The nurse being Jenna's real husband is 100% irrelevant to why they're laughing-they're laughing because what Krasinsksi is saying & doing is fucking hilarious.
@Stephen C: the actors are not laughing about that. They're laughing at Krasinski's jokes. Also, the dialogue you're referring to is in the aired episode footage, NOT in this blooper footage. So as Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka would say, "WRONG, sir, WRONG!"
I think it's easier/more forgivable to make mistakes when acting in a movie/tv series over live theater because with a movie/tv show they can just refilm and edit until they have the shot they need, vs in live theater you can't really make up your mistake you made. But in any case, unless you're really terrible at acting or forgetting what you need to do you aren't going to be fired.
Yeah, it probably depends on the production and project. I remember seeing old Nickelodeon sitcom actors constantly apologizing and not being able to fully go... 'freeform' after making a mistake -- the atmosphere was kinda tense.
I'm an actor in Canada and mistakes are normal and allowed... on EVERY production. An intelligent director will even welcome the mistakes because they give everyone an opportunity to go deeper into the scene. While the actor is trying to remember his lines, the lightning crew can make some adjustments, as well as the sound guy or anybody who can make something better. Even if actors get the scene right on first take, the cameraman rarely does. You'll have a mic in the frame, a reflection in the windows and some annoying background noise. Big productions are the worst for that - soooo many people all working in a small space - mistakes are bound to be made. No punishment for that. I've seen big name actors learn their lines on their phones while the director was counting down to action. The ONLY time that mistakes are truly not welcome is when we're dealing with explosions, wet clothes (that will need to dry before doing the scene again) and any irreversible action. If something like a vase breaks in the scene and there is only 2 copy of the vase on the set.... Actors are not magicians nor extra-talented artists. Actor is a job like any other. If - in an absurd reality - there was such a thing as "punishments" for "failing" too many times, it would have to be stipulated in due form in every actor's contract with the production. The production would have to set a specific number of "fails" before applying penalties or whatever. The actors would have to agree to not fail so many times, as per stipulated in their contract. It would be a nightmare... (sorry for my poor english, I'm french speaking)
