  • Complete DIY installation of the Haloview BT7 Backup Camera and monitor on our 2018 Airstream International and Ford F-150.
    Our Voyager Backup Camera was not working and full of water! In this video Jim removes the original Voyager Camera and replaces it with the Haloview BT7 Touch system.
    One great feature of the Haloview BT7 is that it can be powered by either your vehicle’s 12V outlet OR a USB-C connector!
    Haloview contacted us about installing the BT7 Touch backup camera system. Haloview did send us their new Byte Tango 7 Touch camera at no charge, but they had no input as to our video or our review of their camera.

    Do you use a backup camera with your rig?

  • @airstream_wheeler
    @airstream_wheeler 2 місяці тому +1

    I like the ability to communicate from the back of the rig to the driver if cell phones don’t work or walkies aren’t charged. I don’t even know if the ancient one on our rig from the previous owner still works. You have definitely given me ideas 🤔🤔. Nice upgrade! ~Shanna

      We actually had that very scenario since Jim installed the camera. Our walkies batteries were dead and we were able to use it! It worked great. Thanks Shanna! - Michelle

    Good idea with the pool noodles and the ladder. Looks like I'll have to get myself one to use on our ladder. Thanks for the install. We've been really happy with our older version of the Halo view. Looking forward to installing our new touch screen one as well. Safe travels- Kyle and Michelle

    Nice install video Jim, great use of all those camera angles. I’m sure the folks at Halo View will be impressed…you have shown the value of a good backup camera in this episode. Michelle if I ever get any animals again I’ll be seeking you out, wait that would mean I’m too old for motorcycles 😳…never mind 😂☘️. Thanks for the “Must See UA-cam”, J&C from the GST!

    Thanks for the thorough video, and my airstream did not come with a camera, installing this one now. I have made a few trips without a rearview camera, and that creates unnecessary anxiety to say the least~

    Jim have you tried backing your Airstream with Haloview yet. I have a Ford F150 and a 27FBQ and I can’t see around my Airstream very well when backing up. This 1080 resolution camera looks invaluable for seeing where I am going and listening to my wife’s guidance

    • @airstreamer
      @airstreamer  2 місяці тому +2

      Yes. Quite a few times now. It really helps when backing into a campsite. Used it about 90 minutes ago in fact! A couple weeks ago we needed to back into a rural driveway so we could turn around after missing the campground entrance! 🙀 Couldn’t have done it with out a rear view camera. Tip: if you are listening to your partner over the Haloview speaker, roll your windows up since there is a 1/2 second delay in the Haloview’s sound. Same as using a cell phone. - Jim

    I would have suggested small Eternabond tape patches over the original holes. I think attaching the green wire to the Airstream body would have provided an antenna ground plane for better RF transmission. Nice video! I can’t wait to hear how the camera works out on the road. If you tip it down enough to see the rear bumper, can you still see the horizon like with the Voyager?

    • @airstreamer
      @airstreamer  2 місяці тому +2

      That's a great idea! If only I had some Eternabond... Seriously, that is a great tip. Sikaflex would probably have been better than the Captain Trolly's too, but one works with what one has on hand. On the Haloview, the green wire isn't a ground, but a trigger wire. With multi camera setups, the green wire is used to switch cameras. The green wire can be connected to a turn signal so when the turn signal is activated, the monitor will automatically switch to that camera. Hope that made sense. Thanks for watching and commenting. - Jim

    Jim, Is that screen distracting when you're driving? To bad there is not a way to get the camera to display on the infotainment screen on your dashboard.

    • @airstreamer
      @airstreamer  2 місяці тому +2

      I don’t find it distracting at all. I’m enjoying the ability to see behind the Airstream while driving. They make a unit with a screen that attaches to the rear-view mirror, which sounds like a great option. It wasn’t recommended for our rig, however. Thanks for watching and commenting. - Jim
