It's not a NEW powerr; it's a unique application of his powers.He's absorbing and immediately releasing the energy but on a very discrete level. Doind this, ideally he could walk through a laser-based security system and not get detected.

I always find it more interesting when they managed to make a character more powerful not by making their power stronger, but by making them more skilled with it. CotV's plan seems to be like Magneto's plan in the first Fox X-Men movie.

Yes. It’d be great if more writers at Marvel took an interest in science, so they could come up with fun new ways to use all sorts of mutant powers.
The “energy blasts” thing is overdone for characters that would be a lot more interesting if they got more creative with their power, like Storm using her powers to separate oxygen from H2O, allowing her to breathe underwater.
YES. This. It's always more or an impact when they learn to use their inheirent/existing abilities in new ways or in combination with their teammates or things like that. Like i love a good powerup straight up but still

Bishop was always a cool character. I’ve been a fan of his since the 90’s.
To be fair, most Omega level mutants had limits at one point and then they eventually broke those limits.
We shouldn't just assume he is Omega level though. Wait until a writer confirms it but we can safely assume that Bishop is an Alpha level mutant.
He is an Alpha level mutant. I think this issue shows how skilled he is with his powers and versatile. Not an Omega level power display.
But I think people translate it as to being an Omega.. its ridiculous.
Omega is not something u become tho, its genetic, its something u r born with it..
Ernie's ability to cleaverly and jokingly remind us to hit the subscribe and like buttons for the channel is spot on. Lol. I'm glad respect is being paid to Bishop's growing capabilities and powers. Mutants like Bishop, Sebastian Shaw and Maverick having the power to absorb Kinetic energy among other types of energy and to redirect it or absorb it to increase their own powers has always been really cool to me. Seeing their absorption powers in the X-Men cartoons was that much cooler.
What BIshop has done in this issue is a fine-tuned level of his powers... Remember in Xtreme X-Men when Storm had an inhibitor collar on, so, instead of being overt with her weather manipulation powers, seh used her powers to observe the energy flows around the prison castle she was in? it's on that level. BIshop's still pretty powerful, but he has limits to the amount of energy he can absorb before he has to release it.
I haven't read this story yet, but it sounds like he is creatively using his powers in this story. A character like him would also use his power in small, tactical ways.
Right and Bishop finally FINALLY getting the credit he deserves
This is Bishop's second miniseries this year. Plenty shine
Bishop killed more Mutants during Messiah Trilogy than Orchis ever could. He's also a cop who sided with the government pro-registration forces during Civil War. Not to mention he tried to kill Hope Summers when she was a baby. Never really had a redemption arc either.
Bishop also absorbs chronological energy every time he time travels. He also played possum against magneto until he absorbed enough that he overpowered Magneto long enough for them to escape being bound by magnetism so they could fight back.
It's cool to see Bishop beginning to master his powers. My question is would he be able to raise the floor of his physical limits permanently? For example: can he make his body stay at its peak.(he was huge in the 90's. Not so much nowadays)
But it's NOT a "new ability"... it's just the first time they're showing how fine-tuned his control is. He's not doing anything he hasn't done before, only this time instead of just wholesale absorbing energy, he's limiting how much and how quickly he absorbs it.
Edit: Also, I've always been a fan of Bishop's. I just feel they've never given him the nuance he deserves. Like you said, originally he really was a fair bit of the stereotypical "angry black man", except for those few moments when he was more introspective and trying to be more of a mentor like some of the conversations he had with Jubilee...
I consider Bishop to be one of the most effective and efficient Xmen. I think if you took his powers away it wouldn't deter him. But,it won't stop him from finishing what he starts..

Bishop and cable working together is Omega
I actually like him being an Alpha who is so good with their power he can challenge and beat omega level threats. Similar to Professor X and Manifold. Him even noting the calculations made me think of JJK and how skill and efficiency can beat stronger (on paper) opponents.
Bishop and Cable were my favorites as a kid.

Amazingly accurate depiction of Bishop's power. I would know because I had the Very first issue he appeared in..Uncanny X-Men #283...or was it 286? Hey, it was back in '92-'93 so its a bit fuzzy. But this Bishop and Cable team-up is like watching fantasy football for me. I've waited so long.

I'm so glad they're puttin some RESPECT on his name. I've been a fan since the cartoon back in the 90's. He had always been one of the most efficient X Men EVER. And everybody has li.its until they break those limits
Once the Mutants get back together in a essence i wonder if the Children of the Vault will be the main big bad to them. I know they have to take out Orchis , but COV are so OP that they gonna have to be such a major "alliance" between the heroes and villains of the marvel universe.
Your right, what I remember about bishop was that he was angry and impulsive in the 90s. Which I why I was more a fan of storm as an African American.

This is dope. I like when writers explore different facets of a character's power set.
Bishop power is basically the inverse of Gambit
Bishop, melanin should help him absorb all the energy
He'd have to be able to manipulate energy in general, not just his own or just what he is in direct contact with. When he's able to do things like draw energy from anything that's giving off energy, give energy to biological or perhaps even mechanical things etc then we can put him in the Omega level talk.
Lets not confuse skills and power variety with Omega level.. not the same..
What Bishop has shown is skills and versatility in this issue. Being Omega level is a whole different story.
I think is a mutant does something cool and how how amazingly skilled he is with his power, people scream with the name Omega level
It is a clickbait to get fans talking.
Another possibility is the mutant resurrection. It has been stated that the process has a side effect of giving the resurrected a small power boost. Also wonder if we will see some humans turn into COT? Maybe some evolve faster than others.

The energy does not have to be directed toward him. In order for him to absorb it, he can just pull it towards him. Hes also an external.

Creative team forgot the Sidri live in the mansion (Giant Size Nightcrawler). Or did I miss the issue where they left? Because I certainly missed that Danger was there, I guess that happened during her Wolverine arc? (Also this is a great example of too many “per story” changes that go nowhere)
I been waiting since 1991 for Bishop to get bis due...ever since Shattershot issue or even after he kills Styglut, they started diminishing his powers, personality, charisma etc.....Cbristophwr Priest should have had a chance to write him and bring him some of his original swag.. But hopefully this new issue is putting respect on his name

I think I can explain the new powers of Bishop. Since he can use the energy that he obtains to enhance his body then it makes sense he can enhance his eyesight to detect energy, or project his energy out like a barrier that detect other energies.

I always liked bishop but I see what your saying. With the bishop energy detection piece of his powers it actually makes a lot of sense if we consider his history though right? I mean didn’t he track and hunt mutants down in his future? He woulda been pretty helpful detecting high energy producers or maybe even energy weapons in the possession of his target. Very interesting spin on the subtleties of bishops powers.
In the X-men cartoon wolverine could smell trip wire lasers. At some point I think magneto ended up using his powers on a subtle level as well but I don’t recall when, where or can give and example other than being able to detect magnetic items with them being in the same room or close proximity.
Anyway, I think with bishop it’s kind of the continuation of the character(s) being fleshed out a bit more than before so like you say it’s not really a new power and he’s not omega but this is a new application of his power that actually makes a lot of sense.
I find it funny that the children can only think in extremes.

I think it would be a good thing if the Children actually ally themselves with Mutants. I still think Seraphina has a bigger plan that involves Alpha Laura too.
I also enjoy the mental evolution of the characters far better than their powers.

People are sleeping on Alpha level mutants. Lorna, Wolverine, Cyclops, Sebastian Shaw, Emma , Warpath, Apocalypse are just some of them. Definitely need to give them more respect 💯. They honestly make up the bulk of heavy hitters/important mutants..
I thought Emma and Apocalypse were Omega level mutants also.
@@ikevann753nah. both are alpha. Emma and Charles are both Alpha. Their range and overall power isn't a planetary threat without cerebro. Apocalypse isn't a Omega Lvl Mutant but make not mistake he is an omega lvl threat due to his smarts and additional powers granted to him..

Bishop's power has been depicted in a similar to Synch. Their perception of energy being similar to that of a spectrometer. There's an interesting AND unintentional trope that characters of a darker shade, have been leaning towards that trait. Like, older black comic heroes leaning towards lightning based powers. Maybe its a subconscious-association. Energy radiation to brown folk, supposedly, having a higher resistance to solar and radio radiation.

The whole premise of mutants is that their power is tied to their emotions, such as when they activate in early childhood. So given the emotional stakes at play here, with the repeated loss of the utopia, some mutants might be able to dig into their powers more than usual, intoxicated by the universality of their dread. Mutant fight-or-flight mode.
The only thing I don't like about Bishop is he joined Tony Stark's team in Civil War. Cool shirt you're wearing.

Bishop has not been shown to have a limit. The incident in Civil War involving Cyclops was Mister M the reality warping mutant took control of Cyclops and unleashed his full powered optic blat at a steady stream into Bishop forcefully. The source of Cyclops power is endless and it is not because Bishop hit a limit, but rather because Bishop was absorbing so much power so fast that he had to expell some of it. According to Iron man the energy that Cyclops was emitting was equal to so many nuclear bombs or reactors at the same time...something like that. So Bishop has not been truly shown to hit a limit. Bishop can absorb one kind of energy and convert it into any other kind he chooses. Bishop can absorb another mutants power including Cyclops , Storm and Magneto and use it again them while amping their energy and hurting them with it. Bishops also has greater control with anyone's energy than they do.
So, Bishop is pretty similar to the MCU's Monica Rambeau. I wonder if she capable of absorbing kinetic energy as well?

@@afro_princess1671 one absorbs energy and redistributes said energy while the other (so far) can only see the energy. This is the power description Bishop has in this issue and Monica currently has in the MCU.
We both felt and feel the same way about Bishop then and now. I thought it was just me but I see I wasn’t the only one that picked up on the “angry black man” image that “oh Marvel ain’t racist at all” depicted him as. That also speaks on why Bishop not Synch will never be an OLM same way that Storm was not for a long time. You have several telepaths existing in one timeline that all are OLMs..kinda defeats the purpose and is very much moronic…I mean Marvel😊

He doesnt need to be omega he has an amazing backstory and mutant power.
He should work on developing an energy absorption ray or blast; so you can siphon energy from whomever he shot with it. {EDIT} so if he can absorb energy but has to expand it... Bishop can be a black-hole. He needs to team up with Blue Marvel, maybe a he can sci-fi up some upgrades to help Bishop.
