I appreciate how real and normal your house looks. Your dishes don't obsessively match, there's bits of dirt on the floor because you're in the thick of a project. It's really relieving to watch something on UA-cam that feels like real life. Thank you for your video. We're thinking of doing this in our kitchen and this really helped me visualize the result!
thank you for this informative video! great job. I understand that this glazing technique works well with the types of furniture that have frames, curves, engravings etc. where the glaze stays after wiping, but what if I need to glase a simple painted stool that doesn't have those? Its very basic stool, just legs and the top, and I wonder what stays and where when I cover it with the glaze and wipe afterwards. I painted it in nice yellow, but wanted to add some used antique look with dark edges and some dark patina around the joints. But the issue is that using your technique the glaze at the edges, where I do want it to stay, will most probaly get wiped off. What do you think I shall do to make it look like a want? And would the whole thing work if I use watered down dark acrylic paint over the main layer of paint, also acrylic? thank you!
Awesome job!! This totally changed the look of those cabinets. You have a beautiful kitchen!! I'm looking forward to seeing other projects in the future and I want to thank you for taking the time to share your experiences, tips and tricks..
I did my cabinet grey and put glaze I want to make it a bit darker and they are all ready up can I still go back and add glaze after I put the ploy finish
.....and 5 years later we have the product called gel stain. It goes on over any previous finish, rubs on and off, adheres much better than a glaze. Lots of youtube videos on here, check it out.
So I did this about a year ago and then the glaze started fading off does anyone know if I can retouch it with a little pain and glazed over the paint because if you try to put the glaze on top where it's faded it doesn't work
Love how this video n others leave the most important 1st step off. What finish white paint? Flat? Semi gloss? What? I have stained cabinets n have no clue what the 1st color should be nor do I paint it flat or eggshell or semi?
So looks like you went right over after deglossing the melamine surface with the glaze? Most use a primer, then base coat but I guess since you wanted the "white" base look you eliminated those other steps. Makes a hard job a lot easier and a lot less time. Never seen it done like that.
I prefer to use artist oil paint thinned with painting medium. I use burnt Umber. It takes about a week to dry, but you get a perfect finish that stays workable for at least 12 hours. It is a string durable permanent finish with a nice sheen.
*Seriously, I don't understand the logic of wasting so much material? Why not put 1/10th of the glaze of the amount from what your originally put and spread it out WITHOUT the need to putting it on and wiping it off? You may need a tiny bit extra in the ridges and edges - but the logic is, if you start putting just a tiny bit of the glaze to begin with, your end result will be the same as what you did with putting so much glaze and then wiping it off.*
@@franklin9613 what is powder glazing as opposed to that old fashioned glazing? Do you have any examples anywhere that I could see on a white painted piece of furniture?

this is EXACTLY the look I want....EXACTLY!!! THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!
Love that look! Doing some cabinets in a teal green and looking to do the same thing to them. Thanks for the video!

I guess it gives it an Italian Villa look
the cabinets were semy gloss or flat before the glezy?
Thanks for a great video.
Thx for the video, looks pretty easy but the part staying consistent on the darkness looks challenging... But looks awesome!

I did mine but used Minwax dark walnut oil stain and it was much easier and you don't have to worry about using a wet cloth and the water.
What paint did you use?
Looks awesome
Love this look ! This is what I’m going to attempt in my kitchen 😊
Question dot dot dot if it’s on too heavy what is your suggestion for taking the stain off? Mineral spirits??
Nice I like it❤
Is the cabinets oil-based paint or latex based paint?
excellent!

Did u put on aany top final coat to secure it???
Typically yes, you want to put some kind of a polycrylic top coat after the glaze dries
I really like them!, Im going to stain mine darker, though!!😅😅
So I did this about a year ago and then the glaze started fading off does anyone know if I can retouch it with a little pain and glazed over the paint because if you try to put the glaze on top where it's faded it doesn't work
Also I didn't clear coat it and I realized that that's why this has happened
is this cabinet are wood or laminate?
Laminate.
@@scottycarp3462 wow i will do that on my kitchen now thank you.
It looks like dirty cabinets. I think you should've just done the center square part.
How long did this process take
I’ve found using “Unicorn Spit” brand stain and paint.
Thank you so much! Great video!
Powder Glaze is what you want Calista. Not this old fashioned glazing .
Franklin H thanks for the suggestion!

They’re Grrrrrreeeaaaatttttt!
Looks great. I think it needed to be a little darker in the crevices. Looks good though 👌
Beautiful 😍
I hate to ask this, but is it possible to lighten what has been applied after the fact, or remove and reapply??
Found the answer! Oven cleaner! ua-cam.com/video/8Dg9AWKAPAE/v-deo.html
I'm going to do this without taking my cabinets down. Wish me well
Great job. You should try to not have so much movement of the camera though. It makes it difficult to watch with out feeling nauseous.

That's got to be costly.

Too much glaze :(
Powder Glazing is so much easier
Franklin H easier isn’t always better
Oh....Its much better in my opinion. I do this for a living my friend. This is how I take care of my family.

Doesn't get to antiquing until 4 mins in. I wish you tubers would stop wasting our time.
