A Taste Of India: Ep 2 - Backpacking from Goa To Kerala

  • Опубліковано 23 вер 2016
  • Watch my first trip to India in this travel documentary, as I spent 6 weeks backpacking around the country.
I spent 3 weeks backpacking through the cities of the north and then another 3 weeks in the beaches and backwaters of the south.
Episode 2 of this travel documentary is the southern half of ny journey.
Starting in Goa I enjoyed the different beaches and vibes of north and south Goa, including Vagator, Arambol and Palolem beach.
I then travelled inland to the beautiful ancient ruins of Hampi.
Working my way further south I relax on a canoe through the stunning Kerala backwaters, before finishing my trip in the cool beach town of Varkala.

Everyone who once had an idea of India always gets proven wrong, once he you actually travel there the country is simply too diverse and big, you always just get a glimpse of it when you travel there. Its an experience you have to make yourself. If you ask me India has more freedom than any other country on this planet. Noone will tell you what to do as long as you are not offensive. If yuo are generally nice to others you will have a great time in India, especially in Jaipur if you ask me. Its totally diffrent to our western world, even if India was conquered for so long and so many things got destroyed during the time.

Bushwood That's really funny.I have heard that from people who have not yet visited India. Probably shaped by the biased western media coverage on India. Every state in India is a different country. Why u may ask ? Because Food, language, colour, clothing , culture everything changes. Probably the most diverse country on Earth. Incredible India !

    Karl Watson: Travel Documentaries
The reason why south india is peaceful and north india so chaotic is because way back in 1800-1900's everyone wanted to come to india and the easiest ways to come to india was north and hardest way to enter india was south route due to the indian ocean and pacific ocean. North india seems chaotic because many rulers came from the northern path and ruled india for long long time and so it is full of chaos and it is very diverse as it kept on changing hence you can see difference in people, food, and culture . And on the other hand south is peaceful because it has a very long and undisturbed background and history, and so people their are well aware of their history and are educated, it kind of has that safety and secured feeling because very few people ever came to south in past.....hope this information helps you all 😊

    • @karthikj8969
      @karthikj8969 6 років тому +10

Urja Vyas : God had two magic powders with him when he created India . The first one , for colour , was sprinkled from north to south , and it hardly reached the southern parts of India . So , when he decided to sprinkle the magic powder of wisdom , he started from south and ended in north . ( hardly anyone receiving it in north) . Hence the chaos. 😂

Karthik J brother isn't Pakistan and China enough to break our country, why are you comparing country in itself....!!! I'm a North Indian and I accept that South Indians are wiser and more peaceful then North Indians.... That's what our country is about bro unity in diversity, I'm proud of you people. You should also take pride in North Indians who fought hard with Invaders to protect India. Brother I'll advise you to not think politically.... We all are one.

I flew to Mumbai in 1989 and took the train to Pune, where I stayed for a week, and then took three weeks to get to the southernmost tip of India, all by train, and up the east coast to Chennai, where I took the train back to Mumbai (25 hours).
My favourite things were the backwater trip from Allepey to Quilon, the railway up to Ootacamund, (and a trip back in wooden carriages with female cashew nut pickers) Mysore and Madurai. But there was so much more.

I visited India in 1980, it has changed so much. Very touristy but still looks so great. I travelled mainly by train south from Mumbai to the far south. Ferry to Sri Lanka which you cannot do now. Then travelled north to Kashmir. I missed out on Kolkata and want to go back and travel west to east and back Delhi to Kolkata and back to Delhi. You have filled in a few gaps such as Hampi.

I was wondering why you didn't go to the north of India(Himalayas) and got my answer at the end.

Actually kerala has very severe drinking problem and the govt is doing everything it can to make it harder to drink but it was not working 95% of the states men drink and its a social and health issue. The govt got fed up and now has outright banned alcohol/liquor now.
Tamilnadu its neighbouring state is now the fastest growing liquor market in the country and you know why and they govt he is considering phased probation too.
Kerala also introduced fat tax. In a way govt here are proactive when its comes to health.I advise to starting India trips from South its more gentle and then work your way up the country. I also feel sad that most people not even consider the North East of India if you love nature then its the place.

I love the way you explain the country at the end of the documentary!! I had a lot of trouble explaining how i felt about the country when i returned home, but you nailed it! Everything depends on your mood. When I showed my pictures and footage to my friends they thought I was mad for lasting three months in such conditions. My legs were covered in mosquito bites and I was happy to be home, but after a few weeks I could laugh about the bad circumstances as well! i got used to sleeping through the sound of tuktuks and bollywood music on buses and could'nt get any sleep when I returned home! Probably the most mentally challenging country i've visited so far!

27:00 journey through the canal is incredibly beautiful. I'm touched by the image of the woman and the bird standing next to her.
I liked your honesty at the end. I too liked it and hated it. Like anywhere it has its pros and cons. (noise and garbage vs diverse entertainment and excitement). When I got home I thought I'd never go back and had huge culture shock to adjust to my city. Now, 11 years later I want to go back to live. I feel like I left a piece of my heart there. It took me time to process it all and hopefully people are patient with foreigners in this situation.
((now if only every citizen could clean up the land within one meter the entire country would be clean in a week.)) With increased population the government really needs to up their campaign to improve this but that's a downside I'm willing to deal with and will make sure that I don't bitch about it when I'm there.
