- A new project that inspired me to do a new project. Doing up this concrete truck reminded me of a small concreting job that I had been meaning to do for quite sometime. Whilst I wait for the paint to dry I instruct Kevin on the basics of how to concrete.
At least one of the projects turned out OK!
Hope you like it.

Good to see you again! And even better seeing Kevin up to his tricks😂
Thanks for sticking around Jeremy! - Glad you like the Kevin skits..
Marty, I can't wait until the next one! You're the best Matchbox restorer on UA-cam, and I'm always happy to see you posting again!
Wow, thanks!
@@MartysMatchboxMakeovers You're most welcome! Thanks for the hours of entertainment you've provided!
S&P for Stothert and Pitt Ltd - Engineering, Crane manufacturer, road rollers and concrete mixers from Bath, Somerset. Ceased manufacturing in 1989. Great restoration, Marty, it looks fresh out of the Lesney factory.
Watching your video with a sticky plaster on my right thumb also, sign of the working man. Your fingers have become as much a character as Kevin.
I'm really happy you're well and happy for these new videos. They are so satisfying and calming to watch.
As always, my friend... brilliant work!
AND I have to say that you drive into town looks alot like my dream drive... no asphalt, no people, no nonsense. You live in what I imagine Heaven to be like.
Always great to watch you ply your skills to bring another model back to near perfect condition. 😃
Many thanks!
Had couple of those as a kid. Matchbox should have never folded. Remember in the 70s you could get Easter eggs with matchbox cars inside they were the best
Marty, concrete trucks from that era had a separate diesel motor to spin the drum in whatever direction was required. This allowed the truck motor to devote full power to moving the machine. Nowadays, concrete trucks have only one diesel motor that powers everything on the rig.
I work for a company that builds concrete mixers now, and it's amazing how much the old vehicle looks the same as current mixers.
I do believe I have one of these in my old collection. Probably same condition. Nice.
Nice restoration, details and paint job 👌 👍
Good to see you're back at it, looking forward to more videos in the near future.
The model looks brand new. I was always impressed with the detail of Matchbox models and how realistic they looked. This was a great tutorial and I look forward to your next project.
The drive to the store part, need to get some mates dressed up as MAD MAX baddies waving MMM flags and chasing you in rear view mirror LOL!
Another great job! Kevin makes us always laugh!❤
That really cleaned up well. Just looking at it at first I would not have guessed it was in as good a condition to start with. You brought it to a new level too.
Great restoration on the Foden Concrete mixer Marty, colour came out nice 👍.... Kevin being useful as usual 😮..... 😂😂😂
You've been missed, so good to see you. I always get a bit worried when you go a long time between posts, for fear Kevin's done you in somehow with one of his nasty little tricks, hahaha!! Greets from midwestern U.S.
I don’t see how you’ve tolerated that bear for so long! 😀
Real Foden trucks wouldn't have had a chrome grill anyway. Nice restoration keep them coming.
S&P stands for the maker of the mixer Stother&Pitt
One of those concrete mixer barrels is used in the manufacture of chocolate at the Mars chocolate factory in Slough. It is vertically mounted at the end of the Malteser line where it is filled with continuously rotating/moving Malteser pips, polishing each other by rubbing against other Maltesers - prior to boxing and wrapping.
What a great comment Dean, thankyou for your insight.
This the the video where you set up your star link were really good. I think you should make more random around the house videos, do something you already were going to do and monetize it lol I'll watch
Marty, the truck looks great. Such an iconic little thing. Everyone wanted to roll that around as a child. The beard is a great look. Looking forward to more makeovers
Fantastic job Marty. We all look old as we age.
Getting old sucks, but it beats the alternative. 😊
@@lancerevell5979 100% true
The transition at 16:34 was very nicely done!
That would have had a donkey engine to drive the drum. That is a Foden S24 by the looks. Great work mate
amazing resto as always. Kevin strikes again lol
Hi Marrty, Stewart here from France. Really enjoy your down-to-earth videos. I did an apprentiship with ERF trucks, where the F stood for Foden as one of the brothers,Edwin Richard Foden split from Fodens in 1933. Both were situated in Sandbach, Cheshire. Keep up the good work.
That wasn't in terrible shape but it looked brand new by the end. That Kevin's being a right drongo mate.
Thanks for commenting hope you liked it!
Nice to see how you restore one of my childhood matchbox thx
Very good refurbishment
"Kevin Woz Ere" 😆
Again, an immaculately restored model, one that I remember getting on a long-ago Christmas Day.
I also remember back in the days of building model kits, cracking open that little jar of paint to find it had dried up and I needed a trip to the hobby store. Ah, youth.
All the best; until next time look after your good lady wife, and try to keep Kevin out of mischief! 👍
Magnificent work Marty! Love the channel
Finally! Marty, we were starting to worry about you... Great to see some views of your area. Some of us far-flung folks have no idea what your part of that country looks like.
don't worry, I just don't have as much time these days to upload regular content. I will try harder. Glad you liked the outside shots too!
Westernkind is amazing and loves preserving their culture all over the world!
There are some weired things happened down under... Aliens that took over a trailer Park! Awesome Restoration.
Impressive puppetry in the wheelbarrow scene.
Great job as always Marty. And Kevin is back to his usual antics after along spell.
Allways a pleasure … so relaxing to watch …. Keep it up Marty … grtz from Holland 🇳🇱
Many thanks grtz!
PERFECT TIMING Marty! Im JUST settling in with a mug of warm milo, a cpl of Tim Tams and i discover a new vid from you! A new addition to the family was born some hours ago, and now this . This sunday has been a great one indeed.
Congratulations to you for your new addition to your family!
You make the concrete, and the rest of the video I was asking myself what Kevin was going to do with it😂😂😂😂😂😂
I was worried you were going to give Kevin a set of concrete boots at the end… 😆
Love the look of the 1968 matchbox 21d Foden concrete truck, now it's ready to go to a construction site, great job with this project and keep it up.
Great work as always!!!!
I was almost sure Kevin would be stuck in the concrete. Luckily he had only vandalized it, that little hooligan.
Glad that see you are doing OK, in spite of the crushed thumb. Love your content. Stay well.
Thanks John, I shall try!
Great lorry restoration.
Great makeover Marty.
Those Fodens were.a.familiar sight on our roads once upon a time.but sadly all.gone .
Loved.the D.IY feature with the concrete.slab, I know how to do it properly now.
All the best
David.
Thanks for watching David.
A new marty's video for a nice sunday !
Great day to relax, thanks for watching!
Hi Marty, I've been quietly watching your makeovers for some time now and enjoy them immensely. One thing I noted is you use the Tamiya thinner for cleaning the airbrush. IPA (IsoPropyl Alcoholl) works extremely well as a thinner for Tamiya paints so great for cleaning your airbrush and bought from the right source is far cheaper than the thinner.
I can't say if it will play well with Mr Color or similar acrylic brands (for example, Vallejo doesn't like it). Cheers and keep up the great and interesting work!
Yay!!!! Another Marty to the rescue!!!! It's been too long brother!!!!
Sorry for the delay in uploading but have been exceedingly busy last month. - Hope it is worth the wait :)
@@MartysMatchboxMakeovers- It was absolutely worth the wait!!!! Although, I was hoping for an appearance by none other than Kevin himself. Oh well. I hope that he's doing well!!!! And the Mrs.!!!!
Well Kevin, You may not have made it to Hollywood's Chinese Theater, But at least your still famous in Australia and on UA-cam, and Nice work on the Foden Concrete Truck Marty, keep up the good work.
Lol Love the Kevin skits!
Nice touch with the anatomically appropriate paw prints. 😁👍👍
🐨WE LOVE KEVIN!🐨
Wow I've got one of these! Had it over 40 years.
Dear Sir,
I always enjoy the makeover of a model i own, like this one. Well, now ti's me son's, bequeathed in life as a family heirloom, but many a year before, i played with it a lot, so it's in the same state as the subject at the beginning of the video.
And, of course tis always a great advance in me knowledge on Australian zeitgeist to see the painting cabinet news.
Cheers from Brazil!
Nothing wrong with some playwear as long as it's not abused. Toys are only alive if they are loved.
You are welcome, so glad to hear from someone in Brazil - You might be the only one watching from there!!
Very nice, Marty. Kevin is still full of mischief I see.
Great restauration. I’ve owned many Matchboxes in years past, but I’ve never seen that concrete mixer with the worm gear. What a treat it would have been to play with one of those. And Kevin should be made to emmory paper his name out of the concrete slab!
Your eye for matching colors is better than the factory I think. Even Matchbox had slight variations in their batches.
They were toy cars back then, not antique collectables.
Yes, sometimes I have noticed different shades of colour on same models.
awesome i sent Time Rider two of these ones both mixers were fine…im hoping to get rid of my 500 matchbox some need repairs etc ❤
19:28 Not bad for 89 years old. 😁
Looks like Kevin nailed it - literally! 8^) Concrete truck looks great, Cheers.
You could try making a cast of an original barrel and then casting a bunch of new ones for the fleet of trucks
Just beautiful, great to see you. I enjoy your videos. Thank You
Sorry about your thumb. Your hands are evidence of hard work .
Yeah, they are usually damaged in one way or another, it's normal wear and tear for me at the moment.
To prevent lids from sticking, when I put them back on I tighten up then back off a fraction. Then to get it off, tighten up again and it will break the seal.
*KEVIN... keep on being YOU. 🙂 Marty will forgive you yet again... just like he always does.... year in & year out. 🙂NZ*
I saw that coming from a mile away. Kevin has no chill. He always lets his intrusive thoughts win.
Oh gee Marty, this one is a real beauty. Wonderful!
Good to see that you are still doing makeovers.
A very lovely restoration on a great casting. I've always been more interested in cars than commercial vehicles, but I absolutely loved the look of this Foden cab as a child.
I'd also like to mention your excellent video editing skills, which don't go un-noticed - the perfect placement of the cab and chassis before and after primer, and the fade from the square concrete base to the square of kitchen paper on your workbench etc - they're like a little Easter egg for us viewers to find
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi Marty, I drove a concrete mixer here in the States. Not sure what all the levers are on that model, but ours had two levers in the back. One was to control the RPM of the diesel engine and the other was to control the RPM of the drum. The drum (looking at it from the back of the truck, spins clockwise to mix the concrete and counter clockwise to dispatch the concrete) There are two fins inside the drum that run from the front of the drum to the rear of the drum in a corkscrew pattern and they are known as a Archimedean screw. We also had two toggle switches, one controlled the hydraulic cylinder on the chute to raise it up and down and the other controlled a lock to lock the chute in position. All of our mixes were hydraulic and the pump was attached to the front of the diesel engine crankshaft. The hydraulic motor was coupled directly to the front of the drum. Not sure were the water tank is on your model, but all of our mixers had 300 gallon water tanks, as the company I worked for dry dispatched the concrete and it was mixed on site per the customers request. Plus the water was used to rinse in the drum and wash off the chutes after delivering the concrete. Another great make over Marty and thank you for sharing the video. Cheers, Rich S.
The hydraulic drive for the barrel is the biggest change I've noticed in newer Agitators. The Australian name for this truck type. The earlier types had the box behind the cab, like the Matchbox video version. This housed a straight 6 car engine, to drive the barrel. With the hydraulic motor now used, and the chassis generally kept the same length on the 4 axle twin steer, there is a big air gap between the cab and the barrel. 4 axle agitators are the most common version. The Mack Trident series conventional is popular, and unlike the Australian car industry, they are still locally manufactured. Along with Volvo, Kenworth, and Iveco (International).
looks nice and fresh again. :) good thing the drum didn't crumble apart, I see more and more models of this one, and the previous version, where the edges of the drum become brittle. they finally succumb to sunlight, I think.
and Kevin pulled another Kevin... I somehow knew he couldn't leave the smooth surface alone. XD
but here is your problem, sometimes these "artifical stone cast" things aren't even underneath and would topple anyway. :P good thing parrots can climb, they won't mind as much. ;)
You are correct: Most trucks like that have a separate engine to spin the drum. They also have a reversible transmission that allows the drum to spin in one direction to mix/transport and the opposite direction to unload.
A dollop of wet cement with no aggregates in it will allow you to stop the wobble of your bird feeder, Marty. Great restoration!🫡👍🍁
When it comes to 3D printed grain, some people have used Acetone to lightly melt the surface & sand objects. Otherwise, using one of those resin printers where produced objects are subjected to ultraviolet light to cure the print is your next best option. Very precise as it uses laser light.
That little stub in that part is used to keep the parts from sinking too far inside & getting permanently stuck when they are stacked. Plastic cups have little tabs in the bottom for this same reason.
@27:29 Using a floor polish product as a gloss coat, and to make clear parts absolutely clear, is an old-school trick many scale modelers use, too. I use Future from SC Johnson for dipping canopies and other clear bits; for gloss-coating before applying decals (the acrylic gloss coat fills the tiny pits in a surface, which trap air and cause silvering on clear decal film); as a sealer when weathering a model; and as a final gloss coat on my toy soldiers. Future was discontinued a couple years ago, but Quick Shine looks like it works the same.
These household products are cheaper by volume than gloss coat products from the model suppliers like Tamiya, Vallejo, AK, etc.
I've tried Quick Shine but it failed, just welled up miserably. Rug Doctor works better for me.
Great comment Baron, thanks for taking the time. Good info too.
Looks fantastic. Great seeing you again.
Just another perfect restoration (again) 😀👌
You have the face of an angel and the hands of a 1920s coal miner.
Driving the backroads of Australia is awesomely beautiful. Thank you for including the beautiful scenery.
been watching some yester year vids whilst having chemo, worried seeing its been a while good to see you about.
As usual a very good work with the little model. And I also like the newspaper you use for the painting. We do not have this kind of paper in Sweden but they are fun to lock at.👍👍
Marty, I might have a really cool tanker truck for you to restore.
Excellent video Marty. Pity you didn't put on some RMC decals would have looked epic'
It was great watching you again, brother.
It was amazing after doing one of these myself, how many details are not seen under the original paint. Very nice restoration Marty.
Just what I needed! a Marty's delight! Thank you :)
Hi David, I hope it was worth the wait - I've been very busy just lately!
Marty that Araldite is a very bold definitive move! Wouldn't just a little touch of silicon be better!
Yellow plastic parts and the yellow cabin is matching! That’s much better than the original!
The model turned out looking nice and shiny! I can't believe Kevin would do that to your concrete, though!
Great tip for cleaning the airbrush Marty, thanks for that 👍
That darn, Kevin! LOL....
My wife enjoys your videos too. And she mentioned that you look GREAT!
Thank you for your entertainment and the chance for the two of us to get together and enjoy your work!
From:
Dean and Annie
Absolutely cracking build as always. Beautiful colours! Damn shame about the concrete. Lol!
Hi Marty. Have you seen Paul the Restorers channel. He makes the bits he needs for restorations using silicone moulds and casting resin. You could do the same thing for the cement mixers. Just use the best one to make the mould.
Always enjoy your videos. The driving and the concrete mini-slab segments were fun additions to the usual.
Superb restoration! One of Matchbox best castings. Intricate, fine details, and different on each side of the model shows Matchbox mastery of the diecasting process by this time.
Yes, I do love the hidden details on these toys!
Hi Marty, can you do a what I have and what I need video on the classic matchbox vehicles sometime.
Unfortunately Marty most 😔 of us will be looking old🥴
