Thank you my friend for visiting my home and for having me on your channel with your amazing subscribers and viewers. I'm humbled and honored that you have taken the time to tell a story that is central to my experience.
Thanks for letting me tell your story brother! I hope we get to do it again sometime soon! 😉🤙
Love your channel Thom!
Dang! Wasn’t expecting this collab 🤙
The honour is all ours for being able to listen to you both!
@@DarwinOnthetrail let's get after that film project we talked about, my friend!
Wow, I’m blown away….
I’ve ignored the interviews with Thom thus far because I just wasn’t interested in who was doing the interview. Now, I know exactly why I’ve waited so long.
Thank you Darwin, I never expected this from you, but I definitely want more.
What a fantastic interview - I stumbled across Thom Pollard's channel while looking for info after the discovery of Irvine's boot, and was just so impressed with his integrity, not just for being a part of the discovery of Mallory, but for being the beating heart of that party, showing his sense of great empathy toward a man who had been lost for so long, a man that was as real and filled with the same allure for Everest as all who came after him. So it was truly fascinating to see Thom interviewed like this - this guy is 100% the real deal, a true soul who is quite literally the wise & heartfelt man of the mountain...then, to have the interview close with the discovery of Irvine's boot and Thom saying "never say never", it's all come full circle in the most serendipitous way...has Thom really hung his boots up afterall, lol? He's the embodiment of living history - thankyou for such a great interview!
Absolutely spellbinding. Thank you for filming, editing and sharing this amazing story. And to Thom for sharing what are obviously such important moments in his life with us.
Great video!! I was gifted the book "The Lost Explorer: Finding Mallory" while working in Colorado. It was signed by Conrad Anker. I have read many books on climbing, but that one i really have a connection with every time i read it. I was raised and live in new england, and have hiked many mnts in the area. It's good to see someone from the area who has a connection with the search. I really hope there's more parts coming.
Thanks for this Darwin, excellent stuff.
To think I met you in Switzerland in July doing the TMB and now you’re interviewing Thom who “met” the one and only George Mallory!
It’s my link to mountaineering mythology,
Thanks again Darwin. Good luck in getting future interviews like this . Who knows we may bump into each other at Everest Base Camp!
I can’t get enough of these mountaineering videos and history.
What an incredible discovery and story. I’ve loved your channel for years and now loving your documentary.
Great job Darwin, this is awesome content, well done! I’ve always been enamored with this Everest mystery and the recent discovery of Sandy Irvine is incredible. Crazy that both Conrad Anker and Jimmy Chin, both close friends and climbing partners, respectively discovered the two climbers remains.
I love Everest Mystery as a chanel. I love listening to this Legends stories and his take on climbing and life. Such an incredible piece. Thank you Guys for sharing this.
Man, he’s great! What a delightful personality and energy.
Just an incredible story. Great to see you in my hiking backyard. One of your best all time videos.
Brilliant ! I do so hope you get to go back and work with Thom, if that is what you want. This content gave me goosebumps.
I have never heard about this story . all i can say is this is so cool and meeting the person who helped uncover this amazing story. thank you for sharing Darwin
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it. ❤️
One of the best doctor documentaries I’ve ever seen well done my friend
I went hiking out front today, The first day snow flew. Fall is turning to winter it feels great.
...took my breath away - TY Nic
This is the best video Darwin has done.
Thank You! I love telling stories like this in more of a Documentary Film format. They take quite a bit of time, but super rewarding creatively. Now... if only UA-cam will actually allow people to see it 🤷♂️
I love Thom's UA-cam channel and have been watching with great interest since Jimmy Chin's team found Sandy's foot. I highly recommend the book about Sandy's life written by his grand niece.
Very well done interview Darwin. The topic is right up my alley, being an outdoor enthusiast. Thanks for bringing us into his home and hearing an authentic tale. I’m been following Everest news and adventures since 1996 and I never say never.
Great video Darwin, love all of this Everest history.
I was enthralled with everything mountaineering in the early nineties. Read all the books and played outdoors. Got into the 1924 tragedy and devoured the findings when Mallory was found and opened up new avenues to read about and learn.. Then life did what life does and things chugged along. The discovery of Sandy Irvines partial remains grabbed a hold me and flung me back 25yrs. How did the time pass by so fast?? Anyhow my trips to the books stores are replaced by UA-cam and I’m so happy to have found this interview. I think these stories need to be told, especially in this day and age where the world is all topsy turvy.
This was incredible!! That bit at the end gave me goosebumps!
I really enjoyed this interview and glad that Darwin was able to break away from his usual videos.
I was so excited to see that you were covering this. Amazing interview. His description of the moments of the discovery was priceless. I'd love to see more on the history of mountaineers
Wow I saw Lost on Everest and that’s how I got interested in Mt Everest and I watched everything I could find. everything. 🇨🇦😆
wow 2 of my favourite youtubers , niceeeee ❤, bye the way I am doing Everest Base camp next March 🇳🇵, love from Malta 🇲🇹
Irvine was found this year, 2024. It was only a boot, foot, and sock. His name was embroidered on the sock.
Hey at least some part of him could still be found. And a century later at that.
Wow..Just Wow Darwin!! Well done🎉.. I think you have a natural ability to this type of interview /production.
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it. This is the style of video I love doing over anything else. Too bad the algorithm doesn’t want to show it to the majority of folks that are subscribed. Not “click baity” enough & not about Gear 😅
@DarwinOnthetrail Not a fan of the algorithm. Organic growth could knock this one out of the park!
Will be watching it again. Thank you always for your videos on the Pinhoti Trail. You had a significant impact on the number of hikers seen along this trail I love so much! #PinhotiForever
Unfortunately that's not how it works anymore. Organic growth has sadly become a thing of the past. If it's not flashy enough for the algorithm to show it, then it doesn't happen. Sad, but true
Omg! What an ending, can't wait to see the documentary! Looks like Darwin found a mentor.
I live right beside the AT in Virginia next to dismal falls, I've watched about every video about Everest, and very familiar with Thoms story, if he is wanting you to go with him there, then you have an opportunity for immortality being apart of Everest history, take it a run.
Great video.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank You! I've always been fascinated by this amazing mystery!
I pushed the like button, but absolutely loved the interview. Both of you inspired me. Thanks!
I pushed the down button, 👎🏻clickbait, NO BODY was ever found, A single FOOT 🦶🏻 was found!
Nope… they recently found Irvine’s foot. This video is about finding Mallory’s body in 1999. It helps if you watch the video before leaving a comment that makes you look silly 😉
I love this so much! I don't think that anyone has inspired tge adventurer in me quite as much as Mallory and Irvine. I bought the book, "Ghosts Of Everest" sight unseen and I was transfixed with Everest forever.
I’m sorry, I’m new here and I simply had to mention that I LOVE your house. The color and design work great with all of the greenery! Great vid
What a wonderful video ! Very moving and thoroughly enthralling. Thank you.
Such a cool story! Sounds like another Nepal trip needs to happen!
It definitely is! Thom is such a fascinating & awesome person.
Wow! Great interview with Thom. I cant imagine a bad one, though. I love his you tube channel and have been binge watching him. Thank you. I just subscribed to your channel also!
Enjoyed this video and great discussion.
Thankful Mr. Pollard made it down and home safely from each expedition.
God Bless!
Wow - just Wow. History is so exciting! Have always been in awe of M & I. God rest their souls. Safe travels & hoping for safe climbing/travels to you all. Thx for this video‼️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
There's so much geography about our Country I don't know. I had no idea there were mountains in New Hampshire. It's beautiful. Having lived in California and Arizona I've never been to the east coast.
This stuff is good…. I just love this video and an overview on his life and direction. Excellent
I love this man and I hope I have a fraction of his drive when I am his age.
Great interview! I can't wait to see this play out, I hope you find the camera!
I did the EBC trek in 2018 and can say without a doubt, it was one of the most transformative experiences of my life. I encourage everyone to go. There is more natural beauty there than anywhere else I've ever been.
Thanks for the content!
Darwin thank you, one of your best!
Oh, I like this format. Very interesting interview!
Great video ❤ great man 👍🏼
I feel that it was good that he didn't go and forces himself ... god knows what could happen if ignoring signs to stop and turn around. You did everything right 🍻
I lived in Laconia for years. Loved it
*Lacedaemon
Excellent! Loved it.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it. 👍
Fascinating well made video Darwin, i enjoyed every minute. What a true gentleman Thom Pollard is. Loved the "ending" of the video, or is it the "beginning" ? 🦅⚪✴️
I got goosebumps. I was listening to an audiobook about the search for Sandy Irvine 😳
Love Thom Pollard, great interview.
Intriguing interview. You've upped your game and we see a new Darwin emerging.
Outstanding story telling and documentary. 👍🏼 ⭐️
This was cool…Im an Everest junkie😏🥾🥾⛺️
really enjoyed this, thank you for sharing
From gear review (no hate, learned a lot) to important human history. It's almost an...evolution. Thanks Darwin!
Excellent work. I could have listened to this with interest for hours. 🦑
We read about him in our Senior Cambridge literature. Since then
he was etched as an icon unparalleled. Was not expecting this
some of your best work!
Thank You!
Impressive how the body was well preserved.
Since i have been hiking and minor stints into backpacking with my own adventure postponed to next summer, I am attempting my own thru hike of the JMT (an area i have loved since my first trip to Yosemite)I have followed many trips through UA-cam, Discovery and other documentaries about Everest. Though I have no intentions of going to the Top of The World, I, however, do have a desire to go EBC and stand in awe of the many who have paved the way to ultimate climb in any adventures dream.
I believe George Mallory made it to the top and summited but he fell down to his death and he deserves the right to have that honor of being the first to summit mount Everest and it should be changed in history.
Or he could have fallen and died during his acent, we'll never know.
Love Thom,, ❤ He's The Best.
Great job
Great content I remember I was fascinated with this story in 1999
What about the locals that help you carry all the equipment?
Don’t forget to read “The Climb” after “Into Thin Air”. It’s another account of the tragic climb, but told by Anotoli Boukreeve. He was a Mountain Guide who helped rescue people that day. Very good and quite different than Krakauers account.
The expression about the "the hill you're willing to die on" is often used in a negative way. ...as in this is, not that hill. If ever there was one, Everest would be it. Great topic and documentary, Darwin. Can't wait to see what's next, cheers! 🍻
I remember the discovery of Mallory and went to an exhibition of the artefacts and some other Mallory/Irvine memorabilia, along with a showing of an IMax film about Everest. It was really big news at the time.
Wow, such a great video. I’ve got to say Darwin, I’d like to see you do more of this kind of video.
Amazing story! Love this
Nice job Thom!
My grandpa was one of the Vietnam photographers. RIP Floyd. 💕
I’m hooked.
Well done to you both - great stuff
Reminds me of a guy who was trying to break the record for the longest dirt bike jump, I get the appeal to do big things but when you have little kids you can’t be trying to do things that have a high likelihood of death. My two cents anyway, and great video Darwin.
Thank goodness they found him and hopefully he'll make a full recovery. 🙏
🤔
thank you for this youtube
Darwin onthe…
…DOCUMENTARY?
Outstanding quality and videography!
Great interview. Will we see a to be continued part?
Hey , the thing about Everest is that If you die there you stay there until you can be recovered , cause the winds , an everything about recovering a body there , will prolly result in your death !!! RIP SIR EDMOND HILLARY New Zealand Ledgend fr 🇳🇿💯
Dude you did it…. Now I will do it too…. As always in your footsteps Sir Darwin
Wow! Fascinating! Thank you!
Love all your videos but especially love this format! Also, does this mean you're going with him to search??! Would be all over that but also do what's best for you
Good story , great video
Sadly the Mallory's boots might have answered the question of did they reach the summit but they were not analyzed. However that may be answered by Irvin's boot. The micro particles on the boots (assuming they are on the boots still) can be chemically analyzed to see if they touched the summit rocks which are totally different chemically from the gray and yellow band rocks. I guess Mallory's boots could be exhumed and compared to Irvin's boot too.
The boot had the foot in it? THEy pulled it out and buried it. Maybe the remnant of Irvine will reveal some day, as the glacier goes down
Excellent documental.
Well that's quite a cliffhanger. Did they find the camera with the second guy?
This is part one, right? I need part two. Just sayin.
Very cool!
This video was great!!
Ray Jardine would be great too, if you can get hold of him!!
Darwin the pro, thanks
🤙
Very interesting. Thank you
I respect what he did, but I do disagree with him when he said he wouldn’t show the gps coordinates, Mallory’s family deserves to know where he is
I agree. Also, I cannot understand why he just left Mallory there with no proper explanation of what happened to him. What was the purpose of just leaving him there? This is very confusing to me.
maybe he just don't want anyone risking their life going there
@chewcheeboon9331 that's not up for him to decide though. These people are well aware of the risks.
When I first saw this I thought it was a story about a man who somehow survived on Everest for 75 years and was rescued. 💀
Wow!
Im curious, was his face intact like the rest of his body?
Awesome video! I had no idea he was in NH 😂 btw…what’s the pic at 12:32 …?
