If you don't mind me asking, why do you not suggest the paper clip method (an alternative method) of extracting trouble codes on the 1982-1995 GM vehicles?
Great vid thanks for the info...quick question..Do you know if car dealerships for your specific maker (mines is a toyota) do diagnostic test on cars from 1982-1995???
Mike9798999 I’m not 100% but I’m gonna say no, most dealerships will turn you around and refer you to a mechanic shop at least the ones I’ve been to, however I have gotten them to work on my 01 impala but it was obd2
Did it work without your check engine light on mines dont work i dont see how im going to check the flashes if my engine light doesn't come on(1990 Caprice)
lazaro palomino 🤷🏻♂️ you may have to pull the cluster out the dash and change the little bulb,...as long as it’s the actual bulb that’s out... I’d start with checking fuses and making sure your getting fire to the obd plug before taking anything apart👍🏼
shorting a to b,does not work on GM B body and some F bodies,on certain years,95 impala and caprice are some of them,93 Camaro, also won't flash lights in code for you!
I have a 95 Beretta 3.1 V6. This does not work on my OBD1. My terminals are not side by side (A & B) The are upper and lower, (A & M) Any one, any ideas?
@@brycejensen5020 didn't work for me either on my 1993 s10. The repair manual I bought said there's some abs codes that can only be read by a gm tech1 code reader.
@@brandonsasser360 That is roughly the story I got. And around me, there are no shops, or dealerships that can help. The camshaft on this car broke in half one day so I dont worry about it anymore. But it does bring back mems.
I have a 91 park avenue and the GM service manual shows jumpering the first two pins (paper clip method) to read the codes on the check engine light. So I'm sure it's fine.
He finally shuts the hell up and actually shows us how to use it @2:17
😂
thanks dude👌
You meant thank you ?
Basically, the code reader shorts the terminals for you. Save $40 and get a paperclip.
Get the key on ebay and keep it on you
Paperclip?

Very helpful! I’m looking to buy a C4 Corvette and I’m definitely getting that GM OBD1 Code Reader to help me work on it!
Thanks for this. Not any videos out there on how to do it the right way, only the ghetto paperclip way

This, nor a paper clip, work on my '95 Pontiac Grand Am. It even says that in the book it came with.
I’ve got a 93 Gas K3500, the SEL is on, but it never flashes when then reader is in. Any suggestions?
Sometimes I have to wiggle mine around (no pun intended) and it’ll catch but I end up having to hold it in the position
Do you know if you can read ABS codes on 90-93 Chevy ?
Jump the two terminals all the way at the top on the right with the key on and it will tell you your codes
@@boshhutchings8145 I tried but it doesn't work on mine
Can I use this to program a keyfob
Does this code reader scan with out engine light on 🧐🤔
Dj Lemo it will scan without the light on but it will read the default code 12 if there are no saved codes on the ECM

Paper clip perfectly fine.

Where do you put the reader? He had it in his hand the whole time.
Underneath your steering wheel look there will be an open plug that’s wide
please what is the difference between obd1 andobd 2

I know it's a year late, but a paperclip does the same thing
