  • This is a janky kinda takedown that works really well if you can make the guy stand up tall. It's a little hard to get if you're doing straight bjj or wrestling, but if you can threaten or distract with strikes this is one way to beat someone to the clinch and take them down.
I've used this takedown a lot on guys who are WAY better grapplers than me... guys I can't do anything to in rolling or wrestling practice. As soon as we add strikes I can start hitting this on dudes who could normally stuff everything I do. It is heavily dependent on timing so keep trying it.
Coach Brian over on Teach Me Grappling has a more technical, wrestling based version of a similar takedown from a full body lock on his channel: • The Most EFFECTIVE Sel...

His techinique is great, but his videos are usually 10 minutes too long. It shouldn't take 20 minutes to teach a d'arce choke. I can't help feeling like he's more interested in gaming the algorithm than teaching a concise lesson. I rarely finish one of his videos for this reason.

I just looooove this takedown. The setup for a lateral suplex (is that even a word in english?) is the same, too, and if you are strong (or the other guy doesn't have half a ton on you) that throw can end the fight right there. (Basically the same movement, just with a little lift added. Judo airlines - flying is smooth, landing is hard.)

Fedor used this to great effect. But used a more of a big looping hay maker instead of straight cross. It sets up a great Catch 22, the guy has to turn into the haymaker to effectively block setting up his entery for the takebown or if they don't turn in to meet the haymaker are going to be blocking it with their teeth. And to everyone about to say haymakers don't work just take a look at look at any fight highlights from Fedor or Chuck Lebbell.

This is why, I watch your channel. In self defence you consider headbutts, knifes sticks and all the crazy stuff not used in sport. On UA-cam there are so many great coaches in various disciplines. They are very detailed in sports fighting methodology and that's good. But having said that. I like the way you modify moves and make them applicable for self defence. These practices would get you disqualified in sports fighting. You keep it functional and effective. Great 👍. I think The Elvis the pelvis move, went over his head.

I do allow myself to post a serious comment under and h2h video now and then so here it goes :p
This is some really good stuff. Please do more of this kind of (for the lack of a better term) multi-distance techniques that span striking to grappling and the like.
I was recently experimenting with a somewhat similar thing where you shoot for a double or single (depend if you guys are in an open or closed orientation) from a 1-2. Step in with a jab loading the lead leg for the two, free back leg steps through (stance change) and the now forward leg is used to penetrate.
Wrestling is there if we can set it up with some strikes in an mma like scenario. I'd love to see more breakdowns like this. Do a collab with TMG on this topic it'll be a blast.

Yes, this works on a bigger guy. I did it ounce on a guy who was about the same size as that guy and I am only 5'4 ". He was a ex football player in High School and had a little grappling knowledge.
We were sparring and we were in a clinch ,tried to take him down with a side choke type of head lock but it wasn't working on him. So I quickly dropped low and grabbed him around the waist and hooked the leg. We both went down with me on top. I got into the mount position and slapped him in the head then got off him and stood back up.

That would be great technique in a controlled situation like MMA but absolutely ignorant in the street or self-defense like you mentioned in the video in my opinion and experience in a real life situation out in the street where nothing can be predictable the last thing you want to do is go to the ground in any real life Street fight situation you leave yourself too vulnerable no matter how good you are

  • @richcapo

Woah. This looks like suicide for self defense - are you trying to get your eye gouged or your ear torn? Even holding his biceps, his fingers potentially can still reach your eye or your ear, especially if he has any deltoid strength. And then there’s always his free hand to worry about ...
Not everything that works in the ring works in real life - some maneuvers that are advantageous in one are disadvantageous in the other.
Don’t ever feed your opponent your soft spots in an actual fight. The street isn’t the octagon.
Also, keep in mind that your “opponent” here is offering NO resistance, which is completely unrealistic, and which makes your move that much more dangerous for you to execute in real life.

Dirt Diver, he does it as quickly as possible with whatever facilitating techniques are possible. Whether he lands it is up to many factors - none of which I’d like to risk - but one things that’s for sure is he doesn’t just stand there, offering no resistance, and let himself get pushed about like a rag doll.
Stay safe. Protect your soft spots. And remember that grappling a resisting opponent is different than pantomiming an attack on a compliant partner, which is all that hard2hurt does here.

@@richcapo So.. no actual answer then as to when the eye gauge happens?
And always protect your soft spots how exactly.. by not throwing punches? By not grappling? If you are in a fight and can't strike or grapple it is pretty drastically reducing your options I would think
It would be great to hear you say something specific about this situation instead of something cryptic and vague
