    Great instructional video Kyle. This winter I am focusing on carving bears…learning. I take photos with my phone at moments along the videos then I can reference them in my studio, that has been really helpful. Upstate NY? Me too, Niskayuna and a camp in the Sacandaga southern ADK. Went to my woods yesterday to harvest a white pine for bear training work. No excuses. I am investing in non-gas saws so I can stay inside my heated studio although our winter so far is MIA…. Have a sthil 140 corded with a dime bar on order, using my dewalt 16” battery saw for block in now but not thrilled with it, it weights in at 14 plus lbs! What corded or battery saw would you recommend for blocking out pine, what bar and chain also? Just subscribed, keep up the good work, thanks.

      Thank you hope it helps . I grew up on the Sacandaga!
      I like my msa 200 and 220 just running stock bars on them .

    Great tutorials. What is your guideline for proportioning the shout, chin, and lower part of the face? Your proportions look good. I get the first cuts reasonably well, but figuring out the wedge below the chin and face are challenging. thanks.

    • @KyleHallwoodworker
      @KyleHallwoodworker  5 років тому

      I will be honest I haven’t really thought about it . I just practiced and made different cuts till I got the look I wanted .... perhaps a more detailed video will be in the future

      @@KyleHallwoodworker Thanks for your reply. Sometimes I guess correctly - and other times - fancy firewood. Maybe like you said - just practice until I get the look I want - I need to make more bears. Time is a factor - this isn't my day job. I've appreciated your videos .

    • @KyleHallwoodworker
      @KyleHallwoodworker  5 років тому

      Yeah practice is key . This is not my full time job either . Lol wish it was . Have a day job plus this .

    Looking good! I’m always interested in what other carvers do in the maintenance side with their tools. What method do you use to sharpen your blades etc. do you have a maintenance routine ? That type of video would be appreciated.

    • @KyleHallwoodworker
      @KyleHallwoodworker  6 років тому

      Denny Rager I usually just hand sharpen my saws . I try to blow them after carving . Every now and then I clean the carb and change the filters
