- Here's a fix I did on a 2016 Chevy Sonic recently. There was an overheating problem, and discovered there was a crack in the water outlet coming off the head. Replaced the water outlet and it seems to be fixed. Just a nice smooth car repair.

Great job!
Your wrong that's not the thermostat on the left the thermostat is on the right right where you're working that electronic piece on top is the heat sensor.
They came from the factory made out of plastic $150 and they tighten them too tight and they cracked I had to replace mine as soon as I bought the car.
Everyone that owns a Sonic has a cracked thermostat cuz it's made out of plastic 125 to 150 for a new thermostat.
On a 1.4l turbo sonic like in video the thermost is there on the left where he pointed as I had to replace mine as ya need to remove the air intake tube to get to it 🎉
Why's that not look like dexcool coolent?
just had my water outlet fixed under warranty and 3 days later the reservoir cracked due to the increased pressure from the other problem being fixed... i just fixed that myself as it would have been like 4 days til the dealer could get me in and time is money!
There are aluminum replacements for this part, and the thermostat on Amazon for around $35 each.
Any suggestions about the best place to buy this part?
Those paint dots are from the factory. Maybe it means they checked the torque on those screws?
What type of coolant do you use? Because I think sold me the wrong type
What type of coolant do you use for this car cuz I think they sold me the wrong type
What type of coolant do you use? Because I think Day show me the wrong type
Mine was doin the same thing and I replaced that same part and it still losing coolant idk what else to think of that might cause it to lose coolant
Possibly the radiator, hose or water pump.
Man I just replaced this part on my 2013 1.4l Chevy Sonic turbo, was an easy fix and I was hopeful that it worked. After driving it for like 30 minutes, the heat stopped working and of course when I went to check, all the coolant was gone. Do you have any other suggestions as to where this leak may be occurring on the 1.4l engine?
I have a 1.8 and have the same issue with the sonic
the same thing just happened to me. took the car back to the garage, more repairs
I have the same issue and have had it for years I have replaced and now car is leaking again antifreeze
ive had to change the housing , tank hose and other components of coolent system in a chevy sonic. any ideas what is causing the damage?
Its plastic. Over time a lot of these components just get brittle and fail. My coolant outlet just collapsed and died today after having a mystery leak for ages. Got a nice aluminum replacement coming in a couple of days, shouldn't have this particular issue again.
Any updates is it still running good? I'm thinking of getting one tomorrow
Don’t do it sonics are one issue after the other one I have one and now I got a toyota
Most cars have marks on some parts even if you buy it brand new
hard to get at those strange looking star bolts
I noticed , that's wrong color coolent
Its only wrong if they didn't flush all the dexcool out first.
I've made that mistake before and it is pretty nasty.
These cars are lemons, escape while you can and get rid of it
I agree the parts don’t last that long
Chevy is bad about not adding temperature gages to their Sonic cars even their newer cars in 2022. That's why I don't buy them.
I have 127,000 miles on my 2012 sonic but I have to look under the hood every other day. I would not recommend to anyone unless they like a challenge
