fast, fluid, technical and controlled. a real definition of sparring without ego. amazing video always brother.
I've been recommending your channel to my team mates and yeah, they are improving lots. thanks always for posting such educative and awesome videos. May your channel prosper. ☺☺
Thank you brother !!
Weight class exists for a reason, but letting the bigger guy know that before sparring, and asking them to go light and not escalate, takes some humility. Hope to be more like you when I get young Jeff. Great content as always.
Thank you!!
When u get young? What’re u Benjamin button
"go light and not escalate" - why does this take humility? This is the norm for sparring. Here in Asia, we are taught that the goal is sparring is not to knock-out your opponent, or to go ALL out; the purpose is to practice/improve form, spacing, timing, and stamina.
I'm quite surprised by North America and western countries always having a problem with that 1 guy in the gym who is aggressive/has an ego. You never find that in a gym here in Japan cuz that person is kicked out or doesn't last very long.
@@Moiez101 it isn't that difficult to imagine why two competitive guys hitting each other can escalate to harder and faster hits. *Edited for typo
@@Moiez101 Go to an Asian boxing gym bro. It's a cultural thing with Muay Thai specifically and even then Thai fighters spar hard when they're preparing for fights. Thai fighters tend to do less hard sparring overall than say a western kickboxer because they fight way more often starting from when they are kids.
There is so much to unpack here. I'll be studying this for weeks.
Head movements off the kicks and punches, timed foot sweeps, combos...
Osss thanks for watching !
That's one of the awesome things about watching these breakdown videos. I learn so much from them. Thanks Jeff!
Yeah, sorry Jeff, he'd most likely put your lights out, that gas tank is no joke
They're obviously different weight classes numbnuts 😂
Yeah, totally agree. Dude probably has a lot of knockout power and he landed some good punches
He's like 3 weight classes above him...
Lmao 😂 he's at least 30 pounds heavier
What's the point of saying that exactly?
To answer your 'how would this have played out if we weren't going hyper-controlled' question; It is close imo! Coach def has some serious pressure. He is someone who I would never want to sit in the pocket and trade shots with. Some of those body shots would've really hurt and you even mentioned the volume of punches he throws being a catalyst for you losing vision, and then taking some damage.
That being said, your flying knee threats and ability to throw head kicks off weird angles def made him respect your space more, so I think at full speed, he would also have to respect that space even more. That allows you to play your game of crisp/clean strikes from the outside mixed with good footwork/head movement to do its magic.
Thanks as always for the content Jeff and coach G!
Thanks for your knowledge !!!
@@MMAShredded Thanks for all your content, insight, and responses on your videos. I've always appreciated that about your channel, so just keep doing your thing, Jeff!
IMO light sparring gives people with a pressure based style a lot more leeway than they would get in an actual fights pace, especially when sparring someone who likes to fight on the outside. When there is no real threat of a dangerous counter it favours their ability to close distance by blindly walking you down, however it’s not necessarily realistic to how an actual fight would transpire.
Unless you have a chin like Rodtang and can just walk through anything lol
But it goes both ways, its much easier to have dynamic striking and footwork in light sparring. Surviving the constant pressure from that type of guys in a fight or hard sparring is exhausting as hell, then your footwork and defense start to get lazy and you get cornered or caught with a big shot.
@@volodiaarnaud599 on top of this in hard sparring I can never seem to be creative with my striking. It’s the same 4 combos every time because I don’t wanna get caught out of position and eat a hard shot to the chin.
yeah it takes away a defensive & outside fighter's best weapon against them in hard counters, just look at all the brawlers Floyd Mayweather would neutralize in his fights, as the rounds would go on even though he's not a hard puncher the sharp counters let them know they'd get ko'd if they kept walking forward and eventually they'd just followed him around the ring, anxious to throw with a much lower output.
I thought this too, as an outside fighter
Cheers!
Love your breakdowns Jeff. As a newcomer to Muay Thai coming from a taekwondoe background these help me learn a whole lot. It is not just about the kicks but your punchs/knees definitely can do a lot of damage. I struggle with my defense but have been practicing on the bag and shadow boxing. Weaving/doging is also something I want to add to my game but I got work on my footwork first. Great content Jeff also your sparring sessions with Kevin Lee are awesome to watch too.
What I love about this the most is the EGO was nowhere to be found on either end. He genuinely enjoyed the session as did you. Plenty of mutual respect and a hell of a technical battle
cheers!!
For big man his self control is admirable
Very nice controlled with good sparing ethics :) no ego just pure skill from both of you. Great video again.
What I like about your podcast is that you show yourself getting taken down. You show control allowing for a true learning environment. You are not running on an ego. I am certain many are giving you advice on this podcast that is negative or counter productive for you and you allow that negative to roll off of your back. I find you to be a professional to the maximum. I for one enjoy all you disclose and that you appear so humble. Your training is differrent than what I am use to; however, I not only find it productive but I think it is awesome to test new waters. Please keep up the great work.
You asked who may win the fight, but I truly believe in this case there are 2 full cans and so the fight would not exist, remembering the empty can makes the most noise.
This one was awesome, loved how much volume you two got in
:)
Amazing sparring session and video breakdown , Love your content man!!
thanks brother!!
I love your sparring breakdowns! Also, I didn’t know there was a name for that style of striking. I train mma but that’s how I like to spar. I learn something new from you all the time. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you!!
There is also Muay Femur, technical fighters like Saenchai and Samart. Muay Khao are clinch fighters like Dieselnoi and Petchmorakat, and Muay Tei are heavy kickers like Samkor
Jeff throughly suprised you didn’t teep more. Muay maats HATE teeps. You keep that teep nice and snappy and long to keep them from just walking you down how they do.
True haha I suck at teeps
Interesting! Thanks for the advice on this! I'm trying to find videos showing which styles excel against other styles when used properly.
Man, your coach is a beast!!!
That was awesome! Love seeing people flow with skill. I picked up a few moves myself. Thank you!🙏
Thanks !!
This is phenomenal flow with a very dangerous opponent. Dope both of you are able to maintain constant control
Cheers!
And another good one! I really enjoyed binging your channel. 👍🏽
thank you!!
Your videos are on another level. This was amazing! I’m taking notes
I appreciate the feedback!!!
Always great sparring. Love your trigger reflex whenever the high guard goes up. Quick flurries or deceptive attacks. Coach has high IQ , timing and great pressure he will definitely run you into a KO.
Thank you!!
One of your best video for sure, thanks man
thanks for your feedback!!
I like the elaborate explanation of the style at the start. Good video.
Thank you!
Great sparring session. Great skill and control. Well done 🙏🏾
thank you!
you are so humble .i just love it bro
thanks bro!
Fantastic footage, Jeff! That looks like it was a great sparring session!
thank you!!!
Gio’s style is what I try to do when I spar, I love it!
If you have good cardio it works great on the long term against more skilled fighters
That was a really strategic light sparing match man. Hard on cardio when fighting a heavier fighter. But you did well and the respect you had for one another is very aspiring
cheers!
Jeff i love your videos dude and i love your style, so well rounded, ive adopted it best i could, and its so fun, thank you
thanks bro!!
Woa, coach Gio sure is a pressure fighter. Great skills and control, and also incredible gas tank. As for you Jeff, I loved your feints, you have a nice little (big) collection of tools! Fantastic video, with great flow from you both.
Thank you!!
I always learn from you jeff❤
Great breakdown as always
thank you!!
What a beautiful and technical spar session.
cheers!!
Great content so much to learn from you guys, would love to see more muay thai content, cheers and thank you.
Thank you!!!
It's really amazing to see that you have unbelievable skill and yet remain so humble about it. I hope I can meet you one day in person my friend. Your videos help me a lot. I know, I'm not the only one who feels this way. Keep up the good work!!
im glad to hear brother, id love to meet one day!
Much respect for a heavier guy having so much control. Excellent sparring session.
Osssss
Thank you for doing the breakdown again! Nice work!
First time I saw you backtracking this much. I think you are a great fighter but Geo definitely seem to have the upper hand here.
Thanks for watching !
Beautiful light sparring, with a lot of technical moves. Everything is run with respect and control, I love that kind of game ! ✨👌
:)
Awesome session Jeff! I love the cheeky cartwheel kicks, and your Saenchai shuffle you snuck in there 😄 Even when you were shelled up, you have a impressively dynamic guard. Would you be able to do a video on how you developed that dynamic guard?
Thanks man! I’ll see what I can do!
That guy is a complete TANK, good sparring session and good that you had a word with him beforehand
cheers!
I've just discovered your channel. You are an awesome fighter 👍.Thank you for sharing your sparrings.
thanks man!!
I think with his size and relentless pressure he gets you. Very respectful sparring , controlled, technical. A lot of respect
Cheers!
Some good stuff here.. love the axe kick. He definitely has some kicks to throw. Great video sir.
Thank you!
Great session man!
thanks Ali!
Love the breakdowns
Thank you!
Nurgle Bless, Rockin' it, Mate. Cheers.
Please make a series where you explain all the muay thai styles or even in mma context. Like what about grapples? Are there different styles of grappling?
4:28 they got that MC Orsen WARNING going, hype af
That was the perfect example of how to fight aggressively but controlled in sparing, beautifull
Oss
Dang, that axe kick for closing distance was such a brilliant move, definetky trying it on my next sparring session
Oss
I really wouldn't recommend it unless you can REALLY control the power of the axe kick and your opponent knows pull moves like that. Its one of those somewhat unexpected things that can escalate a spar war really quick. Kind of like a spinning back fist, or a flying knee, or the rolling thunder Kyokushin kick.
Great work, keep it up!
Thank you!
Another awesome video 👏🏾
thanks man!!
This is what sparring should look like! Great work fellas
Thanks !!
this is how spar should be
learning and grinding
keep it up
:)
fun technical sesh, the best!
thx for watching!
This man just kept flying
This was so good to see. It must have been a blast to film.
:)
Awesome Jeff!
Thank you!
Every time I hit a rut from a bad sparring sesh, I watch one of these and get motivated instantly
:)
Sparring with Jeff looks so fun but fucking scary too, couldn’t imagine having to spar him
Thanks :))
Great video man👌
Thanks man
Something about a fighter with heavy punches that can also launch an axe kick is just soooo terrifying
very good. Partners and sparrings are always intelligent and cool. Very good level and very good spirit.
Nice and inspiring sparring 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
thanks ou!!
This is great. My style is similar to Coach Geo. Where can i see more of his sparring or matches? What is his Instagram tag? Your sparring and breakdowns are always top notch, thank you for your effort and content. 😎🙏
Never heard of muay mat! Definitely need to check it out!
thanks for watching!!
i might have to watch this video at 0.5x speed to study it. thanks for the MMA library!
thanks for watching!
@@MMAShredded do you have any tips on defense and getting better at reading people's movements and not closing eyes when sparring?
Lights out but humble and respect both sides 🔥
Osss
Thanks so much Jeff 👍 you are Super
thank you for watching!
Good sparring session 👍🏽🥊
Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing these great videos!
Very hard to say how a competitive match would go. The coach is very 1 dimensional when committing to his punches i.e stands in one spot, no angles. Your punches are very precise and utilize the angles. The bigger opponent obviously can take you off balance as you set to throw. So, if I were to frame out from covering up, they would push me. Not me push them. That leverage they would create would help push me off to the angle. I hope that makes sense.
Keep up the great work!
Thanks for your observation !!
Dang your gonna get a lot better really fast
:)
That was beautiful to see
Amazing cartwheel kick from the muay mat, saenchai would be proud haha
Cheersss
Love the content. I would love to mix it up on the mats. It looks like so much fun. OSs 🤙❤️💯
thanks!!
awesome rounds!!!
Thank you!
Fantastic sparring with good contact without trying to kill each other.
Cheers!
Great video! 👍
Thank you!
Just goes to show going light and technical can still be intense!
Osss
Loved that sequence with the faked question mark kick into the cross double step low kick at 4:32. Taking that to my next sparring session. YOINK.
osss
Gas tank capacity follow-along workout please!
Great video, as always
:)
Dude is a beast!
yeah!!
More front kicks will help, to keep your opponent from you and spinning back kick to the liver will be helpful
First, great respect and control on both your parts. Nice to see. This was really interesting from a technical perspective due to the clash of styles. The coach's is definitely high risk, high reward. I would be very careful about stereotyping him as just a big block moving forward as he also showed some great speed and agility with his axe kicks and sweeps.
Cheers!
Triple jab to stiff arm jab gets aggressive style off you , helps if you start rotating left at the second jab ,plus damato shuffle if you feel In trouble after ,finish with cross uppercut (don’t forget to leave hand In natural position to get in between the hand defense while uppercutting )🎉
cheers!!
Fun sparring session!
:)
Beautiful sparring match
thanks!!!
great sparring session. I like coach Geo's style and head movement. He also throws a variety of kicks. Curious why there weren't any front kids or side kicks thrown Jeff?
because my front kicks suck haha! will do more next time
Can you do a Muay Mat drills or things one who uses this style of Muay Thai should work on
Also what's humbling about Jeff's vid is the pic of HIM, getting airborned! No ego here
:)
His pace was crazy. Not to mention if he got his hands on you and it went to the ground
Love that he can go from forward intention, heavy punches to an axe kick or spinning back kick. Unexpected and beautifully executed. I would not want to be in a ring with him!
oss
Good job!
Thanks !
Ok so by your description I’ve learned that Muay Mat Style is my worst case scenario I’m a long range sniper so the best way to beat me is coming forward relentlessly taking away my number one weapon which is my range and to stand and bang cause the last I wanna do is exchange bombs head to head cause I care about my brain cells but it was great watching how you dealt with it great content as always Jeff! (I do think the Thai guy would KO you the combination of size power and cardio would be too much you might able to touch him up for a round or two but I think he’d eventually catch you making a mistake finish you with a barrage of punches)
Work on inside defense headmovement blocks know and master your range
thanks for watching!
I’d be rooting for you Jeff! I think you could make it out alive
thanks bro :))
Honestly, whenever I watch these types of guys nothing can change my mind that this is honestly the best way to fight if the rules don't include ground wrestling. If you have the cardio and the toughness to do this style, your just simply a tank that keeps moving forward until the opponent goes down.
cheers!
those axe kicks were beautiful!!! but to answer your question, it would go depending on how well he can eat those kneesand your gas tank from fighting backwards or standing up with him
cheers!
What makes Muay Mat fighters scary? Their heart and grit
This is a great sparring video but Coach Gio will certainly give you a run for your money.
Good stuff
Thanks !!
