  • This stihl trimmer/weed whacker was hard to start and would hesitate at full throttle. Even adjusting the carb made no difference.

Thank you so much for sharing. I bought a FS 45 at a consignment store for 40 bucks. After taking it apart the same way you did in the video, I found out that the arrestor was plugged and the primer bulb was cracked. I also gave it a new filter and a new spark plug and it worked like new when I fired it up! Not a bad find for $40 and I learned a lot while working on it!

The Stihl FS 45 is a very durable machine. I've been using it for 21 years and it's still good.

I noticed a few times when you were hard to hear...perhaps an exteral mic could help...but I understand you have to walk before you run. This was a good video for the most part. (I know...I know...I shouldn't say anything because I'm not making videos on here...but you don't have to be able to play an instrument to know the music you like...lol) Please keep making videos and get your channel built.
    Cheers from New Brunswick, Canada...eh.

Just started using a mic. Perhaps I need to put it closer to my mouth haha. Thanks for the tip, the support and for watching!

Good vid. You say your just getting started ? Having watched a few channels, I could suggest a bit more detail on the whys and wherefores. I knew nothing about small engines before I started youtube university. Every bit helps. Thanks. Judging by your shop and watching you work you know lots.

Thanks for the suggestions! I feel like I’m getting a little better on the video making. I’ll think adding more detail would be beneficial and maybe more entertaining. I’ll see what I can do going forward

Mine never started at all from day 1 . Other people could not start it either . There were faulty models back when I bought mine . I threw it aside in frustration and bought a Honda .
Out of curiosity I took it back to Stihl just after the warranty had expired and they charged $240 to fix it even though they new they had faulty production and knew it had never worked and never started . The motor runs good now but it has other issues so I don't use it much .

That’s odd. Sounds like it had bad crank seals or something. Either that or a cylinder issue. I’ve had really good luck with stihl but I’m sure there’s always a few that just aren’t right. Thanks for sharing.

NGL, I had anxiety when you said diaphragm first and gasket second on the metering side of the carburetor. It's always gasket then diaphragm on that side. Pump side is diaphragm then gasket. This isn't a dig, just advice for anyone who wants it. I've run into a bunch of carb's with reversed and upside down metering diaphragms.

To order an aftermarket use this site or similar sites. Google search fs45 carb rebuild kit. To get a kit from stihl, you would have to go to local ace hardware.
