't a reason to need more than 10 people in a party, and raising that would be an easy fix for many of those. As much as I would love the feature as well, I think CIG wants to make a reason for the system, before they implement the system for that reason, and right now Orgs don't really have a viable reason to exist in the near future.

      @@Mikalent I agree with your sentiments. The game currently only has early to maybe mid-game variety of content to engage in. As big as it's getting, the content is still too small yet. And by content, I mean everything from Capital Ships and actual things to do with a consistent group of 20,40,60 or more people in an Org.

    Gotta be honest, for a star citizen content creator you have by far the best quality. For now only the segments need a bit of work to make it more clear about what the subjects is and what’s it about. But I do like the length it’s not to long and not too short. Keep up the good work!

    ...we've seen server meshing. Evocati has tested it. Recently. I do expect delays, but I do have the same expectation that ST has. To act as if it remains a distant goal is to call what has actually happened in Evocati fiction. I'm not prepared to do that.

    I like all the factions that are planned, but I feel like we need the rare Vanduul encounter, in space, in atmosphere, and even on planets/moons. I think all the factions that are not aligned with your character's rep should have the ability to spawn in and attack you in some way, but certain factions like the Vanduul should be hostile to everyone.
    Maybe make it something like the more remote you are the more chance of them spawning in.

    Oblivious me always believed server meshing was only a couple of years away, if anyone would have told me it's gonna take 6 years. Exploration, discovery, science and research would have been very nice for 4.0, maybe in a couple of years... So excited for the Zeus, finally I can use some of my CCUs for an upgrade.

    Another good, informative video from you Tomato. Your channel is one of the few SC channels I will listen to. You can be critical of RSI sometimes but you never take the "they are stealing our money" road.
    As far as the server meshing and the overall direction, I used to be one of the people that had huge doubts if they would be able to pull it off but over the last 12 months, I have come to appreciate, and recognize the herculean tasks that are involved in order to make a game like this function. This is not a single player, top down, action RPG. The tech involved has to evolve. I see so many folks crap all over the devs because "it's been 10 years!" but I think if they took a good look at the nuts and bolts, they might also be able to share in the appreciation of what they have accomplished so far.
    Kudos, keep up the good work.

    They better see to it that the 4.0 ServerMeshing patch doesn't become a clusterfck like 3.18 with PES used to be for months and months.
    Yeah sure, it's an Alpha and all that, I get it, but with how dependant CIG is on good publicity and themselfs making SM into such a huge dependancy for so much other tech still being held back, all eyes will be on them when 4.0 comes around, so again, they better make sure this works as flawlessly as possible, or else the erratic "on the spot" judgement of the backers "could" tear them to pieces.

    if server meshing fully get realised in SC it is going to open up a whole new genre of MMO's and games if the tech get published, I'm sure they will at least publish some papers on it for other devs to read. I am defo excited for 4.0 and to see how it all comes together

    The fact that we're actually to Pyro now, that it's most likely hitting live THIS year feels crazy. Hopefully with the server meshing implemented and that first bridge being drawn the production of further systems can speed up. I'd probably start buying into the scam allegations if I have to wait another 6 years for system #3.

      @@tallll70 Game freeze into crash it was. And everytime when out in space somehow...So not realy space that have alot of things that should be heavy on the pc hardware. Been a while since played much now. Since it felt worse than before the patch. Even 3.23.1 didnt feel that great as before 3.23. I not sure why.

      Lets hope the roadmap is wrong about the duration lol. And thats duration from like 2.5 years ago XD

      @@Syphirioth persistent hangars is meant to come in patch 3.23. So I think if they keep up to it, it will come in 1-3 months. As far as I know they are meant to be in PTU next week. We will then see the first videos on this and how many bugs they cause xD

    Are there enough Locations and Missions for 1000 people in 2 star systems with 20+ planets though. Maybe its best to somehow limit it at first to 250 or 500 people

    Missions, base building and crafting are not late game. Those are early to mid gameplay loops for most games. Late game would be more along the lines of story driven raids, high end crafting and commerce, and large scale pvp/politics.

      You could probably include deep space exploration as an end-game activity too. The universe can be a very dangerous place if you're ill equipped and ill prepared.
