About this video:In today's video I face one challenge after another. We will be examining new arrivals in the home bee yard and multiple virgin queens. It seems hives without queen bees is a thing for me this season. The bees this season are proving to be difficult to manage.
This Channel:
Although this beekeeping channel is primarily about beekeeping I am also a quasi pepper who believes in becoming self-sufficient. With that in mind, I have started a garden, planted fruit trees, replaced the hedges in front of my house with blueberry bushes, and have recently built a chicken coop. In short, I will share a lot more than beekeeping on this channel.
A little about me:
I am a person who believes you are never to old to learn something. Be it beekeeping, farming, raising chickens, painting, filming and editing video, making wine, beer, bread, cheese, and other fermentation consumables, play guitar etc... If I see something I want to try I start it immediately. If there is one thing I could choose to pass along to my children this would be it. Never be afraid to try. My wife famously told me once that if you are not willing to be bad at something, you will never be good at it. I am bad at quite a few things.
I hope you find my beekeeping videos fun and entertaining as well as get something out of them. I hope I inspire someone to get out and try something new. If you do enjoy my videos, please take a moment to spread the word about this channel and help it, and myself, grow. Have a great day and BEE Happy!

WOW! Busy Busy Busy! Those bees that swarmed and came back are full of wax. They will build you some drawn comb quickly.
I hope so. I have since done a split and added a super.
One of my swarms went into another hive that i didnt want them going in as well lol. Beekeeping who would have thought 😂
Boomerang swarm :-)
Your video quality is always great, lighting challenges don't come across as problematic. Great job, thank you.
Thank you. I try :-)
Nice video Mr Bug Farmer 👨🌾. Catch you next time 🇦🇺👍🐝🍯
Thanks. Friday @ 3:00PM. :-)
I like your approach to colony management. Thanks for sharing....
Thank you for stopping in and sharing your time with me. Much appreciated.
Good video thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you for stopping in. I really do appreciate you.
That's a lot happening 😊
It was a crazy morning in the bee yard. This is the time of year when a lot happens. I am mid flow with about 5 weeks left before harvest. Busy, busy, busy.... :-)
Hey just wanted to say I built your heater box. Used it in Alaska. Delighted to say they made it through a long long winter
Excellent!
🐝😂I was just doing the same thing! Had 2 swarm on me today
That is the second time I had a swarm while working another hive. It's good to see you posting videos again BTW.
@@BugFarmerBees thanks I try to keep them short because it takes sooooooo loooooooooonnnnnnnggg to download 😆
Bug Farmer you have some amazing, good time.
woot woot! :-)
That’s the thing about bees. They don’t care about your plans, and they haven’t read the books. I always go in with a plan, and the bees always throw out the curve balls.
The back row is kind of second string in this bee yard but they will all likely be used to populate the new bee yard when it's ready. Of course I haven't told them that because they would take my plans and shred them :-)
Mine always swarm when I’m at work. Swarm trap right next to my hives and they never stay. Darn bugs!! Never follow the plan. Lol
I have been considering those Russian Scion traps to place in front of my hives. They seem to work well. Here is a a scion by Blanchard's Bees. ua-cam.com/video/T5QWATN0S10/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
@@BugFarmerBees I have thought of those too, had swarm trap hanging all season and caught one and one left.
Go out to the bees with a plan of what you want to do and half way through it goes haywire. That was my day today. Bees have to start reading the books. LOL
I think I will set up a TV in the bee yard playing the bee movie on loop to train them :-). No wait..... Then they would sue me for taking their honey.
Need to get you a cow bell to hit... :)
I need to get a Zildjian gong and mallet for the bee yard.
Don't feel bad I've had a production colony swarm every dang day this week. Just put #5 in the box
Yikes. I don't know where you are but I am right in the middle of my flow. I hate it when they bug out in the middle of the flow.
@@BugFarmerBees Central KY, Right in the middle of the state. Everything is kicked in high gear here right now.
13:45 Possible second queen on wood of top bar (left side of screen) about 60% up? The bias to stop looking for a queen after finding a first one is high.
I thought so too. It's just a verry blond plump bee :-)
You must be or maybe in another life...LOL, been an auctioneer. I can hear that in your talking patterns :) Thanks for another great video.
SOLD! :-)
@@BugFarmerBees LOL!
Did you use dowsing rods to locate the precise spot to strike the bucket? . 😀
No but I did use the dowsing rods to find my neighbors septic tank for him. Found it inside of 5 minutes :-)
Why bang on a bucket? It's a tactic I've never seen or heard of before... 🤷♂🐝
I looked it up "tanging" - ancient method to get "swarms in the air" to land... hopefully near where the "tanging" came from.
Let us know if it worked
it did work. If you notice the last shot in the video all of the bees returned to the hive. look at the ground in front of the hive. They think it is thundering and the bees call the queen to land. In my case she hadn't come out yest so they called off the swarm. I have since split that hive :-)
How long after you put in a queen cell do you wait before going back to check if she hatched?
Generally a week, then two if it hasn't hatched. I usually don't know the age of the queen cell when I place it in another hive.
