Now, you need to watch the Kennedy Center Honors show where the band, Heart, did this song for members of Led Zeppelin!! So cool...the original drummer had passed and his son played drums for this!
Led Zeppelin is one of a kind and the mold was broken. Their music was so original. None sound the same or repeat a previous song. I always wonder what they would have come up with if their drummer Jon Bonham hadn't have died in 1980. They didn't play together for more than a decade after that. There was a Kennedy Center honors for Led Zeppelin in 2012 that was really great, especially Heart doing Stairway to Heaven at the end that brought tears to the band members eyes. You should check it out.
I think they were close to the end of the line as a band and more then likely would have gone their own ways not long after the last album. Just my two cents. But doesn't take away that Zep is one of the greatest bands of all time and always will be.
Dud, you nailed this reaction, “ they broke the genre”, “ they broke music“! You are so on point. Thank you for such a great explanation and interpretation of how these guys were so great.
A lot of Beatles songs especially in their later years were meshes of 2 or more songs together. Usually they would just write catchy verses, without finishing the song, getting stuck, and then pulling it out a year to rearrange and use as the ending of another song that needed more. This is why, fans trying to apply meaning to songs, thinking it is all heart felt and sentimental, miss the boat, because they are just clever strings of words that rhyme or fit together.
Well, true story on this one. In 1976, my senior year in high school, I was on the Baton Squad and our band was chosen to play in a parade in Disney World Florida, to celebrate the Bicentennial year. It was 32 hours on a bus from CT to FL, with a kid who brought a tape recorder, that is all we had back then, LOL---and played this song the entire time down and back, except when we were sleeping!!!!! It is bad enough being on a bus that long with only short stops, LOL!! I never quite thought of the song the same way again. You brought me right back to the bus ride, LOL!! 🤣
Fun reaction. For an even stronger Lord of the Rings feel with some direct lyrical Echoes. Check out a fan favorite and also a huge hit, over the hills and far away.
Robert Plant wrote the song & stated he always gets a different meaning of the words when he thinks about it. I like the melody, don't pay attention to the lyrics....don't bang on me for that! Good commentary Michael! 👍😎
Rock radio stations often play a countdown of the top 100 rock song of all time during the Memorial Day weekends. This song is usually #1. Glad you took the advice of listening to it again, only as the way we all knew it.
I always enjoy watching LZ live but what I love about the studio version of "Stairway to Heaven" is hearing Page playing the acoustic guitar. During concerts, he used only an electric guitar when they performed this song. Edit: Enjoy your reactions to Led Zeppelin, only wish you'd do them more often. ;)
The tin whistles or recorders in the beginning are actually played on a mellotron. An early version of what became synthesizers years later. The Beatles started using a mellotron back in the Sgt. Pepper, and Magical mystery tour albums.
In a video on how Starway to Heaven was constructed, Jimmy said that John Paul Jones actually played the recorders. The Mellotron was used to recreate the sound of the recorders in their live concerts.
This old man is sitting here with tears. I love how these young people react to the music of our youth. I believe music such as this will never be created again. What a great time we grew up in.
They didn't mesh two songs, The innovative creative way it was built starting slow and adding more and more instruments and getting louder and faster until it finishes with an all out wild ride. your reaction and explanation was excellent.
I wonder if the line "Any rock can be made to roll/If you've enough of it to pay the toll" from the song "It" by Genesis (from the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway) is a reference to this song.
The only way to see them in concert now is go watch the Song Remains The Same Movie . It was made in 1976 and was from their 1973 concerts at MSG in New York City that was the only way I got to see them in concert.
Their performance at the O2 Arena in London 2007 in front of 20000 was made into a film Celebration Day. For guys in or approaching 60 they were simply brilliant. 20million tried to get tickets!
Why is there a jar of mayo on the back of your couch?! Anyway, this is the official #1 Classic Rock song of all time, by one of the greatest rock bands ever. Lead guitarist Jimmy Page stated that Zep never played a song the same way twice, so studio & all live versions will vary. Thanks for your reaction.
hi michael, hope you're good. robert plant vocalist, jimmy page guitarist, john paul jones bass, keyboards and john bonham drums. some of the most eclectic music you'll ever hear. i love them, i have most of their albums. jimmy page wrote most of the music while robert plant wrote the lyrics. john bonham was found dead on the 25th december 1980 at 1.45 pm by john paul jones and benji lefevre. his cause of death was asphyxiation from vomit and was declared accidental. he had been consuming vodka since breakfast time until he passed out at just past midnight on the 24th. led zep split after but have done concerts for special occasions. they interviewed a lot of drummers, including phil collins, cozy powell and bev bevan, but they eventually went with john bonhams son, jason.
jimmy page is heavily into black magic and some people reckon that some of Zeppelin's lyrics are influenced by this .Jimmy had one of a the largest collections of books on black magic in the UK .

Such a classic song....one of the greatest of all time!
One of my favorites!! Brings back the memories!

they played live aid (1985) and an atlantic show (1988)
I think they were close to the end of the line as a band and more then likely would have gone their own ways not long after the last album. Just my two cents. But doesn't take away that Zep is one of the greatest bands of all time and always will be.
Nice one. Greatest rock song ever and greatest rock solo of all time. Masterpiece.👍

I appreciate that! 😁
This live at msg in 1973 is magnificent! Nobody is better than Zeppelin!
YES, this song is absolutely Spiritual! It weaves a path right in to your heart and soul !❤
Love your reaction! You are on point!❤
Basically Michael;.....in the 1970`s there were Superstars,......there were Supergroups;....and then there
was Led Zeppelin.
You nailed it!

I’m older & it’s a BLAST to see a younger person’s reactions and true appreciation for great tunes such as this one! Tunes of my youth!
The best song of all time…period.
You should listen to the studio version of “Ramble On” if you want to hear Lord of the Rings mentions.
Great rendition of Ramble on at the O2 arena 27 years later with John Bonhams son on drums.
Robert & Jimmy - dang !👍

Will always be one of the best songs ever written......in 500 years it will be no different

The mellotron was used in live shows, not the studio tracks.
@@tektoniks_architects You are right on, two recorders were used on the studio track.
They are called The Rock God's for a reason!

Have you seen Heart sing this at the Kennedy Center to honor Led Zeppelin? Remarkable!

Jimmy Page's solo in the live MSG show is not as well thought out as the one he recorded in the studio, I think.
Love your reaction, Thank you.
You;ve just committed the unpardonable sin! NEVER interupt a tune when the lead guitar starts playing its solo!
Wow to find someone on my level
love LZ but also Deep Purple same era
jimmy page is heavily into black magic and some people reckon that some of Zeppelin's lyrics are influenced by this .Jimmy had one of a the largest collections of books on black magic in the UK .

I love how you get lost in the music and didn't comment for quite awhile.
Have you done Heart’s cover at the Kennedy Center Honors? If not….. you must!
No I haven’t I’ll try and check that out!! Thanks tracy!
Never pause in or at the start of Jimmy Page solo rule number 1
There's a Stairway to Heavan but a Highway to Hell.
Search for the Jimmy Page video of his explanation of Stairway to Heaven while its on in the background.

Better version, eh? 😃
You paused Jimmy Page?
Listen to Heart Barracuda
I really like your reviews but I am still perplexed by the Mayo jar on your sofa. You may want to check to see if it is expired, lol.
It's a gimmick to keep people guessing.
Just pay the music and shut up

Oh totally! It bothered me when I see people recommend new listeners to the live version first. It has to be the studio album first.
