can you do a video on how to change 981 fog lights and repair side mirror not unfolding? thanks
I really liked and enjoyed your video. I especially, liked your suggestions about any trouble spots one might encounter and your suggestions i.e. use of 3m TAPE to hold down the display screen mounting bracket was a great idea. I would have liked to have you show more about mounting the front camera. Especially, since you briefly showed where you mounted in camera below the detachable license plate bracket. Most videos show the camera mounted on the upper lip of the front bumper just in front of the grill. All in all it was a great video.😀
Thanks for your video! Can you tell me which resistors to buy (I see 50, 180, 390, 470 & 560 ohms available)? TIA!
It's been a while since I did this DIY so I cannot remember which resistors I used. I do recall though, having to use 2 to decrease the brightness of the LED. My suggestion would b to grab some 180s and just go from there.
@@TheAutomotiveFanatic Thanks!
It doesnt take a rocket scientist to understand what happenened ' DONT REST ON THE HYDRAULICS !!!! Make aure the lock arms are i place !!! - you 'te starment "I'm lucky to be alive" is somewhat melodramatic - if you ever thought you would get under the car before it is MECHANICALLY locked you need your head tesing !!! - would you get under a car with ANY hydraulic lift ??? Hydraulics ate ALWAYS subject to leakage !!
Darwin moves in strange ways 😂
Thanks for you input.
I wish I saw this years ago. I kinda gave up using my quickjack because of how hard they are to move on the ground. It's so frustrating to get them aligned perfectly under the jack points when they weigh 100lbs each and you're on your belly. I have smooth concrete in my garage but rough concrete in my driveway. I do most of the lifting in my driveway, so I'm not sure if those balls will roll well there. But either way, I'm looking at scissor lifts now, so IDK, think I've given up. I do love the idea though.
A few viewers have mentioned that they use this idea on their driveway. Most mentioned that it did not work well if the driveway wasn't smooth.
I had the exact same problem when I got my quickjack. What happened was that the driver side failed to lock automatically. When I called quickjack and complained they sent me a new lock arm. Guess what . Same problem. So after careful examination and thanks to my mechanical abilities I found out that there was a design problem. I fixed it and it never gave me any problems after that. I also made some mods to make it easier to move it around without lifting it. I also got rid of the original pads and made my own using my own design. It is now made of steel and rubber. Works perfectly now.
Good think you were not hurt and was able to devise something to work better!
Men!!!! I'm sure you been hit with a lot of questions.....and here is another one....I have a 2014 981 cayman base...and I hate the OEM stereo....is there's a chance I can do the same? and how tonbuy the right one? Great video BTW!!!
Thanks for watching and the support. What PCM does your 981 currently have? There is a good chance, you can get CarPlay/AA to work in it.
2025 and my 5000 is different. I will need thick blocks on both ends.
If possible, please share as I would love to see the differences.
What's the new system that raises them up that high?
QuickJack's new system is the "TL" system.
I have 3 kids, will I have an issue with rubbing the fender with the tires?
If you're stock height, you should have no issues.
@james ward
Thanks Assam india 🇮🇳.
Cool shirt bro 😎
I used the truck adapters to lift my Honda Passport and the rubber pad split on the top and the adapter slid out from under the lift point and flipped to its side and half of the vehicle fell onto the jack. These jacks are good, its just the blocks and adapter that shouldnt be trusted
So glad you did not get injured!
100%
Does it stay on all the time or does it auto turn off if it’s not in use?
It turns off when the car shuts down.
Speed display turns red when 50mph or above, anyway to change that?
I do not believe you can.
My Linux version can’t connect to tesla BT, it will always show connect fail, please try again. Does anyone have the same issue? I really hope can solve this issue. Now I only can let my iPhone to connect to F9 but it will cause the CarPlay will not have voice when using navigation or play music
The older screens do not have an option to choose Device or Original BT. Unfortunately this will not do what you want it to do anymore due to Tesla's firmware updates.
Does the climate controls communicate with the main screen?
It mirrors the main screen.
Thanks Peter very explanatory.
Thanks for watching and the support!
I've watched hundreds of how to automotive videos over the years. This one was absolutely one of the best done. Slow, precise and thought out.
I appreciate the kind words. Thank you!
What are your thoughts for the 20 inch model y. 255 40/20. Mine rides rough
For the 20" model, I would personally run a 265/40/20 setup. This will help smoothen out the ride.
So a little wider tire? I’ll give it a try. Thanks for feedback
Thank you awesome video you the man
Thank you for watching and the support!
I tried this mod and it works but the metal balls mark up regular concrete. My drive way was starting to look kids were drawing on it with white crayons. Scratches everywhere. Little to no marking in my garage as the concrete is a higher psi and smoother. Now looking for another mod.
Thank you for sharing this little hack. Yes, I could see how the bearings would eat up rough concrete. Please let me know if you run into any other hacks that work better!
Thanks
I hope this helps!
Someone should file a report about this quickjack 7000tl to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. There is a safety issue with it. One can report unsafe products to the CPSC at SaferProducts.gov
Can you please provide the source(s) and part numbers for the bearing? Thanks
It's in the video description.
Was this the 5000TL or 7000TL set?
5000TL
That polish job is incredible
Thank you...a good detailer goes a long way!
@ I’d say they are a great detailer.
I purchased a 2024 used Model Y, which came with the Mini Screen installed. Most of the functions work fine, but the % charge and remaining distance displays bogus values. Any ideas what could be wrong?
You may need to update the firmware. Take a look at this: www.reddit.com/r/TeslaModelY/comments/1ddiwp7/hanshow_mini_display_bad_behavior_after_model_ys/?rdt=57401
Just installed these wide angle mirrors recommended by Peter. What a difference! The view on both mirrors, especially the drivers side has completely changed for the better safety wise. Much bigger and wider view of the road, lanes and vehicles. These mirrors covers most of the blind spots the OEM's did not. I could not believe what a difference these mirrors made. Thanks Peter once again for your informative, detailed video.
I'm happy to see you got these! It's a true game changer for the better.
Thank you. Can we use steering wheel commands to navigate through Androis Auto and choose between apps ? Can we increase or decrease sound volume ?
Yes you can, but it's limited in terms of control.
😅
I have model y with 20” induction wheels. What’s a good mm spacers to buy?
I would go with 15mm all around.
@ thank you
I wonder what it’d cost to have someone do this
Prices will vary depending on your location. If you're local to Southern California, you can reach out to me directly and I will do the installation.
Thank you. I just got my QJ 5000TLX, and I saw your first video and then this follow-up video. So, I tested both 5/8 and 1-inch ball bearing rollers on the sides (did not use the 3m during the testing stage on the sides) and, I agree it rolls better with the 1 inch. So I installed the 1-inch on the sides (this time with the 3m). Thank you. It makes it easier.
Glad you found this video useful!
I totally want this installed on my Model Y. Too complex for me to do though. Thanks for the video!
It's 100% DIYable. Try it out!
Looks great. I'll be getting one on my 981. Undecided on the colour. Do you have a promo code to Porsche master. From Australia, merry Christmas
It's a worthwhile addition to the 981 GT4. Unfortunately, I do not have a discount code.
As a potential new customer for a mid rise lift and having looked around at what's available, these " Quick jack" lifts look particularly "Weedy" to me with much stronger units available from other manufacturers. You wouldn't catch me going under any vehicle supported by these lifts.
Yes, definitely do your research before buying one. Having used the QJ for over 6 years, I was fairly confident with the safety. However, after this incident, I lost all faith.
The other thing that's a bad design is the ratchet bar being on the outside of each lift. This means that once the central hydraulic rams lower onto the ratchet, the support moves from supporting each lift centrally (a stable condition) to the side (an unstable condition.
@@richardmarsh1332 That's a great point...if they had dual safety locks, it would be much more secure.
What would you say is better magbak or viceed
Honestly, both do a fantastic job of securing your phone. I would choose the one that's priced more competitively.
I was trying to use my phone as a hotspot, but couldn’t figure that part out
You were on the right path...set up your phone as a hot spot, then go into settings and wifi in to your hotspot.
Thanks for the follow up. I bought the bearings and placed them so the qj is just barely off the ground. I need as much clearance as I could get to be able to slide the lift under my S2000. I haven’t tried it out yet, my power unit was damaged in shipping so I’m waiting on the replacement now.
My recommendation, is for you to buy a set of low rise ramps. Once you get your S2K on them, you'll easily be able to slide the QJ underneath. I do that on all my lowered cars.
It turns out that this outfit has a similar product for CarPlay and my F30. Do you have any manufacturer-related insights that I should be aware of?
Hey Bill, If I were you, I would actually go with a screen replacement. The size is larger and more crisp.
Is that a p3 compatible board? I'm pretty sure I have a pair of 667 (600?) P3 S1 cpu's at home
Sorry, I am not following you here. What do yo mean?
@TheAutomotiveFanatic I asked if that mo.bo is pentium3 compatible, as I may have a matching set of pentium3 600ish he can use to test
Since 2012, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) has been a mandated safety feature in North America. As an extension of the ABS system, it uses wheel speed sensors in conjunction with specialized inputs from the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) and Yaw Sensor to maintain vehicle stability during loss of directional control. ESP operates through autonomous braking, acceleration, and even steering corrections to prevent accidents. When tire size is altered, the resulting change in axle RPM disrupts the calibration of the entire system. The ECM can detect this discrepancy, often disabling the ESP system. Warning lights on the dashboard alert the driver that a critical, legally mandated safety feature-designed to save lives-is no longer active. At this point, the vehicle manufacturer has fulfilled its legal obligation and is effectively absolved of liability. Furthermore, the Department of Transportation (DOT) mandates that the tire information placard on the driver’s side door frame specify the OEM tire size and type approved during the vehicle’s safety testing. Deviating from these specifications transfers liability to the vehicle owner and installer, who must accept responsibility for any safety or performance issues caused by non-compliant modifications.
Why is there a drain plug on the bottom of the diff? What is this used for? Isn’t the trans and diff in the same housing and thus in the same fluid?
It's been a while since I did this DIY and frankly, forgot the reasoning as to why I drained from 2 areas.
I see you're a bmw guy. I have a G82. What pads are you using for the jack points on modern day BMWs? Are you using any from the kit? Or did you buy aftermarket? TIA!
Yep, I have worked on many BMWs. I ended up buying a set of aftermarket pads on Amazon designed for the BMWs.
Very nice work 👍
Thank you for watching and the support!
How thick was the wood you used for the bigger roller bearing?
I believe it was 5/8".
Thanks!
