This is one of my faves. I have a suggestion- I don’t cook the pasta in the soup. I cook it separately as needed so that I can have fresh leftovers. The longer the pasta sits in the liquid the soggier it gets. So unless I know that the quantity of soup will be consumed at one meal I forgo the pasta in the soup and instead put it in the serving dish and mix it up with the soup as needed.
Looks very hearty here. Cooking is always an artform, every chef's interpretation of a dish is their own and they do as they desire. Looks a lot like something I can use in my future restaurant vision for lunch.
Mmmm some pasta fazoool! lol. Ive been begging my wife for me to make this the way my mother used to make it. She would add thick pepperoni slices to it. My wife doesnt want any of it but ill just make it for myself lol
Bay Leaves=I wrap mine in a coffee filter. I fold it and then add to the pot. It makes it very easy to find and take out when done cooking. Or tie shut w/kitchen string.
I love oregano, specially in my tea (Shay). I add it in the recipe my family uses. In a kettle -Add a few cloves, cracked whole cardamom & crashed cinnamon stick -Add desired amount of sugar (optional) -Add water & let it simmer -Add a tea packet & a little oregano (turn of the heat in half a minute or so) -Strain into a thermos & seal tight then it’s ready to serve Most of the time, I even forgo the actual tea packet & just use a bit more oregano.
lol....my dad NEVER swore....he made up his own curse words if he hit his finger with a hammer or the dog did something really naughty. His favorite curse was PASTA FAGOL!!! I was about 9 years old, my friend's mom asked me to stay for dinner. Oh, thanks, what are you cooking? Pasta Fagiioli! Your recipe looks delicious.
Its amazing how you said that we should make our own dishes by changing a bit of the recipes if needed. It shows how creative you really are with your ways of cooking.
Your tangent is correct in a very gentle way. I can’t do onions for many dishes that say to include them, but I still find ways to enjoy the dishes by excluding them entirely or by using an onion substitute. That’s what makes cooking and trying new recipes fun!
Looks fantastic, I have had 100 different recipes all similar yet unique. My personal fave use Parmigiana Reggiano rhinds in the pot. No sense in throwing those away, it is a flavorful additive and it will reduce any need for adding salt. Thank You for this recipe
I'm of the school that doesn't feature the mirepoix veggies (I chop them pretty finely), uses only a bit of tomato, eschews herbs. and adds a Parmesan rind to the soup as it cooks. Diners sprinkle the soup with grated Parmesan, to taste. This is the way my Jewish grandmother made it!
OMG - This looks so delicious! I would need about a half loaf of Italian bread with butter, & some Locatelli cheese grated on top of the soup. But, that is just my preference!
I made this recipe last night and it was sooooooo delicious! I didn't have the macaroni pasta so used shells instead. I also added chopped pancetta to the onions as they browned. Otherwise, followed the recipe exactly. Thanks.
Beautifully done. I made my Italian mom’s recipe today for the first time ever. I’m a man who loves his meats, but this dish is one of my favorites because it is so so good without it. And though my mom’s recipe of course differs from yours, cooking is an art, not a science!
This looks amazing, we are making a big pot of potato leek soup as I type, we have soup weather here, ice, snow, ice snow blah blah blah….I could go on lol Thank you for sharing, I think this may be my next endeavour ❤️ Have a great rest of the week John, Brian, Lauchlan and George xoxo
Thanks John for this wonderful delicious recipe. like you said make it your own! i added cayenne pepper, garlic salt cumin, black beans and light red kidney beans and it was delicious 🤤 Great for the Cold weather.

Mr.mancini...sir.i use alot of your recipes..yesterday i made your mocha cake..it was devine...thankyou so much for all your help and advice.you are a fantastic chef
This looks delicious. Can hardly wait to try. I really like your turkey chili recipe. I have made it a few times. Keep doing what you’re doing. You’re terrific!
Pasta Fagioli is my favorite soup at Olive Garden. I was very disappointed when they took it off the menu, though my daughter says it's back. I'd rather make my own, so I can add different beans. I like Cannellini and Kidney but I'll often add White or Pink beans.
Hi John , I have recently found your channel and your technique and advice are very nice . I like your carefree personality , but your serious love for food . My only other video of your channel was a dessert, and I commented that I would like to see a video of Italian Wedding Soup . Perhaps you will one day when you feel like it . Anyway .... this looks awesome . I suppose some cornbread , or like you said , a crunchy toast . Thank You .
It’s really good! I just brown the meat up in the beginning then add the vegetables to sauté … exact same way he does just add gr beef in the beginning
I enjoy you and your channel!! You remind me of a friend I have Robbie Nelson!! I think when I can I'll purchase your book!! I'm an older gal on a limited buget!! Thanks!! Sending blessings!! ❤ Mamma Carolyn

Thats what this looks like... like he said over the yrs people changed it... this isnt the Traditional way of making it... my brother in law makes it and it looks like chicken soup LOL my sister had me laughing so hard when she sent me a pic and asked me what it looked like and then told me what it was... so people make it differently... BTW he is Italian also SMDH
I ❤ the dish My concern is when we have sour liquids like tomatoe puree or lemon juice for longer time in the cooking vessel...it over takes the taste...hardly the pasta, veggies taste comes out... Like some have commented to add pasta later when dinning than add early...for immediate consumption its gr8 👍 else for winter it so sumptuous...Tnx...
I'm curious if you have ever saved the cheese rinds and added to the soup while it is cooking. I have read about this but have never tried it. I can hardly wait to try this!!!
One of my favorite soups to make! Once when I made this my grandson wouldn't eat, his parents made him sit there until he would eat it.. I finally did the "Airplane, car, motorcycle.." game with him to get him to try it! He said, "I love this soup! But do I have to eat the grass (fresh parsley) that is in it?" We laughed and laughed. Now he is older and he laughs when I tell him what he said.
This looks good! I have a similar recipe that I use with my insta pot but it’s for Minestrone🤔 I just got a duct oven for Christmas and will trying your recipe 😊
Thank-you, I love this recipe. Question, is there a Pasta Fagioli with hamburger in it? For some reason, I thought the Olive Garden's Pasta Fagioli had hamburger in it.... or is this a different recipe all together?
This is one of my faves. I have a suggestion- I don’t cook the pasta in the soup. I cook it separately as needed so that I can have fresh leftovers. Yes, I cook my pasta separately.
Same here, but I would say that it sometimes depends on the soup and the type of pasta being used.
I also cook my pasta separately, any soup asking for pasta or rice
Very helpful-thanks!
🤣😂🤦♀️
I’m a big believer in the idea that good cooking is an art. Every Chef’s interpretation of a dish is theirs to do as they please. As you please.
I agree! Cooking is an Art, Baking is a science.
well said👏🏻
When the stars make you drool just like a pasta e fasule, that's amore!
I hear it 🎶🎶🎶
I love hearty, nutritious vegetarian soups like this. Some parmesan would be good over it, too! Yum! Perfect for this time of year.
I love Pasta Fazoo and I love extra garlic, too! You have the best cooking series on the web! Cheers~
My mom’s side of the family is Italian and I grew up eating this wonderful soup. Thank you for the recipe
That dish looks like it screams COMFORT!!! Thank you for sharing this John ❤❤
I absolutely love the way you teach cooking!!!

Made this tonight and my wife and I absolutely love it!
Oh my goodness, made this for dinner tonight and added some browned spicy Italian sausage… Just amazingly delicious !
thank you thank you!!
I love oregano, specially in my tea (Shay). I add it in the recipe my family uses.

With that said, at the end sprinkle in some Parmesan cheese to add a salty note to the dish and a tad more flavor.
But yours is still good.
Wow!!! That soup looks Absolutely Delicious!!! Perfect time of year for soup!!! Thank you for sharing your recipe with us!!! God Bless Us All!!!
SUCH a great recipe!!!
I made a double batch and added in some mild Italian sausage. Was perfect for a small gathering of friends.
Looks fantastic, I have had 100 different recipes all similar yet unique. My personal fave use Parmigiana Reggiano rhinds in the pot. No sense in throwing those away, it is a flavorful additive and it will reduce any need for adding salt. Thank You for this recipe
John you never dissapoint....thank you for this excellent recipe
I love your recipes. It’s been years and everytime I want to make something new I search to see if you have a recipe!
I like to add just one can of beans and one half moon sliced zucchini! Love your videos!
I love this recipe. It looks so healthy and inexpensive.😊
Made this turned out.excellent I adjusted the Spices as.per my taste like added bay leaf thyme rosemary and stuff. Super yummy
OMG - This looks so delicious! I would need about a half loaf of Italian bread with butter, & some Locatelli cheese grated on top of the soup. But, that is just my preference!
Me too!! Exactly as you described

I made this tonight. It's absolutely delicious.
Looks good cold weather meal 👍
This soup is also great with grated parmigiana cheese.
It's kinda like chili with pasta. Yum!

Love this ! I sometimes brown up gr beef or gr turkey to put in it also! It’s definitely a family favorite ❤️
I was wondering about doing that. How it would be....
It’s really good! I just brown the meat up in the beginning then add the vegetables to sauté … exact same way he does just add gr beef in the beginning
thanks so much. I am going to make it this way soon.@@gardeningforlife6587
This soup is one of my favorites -- I can't wait to try your recipe!

This looks amazing!! ♥
Hi there, thank you for this great video. What parts do you use? I love these white heavy pots and pans but I don’t know what they’re called.
I do that alot..take different recipes and take something from each and make it my own
Looks delicious 😋 ❤👍👍
Great video John😊😊
This looks good! I have a similar recipe that I use with my insta pot but it’s for Minestrone🤔 I just got a duct oven for Christmas and will trying your recipe 😊
I add my carrots before my celery since it takes longer to cook.
Thank-you, I love this recipe. Question, is there a Pasta Fagioli with hamburger in it? For some reason, I thought the Olive Garden's Pasta Fagioli had hamburger in it.... or is this a different recipe all together?
It's so easy to make. I have to try this pasta.
Delicious pasta recipes ❤
Oh this looks tasty!
Adding this to my list for the weekend
Hey John, there is only so much baking you can do, right! It's time to get cooking! 👍😀😜
Hi John! Do you have a pecan praline recipe?
Can this recipe be made in the crock pot?
