One of the most terrifying things that I've done on a Harley-Davidson Road Glide!

- I've done a lot of challenging things riding Harley-Davidson Motorcycles, and this shouldn't have made me worry, but I'm not going to lie, I was terrified.
It's a lot less stressful when you are only responsible for your own well-being but I didn't want to leave San Francisco without taking my wife down the World Famous Lombard Street on a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle. Join us as we continue on our two-up road trip on a built 124 Cubic Inch 2023 Harley-Davidson Road Glide across the United States. Road Gliding America San Francisco.

I lived out there in the late 80s early 90s. I was there for the 7.0 earthquake. It's beautiful and I miss it, but so is East TN.
Not beautiful anymore you wouldn’t even recognize it absolute cesspool. Sad
Your better off in Tennessee today!
“She had no idea how scared she shoulda been!”
Had me cracking up…great ride, Tall! Loved the video!
Brother you are braver than Iam I been to San Francisco a few times on my Harley and I avoid the hills good job
Never come to my city again without getting my permission!! Just kidding. Good video. It is always enjoyable to see motorcyclists from other places enjoy San Francisco.
Great video. Great editing too. Not one homeless person.
Drove this street yrs ago but never rode it
Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. I've driven, but never ridden, down Lombard Street; I'm glad it was you and not me. I'm 5'8" and my legs probably wouldn't have reached; I'd have been on somebody's TikTok or Instagram dropping my Street Glide. And I loved "She had no idea how scared she should have been!"
Man, I was getting anxiety watching this!😮
Another fantastic video.
Dear Tall, I love your channel but I have a bone to pick with you. You didn't go up the steepest street in SF. You didn't ride down the crookedest street in SF, and, finally, you came here and rode without me. LOL. I wish there was a way to know you'd be in SF. I would have shown you some amazing roads to ride on. It would have been such an honor to ride with you and to share this city I live in and love with all my heart.
Thanks for the videos. If you're ever in SF again I'd love to find a way to hook up and go for some awesome rides. The twisties in NorCal are breathtaking!!!
I live there now. I would of escorted you around the Bay Area or the City. It's good to see other people enjoying my area like I do
Excellent video & it looks like Lombard St. is no joke
I was terrified just watching you. Seriously, I could feel the stress.
Brother it's probably a good thing the wife didn't know , you might have been in that viral video. Stay safe out there. Sharp looking bike too.✌️
Now that’s a road trip!
Nice video keep up the good work traveling tall ride safe
Wow going up and going down those curves are definitely slow speed maneuvering 😮
Balance was the most important thing. The friction zone can't help you going down hill. I wouldn't recommend leaning at speeds less than 5mph going down hill, at least in this situation.
Great video. I've lived in San Francisco since the 1970's and have been riding since the 1980's. Right now I have a BMW R1250RT which I ride all over San Francisco. My wife and I are planning a trip out towards Nashville/Memphis later this year (end of September). We're meeting up with a friend who will be riding down from Boston. I've enjoyed your videos and have taken a lot of information from them. Thanks again.
I’m about an hour away from SF, but I always appreciate the many different camera angles, & reactions from people who post their videos, ❤️🏍☕️
Oh man does this video make me homesick and brings back memories. I drove down Lombard street in a 1978 Corvette after my high school prom (zero traffic because it was late at night). I’ve been dreaming of riding my bike across country home to California…not getting any younger…I need to just do it.
You are skilled brother. And you were not using “Hill Hold Assist” feature.
Plus the back weight and going up-hill which will make the steering a lot lighter which should have made you nervous on thinking you are losing control to actually do make you lose control… plus how you brake down-hill which doesn’t jerked the steering with the back weight load.
THAT IS SKILLED!
I've been down Lombard St. and I ride, but I wouldn't ride down Lombard St. Major props to you!!!
That road glide is so sexy. Even with the tour pack. Much love from Australia.❤
I did the San Francisco thing last summer. Traffic, including tour buses & pedestrians was much heavier when I was there. It took about 15 minutes to get to top of Lumbard St. Traffic going down moving so slow I wasn’t comfortable riding down, so I didn’t. Disappointed I couldn’t find a place to park to even take pics. It has been fun seeing places, that I’ve seen, through the eyes of Mr & Mrs Tall. I think you will enjoy the PCH. ❤
Glad you and your wife got to do that trip together. Another great video enjoy and be safe.
You did the right thing to stop in front of the cross walk. When I had a 5 speed pick up truck, I had no choice but do the same.
I had a 68 Camaro with wide tires from and back went down Lombard St each turn I had to stop back up go forward. People were not happy., Thanks for bring back some memories.
Get it Tall, love your adventures and how you do your thing.
I live in Portland, OR and have family in Sacramento. So I have driven to San Francisco many times. A couple of years after I started riding I went on a trip along the ocean. Highway 101 to highway 1 all the way to SF. I spent a night in Santa Rosa before heading into SF where I would spend next 2 days riding, exploring, taking pictures. But 30 minutes before I got to SF my rear tire blew up on the highway while I was riding at 80mph. By the grace of God I did not crash, but was able to swerve and balance my way to a stop. Paid $500 to tow my bike into SF to my hotel. Then spent 2 days waiting for one of the shops to have the tire I needed to get my bike rolling. So I explored on foot. They fixed my tire at the end of day 2 and my time there was up. I only had time to ride my bike to Sacramento to leave it in my in-laws garage and take a flight home because I had to be at work the next day. Which was the original plan anyways. I was gonna come back in two weeks and ride my bike back up to Portland. But I didn't get a chance to ride it in SF and do all the fun things I planned. I'm coming back though.
Great video! Felt myself tensing up and gripping the bars too tight for you on Lombard 🤣 Be safe
Hey brother, glad your ride through SF was memorable, and Lombard is certainly a challenge, but Lombard is not even the steepest street in SF! That would be Bradford street. Scarier too 'cuz it is straight up and down, no switchbacks. So you gotta go back at least one more time. Cheers.
That was a nice ride brother, It gives me hope that at 62 I may ride and enjoy it myself. I know I can get there from here Lord Willing.
God Bless from your new sub in Orange County SoCali
Best thing about California was seeing it in my rear view mirrors.
That's a great video. San Fran is a special place to visit and driving up the left coast is beautiful.
Great video
Traveling Tall,
👌 You really are good 😌 👍

Dude, you're in my backyard, we do this on the daily... wish I could've run into you and the Mrs... Travel Tall my friend!
What an epic trip for you two!!! Looks like our kind of 2up riding! Def need to add some of these spots to our bucket list!
I’ve gone down Lombard street in an suv. It looks a lot more interesting on a motorcycle. Amazing video!
Hey Mr. and Mrs Tall…loved your video. Thank you so much for another fun video. Y’all stay safe.
Thanks bro 🙏..
Wow cool video, reminds me a little of Duluth Minnesota, where the roads go straight up like stair steps. I did that on wet blacktop but turned around half way, not enough traction, crazy scary. You da man for sure!
I've never been to San Francisco, but I've been to San Luis Obispo, LA, and Fort Ord when I was in the Army. I have driven a part of the coastal highway years ago. The highway was a breathtakingly beautiful drive. I'm going to have to return someday on one of my bikes.
I have been in the same situation on the steep hills before and all of those worries you mentioned as far as taking a spill because of the angle and incline of the road I also went through. Praise God I haven’t had a spill but it takes alot of concentration.
Excellent video and you ride up that steep hill made me pucker up. We lived in SF back in the early '70's so seeing some of the areas in your video brought back memories of the place we used to go to a lot. Safe travels and enjoy. Thanks.
Tall, I really hope that you enjoy the Left Coast. It's great to see you out with your wife. God bless you brother.
I prefer the look of your street glide
Well done boss
Used to be my daily commute. Lombard is definitely wild. Broke my parking brake cable trying to hold my Mustang on it years ago 😅
You mentioned the wall moving on the bridge. That yellow machine you caught on camera right as you hit the bridge is what does it.
Awesome video…….I love the Bay Area
San Franpoopsco. BTDT on my old Yamaha XS Eleven Vetter equipped. Camped in Marin County, and rode in to watch the Pirates play one evening at Candlestick Park.
If you park, be careful if you walk away from your bike. 🏍💨🏍💨
Many years ago I was going up the steepest hill in Astoria Oregon. My Isuzu Troopers carburetor float flipped back and flooded out the engine. I had to take apart the carb to free it.
Ready and waiting not patiently for the next video 😂.
Moved back to SF Bay Area from Texas. First ride I made was from Sonoma Valley to SF across the Golden Gate Bridge. I’ve always loved going over the GGB, car or bike.
Hey Tall, love these ride videos. I’ve been over the Golden Gate Bridge, but not on my Harley. Gotta go back to ride over it for sure!
Great video! Thanks for posting!
Great video Tall! You’ve inspired me to visit cali on my Indian chieftain!
Terrific 😱
Man that's one of the steepest roads I've ever been on foreal!
Worst thing I went down was Mount Washington TWO UP BIG PEOPLE full brake fade to almost nothing
NICE!
That is nuts my man! I was just in SF (without a bike) and saw tons of ADV bikes around town, but only harleys i saw were on the embarcadero (by the piers). What you should have done is taken the exit before going over the Golden Gate bridge (Marin Headlands). A great sweeping road with amazing views of the bridge and the bay. Anyway, enjoy and ride safe.
My wife and I rented a motorcycle in Seattle and rode down the coast to SF. Like good tourist we went down Lombard. It’s just another street when you are using all the right techniques. Great video.
I was in San Francisco last month and was near Lombard. Very crowded on the curvy side. I did it years ago in a car so skipped it this time.
I hope you enjoyed that... When it comes to riding highways, we've got the goods in California. You could ride highway 1 from North of Fort Bragg, to $an Diego!
✌️
I bet you felt all tingly being in San Francisco. You pulled up nice and close to that Tesla. I am betting LT cringed when he saw that.
Too bad you didn't get a chance to go up the Oregon Coast Highway 101!! There is fantastic scenery and also sandy beaches all the way up the coast..
Ride safe!!
I use to live in the northern bay area of California...
The steep parts of San Francisco I would refer to as "Urban 4 wheel driving"
They actually have another street like Lumbar street on the east side of the city but it's not lined with houses...
That Hill is perfect for a Trike 😁
I agree
Great video, glad you are able to experience it together.
Have you ever ridden the Devil's triangle in eastern TN? That's a wild road
Rode that 2 up with all our gear etc. it was a great time but man was I tired afterwards! Would recommend it to anyone.
How long did it take you guys to complete your cross country try, another great video, been across the bridge and on lombard street and you're right it can be nerve racking. Glad you guys enjoyed your trip✌🏾🙏🏾
The problem I had was the slow traffic and not being able to firmly plant both feet and I'm nearly as tall. There's also a fine layer of sand or sea salt from the air on the bricks which has made them smooth over time and is like tiny ball bearings when you try to plant a foot.
I retired in 2021 from the SFPD as a motorcycle officer for 14 of my last years of service. you think Lombard is bad, our training consisted of eight weeks of slow motor maneuvers and tackling the hills of San Francisco on a Harley Davidson, Road King. Try doing a U-turn in the middle of the California Street hill, or escorting the President of the United States at high speeds through the City, regardless of the terrain, traffic, and weather. That’s scary! Nevertheless, it seems like you had a nice time in the city. It is nice to see. 👮🏻♂️🇺🇸
You’re a BRAVE MAN going straight up Lombard Street with your wife on back with a fully loaded RG too! I couldn’t do it and I have a Trike 😂
Be safe Tall 👍🏼🏍️🙏🏼
Wow! 🏆™️
Niiiice. Shoot I was holdin my breath for you goin through the city lol I’m from NorCal and I despise having to drive through there or even visit lol
Welcome to the Bay!
Thank you, I know that can be 15 degrees colder 3 miles down the road.
@@TravelingTall The saying is “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco”
Sort of a must do when there. Done in 83
Next time you have to stop before the bridge and tour, the old armybase ruined on the right side nice 5 mile tunnel black Beach nice curvy ride
Wow last time I was in San Francisco and Napa Valley was in 1981 while in the Army and Stationed at Fort Ord Ca. It was totally different for this country boy from deep Southern Illinois.
I recommend Barbara’s fish trap in half moon bay have a safe ride brother
I have ridden a Harley Electra Glide across the GG Bridge. It was a hot August day and when we hit the Bridge it was foggy and freezing cold. And no, I would never ride the bike down Lombard Street. I'm terrified thinking about it.
My wife and I where in SF way back in 1985. China town has the best Chinese food I have ever eaten in my entire life an I've eaten a lot of Chinese food in my 64.5 years on this rock. B.T.W. what exhaust you running on that RG. Awesome video, thanks for sharing.
Tall,
With your new intro music you need a Stetson and a black oil cloth Duster. 👍🏽
Would love the challenge. But definitely not in the rain.
You could see the angle from the sidewalk angle to the houses.
Man I don't know about that hill. Those stop signs made it tough.if I can keep moving I don't mind hills. Having to stop on those grades at only 5'7 , no thanks 😮
Hey tall I was wondering if u can break down the major components I would need to get my motor to be a 128 big bore kit kind of like yours?? I know u got the zippers on both of your bikes and I watched all of your videos but I was wondering if you could list all the parts other than the cam chest kit and big bore kit?? Please let me know I want something with that power but that is reliable and I can miles on it for years to co.e with no issues!! By the way glad your trip has been super fun with the wife one to remember forsure!!
Whoa.
Hey Tall! Why did the Road Glide get the nod to go to San Fran as opposed to the Street Glide? I'm VERY surprised at your decision!
Tall, what camera model is in the view on the snake off the Handlebar? Curious
I did Lombard in 1986 on my Ninja.
you should watch "two wheels big life" on a hill pulling the trailer and having to stop at the top and sliding back down.
You need a Dark Green '66 Mustang. Doug Domokos rode a motorcycle up and down a curvy hill side street on the rear wheel of his Motorcycle ..
Another neat video. Tall will u be at or near biketoberfest in Daytona in 3 weeks. Trying to get there this time last year I started ti feel weird turns out I had brain cancer. Got it cut out. One year later it's totally gone finally getting license back. I've been at the harley dealer near where u live not sure where I'm going week after Daytona. Who knows may even be gatlinburg again anyway maybe I'll finally get to meet u
That was a steep hill, but I also noticed that Tesla rolling back, I would've kept my distance also.
I wish you visited 5 years ago. It was soooooo much better
Wowwwww, that was definitely a steep hill. Im sure the camera didn't do justice but it was definitely noticeable. Excellent content.
I wouldn't be worrying about a viral tik tok if went down I'd be scared of wife
If you park your bike in San Francisco the whole bike would probably be missing or your stuff would have been taken. 😂
I guess it's good I didn't park and walk around.
If you still out here in west coast anywhere near Monterey Santa Cruz, I’d love to ride with you! (I don’t have a Harley though) I’m stationed out here for the time being, but miss my TN people😂
