      @@LUC66631 lmao you clearly don't know what respect means, It's respectful to give people a proper burial. Especially if they were a soldier. Do you also cry "It's disrespectful to distrub soldiers and their final resting place" when militaries across the globe go in to retrieve the bodies for burial?
      How about when bodies were retrieved from the sunken ships in Pearl Harbor. Was that also disrepectful? You may want to sit the fk down jr and use what few brain cells you have to better understand what is happening here.

    2010 I was working on the island of Guadalcanal. Went hunting for pigs with the natives (spear and dogs). We found a crashed P-38 Lightning in the jungle with pilot still onboard. Notified the US military and they came out to the island about a month later to retrieve the body. I also found a US tank, machine guns, pistols, bayonets, helmets and a US brass-knuckles trench knife with 5 notches on it. Still a lot of artifacts there. All you need is a metal detector and info on where the battles took place.

    • @ALAXEILIN
      @ALAXEILIN Рік тому +117

      It was not a crater. The plane just pierced the soft boggy ground, pilots body flew after the heavy engine, thus everything was bent, squeezed, but not torn into pieces. Oil, fuel, clay and swamp preserved it all pretty well.

    • @G58
      @G58 Рік тому +81

      80 years worth of rain, foliage, branches and bark shedding, as well as whole trees falling and decaying in a forest located in an already wet boggy area will raise the ground level considerably, whilst gravity will tend to act upon heavy objects.
      None of this is surprising. Just look at the measures they’re using to shore up the sides of that hole to prevent collapse.

      I think it might be the clay that creates a sort of packing material to block out some of the decay and oxygen. I would hazard a guess that if the plane and pilot had crashed in a field of sand/black earth, most of the metal items would have eroded resulting in rusted artifacts. Interesting how nature can preserve or destroy items from the past. Glad to see the pilot’s family was able to receive his personal effects and receive a proper burial. I’m amazed at how well the items made from paper are preserved especially given the wet environment they are in and how many decades they were there.

    • @simppa2
      @simppa2 9 місяців тому +1

      Well seems a bit odd that metal parts are shiny and good looking and paper and ink are still in fine condition and just how "careless" they are while opening those things. But the pilot suit has holes and is just wet mess and pilot is totally melted, no bones no nothing...

    • @Nighterlev
      @Nighterlev 4 місяці тому

      Things like paper & items like that will not decay or rust due to Oxygen not getting to them. No oxidation was able to occur because of this, so they stayed in near perfect condition due to how deep they were.

    • @Nighterlev
      @Nighterlev 4 місяці тому

      @@simppa2 The Pilots body most likely dissolved into the surrounding mud they were digging out, it depends on the acidity of the soil & where it is. Sometimes mud can perfectly preserve a body as long as oxygen doesn't get down to it (think of it like buring a body in concrete), other times the entire body, bones & all, will dissolve into the surrounding mud due to what minerals & the acidity of that mud. The clothing & everything else will completely stay in tact tho.
      The oil sheen seen in part of the vid is essentially what the guys body turned into, decomposing organic oil.

    For those that may not know, the 12.7mm gun is a 50 caliber. And that plane should have had that one 12.7mm/50 cal, and two 7.62mm/30 cals on it. It is cool that the soil there preserves things like that.

    Absolutely incredible find. As a person old enough to have grandparents who fought in that war and hearing all of the stories from it, this is about as close to a time machine as we can get. Some of this stuff looks like the crash was yesterday. It's a slog but the mud and ice has been a perfect way to store it. A low oxygen low acidity environment. I hope they don't let that stuff dry out before putting it in a controlled environment. You guys did an amazing job excavating it.

    Amazing find and your abilities to get that deep into the swamps where he and his plane has been waiting to be discovered sadly for the last 80+ years. God Bless this pilot and crew if there was anyone else aboard? But we hope if he has family still, they'll be able to close this chapter in his life of what became of grandpa or great grandpa by now. You guys do amazing work to get to these places and then going meters deeper into the muddy earth to retrieve these people and their equipment. It's amazing how when there's very little to no oxygen present how preserved these artifacts are. You could almost clean that gun and fire it! The paperwork is in outstanding condition outside of the missing photo. But if that's all that was destroyed, that's really not too bad! 😊👍😉

      @@MrTruckerfsure, gunpowder is wet, and firing pin probably well oiled and moves - but I bet, after 80 years the spring of the "hammer", that was in fully armed position - is dead, so it's "three times safe". I wonder, why pilot didn't release the hammer, and then pull it half way to safe mode? (((
