MATCHBOX Restoration 13b Bedford Wrecker 1958

- Once again, a small and unassuming model from the early years of Matchbox. The colour sheme of mustard brown and cherry red was a popular choice of colours for several other models made at around the same time. The subtle differences between the earlier 13a model of the same vehicle are easy to miss.
I thought that I could make two complete models out of three but it was only when I started to compare them to each other that I realised that it was not to be. At first sight the model 13a looks the same as the 13b but it soon became apparent that they were two completely different models.
This model was fun to do and looks really 'cute' now that it is finished. Another one off the list!

It really is a cute little truck
I have a fondness for the 50s models.
Great job Marty as usual
Marty, your work is superb and a rare and shining glimmer of hope in an ever hateful world. Thank you!
Thanks Andy and yeah, the world is a bit messed up at the moment :(
I always love your spraybooth newspaper headlines lol
i read them too lol
They are good lol
Same! Marty is brilliant
We have the same sort of paper in the UK called the daily sport, I always like to know where Elvis is today!
Add to that the "Big Cock" can...
Nice job marty
I love the simpler models from this Era. I want to get a 13a it's so cute! Great video you did another lovely job!
Good job as usual. Keep it up.
Great to see another great episode of another great old model glad you are back on doing the videos from maryland usa
Wow looks amazing Marty fantastic Restoration well done 👍
Looks phenomenal a really impressive transformation
"I hope it doesnt kill me"
Dont worry Marty, it will just make you stronger
Yeah....NO.
thanks Marty, enjoy these very simple ones as much as any.
Always a good day when you give us a new restoration.
I like it ❤
Great video, as always Marty.
The model looked amazing when you had finished restoring it ❤.
Hi Marty! I have thick fingers myself, so handling those little pieces would be a real lesson in patience for me. I always enjoy your projects,
Great video Marty. I am a little disappointed in the color of the body. But I guess the dried up paint jars led to the problem! Keep at it, Marty.
Always a good day when Marty posted a video
I’ve got an inkling that it’s Kevin’s handy work in play with the empty paint pots! 😉
Coming in with a second comment Marty just to let you know I just shared your video with three people who I think will enjoy. You are my favourite channel on UA-cam and I’m happy to do my part to keep you going.
Funny that you have less free time now that you’re retired.
Thank you for allowing us to virtually come to your house and watch you work.
Marty, I always enjoy your videos. I like watching every step and process. It's like seeing it for the first time with each model. It never gets old. Occasionally on a very few of your restoration videos, you have omitted some of the steps. As a viewer I felt robbed lol. You are the best at what you do! I will never miss a video. God bless you in all you do! (In my best Australian accent) Cheers mate!
(I'm happy with that!)
BEAUTIFUL!
It dosent matter how big it is ,it is still a beutyful litteratur model❤
Very nice restoration! The finishing of the pin ends looks great.
I´m everytime happy if I see a new video is online. 🙂 I feel relaxed when I look at it.
Marty its never boring and when these models came out Im sure a kid was very please to have gotten one.
I saw a Dinky Dublo Bedford Tipper Truck in a Charity Shop here in the UK, but I had no money on me and was running late. Went back the next day and it was gone. Bugger!! What a disappointment that was. Bugger again!!
Keep up the good work, Marty, You made my Sunday morning worthwhile.
Great to see another makeover video.
I found 13 different models at an op shop last week and was surprised at how small they actually were.
Marty. You are correct. Complications don’t make the Matchbox toy. Simplicity has its own beauty and you did a fine job getting that 13A Wrecker back to its original look. Some collector in the future will be very happy to have your handy work in his Matchbox collection.
Nice drink can at about 3:18. 😉
Sunday afternoon and a new Marty video….. fantastic!! Thanks Marty 👍
Nice job. I like watching all years being restored
Love your tv lol
good job! beautiful little model.
How does the paint stick so well to the bare metal? Can never coat it this well with my water based acrylic paints without priming it.
Nice job, not sure about the body colour, but still looks good
Good video thanks lee
I’ve still got mine!
*Kia ora (hello) Marty, the little truck that could.... came back to life... with a new hook and a fab paintjob. Now, as for your hands... well you do mention them often in your vids, so one must comment back to you... yep one can tell that you do manual work around your new property.. but borrow/steal some of Julie's hand creams... or pop into your local mall and see one of them lovely ladies to do the soak & clean them fingers/hands and also cut & polish them fingernails all before your next vid. 🙂.nz*
I will wager you Marty won't do the mall for a pedicure & soak.😊
@@petergomez7490 *oh yep I know.... but it's just a bit of banter between a kiwi & a aussie... 🙂.*
Marty I wonder how electrolysis would compare to paint remover as far as mess? I restore cast iron with electrolysis and it is a remarkable process. It removes paint and rust very easily. I've even removed concrete residue but I didn't know what to expect. lol The same size container would work as long as the model is submerged.
I stay up on the news by reading your spray booth. I had feared a kitten uprising. Biden has a special breed of demikitten at the Whitehouse for use this fall. This cat believes it should be fed, taken to the vet, and housed all at your expense. It wants a better life by not having to work. I thought we were married for a long time, it took all my money and wouldn't let me touch it.
I have this one in red
Tow Truck, Wrecker, Recovery Vehicle.....We share the English language, but use it differently.
Marty if you ever decide to sell the original I’m your guy lol
Banned in America for paintstripping, but likely still in their plastic "cheese" and candy.....
Sunday morning in the UK and a make over thanks Marty
Ha ha ha ha ha! Great whiteboard commentary… Things to do… “File for Divorce” (marked out) then “Buy Flowers” Marty you’re a freakin’ genius on delivery.
The Easter eggs are great. And all the fun stuff with Kevin as well
Where do I sign the "Save Fluffy" petition? Keep doing the early, simple matchbox models. They have much more charm then the newer, plasticky ones (like me, also a product of the 50s 😂)
You are a real man of your hands, Marty. You should treat yourself and get the old money-makers a manicure. Just don't be offended if the manicure lady double gloves before tucking in. Or if she runs away screaming.
As a regular follower of MMM we over look a hard working mans hand and are here for his extremely talented work.
A tub of O'Keeffe's 'working hands' cream will revitalise any hands. Someone gave me a tub and I was sceptical, but really alters the skin texture. I had 'gardener's hands' and it spoiled my work tailoring, with all the broken skin. It's really good stuff.
No, civilians cannot purchase assault rifles.
Experts like T. Logan Metesh, a firearms historian, tell TIME that historically, an assault rifle was defined as a fully-automatic fire rifle and that today, an assault rifle is defined as a “firearm capable of selective-fire,” which he says precludes the AR-15 from being in that category.
The rifle was marketed to civilians as a hunting and sporting rifle by Colt.
The M16, a military rifle used during the Vietnam War, was adapted from the AR-15. But the AR-15 differs in that it was marketed as a semi-automatic rifle, whereas the M16 can also be a fully-automatic weapon and release a burst fire.
38 US states now allow open carry without a permit.
Love the beard! And the restoration.
marty, i could watch you cover any project. such a great personality. always a joy to see an upload from you.
Yeah here in America the thing that kills our kids the most, doesn't get ban .. anyway thanks for sharing Marty
When I was growing up in the 1960's, I used get secondhand Matchbox cars, or hand-downs from my brother, so most of my cars look like the ones that you are rebuilding! Your videos really bring back memories of my childhood! 😃 (BTW - I used to know someone who helped Matchbox set up their factory in Southend in Essex! 😮)
I think Kevin might be dipping into your paints when you're not around.😉
Exactly what I was thinking. I was expecting some brown and yellow graffiti.
It really doesn't matter whether the model is simple or complex, it's enjoyable to hear your joy and passion and to appreciate your australian sense of humour. I especially love the silly tabloid newspapers in your spray booth.
It turned out fantastic. Kind of miss that little Keven rascal lol 🌴👍👍😎🌴
The simplicity is part of the charm of these early models. Hope you’re safe from the fires over your way. 👍🏻🇦🇺
Because I was thinking about similar dates with real cars recently, I have to point out: When that "Matchbox Originals" model came out in 1992, the original 13A from 1955 was about 37 years old. The "Matchbox Originals" model itself is now 32 years old, making it nearly as old now as the original was then!
I do not know how time does this, but I will blame Kevin.
The condition of your Mr. Hobby paints make me wonder what Kevin has been up to. 😊 I always enjoy your videos!!
Hi Marty I heard a good one the other day.........I bought my wife a car for Christmas but she didn't like it. She said I need something that will go from zero to 160 in about 2 seconds. So I bought her some bathroom scales.😂😂🤣🤣
Very nice work as always Marty. Never seen that Energy Drink before,🤣 we have the original, Red Bull.
Marty great to see you back!!!! Been missing your videos!!!! And Kevin !!!!😂
Great makeover as always Marty. One question... I know why you couldn't do a double makeover of an a and b version, but why didn't you makeover both b versions which would have made sense to only mix the paint up once?
Funny how meny commented about Marty`s hands, doing a lot of manual work my nails take a lot of abuse and look a lot worse than his, Marty from memory is 2 hours away from the closest town and in Australia think if you use hand cream as a guy over there you would not half have a ribbing from your mates and if you had your nales done you mates would disowne you, definitely would here in North Wales and not sure what it has to do with his amazing restoration skills and fun presenting stile, love the videos
Marty, you really lost me on the assault rifle comment. I don't know if you're happy your Country lost the right to bear arms, but it's not the weapon that kills, it's the hard heart. Cain killed Abel with a rock, so. However, it doesn't make sense that our Country banned good paint stripper either. There are foolish people in charge of things around here.

Love your videos, but here in the US we cannot buy any assault rifles. As our government banned the purchase of automatic rifles for decades, only with a special license that you can buy anything automatic. A AR in their platforms isn't a assault rifle, it is a simple semi automatic gas fed firearm.
The empty paint bottles. Couldn’t it be one of Kevin’s pranks?
Always love your videos Marty. No matter if it is simple or complex. I always enjoy watching the solutions you come up with to overcome problems you come across during your makeovers. After seeing some of the same models you have made over in person, i am amazed that your videos make the models appear much larger than they really are. Keep up the great work sir.
I enjoy what you give us Marty. Even the funny paper headlines. Talking about kittens how is your cat? Would like to see more of Smudge here and there.
Hey marty, have you see matchbox morris minor saloon it is 70 years of matchbox diecast
i agree always love the spraybooth newspapers. and of course the kevin bits. ankrher beautifully done resto. hope all is well sir
Marty you can't but an assault rifle in America that has never been possible since the 1920's
I loved this simple video. It was nice to see Kevin. I have been wondering where he has been. Traveling to parts unknown?
A very nice little model. Elegant simplicity. 😎👍
Great restoration as always Marty! I do find it strange they didn't put headlights on the model but it is what it is.
Hi Marty. Beautiful work. 🥐👍☕💯👋😎
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!!!! Love ya Buddy!!!!!
I remember as a child, wishing that these toys had more details and looked “more real”. Now, they do and I find myself looking back at those old models and enjoying the “charm” and “simplicity”. Truly, I love watching you restore these old models! Keep them coming! I never get bored of a “Marty” video and I think I speak for everyone when I say,”we’re happy with that!” Cheers from Canada!
I would of chose a different color. Maybe two colors on the body.
Marty were always looking forward to your videos!
Another very nice model Marty, well done.
Simple, but classic! Another wonderful episode!
Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
I actually was the first one to watch the video
No, the average American can't easily buy the mythical "assault rifle" (ie. full automatic). We can buy the semi-automatic sporting rifle, like the classic AR15.
Not much difference at the end of the day. Just fire rate. It’s a weapon of war
Thanks Marty!!!!! Very well done!!!
I want one, I want them all. I want to be eight years old.
Basic model but still a good restoration job
Marty the small simple ones are my favourites great job keep well
Come on Marty, we all know that its Kevin who’s using your paints up! 😂 and its ironic isn’t it now you have retired you have less time to do your hobby! It should be the other way around!
On the next episode, we'll see the headline on the newspaper showing, "KOALA ARRESTED. BLAMED FOR PAINT SHORTAGE"
I just got over cancer last year. Seriously, I do not believe the paint stripper gave me cancer, but here is my story. Marty, you got me started in the Matchbox restoration hobby a few years ago. I looked up.the paint stripper you used and found it was too dangerous to sell at major hardware chains in the U.S., but I found some with the main chemical that is on your paint stripper at an obscure hardware store. I got cancer about a year into the hobby, and it makes me wonder. Cancer is a mystery and many factors may interact to cause it, but what an unusual coincidence. By the way, we are the same age, and I love your videos.
That wide computer screen is really cool. Haven't seen that before. Your video skills are amazing. Greetings from Sweden. 🇸🇪
Another great video Marty !
Great video Marty!
Came out a treat Cheers Graham
Hi Marty, i got three Matchbox Cars for you. How can i reach you?
Is there anyone who can tell me how i can get to Marty?
Thank You for Posting.
Your color looks great
