As much as this is a horror movie, I think it's a great love story too. Arnie grew to love Christine and she Arnie. Once he put the work into restoring her, there was no turning back.
Gotta love Darnell, true tough as nails, hard working American. He didn’t take shit from anyone. He was tough on Arnie at first because he saw him as another snot nosed kid. But he realized that he wasn’t and saw the good in him (at the time) and offered him a job and he’s the kind of person that doesn’t do that for just anyone. He stuck up for Arnie when he thought Christine had been stolen and it ended up costing him his life. One of the best characters in the movie.
I would have jumped on Darnell's offer, and said "Thank you, sir!" and started cleaning crappers. Does this kid have any idea of the price of vintage iron?
Darnell is one of the funniest characters in film. He's absolutely obsessed with all things scatological. In under four minutes, he mentions shit at least a half-dozen times; a turd; an ass hole; the crapper (and the gold key to it); and even toilet paper.
Darnell is alright. Rough bloke, but I bet the pay cheque is always on time and correct. In my teenage years, I worked for someone like him. He's the good sort. I long for that world. Too many glossy HR types, all smiley, but would take advantage of you in a heartbeat. We need more Darnell's in the world.
Darnell is a grouch but he has a big heart. He's just not from a generation that worries about hurting your feelings. He tells the truth every time and he doesn't sugarcoat it.
I was always impressed how Christine actually had Arnie earn her through hard work. Clearly she could have repaired herself anytime.. as she did more than once later on but al this point, she really wants to see how much Arnie cares. And he does. In the book it's even better displayed: because there are some parte that Arnie repairs and some other parts that repaired themselves.. Christine sort of rewards him a little. That was nice
Robert Prosky steals this move. Darnell is so profane and vulgar, it's hard to not like him. Every line he says is just pure gold.

Robert Prosky is to this movie what Lee Ermey is to Full metal jacket

"You know, when I said you could scrounge through that shitpile out back, I didn't mean you could build your whole fuckin car with my stuff" 😂😂😂
"You can't polish a turd" 😂😂😂 darnell might be the funniest character in the movie.
Darnell's garage would have made a great sitcom.
"Don't think about it too long I'll throw you out on yer fucken ass" Gets me everytime 🤣

"You can't polish a turd." Poor Darnell, that remark will cost your life. Christine didn't like it.

The way he said "he's done all this shit in 3 weeks" lol
