In this moment, as I was smiling happily while embracing someone precious to me, I sent up a prayer. As I gently hugged Kei, I silently wished to myself that I would become a young student who would vow to take care of her
I hope Ayanokoji do ended up being with someone like kei or ichinose who he see as potential lover that he initially sees as a tool but ended up breaking that perception, and like Horikita who he said he doesn't see as friend but ended up declaring that she is her friend. Horikita suit more of friend than a lover in my opinion.

Here some details from novel;
Matsushita is smart enough to notice that Ayanokoji was the mastermind. When he answered the last question on the arithmetic exam, corrected Hirata, and many other events. Most likely if Horikita wasn't in that class, koji would just use Matsushita. One of the details that was skipped in the anime was that Matsushita could answer up to the 7th question in the arithmetic exam (which is much above the average). She does not reveal her talents either.
Ayanokoji does not like to attract Matsushita's attention and says that he uses 80% of his power. Of course thats a lie. She also follows Ayanokoji all day, unlike what is shown in the anime. Even though Koji is aware of this, he meets with the School Director. Even though the principal Tsukishiro notices her, he remains unresponsive. After talking to the Tsukishiro, Ayano pretends to turn from an intersection, and as soon as Matsushita turns from that intersection, he catches her and leans her against the wall and asks "What do you want from me?" and the conversation shown in the anime takes place.
Another quickly skipped scene in the anime; Ichinose feels deeply regretful and depressed after losing to Ryuen in the last special exam. She cried for a long time in the rain and "randomly" meets Ayanokoji. After Ayanokoji takes her to his room, their conversation lasts longer than shown in the anime.

About the "kei walks past hiyori scene" which you found messed up: in fact, he called her there even earlier so when she arrived, kiyo and hiyori were still talking and she had to watch that unfold 😂😭
The tsukishiro line was badly adapted ayano said

That's exactly the same. The ayanokoji saying is no one will reach the same level as him in a dept known as the white room.. the anime just changed the dialogue to straight point of the whole conversation they had.

@@Hansen_0101 I know we novel readers bitch about a lot and when I’m watching anime where source material elitist complain I get annoyed too.
However this scene was genuinely misconstrued to shorten the focus here.
Matshuhita that girl we actually get POV for an entire chapter. She actually followed Ayanokoji after talking with Sato and she even admits that just like Ayano she doesn’t want to put effort and show her real talent.
She basically wants to push Ayano to do the work for her 😂. So she gets the cards ready in her sleeve ( the mental math final answer as an opener and the real one being Hirata’s discussion).
Also she goes around doing word play and negotiating with Ayano to make his guard down and to make him admit that he is concealing his ability.
However like in the anime she gets an instant nod from Ayanokoji that yes he is hiding his skills. Which kinda puts off her whole game plan.
However he downplays the value in her eyes by saying he himself is not that special. She completely gets outmatched in negotiations.
Tsukihiro scene and White room student incoming news happening at the same time as a potential classmate trailing him who might reveal his talent to the other classmates was nothing but full of excitement to read.
Anime onlies might not get it but more than Ryuen fight for me personally when I read through the final exam arc Sakayanagi vs Ayanokoji was the finale for the first year and it was an amazing read.
You can see the difference of opinion readers and anime watchers have and that this what the the adaptation has led us to.
Overall I don’t want to say that the anime is bad since it is what brought me to read the novels for which I am ever so grateful.
However just seeing potential suspenseful scene animated into an alleyway and waking into them talking coincidentally makes me go “yeah I’m not gonna bother complaining “.

Anime made it solely Ayanokoji focused which is fine but it completely kills other characters major moments and when it's their time to shine it seems shallow.
Just imagine anime watchers see Nagumo suddenly appear and chase Ayanokoji 🤣. Dude did not have a single interaction with him. Anime watchers will be like what's the beef man.

I had to pause for a moment to comment on this ending... I wasn't expecting a whirlwind of emotions, but this episode managed to convey a feeling of LOVE & HATE at the same time, in the same scene 😵💫
This is the most IMPORTANT point in the work so far for the Protagonist's Development, Kiyotaka needs this step to evolve as a Human. So while I hated how the Anime always leans towards the most negative perspective possible (with him always releasing a thought that starts with a DAMN "But..."), it also had the positive/hopeful perspective (with him thinking after the rawest thought, about the possibility of a happy ending)... The last sentence of this story: "If God could grant my wish, at this moment when I hold something important to me in my arms, I would like to be able to smile..." --- With this, all I can think is: If you only watch the Anime of Youkoso/COTE, I guarantee you > "IT'S MUCH HARDER FOR YOU!", the Anime is very complicated and flawed in showing minimally the "Will" of the "Soulless Puppet", because this last sentence of Ayanouji Kiyotaka is nothing to laugh at, scorn, or even distrust, he is being sincere with himself, all he wants is to be able to feel that emotion, but he can't.
I know, the phrase "I will use her as a Romance Learning Book" (even worse considering that he might discard her), but tell me if that's not what people usually do to each other? It's not the standard for someone to be with another and be eternal, to stay forever with the first passion that falls into their life, sometimes that's the worst choice. So despite sounding disgusting, it's real, it's sincere, and it's usual. Kiyotaka will use Kei to learn about Love, because he chose her, it wasn't anyone else, it was her, if he thinks it didn't work out, we'll be sad for her, but he's not obliged to stay with anyone by the other's will. He's not manipulating her in this aspect, he's using her, but to use is not a pejorative word, we only attribute that to it.
It's worth mentioning that this didn't come out of nowhere, he didn't just arrive and decide it was time to take this step, it was the people around him who indirectly influenced him like Satou, Hiyori, Chiaki, and especially Manabu Horikita.
That said, more than 10 Volumes later and they're still TOGETHER, the 2nd Year is FULL of scenes exploring romantic and cute moments between the two (Everyone will freak out watching their scenes studying together and giving her gifts by making dishes she likes, or her moments being annoyed with him because of Kouhai and him just listening with his head down hahaha), so? ENJOY THE MOMENT, it's Three Years, no one knows what's coming next. Kiyotaka from all we know went through the worst experiences in the White Room, he never had the Right to be a Child, to have a family (at least blood ones), but this boy just wants to experience this moment, and as far as I can gather from the Author's writing, Kei is the only one so far who managed to lower his guard, so I hope they both can be happy (And that the Author doesn't mess up, as he already did with other issues "recently").
Ayanokouji is such a fun character because he's not like a typical cold & manipulative characters. I feel like most writers focus on how their character simply can't understand/read human emotions, or their character has evolved past need useless things such as emotions. Ayanokouji can cleary read the emotions of everyone around him. It's how he's able to encourage/break people at the perfect time. Its also diabolical he set that coffee date up to judge if Kei would get jealous so that he could confess to her later.
I think the most interesting thing about Ayanokouji, that sets him apart, is that he's PRAYING 🙏🙏 for his own downfall. He wants Ryuen to crush him, he wants to smile hugging Kei, he wants to be friends with everyone in the class. Tragic stories are usually about Kings that fall from grace. But Ayanokouji is tragic because he's a king that CAN'T fall from grace. This season focused a lot on training/helping the other students, trying to create someone better than himself.
I doubt the kid from the White Room is going to be carbon copy of Ayanokoji because Ayanokoji behaviour is not just influenced by the White Room but with the relationship with his father. Again the anime has robbed y'all of emotional Ayanokoji so things like giving Kei a present and asking her out feel more strategic while in reality he wanted to return Kei's kindness for being the only one to give him a birthday present and he genuinely wants to learn how to love others which they at least expressed in this episode. Romance arc indeed and I hope they make an announcement for season 4 soon

Also, a scene they cut from the anime during kiyotaka's conversation with ichinose is that when he put his hand on her face, he even brushed over her lips with his thumb which caused her to stop trembling from the cold, because she warmed up real quick 🤧
That line with Ichinose, Ayanokouji says 介錯 (Kaishaku) which means beheading the person who committed seppuku to hasten their death. It could mean that if Ichinose falls further, Ayanokouji is the one will destroy her.

The anime took away quite a few scenes from Ichinose and Karuizawa to give them to Horikita, not too mention the scenes removed for the aforementioned. Ayanakoji views Horikita in a similar way to Ryuenn, someone he thinks might be able to take him down. And Horikita's mind has less romance in it than Ayanakoji's so that ship will likely never happen /: Karuizawa's a much better fit for both of them. Karuizawa (in her own words) being a parasite who needs a host and Ayanakoji needing a capable pawn worthy of promoting to queen. The rest he said at the end of the episode.

Year 2 V1 but I don't recommend it, anime skipped a LOT of plots that's been set up on the 1st year that if that certain plot gets a conclusion on Y2 without reading from the start(Y1v1) it won't feel satisfying.

Ayanokoji is the only survivor of the 4th generation of the white room,the 1st to 3rd and 5th generations are not as hard, Ayanokoji survived because his talent is that he is extremely adapatable, to survive and thrive in the 4th generation Ayaonkoji adapted to go far beyond the limits of a normal human, which is why they say he is a monster and his father calls him his masterpiece.

He is not the only survivor, he is the only child that was RAISED and CHOSE to stay in the 4th gen white room. Big difference, there were babies raised to childhood there that even though were failing could have chosen to stay, the whole point of the white room is that it was a CHOICE at any point for you to get out, you got better the more you stayed and failed/won, Koji is only really as good as he is because he quite literally farmed it, becoming emotionally detached in the process from being a lab rat.
Any baby or child that stayed as long as koji did had the capacity to pull the same feats he could do at that point in time, Koji however quite literally rose higher by staying and becoming a top performer since he didn't give up, he smurfed the system, hell he stayed UNTIL they closed down the white room for good, which was just in time for the series to start.
