I'll take the Volvo If I want an SUV I don't want the sport bit, I want the luxury aspect. The Volvo is the waftiest, best looking and has the nicest interior, definitely my first choice.
SamTheCar And? They are tall, heavy vehicles and not sporty at all so why try to make them sporty? You can do as much as physically possible but a car with a high driving position is never going to be a sporty car.
I have a Volvo sedan, very nice car. The issue I have is the interior is noisy, you can hear the engine when you accelerate, very loud and that knocks down the 'luxury' feel of the car. Seats and ride are great, but it's just not at the same level of my Q5 so I can speak about both cars since I own them both.
Just some quick feedback - I think it's really smart that you're now showing the specific savings on each car from car wow rather than just stating that if you go to car wow you "could save" on the car. Gives much more of a reason to visit the site
When it comes to these cars you just have to go with what feels best for you. They are soo close on every level. Just go with the one that gives you that special feeling.
I’ve owned the 2018 xc60 momentum since November and I absolutely love it. I was between the Volvo, the Q5 and the Land Rover evoque and it was an easy decision. Drive is smooth, interior is much higher quality and it exterior is lovely. I owned an Audi for 8 years and it had issues basically from the day I drove it off the lot.
I’ve owned the XC60 for 6 months and absolutely love it, true it’s not the most sportiest but that doesn’t bother me, the interior is a beautiful place to be especially if you have the light leather and the 360 camera is superb.
If you care about leather and camera check bmw, their parking assistance 360 areal camera is the best I saw and individual leathers are great. But bmw is traditional so if you want futuristic, it's not a good choice.
I bought a xc60 and loved it. Had a major accident in it recently and my car saved my life. The paramedic who cared for me said the same thing. My car is toast, but I’m alive!
@@christianvik3400 the newer XC60s are an odd shape inside. We have a 2012 and there’s a ton of headroom, but we checked out a new one a couple months ago and there wasn’t enough headroom for our 6-year-old in his harness booster seat-his head was like an inch from the ceiling. It was so strange. We’re keeping our 2012. I hope they fix that soon. It was so strange to feel like there wasn’t much more room in the new XC60 than in our little S40.
@@lisahall4209 that is awesome! I’m so glad you’re okay! My friends hit a deer head-on in their S60 and their 3-year-old in the back seat slept right through it. We currently have an XC60 and a little S40, and planning to add an XC90 in the next couple years. Unless something major changes with their quality, we won’t be buying anything but Volvos, ever.
Car Of The Year is just a nonsense, really. What is important is how a car measures up to *your* prerequisites. The VW Up! and Nissan Leaf have both won the World Car Of The Year award, but it doesn't hold much cache in the real world. Buy the car that best suits your needs rather than being swaying by the opinion of a bunch of grumpy old men who, ultimately, decide the WCOTY winner.
Yes I agree with u I’ve got a x3 bmw wonderful SUV very reliable solid vehicle no major issues just basic maintenance will last a long time I’ve had 8 bmw in my life very good solid vehicles
I was looking at the BMW X3 and the Volvo XC60. Bought the Volvo. So glad I did, because I was hit by a drunk driver and my car was told Alex. Me and my sister were brought to a level 1 trauma hospital where my injuries were not life threatening and my sisters were- due to the seatbelt. I’m glad I was in the Volvo and not the beemer as volvos are superior for safety. I watched a video a bmw and a Volvo crash test. No comparison. Volvo driver for life, I’ll take a bit slower and a few little irritants over the polish of the bmw. My car saved my life as well as my sisters.
You try too hard, just to tell us you are not a China Volvo fanboy. X3 is 1 Audi 2 Volvo 3. all are super safe, and you do not buy one to crash it and find out.
I looked at Benz, Audi, and BMW. There’s just something about BMW that stands out. It’s truly a drivers car. Fit and finish are top notch. The new X3 is one of my favorite models. Perfect all around
Looked at Benz, Audi, BMW for my new car.... BMW quality on all of their cars is 2 or 3 notches above Benz, 2 notches up on the Audi... Jag was plastic.... Volvo... Nah.. that screen.... New BMW Interiors and Exteriors are in a league of their own
I think it all depends on what you are looking for as all three are great cars. We test drove all of them. We chose the X3 because it had the comfort in driving style that my wife prefers but it has the responsiveness and intense road grip that I prefer. A great compromise. It doesn't swing too far to either the over-comfort of over-performance extremes. For road handling, feel, and performance, it's the clear winner but that is not the only criterion for purchase and may not be at the top of the list in everyone's decision-making framework.
The Audi is SO boring and derivative. I like the exterior style of the X3 but the interior is SO bland. The XC60 is stunning inside and out. The interior especially is masterful.
Samuel Brooks I think Volvo is trying too hard, trying to be a Tesla look a like. I’m not sold on their designs and never have been. Not that they are bad cars but either the X3 or the Q5 are way more fun to drive.
Peter Lustig I hate the exterior too! It’s too slabby and uninteresting. Audi have some nice creases up the side and some nice bits of chrome and detail on the front number Volvo is just boring and boxy!
About this type of car, i go with volvo, for the style and exclusivity. Doesn't matter if it's not sporty, luxury and space are what i want from suv, so for me is xc60. Anyway, both x3 and q5 are great cars too, no doubt absolutely
I test drove all three and finally took delivery of my X3 two days ago. Love it so far. Some small disappointments in things featured in practically every review are options (eg those gas struts in the boot under floor storage must be part of the upgrade storage option, cuz they aren’t in mine)
I was just looking at all three of these cars in the 2020 editions and ended up going with the XC60. I really like the simplistic design and got the premium seat package on the Inscription. I think the interior design on the Volvo is so much cleaner and well designed than the other two. Both the X3 and Q5 look like someone just glued an iPad to the dash for the infotainment center and it just feels clunky to me.
Matt, an innocent feedback: If you had upgraded stuff in the BMW and Volvo, you should have had it in the Audi, too. Interior colour would also be nice to be matched. In my opinion, because it is a video comparison, everything to the eyes (right?), it is unfair to compare differently upgraded cars. Audi should definitely had the upgraded visual cockpit, and all cars should have had bright interior. It is ok to highlight that things disappointingly do not come as standard, but if you show one in one car, show the competition in a competitive package, too. Cheers
me to, what's the point getting bigger SUV with same boot space - xc60 have 500ltr same as X1, X1 much better on handling then big SUV which mean much more fan. I've done stage 1 with my 2.0i 192 - 250BHP and around 6.5sec - done 5 trips through Europe this year - twice on ski with all equipment and average of 7.9ltr/100km with 235km top speed. I was thinking to get Q5 before X1 - but q5 inside quality terrible, suspension uncomfortable - BMW X1 have great standard suspension with great compromise between comfort and handling, plus quality inside far better then Q5. Yes Xc60 and X3 quality inside very good but can't see point if I can achieve same points with smaller SUV and enjoying driving car that's feel like normal hatchback.
I just tried X3 and Q5. X3 is far superior by overall drivers driving experience. Yes Audi has more updated instruments pannel what does not impress me at all. Seats in those mid suv's should be more comfortable / bigger.
It’s got sharp crease and a very bold and prominent rear and front grille so I wonder what people are on about when the claim it’s boring or simple. Seems like they just don’t like it for other reasons but they are have the best road presence out of any cars. I spot these new Audi’s so easily pretty hard to miss nowadays.
In MY eyes it looks boring. Nothing special, no chic, not interesting, not exciting, no emotions. Ok, the new X3 is also not very special - but much better than the Q5.
Ok let me sum up my experiences. Audi: best at daily use for a humble driver. Its super easy to pilot, everything works and its really refined. Super light steering and floaty soft ride. Smooth and not slow engine with a really quick transmission with great chemistry with the engine. BMW: sporty option of the 3, its fun to drive but its not the smooth silent q5. Not much to say, its a BMW so everything is thought through. Everything is for the driver and everything makes sense. Volvo: if you are tired of going german and want to try something new but cheaper made go for volvo. Its good but its not on par with the germans. When I owned it for a week, the door rattled whenever I closed it and it drove me fucking crazy.
I drove Audi. Two times the automatic transmission had to be replaced, it leaks oil (there you stand, bent over the enignie to fill oil....wow), steeringhouse replaced, rear axes two times replaced. And that while you are paing the max. Those experiences with two Audis. No more Audi for me.
I think you were a bit unfair on the Volvo as the sport mode in geartronic auto is more responsive, there is an option for boot seat release and the handling is better without the air suspension option. Safety features and standard options are astonishing against both BMW and Audi where 80% is an optional extra.
I may be in the minority here, but NOT having the virtual(digital) cockpit in the Q5 is a big plus for me. Those classic Audi analog dials are very very classy.
Few things missed in this test (unintentionally, I hope). In Germany, X3/Q5 models with 252 hp petrol engine and similar equipment are sold for: BMW: 70 570,00 EUR Leasing 36 m. - monthly 687 EUR AUDI : 67 920,00 EUR Leasing 36 m. - monthly 550 EUR BMW has head display as standard in this version, AUDI has not. AUDI has Adaptive Air Suspension which is not available in BMW. What can you do in BMW if you need to rise your car? AUDI is equipped in Matrix LED which obviously overtakes BMW Adaptive LED. It wasn’t mentioned in Carwow test. Why? AUDI has ACC in full velocity range, BMW only to 210 km/h. What if you drive more? Except of features mentioned above, both cars are almost identically luxurious, safe and fast. But; AUDI is 2500 EUR cheaper and has better financing options. In leasing one has to pay 137 EUR/month more for BMW. Hmmm… Is BMW really better?
Which is why Volvo should be the choice of the three. I have a BMW X3. And it only has a fraction of the safety features of Volvo. Because of Volvos safety, the insurance is considerably cheaper. I also have a V90 cross country, same year of the x3. The Volvo insurance is literally half of the BMW.
I love my XC60, and it’s 10 years old. We’re planning to replace my husband’s S40 with an XC90 in the next couple years, and then hand the S40 down to our son. If you take care of them, Volvos will just keep going, and look and drive great doing it, even with a lot of miles. The S40 has 136,000 miles and my XC60 has 125k miles and they both handle like new and still look sharp. My husband loves the new body style but I’ll happily drive my 2012 XC60 into the ground. Volvos are a sound investment that feels like a splurge.
Great review. It is a very tough decision. For me, it's between the Volvo and the BMW. I like the Volvo interior colour scheme and simplicity, but not 100% sure about the display screen position of the Volvo? I prefer the position of the BMW navigation screen. I also really like the Volvo exterior design. It's an extremely close match. I came in, biased towards an X3 because i love BMW, but now i am undecided. I would have to sit in them and drive them myself to make the final decision. Reliability and fuel efficiency would also factor in, as well as maintanence costs. If pushed on the spot, i think i still have to go BMW.
Do you know that the volvo gives you the option to have the navigation in the gauge cluster aswell? u can have your navigation on the display screen OR between the gauges. That doesn't not the other ones have, and they cost way more than the volvo...
Volvo R design D5 is the one to get.. All the extras come as standard including 22" alloys. Presenter clearly favours German cars hence didn't even show all the graphics including satnav on dash screen. Volvo also comes with so many extra safety features which the Germans cannot compete with.
He literally just talked about how the XC60 has the worst interior quality, the worst handling, the worst ride quality, the slowest transmission and comes with the weakest engines of the three, so I ask you: how?
LilaEnderman worst ride quality? Show me where he said that? And imo the interior looks much better, as well as the overall design of the car. I like the infotainment system of the volvo much more. I don’t really give a fuck if the handling and the transmission are crazy sharp, because after all, this is a fucking SUV not a sports car.
Yankov At 11:13 he talks about the suspension and the ride quality. Everything else you said is just your opinion. And the fact that you prefer a better looking infotainment system (tho BMW's is more practical and easier to use) over superior transmission and handling is another story. And about being sporty.. what do you think the 'S' in 'SUV' stands for
So where exactly he said it has the worst ride quality? Also, he explicitly mentioned a couple of times that there is a "SLIGHT" difference between the cars in terms of their handling. I don't think you will feel the difference at all, unless you push it too much around corners, which i doubt you will ever do. And even though "S" stands for Sport, none of them is even close to being sporty. Adding the much better looking interior and exterior, having more room in the rear seats, being safer and cheaper than the competitors, it wins in my opinion.
Right, maybe the ride quality is a bit better at the BMW if you always drive curves very fast, but the couple of thousand euro/pounds lower price is a big plus for the Volvo.
BMW wins and Audi comes 2nd... Volvo is probably the best looking but its comes up short... Driving dynamics is horrible and paying 45k-50k for a luxury vehicle that rides like a cheap sedan is a L... You will feel each pot hole or bumps... For this price point it should ride more smoother..
you got it backwards. volvo has unnecessarily complicated powertrains. that's a bad idea for long term. repair out of warranty is gonna burn holes in the pocket. japan is the only country you should buy cars from for long term.
www.jdpower.com/press-releases/2017-uk-vehicle-dependability-study As you can see, here it is first for luxury vehicles from Europe. I don't trust these surveys anyway because they take into account trivial things like how easy it is to set up bluetooth.
It's either you have Swedish ancestry in you or you're a car salesman and either scenario is good. Swedish products are known to have all sorts of problems ranging from washing machines to cars. We noticed that they don't do enough product testing to meet technical standards. However, BMW has had a big reliability issues with the X5 where they were using plastic parts instead of metal in the drive train area which was surfacing after a few years of use. Bad idea on their part!
BMW has one more major flaw - there's a bit too much wind noise creeping in at 75 mph and above. You may not notice it in the UK with 70mph speed limit but if youlive in a place where you can go faster the X3 can be a bit disappointing.
Audi only for the name , bmw for power and look and at last volvo is for everything power ,look, exterior , interior ,safety ,and the next generation technologies. VOLVO!!
I want combination - looks of Volvo (interior with open pore woood and white seats), ride comfort and features (digital gauges) of Audi and fun factor of BMW.
I always forget Car Wow only has 700k subs... the production value is so high they should have three or four times that! Also, don't ever lose Mat. Best car reviewer on the platform!
@@Slaktrax Well it depends, compared to a civic sure, but most cars as sophisticated as on the list all have issues. Anything over 70 or 80 grand for some odd reason is way more expensive to keep on the road lol.
The test Volvo should have been equipped with the T6 engine, putting out 316 hp/295 torque. That, with the drive mode set at “Dynamic”, would have given the other two cars a run for the money.

The Volvo has outstanding build quality and comfort, my uncle has one and it's great
If you don;t look at the badge. The Volvo is not only the nicest SUV of these, but by far the best value for money too.
Got the X3 after watched the video. Absolutely love it gearbox response.
Which trim? I'm trying to learn the BMW ecosystem of trim levels and no idea what he's driving here either actually haha
@@Matt-wg9xn i've got the xdrive 30i luxury line, diesel is in the video but reckon both are share the same ZF 8 speed gearbox.
In Germany, X3/Q5 models with 252 hp petrol engine and similar equipment are sold for:
BMW: 70 570,00 EUR
Leasing 36 m. - monthly 687 EUR
AUDI : 67 920,00 EUR
Leasing 36 m. - monthly 550 EUR
BMW has head display as standard in this version, AUDI has not.
Except of features mentioned above, both cars are almost identically luxurious, safe and fast. But;
AUDI is 2500 EUR cheaper and has better financing options. In leasing one has to pay 137 EUR/month more for BMW. Hmmm… Is BMW really better?
Bmw is ultimate driving machine, when you drive a bmw it makes you smile which is called sheer driving pleasure.
I Love the XC60 Volvo the Best Car Respect for the X3 and Q5
Are you kidding? The Q5 is the cleanest looking SUV out of em in my opinion! xD
I would go for the BMW X3 because of its pleasant driving experience, stylish looks and edgeless practicality.
Have the xc60 and honestly can't fault it.Very easy to live with.
I quite like all of them to be honest....
Volvo=advanced features and design
BMW=funky and sport
Audi=passion and comfort
Q5 Good quality, look and not so expensive parts.
Was really rooting for the Audi, but agree with the final verdict on the X3
BMW X3 is my dream luxury car, I honestly respect it, its shape and interior design are amazing.
Still i like volvo the best 🙄
Volvo the winner for me and as usual great great review Matt 🏁🏁🏁
PEOPLE BUY CARS THAT SUITS YOUR NEEDS! All cars have their advantages and disadvantages, except the prius, has no advantage.
Silence plus the faint whirring of an electric motor.
Good fuel economy?
Hahaha, i laughed so hard xD
Toyota is selling more hybrid cars per year than total Audi car sales per year. So Prius is a Really BIG advantage over all hybrid manufacturers.
The safety technology in the Volvo is unmatched by the other 2 though. Why wasn't that taken into consideration?
Which is why Volvo should be the choice of the three. I have a BMW X3. And it only has a fraction of the safety features of Volvo. Because of Volvos safety, the insurance is considerably cheaper. I also have a V90 cross country, same year of the x3. The Volvo insurance is literally half of the BMW.
BMW X3 > Volvo XC60 > Audi Q5 > Mercedes GLC > Jaguar F-Pace
It's Q5 for me
I love my XC60, and it’s 10 years old.
I like that you didn't let your bias of owning a Volvo XC60 steer you away from giving it constructive criticism. Another really good video, thanks.
The volvo interior looks the best
I would choose the XC60 but the X3 is not bad. However the Q5 is a mix bag for me.
I’ve had the XC60, X3 and now just got a Q5 which I love the most.
U change cars more than i change shoes...
GLC is easily the best mid-size luxury SUV.
In Europe the x3 gets completely digital cockpit for the driver
ILIAS KOLOVATSIOS indeed and it's great. Love it
As an option....
Hopefully. This "hybrid" style looks awful in my opinion
Euroman Driver Not really. It looks bloody terrible. Not as good as Audi’s full digital display, nor as good as the original BMW analog displays.
I like the lip on the back of the Q5 because my stuff slides around and when I open the door stuff has fallen out 😂
Excellent comparison and breakdown. Found the dog part absolutely amazing! I might be a little bias but I knew the BMW would edge the others.
Air suspension or bust. Booooo BMW
Volvo R design D5 is the one to get.. All the extras come as standard including 22" alloys. Presenter clearly favours German cars hence didn't even show all the graphics including satnav on dash screen. Volvo also comes with so many extra safety features which the Germans cannot compete with.
7:33 Nice bend on the X3 roofline
Volvo wins by miles
Lighter interior always look good
BMW wins and Audi comes 2nd... Volvo is probably the best looking but its comes up short... Driving dynamics is horrible and paying 45k-50k for a luxury vehicle that rides like a cheap sedan is a L... You will feel each pot hole or bumps... For this price point it should ride more smoother..
For me, its the Audi Q5. No question
daniel the q5 is as dull as dishwater inside and out!
Yeah, for you it may be
Everyone was so triggered with the center console wobble test with the Kia but it's actually a good test.
BMW X3 is the WINNER! Totally agree 100%!
The agressive Bmw look is just beautiful, It looks like a sports car!
i will take the q5
In India Volvo has given this car the D5 235BHP diesel unit! Very powerful and certainly more than enough.
Audi is the best
Fr
He literally said BMW is the best
analog dials are the way to go.
Love the X3 M40i, but otherwise would go for the XC60
x3 is sexy but that volvo is up there next to it. love the volvo design
Your conclusion that the BMW edged out the Audi on interior quality really surprised me. I will definitely go and check it out.
He's a bmw fanboi, he always chooses bmw!
BMW X3 is the right choice. Better driving, infosystem, trunk, seating space and safety features. Audi Q5 and the Volvo XC60.
....and the XC60 won the Car of The Year
We need a 2021 version of this
volvo for longterm purchase
bmw should only be leased
you got it backwards. volvo has unnecessarily complicated powertrains. that's a bad idea for long term. repair out of warranty is gonna burn holes in the pocket. japan is the only country you should buy cars from for long term.
They both have 2.0 turbo as standard.
Volvo is dead last in reliability right now for luxury vehicles from Europe.
www.jdpower.com/press-releases/2017-uk-vehicle-dependability-study
As you can see, here it is first for luxury vehicles from Europe.
You may not notice it in the UK with 70mph speed limit but if youlive in a place where you can go faster the X3 can be a bit disappointing.
seriously beautiful shots!
Volvo and Polestar wouldn't have been this good without Geely of China taking over their ownership #MadeInChina2025 #BeltAndRoad 🇨🇳
Matt why you never hit the plastic in Q5 ? Plastic between driver/co-driver it's with very low gualty, also down on the dashboard and on the doors !
X3 is the textbook for all luxury suvs.
Audi only for the name , bmw for power and look and at last volvo is for everything power ,look, exterior , interior ,safety ,and the next generation technologies. VOLVO!!
I absolutly love the X3! Btw, it's the best at doing donuts in the snow ;)
I want combination - looks of Volvo (interior with open pore woood and white seats), ride comfort and features (digital gauges) of Audi and fun factor of BMW.
That X3 nose impression! 😂 I think that is the funniest thing I have ever seen on Mat's videos. Still chuckling. 👍
I always forget Car Wow only has 700k subs... the production value is so high they should have three or four times that! Also, don't ever lose Mat. Best car reviewer on the platform!
From what I have seen and read the Audi has the most tech options out of the three. Also has the best engine.
Pity about the unreliability they suffer with them.
