that umbrella stand used to carry coal for the fireplace - back in the early sixties, when we still had coal stoves, every household would have one of these (be it less fancy ones, lol), but then we switched to gas and now everyone has radiators, so...
I totally agree. In Britain, they are called coal 'scuttles'. You fill them, keep them beside the fireplace, then when the fire gets low, you pour more coal from the scuttle into the fireplace. Makes a nice umbrella stand though.
@@micbarker6256 it definitely is a coal scuttle per my british grandmother. the lower handle is the give away. you held the 2 handles to pour out the coal. she still has one very similar that she has on her porch with flowers now. it was used by her grandparents & so on...its odd that business that beth bought it from listed it as an umbrella stand. i would have listed it as an antique coal scuttle that makes a perfect umbrella stand or flower pot, etc...at any rate, its charming as a decor piece. think about all that work & coal dust back then.
The flea market shopping was a delight, Beth. I won't lie. I was curious what you and your friend ate after shopping and hauling the lovely entry piece back to the car. Love the added pieces to your entryway and that gold mirror is divine. Keep the videos coming. They're so much fun to watch. Take care. 🌟💕👏🏾

Hey Beth ,I think u should leave as is because u don’t want to over crowd your space .it’s beautiful just the way you have it and u have such great taste when it comes to your design 👍👌🫶I love it✌️
Hmmm I personally wouldn't put the fabric panel. The entryway is so small and you already have all this natural wood and jute and other neutral brown tones to soften the look. I think adding the fabric panel would draw the attention away from all the natural lighting you already have coming from your front entry way and such. Plus the door is statement in itself! It's a wonderful dark color to contrast with the walls and all the furnishings you put up :) If you wanted some other decoration there, I'd suggest some sort of painting or piece you can put above the door to welcome you guys when you come into/leave the house.
Your French house is so cozy and homey and also really bright and airy! I don't know whether you commented on the square footage of the house but it's amazing what you've done with the amount of space in the living areas! I'm sure whenever you entertain, your guests feel right at home and can sit back and relax in this welcoming home with family and friends. And a delicious meal as well!! I'm learning from your skills at planning and preparing for gatherings. We have a large family and frequently have them to our home. We've recently downsized from a pretty large house to our current home which is half the size of the other one! Aww I would love to visit Greece one day! My husband always talks about how beautiful it is :) And from the French house we are that much closer! Hopefully some day! :)
I, too, thought it was a coal scuttle. But then wondered “why do I even know what a coal scuttle is?” LOL. Amazing the tidbits our minds hang onto especially when the location of keys and eyeglasses remain elusive !!! BEAUTIFUL home. Thanks for sharing.
This is the third coal scuttle I've seen this week, second in a French vlog and the other was an Oregon based channel on an antique daytime lol That's how we know what it is 🤔😉
Must be one used for a big cook stove which needed quite a bit of coal. The scuttle would nicely pair with the oven. The handles of the stove and the protective bars around the stove, were also often made from copper. In this way the functional parts enhance the design.

Beth you can add a fabric curtain to the door window, also good for privacy reasons. That way you can decide to open or close the curtain. When the door is closed, it will soften the look… There’s a specific kind they use in traditional french houses👍🏽
The copper "umbrella stand" is called a coal scuttle in the UK. It would stand beside the fire full of coal so you did not have to keep going outside for the coal in the winter.
Honey, you’re like a breath of fresh air. You are always so happy and informative and so at ease with it all. Just love your videos. Thank you so much for making them
I think your entryway is perfect/complete. It’s really nice and I cannot believe what a difference a cabinet (I would have taken the trouble to haul it back to the car too), mirror and hooks could transform a space. The picture in the kitchen is perfect on that wall and from what I can see, the main area of the house looks complete. You have reached the point of cozy and inviting without competing with the views of the garden. Cannot wait for a grand tour.
Such a fun day!! Your entryway turned out lovely! Since you asked; I'd leave the entryway as is. I think a swag would complicate it. So enjoyed the flea market. You have some great finds and I like that you moved the tassel to the armoire. As stated earlier in the comment, keep the entryway simple.

Great finds, Beth! I love the little chest and the farm field painting is a treasure, perfectly placed. I love everything you’ve done in the home, elegant but not pretentious. A pretty swag would look lovely by the front door, it would soften the door when closed as well. Good move with the tassel too. It’s too pretty to hide, needs to be eye level to appreciate. The house just keeps getting better and better. I love the entrance. You managed to get a warm and cozy feel without being too cluttered. Perfect! I see what you're saying about covering the electrics. My first thought was to build a box around it that matched the wooden bench and make it large enough to have a shelf or two inside for storage. But...then I thought yes, you're right...a curtain would soften the frame. Lol! Oh my goodness... you must be having a blast seeing everything come together so well. ♥♥♥
Aww thank you! I'm so glad you think so! Funny enough it's kinda all growing on me and the more I think about it, I'll probably just leave it as is! I can envision it driving everybody nuts having to pull the curtain back to open the door ha!
@@EntertainingWithBeth I was going to say that it would make me crazy! Imagine coming in out of the rain on a blustery day, opening the door and having the curtain blow around, get wet and stick you while you try to wrestle it out of the way to close the door! I thought about maybe covering the alarm and plastic with a woven basket. It wouldn't be too hard to just lift it when you need access and I believe it would go well the rest of the look of the entry. Thanks so much!
Oh Beth you have most impeccable taste! If you ever tire of cooking for a living (please don't), you could easily be an interior designer. I'm so envious of your access to these huge flea markets in France - what a goldmine! I'm sorry if you've already shared this, but where is your rental located in France? It would be such a treat to stay there, and we're hoping to travel to France in the next couple years.
Another wonderful and inspiring video!! Oh Beth you are killing me with such beautiful content. That flea market was incredible, so many treasures. I absolutely love love love all your purchases and they all felt so at home in your place, they were the perfect additions! The entryway is on point; I wouldn't take or add a thing! You are a marvelous UA-camr, incredible chef and superb decorator. More please!
I love the entrance as it is with the new thinks that you found in the flea market but, surprise us with the idea that you have. Thanks for taking us with you to the flea market. I will love to be there too. Bye.😜
For the mustard server, try googling small, mini, demitasse or mustard serving spoons to see what's out there. Hiding the thermostat behind something might cause its temp sensor to measure incorrectly. I got used to my wall panel after a while, forgetting it's even there until it clicks on or off.
I love to put tiny paintings in a spot as you did near your kitchen door. Although it seems that it is on a large wall, people’s passage/distance between the end of your island and the wall, forces then to “narrow” in and actually see that piece up close! Perfect spot!
always looking forward to your good vibes and shopping experiences at the flea markets! Thanks so much for sharing with us, i can’t wait to travel soon and visit flea markets like you do! You have such a good eye for spotting vintage pieces to fit into your home decor! So inspired 😍
Oh my, how fun was that vlog !!! Thank you for sharing it with us ! You are doing such a wonderful job in the most charming house!! Love everything you've bought and put together. Your house is as lovely as you are ! Cheers ☺
What a wonderful adventure! I love the entry hall piece and the Louis Philippe mirror is perfect. You can never go wrong with that combination! I can see a little gold drapery rod, very simple, over that door with a sheer white drape that you can push off to the side. Of course you would have to put the rod further out from the door width so you could push it back away from the frame, but it would still camouflage those little devices at the side of the door. A pretty little rod and some simple rings would be tres chic! Thanks for taking us along! Can't wait to hear what Mr. Ruggiero thinks of your lovely home. The baskets are FABULOUS hanging there!!
I so enjoy watching your life in France! Your home decorating skills are impressive so say the least. And the food is a way of life there & to be treated very seriously which you are! Makes me want to reread “A Year in Province” or “Province, 1970”!!!!!
Ha! Yes that's one of my favorite books. I reread it every few years and laugh harder each time. It's somehow funnier to me as the years wear on and I get to know the French culture better ha!
Qui belle all the goodies from the puce brocante! I love the French Southern Coastal vibes! The textures and how you repurposed items is elegant yet livable. Tre jolie!
I like your channel a lot 💜The umbrella stand is actually a coal carrying bucket. You fill it up, bring it in and hold up with the handle at the bottom part and pour the coal in the stove. My great grandmother had one of these. 😄💜
Aww so happy to hear that! Dreaming is so important, especially these days! This whole project started as a little dream 20 years ago :) So they CAN come true!
First time seeing this. I love it. Her style is beautiful and she mixes and matches old and new and it create a lovely theme.I agree with another comment in that it’s a great idea to have ‘an umbrella stand’ which was a coal scuttle. It was filled with coal and the handles were used to empty the coal into the fire. Really enjoyed this☺️
Thank you soooo much! Most awaited video! This is great! Entrance looks fab Beth! To me it’s great the way it is now… but would like to see how it looks of you wanna add something I would never want to leave that place! Please do so many more videos… ❤️❤️
Lovely finds! I may be wrong, but the “umbrella stand” though, I think it originally was a pot commonly used to scoop and carry coal pieces from the deposit into the house. It is a beautiful piece and it’s genius to use it for umbrellas 👍🏻😍
Thank-You, this is so fun! Would LOVE to go, and to buy! Thanks so much for sharing this video of Your treasure-hunt; probably the closest I’ll get to experiencing this fantasy in RL!!!
Loved this video! TFS! Your beautiful entryway stand may also have been a “washstand”, where a big pitcher of water and matching bowl would be in a bedroom to wash up. The umbrella stand may have been used near a fireplace for ashes to be carried out of the house. I could be wrong on all of it, either way they are absolutely perfect how you’ve decorated with the pieces.
I also could be wrong, but I don’t think that piece was a washstand - they usually had a bar for for hanging a washcloth and/or towel. It could have been just a little chest kept in the bedroom, though. I do agree about the “umbrella stand.” It’s an ash bucket. But it’s current use as an umbrella stand is great! If someone wants the same look, I know of a copper one near me that’s up for auction and it’s online at Vatican.com, but the auction ends soon.
The umbrella stand is a coal scuttle. I’m very familiar with them from growing up in Ireland. Of course, now that coal fires are less common, they are being repurposed.
This is my first time seeing a video of yours! So glad I came across your channel. What a delight!!! I am now a follower and subscriber. Cannot wait to see another ….going to watch French Hour Tour! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I absolutely love love love all your purchases and they all felt so at home in your place, they were the perfect additions! The entryway is on point; I wouldn't take or add a thing! You are a marvelous UA-camr, incredible chef and superb decorator. More please!
This house gets more magical every time you show it
I love the entrance as it is with the new thinks that you found in the flea market but, surprise us with the idea that you have.
Yes that's so true! Good points! Thank you :)
LOL I just posted the same - I should have read ALL the comments first instead of commenting as I scrolled down!
@@Lucinda_Jackson ...I've done the same thing myself under other vids. I see it as great minds who think alike. 😁
@@msr1116
Oh, definitely! 😄
ETA: I laughed when I glanced after it posted - we even use the same emoji!
@@Lucinda_Jackson .....we're on the same wavelength, as they used to say. Wow, I even thought of using the same one you did, then changed my mind !
I love to put tiny paintings in a spot as you did near your kitchen door. Although it seems that it is on a large wall, people’s passage/distance between the end of your island and the wall, forces then to “narrow” in and actually see that piece up close! Perfect spot!
And your home is just beautiful!!!!
The mustard pot is gorgeous. Loved the flea market.
always looking forward to your good vibes and shopping experiences at the flea markets!
I love the idea of a fabric panel!
What a perfect entrance, great findings from the flea market! 😊
I do enjoy with your vlogs. It's so dreamful & inspiring! 😉😍
I really love the dishes on the wall & the chair with stripes!!! 😍😍😍
Hi from NZ. Love your entranceway as it is. Also - that's not an umbrella stand but a coalscuttle that you've put to very good use.
It all looks Fantastic ,love that entry !!! Good job Beth! Cant wait for the next video!
Qui belle all the goodies from the puce brocante! I love the French Southern Coastal vibes! The textures and how you repurposed items is elegant yet livable. Tre jolie!
The entryway looks so welcoming! Really love seeing everything come together.
Oh my gosh!!! I love your purchases! This is so much fun! I want to see more!! 🥰🥰🥰
I like your channel a lot 💜The umbrella stand is actually a coal carrying bucket. You fill it up, bring it in and hold up with the handle at the bottom part and pour the coal in the stove. My great grandmother had one of these. 😄💜
Sooo in love with these videos! They make me so happy, they make me dream.
Aww so happy to hear that! Dreaming is so important, especially these days! This whole project started as a little dream 20 years ago :) So they CAN come true!
Beth, This has been a joy! Every video is so much fun. Thanks for taking us along!
To me it’s great the way it is now… but would like to see how it looks of you wanna add something
I would never want to leave that place! Please do so many more videos… ❤️❤️
Beautiful Beth! I vote for the blue stripe drapery in the front entrance! ❤🍁
Thanks for voting! Ha! :)
Entryway is perfect as is, love it❣
I like that cabinet you got at the Flea Market.
I would not add the fabric. I think your door is already a beautiful feature and the natural decor you have now is already good enough🌷
the entrance looks so lovely! Glad you found exactly what you were looking for with Freddie
The entry way looks amazing! What a great adventure!
Lovely finds! I may be wrong, but the “umbrella stand” though, I think it originally was a pot commonly used to scoop and carry coal pieces from the deposit into the house. It is a beautiful piece and it’s genius to use it for umbrellas 👍🏻😍
My first time watching your video. Every enjoyable, very happy I found your channel.
You have inspired me to look for artwork at flea markets! Such a great feel your house has! ❤
Oh yes flea market art has the best patina and usually you can get it already framed with is a great money saver too! 🙌💕
Thank-You, this is so fun!
Would LOVE to go, and to buy!
Thanks so much for sharing this video of Your treasure-hunt; probably the closest I’ll get to experiencing this fantasy in RL!!!
Beths word of the day, “coloration”😃 everything looks fabulous! And thanks for the fun tour of the flea market!!
Love it! Thank you for all these lovely and entertaining videos! Always looking forward to the next one! You have a really good eye for design (:
@@Lucinda_Jackson That makes sense!
The umbrella stand is a coal scuttle. I’m very familiar with them from growing up in Ireland. Of course, now that coal fires are less common, they are being repurposed.
Loving your french shopping and decorating.
This is my first time seeing a video of yours! So glad I came across your channel. What a delight!!! I am now a follower and subscriber. Cannot wait to see another ….going to watch French Hour Tour! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Aww so glad you found me too! WELCOME to the community! :)
