I love how you can look at something that's not your personal style and still say it's beautiful, just not for me (the super contemporary stuff and some traditional). I have a lot of respect for you for not just dissing something because it's different from what you are looking for. I also respect that you called that store that you didn't like "vanilla"...not for you (or me) but that is for some people! I love the number one store that you picked! I love clean lines/modern style for most furniture, but some curvier, unique, older wooden pieces are fun, too! And I too feel like things in your home have a soul, too!!! That feeling is just hard to explain though!
Back Home and Arhaus seemed to fit your style the most. Can't wait to see what you pick out eventually. Happy birthday! Thank you for taking su shopping with you. Good luck on putting your home together, and thank you for taking us on the journey.
The more I watch MaCenna, the more I adopt her style. I'll be watching all the thrift shopping and furniture shopping video's and think like her. For some reason she feels like a sister I never had :(
Dear MsCenna, I'm barelly 20years old, and taking care of a full remo in my mom's house. You inspire me with your creativity and positivity, and give me courage to keep going with this project that my family really needs. Thank you very much for your videos and I hope your beautifull homes turn out even better than you wish!!! God bless you
so your videos have been so great for me during this past year - kept me sane and I have learned so much; styling, thrifting, power tools (not ready for it yet but psyching myself up), etc etc, not to mention I now have about a dozen vintage brass candle holders, 5 or 6 salt glazed jugs and lots of studio pottery - so thanks for the twice weekly videos and the positive attitude.
Happy Birthday!!! We will miss you but you deserve a break. Have a great week and know how happy you make us watching you get so excited! I hope you always love life this much.
To me it’s the difference of warmth and cozy-comfy to cold, sterile and mass produced. I lean towards a very similar style as you but more minimal. Also, that cream dish with the black/grey floral would look stunning mixed with the greens you like. Thanks for sharing, this was fun.🥰🙏🏼❤️
Can I request a video series? I'd love to see your take of design trends from different decades and how you would incorporate them into your style! Even if it was demonstrated through just photos or mood boards. I've got a 1880 farm house and I struggle to be creative with design!
When I walk into a specialty store.. I do expect the ambiance. If it’s a place specializing in vintage.. I want the music, furniture, and accessories to match the era. If I don’t feel the vibes… I tend to turn around and leave. I’m glad to see I’m not alone in this.. love your job, personality and talent. And glad your husband is very supportive.
It may be because I'm British, but when she says "cottage-y" I think of classic English cottage style but everything she picks out makes me think of an Italian villa
@@karinakaye4448 ranch style homes are single story, long homes with a front-facing garage, and a low roof pitch. Her home is folk victorian for sure. Its a popular southern style of home. Folk victorian is usually a simple house but decorated with gingerbread style cutouts, spindlework, and decorative trim. My dad is an architect so i've just picked up things here and there over the years.
If you want bargains, your shopping at the wrong stores and in the wrong City! Some of those items you're looking at I have seen in my own local marketplace on Facebook. Be sure and check that out.
We had our couch custom built and if you have the time, it’s the best decision! We were couchless for a long time but I love it so much now that we have it.
The next time you're in Austin, check out Primatives and Out of the Past, both on Burnet Rd. Out of the Past is a really cool vintage store and Primatives is more artisan and heavily rustically inspired and a lot of fun to look through. Both are locally owned and took a hit during the pandemic.
XO, MaCenna what is Romeo's style? We never hear from him about what he likes. Does he like your style or does he have an opinion on what will go into the house?
She explained once that Romeo don't care much about styling the house so he lets her do the way she prefers to. But since they're a couple, she asks him about major decisions, and ask him his opinion too
From Judy in Australia 🇦🇺. This is the situation with my husband too. It’s very helpful in a dynamic like this to have one partner be more easy with style. Generally that person really trusts and enjoys their partner’s choices and prefers to use their own passion and creativity in a different area. That’s how and why it works. ❤️🇦🇺
Wishing you an early, and hopefully wonderful, birthday. I hope you are searching on Craigslist, at garage sales, and especially estate sales for the smaller furniture pieces (desks, cabinets, side tables, etc) you want. You have such a wonderful access to all this out in LA. I’ve often wished I had a fourth of places to shop that you have there. My favorite store was the first one. I want to move in and live there!!
Omg. That pendent light you found in Back Home with the glass and what looked like copper. I love that and want it! Can you find another supplier that would ship to Canada. I am obsessed.
I moved 45 minutes away from Austin recently (coming from Miami) and had no idea such cute stores existed. Im so excited to check them out this weekend. Thanks for the heads up!!
The first store was absolutely gorgeous! I’ve always wanted to build my dream home in the future and this series is definitely confirming that dream. Especially decorating and designing all the rooms. Loving this series and I can’t wait to see more! ♥️
I live in Austin and Four Hands is the manufacturer that sells their stuff to other retailers! Four Hands only has a couple of their own stores but sells through other places.
You are such an inspiration for women of your age range to follow! So classy, mature and an excitement for life! Your parents must be very proud of you! Romeo too!
I've learnt so much from you. and Even here in a developing country, on opposite ends of the Pacific Ocean, where our options are limited, I still find your advice and insights applicable.
Another fabulous video. Thanks for all the time, effort and work (editing) you put into making these videos for us. We really appreciate it. I can see so many lights and furniture pieces that look beautiful in this video. I live in Australia so it is interesting to see what you have for sale over there in America. Wishing you a very Happy Birthday. Celebrate in style xoxo

We ordered a couch in January, even chose their "express" model and colors (since they aligned with what we were thinking of getting anyway). Were told 9 weeks... got the couch in May, 17 weeks later. So glad to finally have it, but that wait is killer!!
When you found that desk on 4 different sites it reminded me of a tiktok where I saw a guy contact the manufacturer of an outdoor couch and he got it made for like 2k instead of 7k or something like that
Love your videos. Not that I want to get all political but I really appreciate your COVID conscientiousness! Not all YT'ers seem to do that. For people like my husband with cancer, it rests our minds a little that there are people out there taking all the precautions for people like him that are immunocompromised or those that can't be vaccinated for some reason. So thank you, everyone.
The aspect most people forget about furniture is the size in relation to the rooms they will be in. You have such an innate sense of style I am sure anything you pick will be perfect!
Loved this video! So exciting to see all the beautiful furniture with you. I also wanted to say I think Arhaus is pronounced like “our house” but I could be wrong! Thank you for taking us on this trip with you!
Would love to see you make your own large dinning table, while you've been out with your lovely mum, I've seen you go by huge chunky wooden pillars( like candle holders you've often picked up that are wood) and I'm sure you'd be able to get huge plankes of wood and plain down. Xxx
Hi MaCenna! Just subscribed and love what you're doing to the Texas Victorian cottage. Also wanted to mention the area that you were shopping in this video was the home of a lot of German settlers way back when. Ergo, all the many German sounding town names in the area. The shop you visited called Arhaus is probably a nod to that heritage and is probably pronounced "Our House." Cute, huh? Anyway, thanks for the fun and informative channel!
I love how they sell pretty generic furniture as "french" or "european" whilst there's no big difference from the regular stuff you film in US shops usually :D :D
Loved this video! So fun seeing the different stores and hear you talk about furniture the way you do! I have no doubt that you will turn the cottage into something absolutely spectacular! Your style is so unique and I just love how you mix and match it all into perfection! This series is perfection!

Omg that first store is DANGEROUS. All those cute and gorgeous items I’d end up buying them all😂😂
I know right! But all the pieces Macenna liked I was like- she can DIY this one and that one and the other one 😂

its a common mistake but I thought you should know the Victorian Era is from 1830-1900. It is considered Edwardian if its from 1900-1920.
