Wow you were not joking, there are a ton of pearls of wisdom in this single short video, I'll have to watch it each day before I start my projects. Thanks a ton for your clearly articulated no nonsense just the gems style tips.
I'm starting to think this guy knows what he's talking about
Whoo, didn't expected you to find here, it's nice to see you just. Just wanna let you know, we are with your journey to UA-cam, keep making more contents ❤
;D
Alright, I did a lot of stuff in Unreal but you gave me at least 3-4 new shortcuts, and this is incredible. That`s how you advertise! :D
I've been wanting one of these videos for months now! All the ones I could find were old and outdated and fell apart part way through doing them. It was very frustrating! This helps a lot. Thank you.
this is sick. THank you
I would call this video really a survival kit to work in unreal VP environment. I was trying to make a document for unreal hot keys but this is really the best I came so far. All in one for the sequencer 😉👍🏻 Thank you Josh for this amazing video 🎊 🎉 Maybe a Valentines Day special video for Unreal Lovers ❤😂
Great tips! Especially about the preview render. Just tried it and it works with a level sequence as well! Just hit play and it follows all shots in the sequence. That saves me the time of rendering out product and not seeing the final version until its loaded into the editor. Thanks for this
Awesome :D it's a game changer!
Cool one!
Hey Josh, I've been working with Unreal for quite a while now, especially in the VP area, but this video is truly a huge source of new information for me. Just the last point, how you dragged the Level Sequence into the level, totally surprised me. Thank you very much for the video! And the work you put into all of this!
By the way ^^ I'm really looking forward to Avatar and curious about what you guys have conjured up there. ^^
Thank you!
Absolutely amazing tips
Thanks Navi, glad it helped :D
What a fantastic tutorial; so many time-saving tips. I'm only half way through watching and already this is significantly impactful for me. THANK YOU!
Thanks Jason :D Glad it helped!
@@JoshToonencan you do destruction in sequencer I remember only in game mode. I wanted to do some animation with Action but couldn’t get things to break or damage in sequencer.
UA-cam Recommended your video and I'm so Thankful, Really great stuff man,
BTW,
I was wondering do you need any editor for your videos?
WOW, how can someone put such an amazing video
liked the video already, cause in know in will be watching it again❤❤
It's real amazing to see your video. The demo you are using to make this video was amazing. I always wonder you environments are simple but they fit your shots too much.
Is there any possibility to hope for a video on some ideas on environment designing.
Yup! Check out How to Create Cinematic Environments in Unreal 5 on my channel :)
We also build 4 environments from scratch in Unreal Fundamentals if you're looking for a step-by-step approach and want to learn Unreal Filmmaking along the way! unrealforvfx.com/fundamentals
Great video thank you! One thing I find a little confusing, do you have to add ALL assets to sequencer please? Or just actors etc you know you will move around/animate etc?
If I have lots of buildings etc I don't need to drag all these into my sequence right?
Hey, the unreal has a bug when you detach an actor that is attached to an actor that already is attached to another.
For example in your case the stage actor is the first actor without any attachment. Then we have the samurais. If i try to make the samurai (first attached) take an apple (second attached) from the ground and then leaving it with the attachment/dettachment system, the object simply teleports (like it doenst save his position anymore).
Do you know how to solve this bug? (i already changed the "preserve current" in the attach options).
PLEASE make the Dune masterclass public again, I had it open and was about to start when it went private If not please let me know how I can access it 🙏
New to Unreal, your videos are of great help, thanks! One question about the bullet time : is there a way that the time dilation does not affect the camera in order to get that Matrix effect? Cheers!
I guess I could put keyframes on the camera and accelerate the movement; but if there is anything simpler...
Hey Josh. Great video :) Im new to Unreal and I was wondering how the workflow is if you want more than one level/background. Do you go over that in your course? Can you work with multiple levels/backgrounds in one Unreal project? Or do I need to create one project for one environment?
Hey Nicolas! Yes, we cover this in-depth in Unreal Fundamentals! For War of Being everything existed in one project file and using Levels you can sepearate out your maps, characters, lighting, and FX for each environment. (I actually cut it out of this video since it took away from the flow) cheers!
I know time dilation is great for the WHOLE sequence! But if I have some mo cap where 2 guys are fighting and I want to slightly retime (slow down or speed up) individual animations, is this possible please in UE5? I know I can change play rate in properties, but you cannot keyframe this! Any way to do this please?
Thaaanks a lot bro! Where did ou learn all this stuff? Only reading the documentation?
There is a way better to organize the actors in the sequencer? Even with folders, some times i struggle to animate several actors in only one sequencer.
Hey Rodolf! Documentation but mostly trial and error and trial and error and.......
Look into Subsequence Tracks if you're looking to separate actors into their own sequences (you can nest any sequence inside another sequence with these)
Hi. Very usefull tutorial. Can you say something about Rokoko Motion Capture gear. How accurate is it and is there a need to clean animation manually a lot? Have you got any different experience with this kind Motion Capture devices?
Check out "How to Make a Samurai Film in UE5" on my channel! There's clean up involved, but if you're not using swords (where two hands have to hold an object) it's not too bad out of the box!
Great tutorial!
1 question though, when there is an audio clip that plays in the time dilation duration, it plays twice, once regularly and once slowed. any way of fixing that?
Really great question, I haven’t dealt with this since I add my audio in my editing software, but hope you can find an easy way around this!
@@JoshToonen I haven't thought about adding the sound after the editing is done so i guess that counts as a solution :)
thanks!
Awesome help. How would one recognise if the eye material is present in Element 0 or 1 or any other Element in the Skeletal Mesh Component Hierarchy ? Can it be recognised without changing the existing value to see if it is being affected or not?
Whatever’s easiest, we created the assets so we knew which material slot did what, but most assets (Quixel assets at least!) just have one material slot anyways. But the guess and check method never fails!
@@JoshToonen Thanks
Soooo great, you really need a thanks button. Also reeeallly appreciate the free Crash Course...if you're not 100k subs by summer I'll be shocked. ~peace🕊
Thanks Jimmy, let’s see! 🙏
I always try to find character animation already made but can't find according to my desire. I don't have enough equipment to capture animation. 😢😢😢
I can't do it anyway.
Checkout my other video The Animation Cheatcode (one of the first Unreal videos), that should help get you started!
Pleaz make a tutorial on retargeting animation on character sir
We cover this in Unreal Fundamentals in-depth but have a really exciting animation freebie dropping very very soon :D
Is there an easy way to avoid clipping with the floor?
Yes, with a Control Rig you can move the hips/feet off the ground! (we have some exciting tools for this coming soon to help this part of the process)
One i still haven't find yet who could clearly step up my game is how to animate a camera based on my spacemouse's movements, anyone have a solution for this ?
Seriously everytime i navigate my scenes with my spacemouse i'm wondering if this is possible because that could enable some very creative workflow !
I've never used a Spacemouse tbh, but look into creating some custom hotkeys for it!
@@JoshToonenFirst ( my previous comment was cut here ^^´ ) huge thanks for your incredible tutorials . It’ already super helpful for diving deeper into UE5.
Regarding the space mouse, I really appreciate your hotkey suggestion but not sure if i correctly explained my problem .
For example without spacemouse when you’re navigating your 3D scene in Unreal Engine 5 using your mouse and keyboard, how will capturing those spontaneous movements as you explore ?
If you wanted to record those movements exactly as you made them, turning them into a camera animation path within the Level Sequencer, how would you approach it?
That’s essentially the challenge I’m facing with my space mouse
I’m looking for a way to directly record these navigations to refine them into dynamic camera sequences.
To give you a bit more context, I’ve already got this plugin that lets me navigate through my 3D scenes as if I’m controlling a camera directly with the space mouse.
It’s fantastic for creating dynamic camera movements like if i was controlling a very precise drone ´s camera that I’d love to capture as animations within the Level Sequencer.
However, even with this setup, I’m hitting a snag when it comes to recording these movements as camera animations.
I’m curious if you have any insights on using perhaps the Sequencer or maybe the Take Recorder to capture these movements as camera animations (because in the viewport it's already reacting to my spacemouse) ?
I’m looking for a way to directly record the camera paths I create with the space mouse, but so far, I haven’t found a way to do this within UE5’s existing framework.
If you have any suggestions or could point me towards a feature or tool within UE5 that I might be overlooking, it would be massively helpful. I’m really keen on preserving the originality of these movements in my projects.
Thanks again for all the help and inspiration.
