Thanks for the video Cameron! I am now sold on the Brads dodgers. Fished two rods the last few trips with the same setup except a different dodger on the other rod. The Brads killed it all day with the other only getting two fish.
Thank you! After getting skunked last weekend I rewatced your video. I lengthened the line between the weight and dodger and it made all the difference. Thanks for the great content!
Thanks Cameron! Perfect timing on this video. I got frustrated a few weeks ago trying to fish for Kokanee from my kayak (does not have down-riggers). I’m going to try out your methods very soon. These should help solve the line tangle problem that I had.
I just started using led core line and it seems to work quite well it gets my lures down about 25-40 feet depending on how many colors you use.. when I film for my channel around where I live I only have to go down a few colors.. it isn't the most accurate though.. I'm looking forward to purchasing a boat of my own.. so I can put down riggers on it.. I feel as if it will open more content for me in the future
I use a paddle kayak so limiting drag is pretty important otherwise I'm paddling really hard to stay at speed and my action isn't right. Would love to see some videos on kayak fishing techniques.
Thanks for the tips Cameron. I am planning on checking to make sure all of my lead is at least three feet from my dodgers and will start running lines at similar depths with your suggestion of lighter weights and more line. Hadn't thought about the line weight either which may be tricky because I have two rods with braided line and topshot and two rods with mono.
Just starting with a single downrigger and having much frustration. We are still going with both for now. Thanks for the videos, this Sunday afternoon we caught 1 koke and 2 cutthroat on strawberry here in Utah. Smoked em up today using your brine method. Very tasty.
I wish I would have seen this video a few years ago. This is exactly what I needed. I have been using a gang troll setup with weight on the rudder. It works but I'm probably losing more fish than I need to and I can't even tell if the fish is still on until I have it reeled in.
For both trout and Kokanee I run a down rigger out both the left and right side of the boat. Then lead core out the center/rear of the boat over the motor.
I fish from a kayak and have the two rod endorsement. I put one line on the downrigger and have a setup similar to what you use for the other rod... Fish on!
I love to see Ya'll do a Catch N Cook for Kokanee and Trout at Lake Billy Chinook outside of Madras Oregon. And do it right in the main arm of the lake by the island. I'm not so sure about Trout being in that part but there is definitely Trout on the Metolius Arm of the lake, obviously before you enter the actual river, same with the Deschutes Arm. Hope you do it one day.
Late comer to this video, but crossing my fingers for an answer. I'm new to trolling and am wondering why he chooses braid over Fluoro line. Both seem to have an equal lack of stretch, but fluoro has its own sink factor and is a bit thinner than braid. Is it the cost?
Great presentation. And good information. Question: why not use downrigger‘s? Reason I Ask I have relatively new boat no downrigger attached. Don’t wanna go through the hassle of getting the downrigger and all associated parts. Appreciate a response. Thank you
I would like to shop for the same pole you used in this video I can not see the full description or a link on this page. Can you help me with that? I LOVE ALL you Kokanee videos. And the others too.
Addicted Fishing, that location is beautiful. Also meant to say 'I caught only one Kokanee' and lost my down rigger on a stump then shifted over to your type of setup. I enjoy your videos. Thanks
This is very easy to get an exact depth using trigonometry and your line counter reel. You have to estimate or measure your line angle based on your speed and amount of line out. This angle and your length of line allows you to calculate the depth. The equation is sin(angle) X line length = depth. You can test this by using just the sliding weight and going from deep water into shallow and see what depth you drag bottom. But I used this method on downriggers to determine exact depth. You estimate the angle so it is very close to actual.
I us a sethgreen rig ,it's a down rod ,lead core line and 3 leaders and 16 oz of lead .I normally fish in 100 -150 ft of water .But the last leader is about 90 feet
Hey and thank you very much for this video, it‘s exactly what I was searching for. I want to fish for von in lakes as well but there are also perch and Pike-Perch possible, sometimes also Pike. I would like to use 1 to 4 ounz lead (weight) and small lures like Tillins Cobra or Tasmanian Devils which I know from New Zealand where I was there years ago. I like the Okuma Kokanee Black KB-C-762ML (4 - 10 lbs) but I’m not sure, if it is the right one? And could you recommend a rod with trigger handle for trolling with Dipsys or Slide Divers as well? And I should not make any mistakes, because I live in Austria and have to order the rods in the US. Thank you very much in advance for your answer, Felix
Thanks for sharing. Do you stop the motor when you get a bite? If not, you're putting 4x the pressure on the salmon mouth, versus if you stopped the motor to reel in.
VERY GOOD video! Very informative. As for DR or no DR, I am fortunate to have them. I run 2 on my 16 ft Starcraft Supersport... currently. But before that, I ran banana weights when I trolled. I currently use Ugly Stik baitcasting rods, USECA702UL's 7 ft Ultra-Light that I got at Bi-Mart. Love them. Use for both Kokes and trout. 2 questions: 1) You add your slider then you tie on a bead chain or swivel. Which do you prefer? 2) With the Kokanee Killer, do you load up the inside with corn or anything for added scent? Thanks!
Do you troll spin glo and KCP's at the same speed as a wedding ring or hoochie rig? Do you troll slin glo with dodger that swings or a flasher? Thanks!!
Hi Cameron I like your videos I end up buying the same rod in this video question would you use these rods to fish for Sockeye salmon at Baker Lake WA? I fish out of kayak for kokanee Thanks
I fish the exact same same way with the same rod off my kayak. Only difference is I prefer a inline flasher to reduce a little drag and help get deeper with less weight.
Just curious about how you right your KCP ... Looks like you're using a rubber stopper on the line and one bead. Is this correct? Also, which hole on the front of the plug do you run your leader through? Thanks!
I always look for a clear view I can pause on to see the connections for each part of the rigging. Videos most often have hands in the way or they just talk about it and don't show it. I hope Addicted sees this comment. Because they are so great, most of the time. In fact, Cameron did such an excellent job here I am sharing this video. Thanks, Cameron.
Im having a tough time knowing if I'm acheiving the right depth when I'm trolling from my kayak. I feel like weight doesn't take into account drag from a dodger or a gangtroll, which could make it run shallower. Could depth be more accurately determined from line angle and how much line I put out? Thank you and I appreciate your videos!
This is what I do. The line is the hypotenuse (use the line counter) of a right triangle with the legs being depth and distance behind boat. Depth can be determined by: depth = linecounter * sin(angle line hits water). Of course, it's not perfect because I estimate the angle but it's close enough to catch fish. You can also figure out how far behind you the lure is.
@@donboyles4011 this is exactly how I do it. Of course I am an engineer. It works exactly. I have shown guides this method when using downriggers and they are marking fish at a certain depth and they think they are close enough to the fish but actually not. Works exactly.
The dodger and lure setup looks like it would be very effective. In the video you mention that you have 3ft of line between the lead and the dodger. It looks like about 10-12" of line between dodger and lure, is that correct?
Interesting that you only put one piece of corn on the hook sideways, I have always put the corn on lengthways and tried to cover the entire hook. Do you ever use maggots with the corn?
Scotty downriggers and/or flatline. I do recall trying divers back in the 80's...I really don't remember if it even worked or not. But hey, we still used gang trolls (Ford Fenders anyone?) and snubbers back then, so...
I'm just getting into fishing. just curious why you dont like gangs trolls,is it just because of the drag? Also what's wrong with snubbers? I just bought a couple per the guy at the tackle stores recommendation. Thanks
@@jakeb1778 Just a drag, literally. Takes all the fight out of it. I saw a couple guys using trolls and snubbers and doing just fine last week. If you use long glass or very soft graphite poles, you don't really need a snubber. The rods do that job for ya. So, yes, they absolutely WILL catch fish. But a dodger and hoochie do too, and do so with less mess and drag. Look at the Lamiglass Classic Glass Kokanee or the Okuma Kokanee (Cameron) Black rods. Just got a Black rod, used it last week, loved it. Mebbe even a little more than the Classic Glass. Edit: Can use the mylar flash trolls, still a tangle hazard but massively reduce the drag.

I need a video on tips for fishing WITH down riggers
Great step by step. I have downriggers. I think its a better fight-no lead to slow the rod down. Thanks for the video.
Good information well articulated. Thank you
Hi there, what brand Rod is that and what model is it?
8ft Tica ultra light Kokanee rod. Part # KLEB8OUL2 work good. A bit soft for much more than 2oz of lead, but good for downriver and less weight.
Well done. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
My kokanee black rod is yellow and says eagle claw lol. Saving up for the kokanee black rod although I do really like the eagle claw.
Do you have a link for those sliders, that you hook your weight to? Great video! Just what I needed to see!
