Just installed the G900 in my 2002 Lexus LX470. What a view! Totally happy and easy to install (outside rear camera, no wired power). When the camera is switched off, the unit reflects just like a normal rear view mirror. How cool is that as a backup? I highly recommend this camera: very high quality, high res front/rear view, touch screen, adjustable view, etc
I actually installed mine outside the car, which is covered by snow and rain all the time. Thank you so much for making this video, I will relocate mine soon.
i'm thinking of getting the G840 unit and installing the backup camera the same way as you have on my Xterra. i'd like it to be useful for lining up my hitch mount to trailer though and wondering if it has the scope/angle to capture the view nearly straight down. i don't have tire mounted back there.
my next gx470 update is adding ditch lights inside fog light housing then adding L shaped Leds to tail lights. I just finished amplifier/DSP replacement of the ML amplifier .
I ran my wire under the weatherstrip just like you and it started leaking water into the rear trunk carpet. You might not notice because it’s a slow leak but if it’s smells like dirty water then you know why. Check the carpet on rainy days.
I didn’t explain it very well in the video but you use the monitor as the mirror. It’s a bit hard to explain but the mirror view is totally visible while the monitor shows the live image. You can also just turn the screen off and it’s a normal rearview mirror.
The G900 came out when I posted this so I don’t think the 930 is an updated version but rather a different (more compact) model. Definitely reach out to Wolfbox to confirm though because I’m not 100% sure. As for night vision, on the front, cars come into visual range of the camera when the headlights shine on them. It’s pretty great. The rear night vision is not nearly as good because headlights shine towards it, it’s 2.5k and it has to see through a factory tinted rear glass, but despite that, I think it works just fine within 20 ft or so.
Thanks for the video. Two questions: The Wolfbox site shows various options for the G900 kit (with hardwire kit; with 33' cable; with hardwire kit and 33' cable). Which version of the kit did you use? Also, have you looked at the quality of the recorded video? Is it good enough to upload the video to UA-cam or whatever, if you record an interesting section of off-road trail? Thanks!
Thanks for watching! I’d get the hardwire kit with the longer cable. I think they sent me the standard cable length and it was cutting it CLOSE. I haven’t looked at the footage yet but I have a dongle in the way to allow me to review the video and can let you know. I’m sure at 4k resolution, it should be good enough quality for UA-cam.
It is designed to have glare because it still functions as a mirror. It’s kinda hard to explain, but it is a mirror first and a camera monitor second. So I use it at night with peripheral vision to check how far back headlights are with the mirror. But if I focus on the monitor, I can actually get a visual of the car. But yes, if you don’t point the mirror at your eyes, you’ll just be using it as a digital monitor
smooth install, you did a great job at hiding the wires. Love watching your page so I can plan what to do with my GX and this definitely happening. Thanks man

Can vouch for this camera setup. Mounted it outside in the middle of my spare after it blocked the view of my rear view mirror. For your switch panel, try routing the wire behind the steering column, I’ve had mine there since I’ve installed it and it’s a lot more hidden.

Great walk through! Much appreciated!
You are the best bro! Awesome work!
Usually with those add-a-fuse you save one slot for the original fuse. In this case did you eliminate your cigarette lighter?
@@Jstimp927 nope, everything still works
Does your cigarette port still works?
@@martinscarpone2396 yes.
I was thinking the same. Seems like he eliminated the original fuse for it because the mirror requires 2 slots
@@Jstimp927 everything still works the way I set it up with the add-a-fuse tap

@@dannynguyen8963 will do, thanks
So how do you use the rear view mirror? Can you get rid of the video so that can use the mirror, or is it completely circumvented to use this?

thanks for taking the time to make this, how is the night vision on this? Im looking to get the 930 which I think is a more updated version

I have a 2nd battery that's hooked up to solar. How would I wire it to my 2nd battery?
Hey great video! How is the camera holding up ?
@@APDom22 great. Still love this thing.
Hi! thanks for this video! Im planning to get the same one for my GX460, do you recommend any add ons or the included contents good enough?
The G900 with the rear cam is all u need.

Can any backup camera work. I have to use my Teyes camera for the Teyes CC3 head unit
It depends whether it has that 3-prong connector. Most do, but it would be good to check.
did you use it as a digital rear view mirror? if yes, is there glare from the headlight of vehicle behind during night drive?

This would have been a good setup for a trail camera
Yes totally agree. I already have a trail cam setup in my head unit screen though.

Yep, it’s perfect for spare tire relocation! Yeah haha I don’t know why I haven’t rerouted the Auxbeam wire yet, it’s on the list 😅
