The schrute family tradition is that the beatest mench will play good pranks or "gütenpranke" on the groom. This good prank, was the fake out that Dwight wouldn't have a best man, untill the camera pans to reveal Micheal, showing that this was one of Jim's "gütenpranke".

It’s not that hard to cheekily look at someone.
@@fulltimeslackerii8229 You would think so, but most people can't control their face well and can't deliver a "physical punchline" very well. Had it been someone else, it might look more awkward or poorly paced of a movement. Acting, I believe, is one of those things that look easy but is actually reaaally difficult to do, especially considering that this scene was probably shot over and over again, which break up your personal delivery/actions.

Dwight's continued acceptance of Jim's help without suspicion is one of his most endearing qualities, and makes me think that 10% of Jim's pranks were purposeful flukes that ended in Dwight's favor just so every one of his future pranks were met with, "well maybe this time will be like when I tricked Jim into giving me five dollars, or when I traded him for those magic legumes" (but, much more realistically, Dwight probably just feels untouchable with Jim out of the office, lol)!

However, earlier in the series Dwight had said “i am older, i am wiser, dont mess with me.” Back then he used his slightly older age as an advantage against Jim, but i think its interesting how he tried to use their similarity in age as an advantage to Jim. I read a while ago that as per union rules, whatever his salary was last negotiated per episode is what he would have made. I think it was 175k. His lines were limited solely because they wanted it to be a surprise and if her had more than x amount of words he would need to be credited and the info would have leaked and be specifically requested it.
