My 2019 Q5 has 183k miles and is still going strong. In America, German cars have a reputation of being endless money pits, that if you want reliability, you have to go with a Japanese brand. My Audi is definitely bucking that trend. So far, I've been taking care of it and it's been taking care of me. Since I've owned the car, every 10k miles I've gotten Audi's scheduled book maintenance. Every 5k miles, I've gotten the oil changed and tires rotated.
So far, I recommend the Q5.

I love this new Q5.Thanks for this review, good job as always Thomas.
thanks m8 !
Many thanks Thomas, have carefully watched all your videos for the Q5, GLC and they are extremely informative and detailed. great work! I've chosen a Q5 in the end and can't wait for it to arrive
+Ian thanks and glad we could help!
Full screen, HD, and length plus a great review? It's better than the car itself!
Very nice review Thomas,i like your videos very very much! Wish you all the best in the future videos. ;)
+Matej Vukovic 👍👍👍
Thanks Thomas, I was waiting for this video.
+César Oliveira 👍
Nice review Thomas, cant wait for the Q4.
thanks!
I'm not sure what to think about Q5.
Waiting for upcoming X3.
Really good review Thomas! Good job :)
thanks! We ll have the X3 world premiere for you very soon
Another really excellent review. Thank you!
thanks !!
+Autogefühl
Hey Thomas, fantastic review as always I must tell you that I really like the fit and finish of the new Audi cars. My 2017 A4 just seems so solid, planted and quiet that every time I step into the car its like the first. IMHO no other manufacturer does it quite so well in this day and age, the conservative styling and evolutionary design also ensures reliability with very minor updates to components from one generation to next.
thanks for the feedback!
As an avid Autogefühl viewer, I would like to congratulate you on making it shorter and more crisp. Great work Thomas and good work with the camera, Michelle! 👍🏽 On a separate Note, what is that good looking watch that you are wearing? 😁 - Ghanshyam, TU Braunschweig, Braunschweig
you really look like superman great reviews thanks for the updated content its quite fun
+oz land 👍👍
Best reviews, Brilliant UA-cam Channel
thanks, spread the word for us!
I will...
I love the colour combo of his clothes and car
🙏
Very nice about what i expect from Audi
Bravo Thomas!! That extra glovebox you nearly lost your arm in is probably a forward ski hatch!! It must be a new idea 😆. Keep "em coming!! Let's go!!!
haha =)
Not so sure about the vehicle but, dude!!!!, your wardrobe has definitely taken a turn for the better (not that anyone noticed before mind you: (not that there's anything wrong with that) This was/is a classic Thomas review - perfect and on point -
+willie s johnson 👏👏😁
wow, this is end of my video watching at your channel/ youtube channel, tomorrow i am going to book my SUV, Q5 Technology thanks for giving knowledge about Q5
pls keep joining us further :)
Which is the ground clearance in mm in lift/off road mode? I mean... which is max ground clearance for Audi Q5 2017?
I got the chance to testdrive a Q5 today (190hp, S-line, air suspension) : it really is a top car, a big step forward after the first generation - even if the exterior makes you doubt that. I will not order the air suspension myself, as I am pretty happy with a stiff s-line setup. And also : I am not sure about the 'technology pack' : the google map viewing is pretty neat, but I don't think it is very practical in day today life ...
Thks vm for your reviews, enjoying all of them - keep it up !
thanks for the feedback!
Could you guys review the BMW 340i please🙏
Excellent review, and by the way, very nice Alpina watch Thomas! :-)
thanks, keep tuning in :)

Great review as always Thomas.
Now for everyone complaining about Audi's being built in Mexico. All German car manufacturers are moving to Mexico for cheaper labor. Check this out:
BMW de Mexico has two production facilities in Lerma, Toluca, Mexico State.[3][4] In one, the company manufactures BMW motorcycles, and in the second, the company manufactures the BMW 3 series,[5] BMW 5 series,[6] BMW 7 series[7] and BMW X5.[8]
The joint effort between Daimler AG and Nissan Motor Co. to build cars
over a shared platform is still under review, even when the US$ 1
billion plant they build together in Aguascalientes, Mexico, is
scheduled to start rolling out Nissan’s Infiniti luxury models this year
and Mercedes-Benz compact vehicles will follow in 2018.
PS If things keep up like this, we all may have to move to Mexico...
Nice review as always! Are you going to test the new Volvo XC60?
+Tomás Jarsun thanks! Yeah!
Nice car, great review. I subscribed your channel and become your big fan now :)
Btw, I like your watch :)
awesome =)
Watching this in full volume also.
=)
Hey Thomas, thumbs up on your belt. What brand and where can I buy it. The perforated detail adds a nice touch.

Is a review of the SQ5 also coming ?
I'm also waiting for the full HD, full screen and full length review of the SQ5!
+MikeZolo yes about a week left!
The new Q5 is a good evolution of it`s predecessor !! Why should the change so much? The first generation was so
successful ! The new Audi design looks very sharp and straightforward - I love it! 😍🔥 But the S-Line is a must have XD
I hope you can review my favourite version, the SQ5😉
Way to 200k ;)
yeah lets do this!
Is it really hard plastic? It feels more rubber coated than hard plastic. Nice review
I did a search in the middle of the review for the Opel Casada, Autogefuhl have come long way with much better sound quality. Great review on the Audi Q5 but I would choose an A4 Avant or Allroad over the Q5.
not much shoe stile, but man that alpina is so nice, also the review is top notch as always :)

If any anyone knows doe's the "screen" retract into the dash if desired? thank you
Why all the negativity in the comments? To me, this car is a great-looking point-to-point transporter for people that like simplicity and do not want their car to go out of style in a couple of years. Hence, evolution, not revolution in design.
Compare the 911 from 1964 and the 991.2 gen of this year - yes, they look extremely similar, although more than 40 years have passed between them. Q5 is not an icon, I get it, but there are many people that like conservative looks and evolution. Just a thought.
Just like the Q7 it looks strange on photos...I'm sure just like the Q7 it will look great on the road.
I have to agree with you here - I do not understand why this is, but all new Audis just look strange on photos. I testdrove the new S5 and looked 100% better in person.
Lol. Bollocks. You mean like the old one. It looks old and dated, because of your evolution idea.
Hi Thomas, great content. Would love to see you review a modern supercar like the Ferrari 488 or the Aston Martin db11.
+alban productions _ u can see mclaren and ferrari reviews from me, youtube search autogefuehl brandname
Please also show us the parking assist options. Does it have a rear view parking camera?
Sure, optional
hi @thomas , which type of auto gear box is better for stop go traffic like here in India , I heard tat dual clutch gearboxes like the ones used by vw group have more chance of failure than the torque converter type ones used by BMW are better for stop go traffic and are less jerky than dual clutch gearboxes in slow moving traffic , please advice .
+Muralidhara Reddy indeed converter's are better for Stop n go and for heavy load, everything else in between the dual clutch is good fot smoothness
Thenks Thomas great review as always does anyone know can I order this plastic cladding around wheel arch for UK market and Maniual gearbox 2.0 Tdi thenks
Cheers! I think u should be
Hi , wich one would you chose the Mercedes GLC or this Q5? Also Where there big differences with this 2.0 TDI against the 2.0 tfsi performance wise?

I really like this vehicle but the design is old looking, i hope that they will improve the design. Thank you Thomas for your work i support base models with necessary features adding.
I always wanted to know, are car part's exactly the same brand, for cars Made in Mexico(Q5), or for example, Made in Germany(A4).
BTW, great rewiev Thomas, as always!
+the rainman thanks! Not exactly as there are also other suppliers close by. But same standards
when there is some car u are not interested with, but the video is made by Autogefühl lol im here now
+Xiyao Cai 😎
I am indifferent about leather seats--I think high grade leatherette is as good and as comfortable if you like the leather feel; cloth is my preference for comfort but it is usually unavailable in higher trims. But hard plastic on my premium SUV where I will probably rest my arm is pretty much a deal killer. I do not know much about the manufacture of cars, but how much more could the an even slightly better material be? (For the record, I drive a GTI, so this car would be out of my range anyway....)
+Edward Reiss exactly.
Edward Reiss The Jaguar F-Pace has even more hard plastic that is easily scratched, so I took it off my list.
Hm I really like the new B9-gen Audis! The A4 Avant looks really classy, looking forward to the RS4
And talking about the diesels... I think it is really hard to "remove" them from the German market.. many manufacturers don't have good petrol options and the second hand premium market if filled with diesels etc .. so it'll take some time.. taking Q5.. why would I get the 252hp, more expensive petrol than the 190/163 diesel.. if they'd offer the 2.0T with 190hp (that they have removed from the A4 lineup, why ever, the 1.4 is meh) and maybe even FWD, manual it would be a really great and cheap and attractive variant..
I've already driven the new Audi Q5 SUV TFSI variant
will you do a review of the new mercedes gla soon?
lets see what we can do
Good work Thomas...I'm sad that we in the U.S.are not treated to the fine/fuel efficiency of the diesel models you get in world! Why? I blame the parent owner of Audi completely! Still, sad to watch this review and know I cannot purchase it!
Where are the fog lights?
FIRST.
GOOD MORNING Autogefühl team.
+Markus Deep good morning :)
It's ok to have leather,as long as it's ventilated and heated
easier just to take fabric :)
Thanks, but could you please test the all new Renault Koleos?
+Endre Lazar we can try to get it
As a current SQ5 owner, really disappointing to see that not only has the design taken a weird turn, but the quality definitely appears to have dropped. Definitely agree Thomas, too much cost saving!
Thomas which do you prefer, Q5 or Macan, both on the same platform.
+siphonsnob compare our macan reviews:)
Autogefühl I have watched your Macan videos many times, even the 4 cylinder model. My guess is that you think the Macan is more fun to drive. am I correct?
the Macan is surely more set to a dynamic ride, but for some that can be too stiff, it really depends on your personal preference
if it is made in mexico why is not half of the price? i've deleted it from short list
Thomas in his summer attire
+Robert Feather ☀️
Such a shame the press cars they give you are not more regular specs without air suspension, optional safety tech and sound insulating glass etc as 8/10 buyers do not spec the most expensive options.
I'm in agreement with you regarding leather upholstery. Would rather a fabric, alcantara trim, I hate the smell & feel of leather also the cruelty aspect. Keep up the good work. Best reviews out there
+Jenny Donne thanks jenny! Spread the word!
+Jenny Donne thanks jenny! Spread the word!
great : you can adjust rear seats for real comfort! You cannot do this on the XC60 volvo!
Thomas your RPM were 1000 how would you realize whether it is a diesel or not? :P :P
Does it offer Android Auto or only Apple Carplay
Most likely yes
At least Audi offers alcantara seats on all trim levels. Volvo for example can't fit alcantara seats into Inscription trim, you have to go with R design.
Thomas , whats the watch you are wearing ?

I am torn. I am interested in the SQ5 version, to avoid the "Quattro ultra" of the Q5, but the SQ5 will not have the dual clutch transmission and I am not a fan of torque converter. I prefer the style of the Macan compared to the Audi, and there will be a lot of negative comments here on the Audi design. My TT has the same sport seats with the diamond stitching and I don't find them comfortable, so I hope there are seat options in Canada.
The ZF Auto is amazing.

I really like the new q5! all of the other brands (benz and bmw) looks the same, e class c class no difference...so same like audi. but it is still a good car, and not everybody like to have a very special design! it is understatement and someone People like this! they selled a lot of them...
Wow !
They can keep the Mexican made Audi, especially if they do not pass savings onto the customer! Greedy corporate policy!
Waiting for velar and xc60 thomas!
will be all here! :)

Don't want to be too negative, but that isn't the interior of a €70k car; it feels like it needs a refresh. Good vehicle format though, some nice touches and typical good build quality.
It appears the new Tiguan and Q5 are on the same platform and share many parts (drivetrain, interior components, etc.). Optioned similarly, is there enough of a difference to justify the higher price of the Audi? Has the price of these vehicles dropped / stayed flat given they are being manufactured in Mexico, where the factory workers are not paid as well as their German counterparts?
A worker in Mexico costs car companies an average of $8 an hour. The same time, the average auto worker in Germany made $50.00 per hour in pay. I think Audi can afford to apply a bit more soft touch plastics in the interior on the money they are saving in salary.
Anthony C Brown Well, the cars are not based on the same platform as the tiguan uses the MQB platform, while the q5 uses the MLB platform
+Anthony C Brown thats what i said, no cost advantage for the customer. Not the same platform though, q5 = MLB , tiguan = MQB
+Anthony C Brown thats what i said, no cost advantage for the customer. Not the same platform though, q5 = MLB , tiguan = MQB
Thanks for the clarification
Thanks for clarifying. Will Germany be producing Q5s in the homeland for European markets? On another topic, do you have a preference for where we could have a gathering?
Great review as always. As for the car, the only thing I can say is that audi is the living proof german car brands can built crappy cars as other manufacturers. Overpriced, still no touch screen in the infotainement system and the car quality is really sucky too.
Base Macan or top tier Q5?
ah you were here already =) hehe
Depends on sportiness vs comfort and about the style
thanks, ill have to test drive the Macan still. Keep up the great videos.
Subtitles, please.
Great car however you should have tested it also on unpaved/gravel road not only on perfectly paved german roads.
See our review from Mexico for that (video description)
This car looks like a tiny hotwheels when Thomas is around...
Hey Tomas, is this your car?
no
ohh. I guess i was distracted by your "I've chosen here, mate wood"
15:49 that's for your gun.
Hey this one looks like the old ones, what do you know, nothing new!
Agree with others. Built in Mexico! Bad decision Audi.
Good in depth review by Autogefuhl.
thanks Andrew!
Andrew Marsden same quality standarts
Agree. Customers dońt buy Audi to buy a car built in Mexico. They expect made in Germany.
I actually don’t mind the new exterior design, it’s nice compared to the last generation. But all the hard plastic!!! Looks just like Volkswagen!!!
I feel a bit of a double standard occuring here with this Audi. If it were any other car, the interior would be chastised as plasticky and cheap, yet because "it's an Audi", the press insists it is "minimalist" and "well designed". Hmm.... Nothing against Autogefuhl though, I love this channel.
thanks for the feedback, I think we also criticize Audi enough and also described the flaws of this interior, didnt we?
? Das ist ein Mittelklasse SUV. Meiner Meinung nach hätten die Designer im Interieur "bessere" Materialien benutzen können. Auf mich scheint es noch einbisschen "alt".
Better than the new x3 except from the rear....regarding leather interiors - i dont think they kill cows for seats - i think they kill cows for beef and then use the skins for leather goods. If we all stopped buying leather, they would have to destroy all the skins...
Thank you for taking interest in this very important topic!
We have researched this issue for many years now so please take your time to go through our extensive resources stated below as they answer every single question we have yet received concerning this matter.
At Autogefühl, we have already received several thousands (!) comments, messages and mails that more and more people want to combine enjoying their car with reducing the environmental impact at the same time. We believe that sustainable luxury is possible or at least we should do everything to support that. Those many thousand people confirming this trend, motivate us to give you the most authentic information and background on the product parts. It is not about what you bought in the past, and it is not about blaming anyone, it is about what you decide in the future and what you can decide and influence as a customer. So we want you to have all information that you need for a decision you later enjoy and like best yourself.
Check out our special video addressing car CEOs as a first summary and also see conditions of animal skin production:
ua-cam.com/video/LNSUzZXzpdc/v-deo.html
List of practical reasons against animal skin seats:
1. animal skin seats are often sold as an expensive option, by going for base trim level seats you can save a lot of money and get a better price-performance-deal (often the manufacturers claim that animal leather is top of luxury because they can earn the best money with it)
2. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat, probably you need seat cooling
3. they get very cold in winter and you need seat heating
4. on cloth or microfibre surfaces, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling
5. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like an old sofa
6. if you want leather look or need seats that can be wiped clean easier, the leatherette (faux leather) surfaces are meanwhile highly evolved and it is possible that it feels even softer and better than anything else (See our Tesla Model X review ua-cam.com/video/y2wNGFKa4M0/v-deo.html) So Tesla shows a good example for that
7. More manufacturer names for their good alternatives: Mercedes MBTex/Artico for leatherette, Dinamica for microfibre. BMW Sensatec, Toyota Sof-Tex, Lexus Nu-Luxe (all faux leather)
To the environmental reasons:
1. The way the cows and other intelligent and social animals are raised and held are not according to the basic values that we all share (also see videos below)
2. The factory farming industry can be accounted for at least 40 % of climate emissions and thus is (according to numerous sources you can look up) the number one reason for climate change and environmental destruction. It is the number one reason for deforestation, two thirds of all agricultural land on earth is used for growing animal food crops. If you would feed humans directly by using the agricultural land, you could produce much more food for everyone. See this interesting essay for more on climate emissions background: www.worldwatch.org/files/pdf/Livestock%20and%20Climate%20Change.pdf
3. It is not only cows who are suffering, but also the environment and to a big part also humans. Think of slavery-like working conditions in slaughterhouses (there are plenty of documentaries about this) or think of chemically altered drinking water in animal skin production villages as also seen in the video footage.
4. The discussion, for which body part the cow is killed first, is very patronizing. But if you really think it would be important why someone gets killed in first place: There are many productions where the cow is killed for the skin first, sometimes even while still being (part-)alive, the skin is the most profitable single part of the body.
5. So even if a cow gets theoretically killed for meat first, in every case you give additional money to an industry that relies on killing, pollutes the environment and harms people with chemicals. Let's say you are standing at the meat counter. And you ask for the leg of the cow. The butcher tells you: "You can eat that without worrying, the cow was slaughtered for the neck first". The next customer demands the neck. The butcher tells him: "It's not your fault, the cow was slaughtered for the belly". A the next customer demands the hide, what answer does he get? You see, that argument of "byproduct" comes from the meat and leather industry to cover up that you contribute to killing no matter which part of the body you buy.
6. To the often said argument, animal skin would just be a byproduct, please google/youtube "leather is not a byproduct" you will find plenty of information. A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/
To “But leatherette is not sustainable due to petrochemical production”
1. Indeed some fabrics and micro fibres are oil based, however most oil is spent on energy production, heating and fuel. The share of oil used for artificial cloth etc. is very very small.
2. If you look at the whole production process, the leatherette is way more sustainable than the leather produce.
3. The best to-come solution are indeed plant-based materials like Pinatex (based on pineapple leaves) or new materials based on mycelia (roots of mushrooms) or other innovative natural products. That’s the future.
More special video episodes:
1. A initial special video from Autogefühl considering the use of leather can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/8f91KgbVbJQ/v-deo.html
2. And another one right here: ua-cam.com/video/tMNgcLE0LDU/v-deo.html
3. Furthermore, you’ll find the footage of leather production also here, where people are walking in chemicals etc. and animals have to watch their friends being slaughtered in front of their eyes: ua-cam.com/video/JipYvuDsI6s/v-deo.html
timecode starting 27:46
4. This is another video which very well summarizes the torture of leather production, shots taken at big farms which directly produce for the automotive industry: ua-cam.com/video/OgHs239bAnE/v-deo.html
5. Please note that those videos are made by well-known journalists and cameramen who were not influenced by any animal welfare organisation, they supply their footage to the animal rights groups of course. I partly know the creators of the video footage personally and they are all authentic. You don’t have to search long to find cruel production environments anyway.
Manufacturers reactions:
We started the very first inquiry years ago, with the result that car manufacturers do not reveal their sources of animal skin AT ALL. If it all would be clean and happening without harm, why don’t they show it to us whereas they are showing us every other detail of their products? They have good reason not to, because there is no such thing as a clean animal skin production without harming cows, humans and the environment. The only thing a manufacturer can do is increase their effort for a better future, and we are helping with in-depth talks and interviews by presenting the increasing customer demand for sustainable luxury.
So meanwhile, we more often also get feedback that a lot of manufacturers are working on leather-free interiors and are aware of the situation. E.g. Bentley, Mini and Kia have started vegan car interior programmes. Tesla and Mercedes are already showing major choices for sustainable interiors, you always have to pay attention to the details when ordering, of course - and we are happy to give advice. However, much has to be done still and the Autogefuehl community is massively helping in boosting the positive change!
Help to raise awareness on this subject. Thanks!
70k with no electric seats? manual steering wheel? what is going on with today's prices. VAG group can probably get the best prices since their tech is spread amongst so many brands, YET their prices are through the roof. wtf..
i dont even like audi... i just watch this video for his voice xD... he should do asmr
$70K?! That's stealing plain and simple!
70K Euro, not USD

6. if you want leather look (because visually it sure can look very nice!) or need seats that can be wiped clean easier, the leatherette (faux leather) surfaces are meanwhile highly evolved and it is possible that it feels even softer and better than anything else (See our Tesla Model X review ua-cam.com/video/y2wNGFKa4M0/v-deo.html) So Tesla shows that the discussion, whether you need animal skin is basically done.
7. More manufacturer names for their good alternatives: Mercedes MBTex/Artico for leatherette, Dinamica for microfibre. BMW Sensatec, Toyota Sof-Tex, Lexus Nu-Luxe (all faux leather)
To the environmental reasons:
1. The way the cows are held are catastrophic (see videos below)
2. The factory farming industry can be accounted for 50 % of climate emissions and thus is the number one reason for climate change and environmental destruction. It is the number one reason for deforestation, two thirds of all agricultural land on earth is used for animal food crops. If you would feed humans directly by using the land, you could produce much more food for everyone. See this interesting essay for more on climate emissions background: www.worldwatch.org/files/pdf/Livestock%20and%20Climate%20Change.pdf
3. So it is not only cows that are suffering, but also the environment and to a big part also humans. Think of slavery-like working conditions in slaughterhouses (there are plenty of documentaries about this) or think of chemically altered drinking water in animal skin production villages as also seen in the video footage.
4. The discussion, for which body part the cow is killed first, is very patronizing. But if you really think it would be important why someone gets killed: There are many productions where the cow is killed for the skin first, sometimes even while still being (part-)alive, the skin is the most profitable single part of the body.
5. So even if a cow gets theoretically killed for meat first, you give additional money to an industry that relies on killing, pollutes the environment and harms people with chemicals.
However, much has to be done still and the Autogefuehl community is massively helping in boosting the positive change!
Help to raise awareness on this subject. Thanks!
omg how i hate space saver replacement wheels.... and this deflated option is even worse.
what is the point of having this "space master" spare wheel, and then they put styrofoam mold in there around it... what the hell. just put there full size spare and save the driver the hassle.
I don't understand car manufacturer/buyers that want leather seats in the car. It is non-breathable material which means in summer or over long drive it gets extremely uncomfortable. There are many other materials that are far more comfortable and durable than leather.
exactly!
Эти разговоры о спасении животных просто дичь. Почти все едят мясо, но вот для сидений убивать животных нельзя…. С чего это?))))
€70k for a 2 liter TDI Q5? Come on Audi, you can buy a Porsche Macan Diesel S for that money.
20 k options there is your problem.
