  • This shows how to set up and configure an OBD1 GM ALDL to USB cable (from OBD Diagnostics, Inc. at aldlcable.com) with Windows 10 and TunerPro RT V4. I go through the settings required to make the cable connect from car to laptop to read data. Then I show how to define and set up the files to log live ALDL stream data in the TunerPro RT program. I found that the TunerPro program will put multiple data collection sessions into a single file once it is defined. The video shows how this works through several short data collections in my 3rd Gen Camaro 305 TPI (1985) while the car is parked. The focus is understanding how to save and retrieve the data for review.

Your videos have really helped and is contributing to keeping these cars diagnosed, and therefore, on the road. Can you do a video on actually tuning, due to discontinued parts such as the ninth injector, and egr solenoid. Could you do a video showing how to modify your tune, emulate, and change parameters such as these?

I am not up to the tuning part yet, I still have some things to learn. However, let me think about an approach to those issues.

Thanks for the detailed step by step, i was able to log the data, export and put some charts together in Excel. I am trying to diagnose a high idle problem. Today i noticed the cooling fan kicked in but the flag for fan request did not indicate the command was set. Is there a way to send an image via comments or files ? I would like to share a chart i put together with the data and a comparison with the Bin file for the IAC vs coolant and hear your thoughts ifni am in the right track.

If you look under my "about" header on my home page, there is an email address under description for business requests.
The fans have overrides on some vehicles, usually air conditioning has a direct mechanical switch that is no monitored by ECM.

Thank you for this information. Did you use the cable that has the 10k ohm resistor or the one without it?

The cable that I have has a movable jumper in the plug at the USB end. The 10k resistor is built in and you can use it either way. There are 4 pins that protrude from the top of the plug and if you put the tiny (1/4") jumper across one pair you get the 10k and if it's across the other pair, the 10k is switched out or bypassed.
On some controllers, it is said that you can start with 10k in to get data started and then move the jumper to take it out. On my '85 that doesn't work and I need the 10k in all the time.

Looks like they changed the gui for version 5?

Yes, there are some changes. It took a little work to adapt, but it wasn't too hard.
