I Will Never Love Sonic Heroes

- We're here today to witness a tragedy. I've confirmed that no matter what I do, I will never be able to love Sonic Heroes. And it's all the game's fault, what the heck happened when they were making this game to have it turn out this way? What a mess. I Will Never Love Sonic Heroes

That's OK, I love Sonic Heroes enough for both of us.
Me, too. I grew up with this game, and I have fond memories of it.
That’s enough for me
It's a treasured gem
Same! Only Sonic game I’ve played and I had a lot of fun with it!
I LOVE SONIC HEROS
12:25 That's probably because it is slapped together. Iizuka basically made most of the levels by himself after a fellow level designer took an emergency leave. The poor health conditions certainly didn't help as he was crunching away until he got insomnia and lost 20lbs.
Yup, hence why it infuriates me when people give Iizuka shit for things out of his control. The guy basically gave his life for this franchise and you still have people saying "he lost his touch" or "he doesnt care about sonic"
@@jamrah8713 Iizuka was not the villain rushing games in 2003. He was just another person with a good reason to quit Sega. When Iizuka became boss of Sonic Team, THEN people considered him the villain. Doing the exact same thing earlier Sonic Team management did
Iizuka probably would of quit Sega if not for his promotion. He was no longer required to build the levels himself. He could just command others to make rushed games
Sonic games were development hell for anyone at Sega for the first 15 years. The Sonic 3D Blast guys had 6 months to make the game. Sonic R had 4 months to make the entire game. Sonic 06, Sonic Heroes... Sonic 2 somehow turned out right but cut half its planned levels. Sonic Adventure 1 is impressive considering Sega gave them only 10 months.
Sega doesnt treat employees right.
If any sonic game ever gets remade from the ground up, I would want it to be this one
More like remade from miles underground up. This game could be good, but they would need to take the level themes and general concept of multiple characters, and then make an entirely new game with new levels, better gameplay, and flesh out the story enough to make it fit better as an in-between to SA2 and STH.

Rouge: "Even if the world turned against you, I will always be by your side."
SEGA: Team dark aren't friends.
Rouge will be by anyone's side considering she's a whore.
I want to make an Indie Game that utilizes the concept of using three Characters at once into a Collect-a-thon format
I'm interested
@@Garrulous64 Well, It's moreso combining Banjo-Kazooie and Sonic Heroes, With the 'Banjo' being unable to do much by themselves, and their Kazooie - er, KAZOOIES - being the Three Characters you can switch between on the fly.
Each of these Partners do something differently
- One is good at moving fast in both the Land, Sea, and Air, but can't destroy certain objects
- One is good with Shooting, and can enter into a FPS mode in certain areas, but is generally the slowest out of the three
- One is good with dealing with Enemies and Breaking Objects, but lacks Long-Range options
@@nicks.2457 As a collect-a-thon lover this sounds like a really fun idea
I'm late but that sounds awesome
Like many cases. I do think that Sonic Heroes could’ve been improved on for a sequel.
Also if such a sequel were to reintroduce Mighty and Ray into the modern timeline, I could see Sticks work as a third member.
Or mabye Honey the cat from Sonic The Fighters to go with the classic theme.
Mighty, Ray and Sticks would be an INSANE team. Don't give me hope
flying hammer boomerang
I still enjoy this game even with its flaws, especially with this being the game that gave us Neo Metal Sonic who is still my personal favorite video game villain, I just wish they would’ve done more with him in the game
I’ve never played sonic heroes, I mostly appreciated it for the story, the OST, and team dynamics. Speaking of, one of the things I would want for a heroes sequel would be improved teams with our bigger cast of characters, like imagine adding in Sliver, Blaze, Marine (If sega would let her out of the basement) Eggman, Sage, and Metal, and even the IDW cast with Tangle, Whisper, and Jewel.
so it’d be
- Team Sonic/Light
- Team Dark
- Team Rose
- Team Chaotix
- Team Sol
- Team Eggman
- Team Spiral
or the unused mighty, ray, and metal team. I feel like mighty and ray would think metal is the real sonic
@@elicenyne we need fang and his gang as well they were born for sonic heroes
17:52 well, I think there is an in universal explanation for that, they just didn’t do a great job of explaining it. Pretty much metal sonic’s plan was to kidnap chocola and froggy, since as a chow, and the frog once possessed by the tail of chao he could use that to get the equivalent data of Chaos (hence the monstrous dragon form, and unfortunately for neo, how super sonic was so effective at the feeding it since perfect chaos has a weakness to the positive powers of the chaos emeralds.)
He also planned on copying the bio data of sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, but when shadow showed up, Neo copied his and Team Dark’s abilities to further his powers. As we can see, neo metal sonic has a flamethrower in his final boss, courtesy of Omega, and chaos control, courtesy of Shadow.
Interestingly, I don’t think he copied the powers of the Chaotix, since their story is the only one that doesn’t have metal sonic, say “old biodata, successfully copied”.
Imma be real with you chief, Sonic Heroes isn’t my favorite Sonic game, but I rather play that over Super Mario 64 any day of the week. I’m sorry but I can’t convince myself to like that game. But I still respect your opinion.
So you are saying that that you go outside and touch grass instead of worshipping an overrated game like Mario 64?
@@christianm7250 an actual grass toucher plays both
SM64 is fine imo design wise, but the controls are utter garbage.
brave of you to say something that'll make the snowflakes mad
@@pfmagicX an actual grass toucher doesn’t play videos games
Here’s some thing I think they could’ve done to help mitigate the issue of each team having the same levels:
Maybe one of the teams runs through the level in reverse? Play saver example maybe one of the teams starts where the goal ring would normally be you have to work your way back to the front of the level where the gold ring can be found. Also, maybe the Bossfight orders should be swapped around between campaigns. I mean, I feel like the egg emperor should always be the final boss of the campaign, but maybe the rest of them could be swapped around a bit to make each play through feel a little unique.
For example, let’s say Team Dark destroys the Egg-Hawk, so as a makeshift repair, neo, metal sonic attaches the Egg Albatross to get the hawk airborne again, but team sonic comes along and destroys it. Since neo metal sonic needs more time to repair the bosses, the rest of the teams simply get badnik swarms for their first boss.
In addition, maybe they could swap the time of day the zone takes place in? Maybe team dark’s version of seaside Hill takes place at dawn, Team sonic takes place in the morning, Team Rose takes place at noon, and team Chaotix takes place in the evening? (or whatever order you think these teams canonically ran through the level.)
These aren’t major changes, but I feel like it would be enough to differentiate the zones that little bit more
Sounds great to me. Just keep in mind the time(s) when the teams meet if you want to implement the time of day.
It wouldnt make sense for any of them to be doing the stages backwards, they're supposed to be chasing "Eggman". I guess maybe Team Chaotix could have though since their structure is different already.
I like this idea a lot.
They are chasing Eggman but they don't know where he is. Having a team go backwards would also make more sense if they wanted the teams to run into eachother for Team Battles. They could meet in the middle
It wouldn't be a problem in the first place if the levels were actually good.
Every _good_ Sonic game has levels that are a joy to replay because they encourage and reward player knowledge and skill with a stylish and exhilarating sense of unbroken speed. Nobody complains about Sonic Mania having five identical playthroughs, and that's because the game's levels are fun to replay.
Good Sonic levels get better as you get better, they're not just lousy with arbitrary obstacles that do nothing to augment the characters' progression and only exist to justify the nonsensical formation-switching gameplay.
This is legit the only video game that actually costs me physical pain. I legit can only play 1 level per day when and if I decide to play this
I would honestly disagree that Sonic doesn’t care about Shadow coming back to life. I think the simple “Talk about stubborn and full of surprises” just shows Sonic’s character. He takes things in stride very easily and I don’t think he needs to have some blubbery heartfelt reunion to show that he cares. Immediately teasing his rival without hesitation is probably the nicest thing he could do. He’s immediately going back to normalcy with Shadow and treating him like and old friend without patronizing him, something he knows the guy would hate.
The lines during their fight as well when you play as Team Dark kind of show that team Sonic cares as well, but I don't remember the exact lines. Tails says something like "Don't you remember us Shadow?" and Sonic says something like "That's not the way you greet someone you haven't seen in a while".
What's funny to me about that line is that it in the Space Colony ARK Sonic and Shadow confrontation cutscene from Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic tells Shadow "Sorry, but I guess my stubbornness is my saving grace" in the Japanese version when Shadow had mentioned that he thought Sonic had died. In the Japanese version of the Team Sonic and Team Dark confrontation in Sonic Heroes, Sonic even says "Seems like stubbornness is a saving grace for the both of us", which makes the callback hit even harder for me.
It's surprising I don't hear more people talk about movement feel.
I will absolutely lose my time in a game just because the movement feels amazing.
just a little fact about this title: only two persons were working on the level designs, that´s the reason why most of the levels sucks so badly.
5:44 quick tip!: team rocket accel works when you hold the action button as speed character, have every one lined up(if i remember correctly the leader says "ready" and then), press the action button so it's like a double tap
Rush Adventure is my favorite Sonic Sountrack. Machine labyrinth, Coral Cave, Haunted Ship, Deep Core, and the main theme are among my favorite songs in the entire series.
I respect your opinion. Everyone has their tastes and that's fine. I like sonic heroes because of the colorful graphics and variated environments, good soundtrack, fun multiplayer, the huge roster of playable characters (for a mainline game) and the unique gameplay style (the team mechanic). I Also think that the cheesy voice acting and the shiny character models have their charm as well. I do agree that the game has some issues like the special stages being bad or the slippery controls but they didn't bring down my enjoyment of the game by much.
Ok about Metal Sonic becoming a dragon - I believe his appearance is like that because part of the data he copied was that of Chaos (the reason why he kidnapped a chao), so he's really less dragon and more Perfect Chaos
Sonic Heroes is a good game... then you have to play 3 more stories.
‘Ghosts and Skeletons are real in this world’ Yes, compared to our world where Skeletons are just a myth and no creature has bones.
I love this game, but I totally feel what you feel. The controls and especially that pinball level and the Chaotix levels just... kill me
Egg Fleet theme is the best, I swear being in the sky knowing the team is almost ready to beat Eggman is already cool enough, but that blasting rock music really hypes you up.
I actually really like the "slippery" controls as everyone calls them. It's really not as bad as everyone makes them out to be imo. It really lets you feel like you're going really fast, and I'll take a greater feeling of movement and some "slipperyness" over limiting, stiff and rigid controls any day. You absolutely have a point with Casino Park though. It could've been such a great level if it had you running across Craps Tables and through carpeted Slot Machine rooms, but instead they made it ALL just pinball, and it is honestly pretty awful. That's the only level I actively do not enjoy. Rail Canyon on the other hand is one of my favorites. The thrill of rushing through the railroad system through the Grand Canyon to get ot the end before sunset is so cool, and the rail grinding itself is pretty fun. Just don't ever do the "Rail Switching" thing by flicking the stick, it's not reliable. Instead just manually jump onto another rail, it works so much better and is more fun since you can actually steer and choose which rail you want to land on. My favorite parts are the sections with many rails going in all sorts of directions at different elevations, allowing you to skip and take other rails besides the main three if you're skilled enough to make the jumps. And yeah Egg Fleet is GOAT'd.
I agree with this
Same, the “Slippery” controls just feel Buttery Smooth to me, I love how well every movement flows into each other.
Not everyone is you
I agree with this, if they want slippery controls look at shadow the hedgehog even if I like that game too
I agree, tho I think they tried to take advantage of the sonic is ball trope in the casino, they definitely over did it, Also I would definitely recommend holding the direction and then pressing jump to switch rails, instead of flicking or jumping
Still waiting for the Sonic advance 3 review
Premydaremy balling his eyes out rn💀
honestly I think it's nigh impossible for me to name a favourite sonic ost, I just flick between moods of which ones I like at any given time, atm? I'd say a mix of the crush 40 songs, sonic rush and team sonic racing
What is it with Sonic frogs and shenanigans?! First it's Froggy running from Big, now it's the Frog Forest ones controlling the weather like gods!
sonic heroes soundtrack and stage design carries it very much so, despite the control jank i still enjoy the game
stages being designed like classic stages used to is my favorite part of the game and i wish they'd do it more, even in adventure im not the biggest fan of the realistic direction the stages take and its only got more prominent over time
honestly i dont care about it either, it has very bad controls and momentum. the story is horrific because these are supposedly all happening at the same time which should be impossible, on team winning in one story and another in the other story. also who wrote tails’ lines? i mean he says “look at all of those eggmans robots”… why does that hurt me so much and sonic looks like plastic
My favorite Sonic OST has to go to 2006. Perfect mix of rock and instrumental. Then SA2, then SADX, then Unleashed. It’s all super close though.
I like Sonic Rush, less rock and more funk
RadicalSoda would like a word with you. That man adores Sonic Heroes.
What about premydaremy? :/
My DMs are open ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Ls mark 😅
Sonic games tend to suffer from deadlines and rushed development cycles because Sega loves them holiday sales. Funny enough, Sonic Heroes missed that timeframe and was still rushed.
Even Sonic Frontiers, with its long development cycle (especially for a Sonic title and getting delayed an extra year) was still rushed out the door to maximize holiday sales.
I like Sonic Heroes even with its many flaws, but it definitely is a top 3 Sonic title that suffered the most from said rushed cycle.
14:41-14:57 "...the last two Eggman bosses have been based on birds, why don't we have the Egg Vulture here?" Funny, in the Archie Comics (Post-SGW), there was an Egg Boss that happened to be a vulture. Her name is Nephthys.
6:15 hot take knuckles chaotix OST is absolute GOLD
I do like the game, yet for the most part I can agree. The slipery controls can be often a burden, and damn do I hate the special stages and how they are required to get the true ending. Still there are also a lot of things I like about the game, that make it difficult for me to completly hate it.
Though I do a sonic marathon once a year and when I have the game completed already, I like to play it with the teams switching up. Like the first level with team sonic, the second with team dark and so on.
Also would not mind seeing this kind of gameplay making a return someday, maybe even in a none sonic game.
Yeah, I love Sonic Heroes but I can't blame anybody for not liking it especially for the controls since while you can "Learn" them, there are other (and arguably better) platformers out there that anybody can just pick up and immediately be able to get through levels with at least the bare basics and don't feel like you need to weave around the issues to get enjoyment out of them.
After playing this game when it came out as a a child, again as a pre-teen and once more as an adult (with many times in between). I personally feel that Sonic Heroes' greatest caveat is that there is no 'proper' way to play the game.
Hear me out. Obviously Team Sonic is the way to go for the game's given demographic, but then you have to take into account that Team Dark's levels technically feel like the true way to experience the game considering its already minuscule difficulty.
Team Chaotix shows how levels that are seen as "end-posts" require a bit more care in navigating, lest you lose sight of what could be in front of you, (AND INSPIRED SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG'S CHECKPOINT SYSTEM). While Team Rose acts as the game's "baby" mode
I really can't explain it in short detail. But when addressing this game in particular; I've noticed odd difficulty curves placed through the game regardless of each team's play-style because the overall game is honestly kind of a mess.
The Emeralds....Lets not get into that. Pick Team Rose and 2nd Stage everything... you're welcome
Again, 16+ play-throughs here so I know what I'm talking about, and this game will ALWAYS be fun to playthrough (as this point its pure nostalgia) but I'd be remiss if I didn't point out the biggest flaw about the game and that's that there is no "definitive" story mode gameplay experience.
Okay maybe I'm exaggerating, start with Sonic, then do Dark, Then Chaotix and skip rose unless you're going for the 100%
This is a little tricky but basically:Frontiers has my favorite songs in the franchise, but overall I think Runners is my favorite soundtrack
There's a way to cheese the egg emperor where if you attack once with knuckles, then you won't get hit by his "CHARGE" move. I hope this saves someone at least one headache.
I just beat this game recently and DAMN IT was a hot minute and was so fun
Cool
Why did that skeleton scare the hell outta me😭
The only problems with the controls that I have is the fact that it took me years to realize that the only reason I get sent flying in a certain direction with Omega and knuckles is because you're holding that direction, but they only go that far if you're holding the direction while attacking if you just attack then you won't be sent far and you have far better control of your attack which made the power formation way more enjoyable for me, not to mention that to my knowledge there isn't a way to know that you can do a rapid punch attack with knuckles, like I only found that out via a review,
I do agree it's a tad slippery but I still really enjoy the game
6:15 The Sonic Advance 2 OST.
I've never really understood why people always describe games like these as "running on ice". This game's ground movement does not resemble ice physics even slightly. Ice physics cause the player to slide when stopping, that doesn't happen here, you stop instantly much like in Shadow the Hedgehog (another game described as "running on ice"). Also if this game actually ran on ice physics the turning would be much slower than normal because that's just how inertia works, that also doesn't happen here. The REAL problem with this game's ground movement, is that the acceleration is too high for its own good, making it feel uncomfortable with the small platforms/narrow pathways you're given.
Fun fact: the reason why this game and shadow the hedgehog isn't on steam is because the engine that used in this game renderware is discounted during the 7th generation by EA after they bought criterion games the devs behind burnout
The only things I don’t like about this game are how messed up the special stages are, lost jungle, team Chaotix robot storm, and the casino duo on a bad day. I’ve played it enough to intuitively understand how MOST of it works and it’s a blast when you go through any of these stages fast, what is not so nice is when you get more than halfway through the later stages only to die once, murdering your rank
Sonic Heroes is a game where you either embrace the jank, or fall into the endless abyss trying to fight it.
I wish I liked Heroes tbh. I love the art direction with having classic Sonic zones being in a 3D environment, the idea of a team based gameplay and even in execution of that team gameplay I do feel was done pretty well, but I’d say just the overall movement with the characters and the repetition of playing the same levels 4 times is what I still don’t like. (And that you can’t switch characters while mid-air) I still struggle figuring out what exactly I don’t like about this game that has made me put it down more times than I can count though as some moments I really like the game and feel like I’m having a wonderful time but other times I really don’t. I feel the repetition issue with playing the same levels 4 times is if they did what they did for SA2 where they use the same assets but make different levels out of them.
6:15 favorite Sonic soundtrack, probably Unleashed with the areas having music that uses instruments from those regions that at least to me, really immerse me into these worlds, with the orchestral pieces like perfect dark Gaia or the day boss theme for example having a cinematic feel to them.
Btw the team battles being persistent and not dying to my knowledge is a pc exclusive issue to where the teams take a lot of effort to knock off as oppose to Gamecube, ps2 and Xbox
Don't worry Garrlouse64 I agree with your points. I do like this game, and I like playing as multiple characters; and I was never the fan of mech levels
in adventure 2. I think Sega should make multiple playable characters, but just one campaign. I don't honestly care what each character has to do by themselves
to then be forced to play a whole different character I don't feel playing as. Heroes is definitely slippery which has cost me a lot of deaths, and the grinding is just wonky. I also, dont care about fishing, treasure hunting, mechs and anything that isn't running to the end. I do like them for small mini games mini games though, like the versus modes of sa2 or Big's fishing in frontiers
My vision for multiple playable characters is to have the past 18 heroes, you start with the basic Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, or Amy for diversity( these four always hangout anyways ). You then meet Shadow, Rouge, Omega, Big, Cream, Vector, Charmy, Espio, Blaze, Silver for example and they decide to help because none of them should want a destroyed world, so they eventually help you out; which in turn unlocks them like Sonic Advance 3.
Anyways, I enjoy heroes; but I see it's problems.
I actuly (aside from tails' VA and amy) really enjoyed the story of this game, and I will always love what it did with metal sonic. I also think the team concept for gameplay is awesome. The porblem, as you pointed out, is the controls, spesificly the physicis... THEY FUCKING SUCK ASS. like omg this game is hell to play in that sense. Like all this game needs to be okay is some sort of mod to make the physics reasonable.
most positive youtube video on sonic btw
Don't worry dude I 100% agree with you, I think the game would be way better if someone modded it so you could can play it with one character.
13:15 "And nobody really cares 'cause this game doesn't really have a story." Is that why the characters are almost always spouting catch phrases?
Is there a secret reward for being in the secret club?
Yeah I can't stand the controls and a lot of the level design in this game, as well as the fact you have to play 4 playthroughs to reach the final boss. I also think that even if both of those things were fixed the levels just go on for FAR too long, and thanks to the lives system it just becomes frustrating to me. That said, it's one of many things I wish I liked, and I'm jealous of people that like it lol
Oh, and as for soundtrack, off the top of my head I'd say Sonic Adventure? I like the mix of different music in that game that felt like an evolution of the Mega Drive games and each level has a completely different feeling. I am a big fan of each games music though
I want to love this game. i really do. but I can't stand the controls and physics
I started playing it over again and now I remember why it frustrated me so much ike holy crap I died so many times just cause of bad level design and abilities not working like they should
I never played heroes yet but i technicly did fight egg emperor before because i fought him in gens on the 3ds & i really enjoyed that
4:43 Shadow the hedgehog dabbing.
Hated this game since 2003. Man, those HD models look good though. Never thought I'd say I thought the Hero's model looked good.
I play sonic heroes on pc with like 16 mods loaded to improve it and it’s a 9/10 game for me with that on.
Interesting video, you’ve got pretty good points tbh lol
NGL I Really Hope This Game Will Get A Modern Port For Current Consoles And Steam In The Future (Along With Unleashed Getting A Steam Port) Since This Is Defiantly The Hardest Mainline Game To Play Without Emulation
hey so this isnt relevant for the video but does anyone know where i can find that Sonic Heroes remix near the beginning of the video?
EDIT: nvm found it, its the Sonic Runners remix if anyone else is curious
The story is fine, but there should have been more of a connection between some of the areas and how the team gets there (besides the air fleet stage in which you do see it at some point and your team tries to get there). The egg emperor is pretty cheap, but you can jump out of your hurt state, even if you used your jump to try and save yourself, but again it should not be at that point in the first place. A lot of the areas do feel bland at times without some kind of story element, but I think the design of a lot of the levels are great. The controls and physics just kind of don't make it seem so. Overall, it was my first Sonic game and I am biased, but from a critic's standpoint, it could have been worse. There are so many unique moments and cool gimmicks that give the game a fresh feel, though some things lead to it being boring, such as a lot of the boss fights
I want to love Sonic Heroes, but it clearly doesn't love me. Doesn't help I have the ps2 port which is considered the worst version.
Kinda off topic question: Is this footage from Dolphin cos I don’t think I’ve seen widescreen footage of Heroes before
Oh and picking my number 1 favourite soundtrack is getting harder with every passing year so my top picks are (in no particular order): Adventure 1 & 2, Unleashed, Black Knight, Frontiers and 06
This is the PC version.
@@Garrulous64 the original pc release from 04? Oh okay. I used to have that version as a kid and it was always in 4:3 from what I remember. Interesting
I am a Sonic Heroes enjoyer
Btw, are you done making Sonic rewritten vids?
My favorite game and sonic soundtrack is Black Knight, and I will stand by this forever.
Sonic Heroes in the style of the Advance games would be sick.
Yeah, my biggest problem is that the game is just a giant slog.
Also, why DO the teams go through the same levels in the same order? I get that it's how the classic games worked, but it makes no sense for Sonic's cutscene to start in a desert, Team Dark's to start in an Eggman facility, and Team Rose to start on a beach, and yet they all start on the same beach level anyway. If each team is meant to represent a different difficulty, why not have the "easy" team start on the beach and the "hard" team start at, like, Rail Canyon or something? Have them all finish with Egg Fleet/Final Fortress, sure, because that's where they all meet up, but this will never not bug me.
And yeah, the controls are super slippery, but I think part of the issue is that a lot of people try to play the majority of the game in Speed formation. I always switch to Power when I need a little more traction or precision, and Flying when I need to do platforming. Like, that bit of footage where you're struggling to grab a switch with Shadow because he keeps sliding past it? Switch to Omega and you'll have an easier time. I get wanting to go fast in a Sonic game, but Speed formation should be used almost exclusively on straightaways or automated sections. The controls definitely aren't great, but knowing which formation to use helps.
I will never not love Sonic Heroes. Sorry G.
PS: What if you did Another Rewritten thing with Heroes? Even if you can't think of Anything for the Stages, I'd love to Hear you Talk about how you'd Change each Route in their Stages, Encounters, and the like!
Even tho Sonic Hereos only flaw are Slippery Controls (Sometimes) and Team Chaotix, I still love Sonic Hereos its actually in my Top 5 best Sonic Games OAT
Wait so…it’s basically mixed neutral to you if that’s the best way to describe this review?
I agree with most of your points. Honestly I think a lot of people have your same gripes.
I think this game is just a guilty pleasure for the Fandom. That and the concept is dope as fuck lol.
I still love this game but great video!
*There is a whole bunch of PC version bugs that hurt this game and more of a reason as to why we need the GameCube version on PC:*
Knocked over frame showing a frame from being airborne instead of lying on the ground for everyone except Big. 7:36
Big's texture is missing his stripes and belt buckle spheremap. (without mods)
Espio's shuriken's after effect wind slicing texture is missing. (without mods)
The speed for loops, corkscrews and special stages by default is special stage boost speed which is dangerous for corkscrews. 8:33
Shadows are missing the double up outer shadow render like the GameCube version which looks wrong for characters like Vector.
Speed characters can't get knocked down which makes A Ranking team VS bosses a nightmare. 7:57 , 9:14 is a perfect example of this bug...
The CGI cutscenes are lower quality than the Xbox version.
The lens flare in stages like Seaside Hill is positioned wrong, shrunken to the top left of the screen.
Some of Amy and Cream's voice clips are missing.
Cream's eyeliner is broken in game. (without mods)
Everyone's eye textures are pixilated.
Omega's chest compartment is missing.
Rouge says the wrong voice clip at the start of Grand Metropolis.
Espio's "I'll handle it" voice clip show Sonic's "Leave this to me" subtitles.
Even then, the console versions are still unpolished enough on their own and PAL-versions are actually broken in a unique way.(60FPS-mode runs 20% faster because they programmed the internal solution for 50FPS mode incorrectly.)
I have to agree, the controls of this game are very akward for me. I've tried different versions of the game, but it never feels right for me. I have the same issue with Tomb Raider Underworld. As much as I want to enjoy the game, the way the character controls are not it.
This is honestly the reason why I keep advocating for SEGA to port their shit. Sonic's reputation is not exactly soaring rn, but maybe if older games like Heroes, Shadow, hell even 06, were remastered or remade, 3D Sonic would be looked back on more fondly.
None of these games are irredeemable. There are people who can look past the flaws and enjoy these games for what they are. That's awesome. But not everyone can be like them.
Sonic 2 for the Genesis has my favorite soundtrack.
Sonic colours soundtrack hit different
I found fun in this game once I played in 2x speed and with max meter and level cheats to get through the boring parts 😂
man my favorite OST has gone rampant for years n years, but right now I think either Unleashed or SA2 have the best ost. SA2 is my favorite game in the series, but Unleashed's sound is just..... 😩😩😩😩 Shamar (Night)...😩😩😩😩
13;32: Actually if you get hit during this fight, Sonic and Tails say if Shadow remembres them, so no they dont forget about him, sonic and Tails try to talk with shadow.
This video is so validating
Favorite soundtrack probably frontiers
so real for this
Sonic Heroes and I have the weirdest relationship. I hate the controls, special stages are god awful, Team Dark and Team Chaotix levels can take too darn long. Casino Park, Bingo Highway and Lost Jungle are some of the worst designed levels I've ever experienced in a Sonic game. The hit detection is completely out of whack leading to clipping through springs, dash pads, etc.
Yet despite all those gripes, I absolutely adore this game. The OST, the story, the gameplay, all of it. As flawed as it is, it has a certain charm that just speaks to me. I will always say: "Sonic Heroes is not a good game, but dang it, I love it a lot"
Honestly, I found this game to be unplayable. Like, I've actually beaten Sonic 06 twice, but this one? Nah. The furthest I got was the Bingo stages and gave up due to the combination of making it through those nightmares with the special stage key and the repeatedly failing said janky special stage for reasons I still don't really understand.
Beyond that, I felt the voice direction was awful, with Tails' voice actually being unbearable 99% of the time. Which is funny to say, because I actually very much like Tails' SA1 kid voice, awkward deliveries and all.
I was in the camp of people that felt that Shadow should not have come back, and I've yet to see a reason to justify his return, to this day. I don't mind him popping up in other Sonic media, that's perfectly fine, but mainline Sonic games have completely wasted him.
While I like the music, it didn't hit as hard as previous or even later games in the franchise. Not bad, but kind of basic.
While I don't mind a kiddy plot in a Sonic game, I felt the story here was a complete after thought. Attempting to follow the maturity of the last two games with this cartoon fest was a mistake and it would have been better off distancing itself. On the other hand, the two story book games, sans their controls, are great examples of how to do a plot for younger audiences without making everything feel like a sugar cereal fueled Saturday morning garbage cartoon romp.
Even now, I could play Sonic 06 again, but I won't touch Heroes.
6:16 CD, no question, CD
I like Heroes.
But then again, I'm the Lost World guy, too.
Are you playing the PlayStation 2 and XBOX version or the Nintendo GameCube version, because it looks like XBOX commands for switching instead of GameCube buttons.
Footage is from the PC version for higher quality.
Heroes blows, and the ice-sliding-tier controls carried over to Shadow as well. It's the only Sonic game I didn't buy when it released; combat also being so dumpy and clunky hurt it too. I actually managed to struggle through 06 at least, which says a lot on just how poor Heroes is.
Premy gonna have beef
sonic heroes are one of the sonic games ive never played
Sonic R has my favorite soundtrack
Honestly, I felt like the controls and physics are easily the worst detractors to this game.
Fun fact: This game holds the world record for the most amount of playable characters in a platformer.
On the top of my head, That goes to Kirby. Not to mention each character wasn’t tethered to another(Kirby star Allies ).
Heck there might be another platformer that even beats Kirby star Allies
6:18 My favorite soundtrack would either be sonic lost world or sonic adventure
for favourite soundtrack, id have to give to ShTH. but im also a big fan of metals fight theme from sonic the fighters. and i think that Sonic R has some good tunes for racing games
