Burger Tuning BMS JB+ Piggyback tune for Mini Cooper S Review

  • My fellow Automotive Fanatics who own the Mini Cooper, today’s product review and DIY will encompass the process of adding on the tried and trued Burger Motorsports (BMS) JB+ piggyback.
This plug-in module was used on a 2013 Mini Cooper Countryman S with the N18 turbo charged engine. However, BMS makes the JB4 (the best, most powerful plug-in modules) for the B38/B46/B48/B58 engines as well.
Why use the JB+ and not an ECU tune?
    - lower cost
    - retains factory warranty
    - easily removable and reversible
On a scale of difficulty, I would rate this project a 1 out of 10 and will literally take you 5mins to install or uninstall. It’s simply that easy!
    Video Timeline:
0:26 - intro to the DIY
    6:02 - installation of the JB+
    7:52 - initial driving impression
11:52 - in vehicle boost levels with JB+
13:21 - in vehicle boost levels at OEM levels
13:44 - final thoughts and comments
If you guys have any questions, please post below and I will do my best to help. As always, thank you for watching and supporting my channel! Until the next time, this is Peter, The Automotive Fanatic!

The extra boost, 1.8-2.3 is great for added power for such little cost. I can definitely feel the oomph building through the rpm, more noticeably from just under 3k to just over 4500. Though, the benefit that I found most useful is, it makes the power delivery smoother. It feels as if it is the right amount of boost that should've been coming from the factory. This module is a welcome addition in my coming roadtrip from Chicago to San Francisco, driving through higher elevations in the rockies.

Issac, this JB+ has been on my R60 for 6 months now and I still enjoy the extra power it gives you. Keep in mind, it's not a huge amount of power, but just enough to give you that extra "kick".

I've owned many of the piggy backs, this is the only one that does not throw codes on N18 R56's anything else would have to be done by mario at detroit tuned. Also the JB+ works a little better if you have a few things working for you for example, intake, exhaust, intercooler, turbo muffler delete, noise maker delete, and a BOV spring upgrade along with a turbo blanket. Those are all bolt ons, the JB+ is more of like the cherry on top that makes it pop harder and take off harder. I've logged 19lbs on sport mode on a 2011 MCS and that little thing with supporting mods makes the car jet. Anything less than a stage 2 its the best bang for the money at 300 dollars without having to go to a dyno or paying a dyno tech.

Ramon, I come from heavily modified Audis and am trying my hardest not to head down the rabbit hole with the MCS. Having the JB+, the MCS is a tad faster when I need it to be which is fine. Hopefully I can keep this car as is for a while.

If I add JB4/JB+ to a Mini One 1.5 (102hp), do I get the same results as a Mini Cooper 1.5 (136hp)? Engine is the same. Or in other words. Is the boost increase relative to the stock map (e.g. +0,3 bar) or absolute (1,1bar)?
