I'm no gray man but trauma from robbery made me vigilant every time. Everything stated here that i've done. Thank you for sharing this, people needed to know that just because it's safe in 'this' area today, doesn't mean it's safe again tomorrow. God bless! To everyone who feels tired knowing this, yes it's mentally tiring but i assure you it'll decrease the chances of getting robbed.

Awhile back, on the same trail I walk my dog on every single night which is normally filled with college kids (from a very rich and prestigious university) some dude who I was passing, basically yelling rap music to himself didn't really notice me approaching him so I said "hi" and waved like a I do to everyone, and no joke he stopped dead in his tracks, but his hand under his shirt like he was grabbing gun, looked straight at me and said "man I don't like the way you're looking at me, eyeballing me and shit" like some ridiculous threat from a bad movie and tried staring me down while I walked past saying "oooookay man, just trying to be polite." While in my head I'm thinking "get beyond 10 yards, be prepared to move right he'll probably miss low left, unzip jacket, hands empty and be ready." Thankfully, he backed down. But then right after that 2 girls who I frequently see riding their bikes being super nice to everyone, passed me heading his direction. I was legit scared was going to go after them. Safe today, even safe 99% of the time, doesn't mean always safe. In fact, the most dangerous places on earth are still safe for a majority of the time, or no one would live there at all. Nobody lives in the mouth of an active volcano lol. People do, however, live in tornado ally. Always gotta be ready, and don't slack on training and lose your muscle memory.

Maybe most of the time, but you can't always assume that. If you intentionally look threatening, you could get into more trouble than if you had blended in. Some will take it as a challenge and wanna show off. Especially if you're, for example, out a Friday night and there are drunk people. That's how fist fights start.

I'm not a gray man by any means; at my height and size, it's almost impossible. That being said, situational awareness is something that has been extremely useful to me not only for my own safety and the safety of others, but also in my work in the medical field and as an EMT. It can just as easily allow you to see danger to someone else before it happens, or to notice an emergent situation which most people never notice in a million years. I have always felt that in a nutshell, situational awareness in both cases was best summed up in the exchange from the Sherlock Holmes story, "The Adventure of the Dancing Men." Holmes notices a bullet hole that no one else had seen. The Inspector says "By George! How did you ever see that?" Holmes responds, "Because I looked for it."
It's not paranoia - it's paying attention. Well presented, and well said, Luka and UF Pro.

p.s. I'm glad to see that the way I personally act is working out. I definitely fall into the category of soft target, by what's visible. But what they can't see, is over 10 years of hardcore martial arts training which in reality never ended I just stopped attending, a lifetime of shooting and tactical training, with constant and current practice to keep my confidence up, and the experience of spending most of my formative years going to hardcore shows and getting in crazy fights like every weekend. People literally make comments about me being "just a skinny guy" not realizing that until just a couple years ago, I was around 190 lbs (at 6'1") and very fit. I've been slacking I need to gain the muscle back, but word of advice, don't underestimate ANYONE. It's bit me in the ass several times. Back in the taekwondo days, there was a girl who was a 2nd degree black belt and state champion who would destroy me in sparring every single time. Because she was hot, nobody thought she was capable, but I assure you she is. My Mom? 2nd degree black belt, 5 time world & state champion in all sections (weapons, forms, and sparring) an instructor, and level 1 tournament judge. Me, only a 1st degree black belt and tournament judge, who went pretty far in Master's Club (weapons and MMA, we did a lot of Krav and BJJ.) And man, 90% of the people I trained with, are people you would NEVER suspect to be that good haha. The best of the best, who now owns a very successful TKD school, is someone we used to call Xander (a character from the TV show Drawn Together, look it up) to give him a hard time. He acted like a fairy, but could also take your head off with a hook kick. Side note- his wife is smoking hot, he fooled us all on every front lololol. You never know who you may be talking to.

I will still continue to tell them to have a good situational awareness because we can also be targeted and the principal themselves will need take the necessary action, especially when operating in a solo CPO.

Great advice, don't look clueless and don't flash the bling. Look like you know where you are, where you're going and act confident.
I've lost count of the number of people I've seen discussing which Rolex to take abroad with them.
Leave all that behind. If your watch will be in view, wear a Casio.
Plan ahead though, find out the areas to avoid. Have a good basic understanding of where you are, don't be looking at your phone or even worse a touristy book or map. There's been a few times where I've been abroad and someone has been paying me a little bit too much attention. Glance at them, let them know you're aware of them. I've been vibe checked many times in the NY Subway. Not been mugged yet. Touch wood.

uhhh yeah so just FYI, for the people who think the bad guys are learning from this, I can 100% promise you if they're a "bad guy" they already know how to follow you. It's not very hard, all this stuff can honestly be picked up by watching ANY spy movie. It's only regular people who don't spend their entire day thinking about this stuff who need to actually learn and practice it, the "bad guys" live it every single day just like soldiers live combat every single day and working musicians live music every single day. As a musician I can guarantee you that I have an unfair advantage over most of the people I know, in that I can spend all day every day on it. Gun stuff and survival stuff is just what I use to break it up and not get burnt out, and happens to be the "other thing" I was raised to do. Music and outdoorsmanship, the two main parts of my life. But saying this video is "training the bad guys" is like saying gun laws take weapons away from criminals who don't care about the law and specifically seek stolen & unregistered guns haha

You're bad at reading people so the people that want to harm you should smell the confidence of a warrior / fighter / martial art master. Be kind, act kind but look dangerous :)

Grew up in Chicago and we always have Predators. You have to have thought out what and how far you will go to protect yourself and others.
If you can’t be armed, carry pepper spray, a good knife and a cane.
Years ago I noticed how many old Folks in the inner-city carried a cane. I bought one (Tractor Supply, hardwood cane, added a 1” rubber cap on bottom) and trained with it. Amazing tool even if you do not have bad knees like me.
Head on a swivel, no cellphone in hands or earbuds in ears, don’t get distracted and never assume.
Where you are filming from looks so interesting but that graffiti tells me I do not want to be anywhere near there after Sunset!
The area tells me some of the people have no guilt with defacing someone else’s property. Not cool.

When I cale back from Syria my mom bought me your limited jungle cam aaaand it never showed up. That was 3 years ago and I still think about how sick that camo was, shame it never showed up to my house

Very good video. I live in city that has number of Universities and residences. I always think to myself when the academic year starts 'All that fresh meat'. It's like the Serengeti with all the herd animals milling around and the predators are just checking them out to spot the unwary.
