Trip-Z jet diver, did real well for me last trout troll. Has a adjustable tension trip release so, after it trips or a hard take, you just fight the fish. Much easier than leadcore.
Love the content Cal! I was wondering if you could show some pics or tell us how you have your downrigger set up on your PA Kayak. Thanks again and keep up the great content!
Cal and I run similar setups with Scotty Lake Troller Downriggers on the Hobies. Had to dig pretty deep in the archives to find the setup video: ua-cam.com/video/3JNtwQS47jo/v-deo.html
Cal congrats on 10K subs!! Awesome channel with great content always. As for the weight I started using the plastic sliding sinkers, same principle as the second technique shown in the video. This a lows me to easily add or subtract weight as needed quickly and get back to fishing. I almost always fish with 2-3 other guys in the boat do I don’t always have control of the speed so I need to adjust depth with weight and amount of line out. All lake fisherman need to watch this channel. I started watching last year and it was so much fun trying out different techniques and lures I would see here. It really added a lot to my knowledge base! Thanks for making these videos Cal and team. Keep up the good work!
Hi cal, hey do you have any advice for smoking trout? I hear you mention it all the time in your vids... I can smoke the hell out a salmon, but I’ve never tried trout...do you fillet them or smoke em whole? Flavoring recommendations? I use fig wood for smoking fish, nice and light and smells like churros when it smokes...any tips much appreciated, thanks!
Thank you. Been waiting for this tip. I was wondering if I could use this for lake trolling. 90% of my fishing is sac river in tehama area and this year i will try this on lake Oroville.
Sometimes it not the depth, but the speed change that triggers a bite. If things get slow, I run a zig zag path so that my spoon changes direction and speed, which seems to work very effectively! Keep on rippin a lip!
Great videos as always Cal!..hey I have a question about that trolling weight being horizontal?is there a reason its horizontal and not vertical?I have always had my weight vertical.another question I have is how do you no how fast your trolling in your hobie?..does your fish finder tell you the speed?..I fish out of a Native pedal kayak so I would like to no how fast I'm actually going.I do have a Lowrance elite 4 fish finder but not sure if it tells speed.

Thanks Cal, what do you mean by a "high quality trolling swivel?" Different than a regular swivel? Thanks and great video.
Like a bead chain trolling swivel....

Try useing a 2-2 1/2 " Dipsy Diver with braided line on a level wind reel for a option as well.
