  • This is my Ruger American Predator chambered in the 358 Winchester. I received this rifle as a gift. It's my dedicated black bear rifle. I'm shooting sub MOA with Buffalo Bore ammo and I get 1.5 MOA while using Hornady Custom ammo.
The rifle is fun to shoot! I'd say the recoil is comparable to the 30-06 Springfield. But with a muzzle brake it shoots more like the 7mm-08 Remington.

I believe less than 300 of these were made by Ruger for a gun shop called Grice's in PA. They were sold out before I knew they existed, but I consider myself lucky to have stumbled onto a used one at my local gun shop. Mine has an 18" barrel, without a muzzle break and I've heard them called Ruger American Carbines, the only one of the Ruger Americans to have that designation. At first mine had a big problem feeding from the original magazine, but luckily they use the same magazine as the .308 Ruger American rifles so replacing the magazine was easy and solved the issues mine had. I put a laminated Boyd's gun stock on mine and topped it with a Leupold 2-7x33 scope. This rifle chambered in .358 Win. is ideal for the Pennsylvania woods.

You're absolutely correct about how fast they sold! I seen it in their sales flyer. Stated limited run of 400 for $399.00.. so it was a no brainer.
I scooped mine up ASAP :)
Glad to hear you found another 358 Winchester.. the 18 inch barrel would be sweet!
My 350 legend has an 18 inch barrel and I love that rifle! Points fast low recoil handy accurate and the ammo is inexpensive! I put a Boyds stock on the 350 Legend and a Glades tactical bolt knob.
My Ruger American Predator in 358 Winchester has a threaded 22 inch barrel. I purchased the muzzle break afterwards.. but don't feel that it's necessary. Just makes it softer at the bench.
      Thanks for stopping by :)

Thanks for showing us this terrific rifle in a GREAT caliber. I am absolutely baffled why Ruger did just one, tiny run of these rifles. The very few used .358 Winchester bolt-action models on the market all carry very high price tags (highlighting demand) and EVERY gun writer I follow continues to praise the .358 to the skies and to lament its "demise." What's wrong with this picture?!? Chris (in Maine)

Oh I completely agree with you.. and from what I understand Grice Gun Shop here in Pennsylvania.. bought 400.. just to have them made!
The were an exclusive at their gun shop!
Every year they seem to do a run of something.. but haven't noticed anything new since COVID.. sadly
Usually every time they get 35 Whelen's in they sell those too!
They had Remington produce a lot for them.. the pump action that is!

Sweet! Cool that a major company chambered a rifle in that cartridge (or any .35 cal). I recently acquired an old 1956 BRNO zg47 action rebarrelled in .358 Norma Magnum. The .35 cals are so under appreciated. Everyone only cares about having the highest bc while 99 percent of hunting shots will happen inside 400 yards, 90 percent inside 250 probably. At those ranges there’s much to be said for THUMPING POWER!

@@blackie1of4 that’s what I keep hearing. They have a very small but fiercely loyal cult following. And as for flag shooting…my Norma magnum is just getting started, I’m in the load work up phase (handloader) and it’s not breaking a sweat (or showing pressure) sending 250 grain hornadys at 2750 fps. That’s as fast as a stiffly loaded .30-06 sends 180s. It’s not as flat as a 7mm or .30 cal magnum but good grief I ain’t throwing rocks at them either 🤣

Winchester only manufactures the .358Win 200gr Silvertip load every 3-4 years. And brass at that same time. Thankfully, brass is available from Jamison, Starline, Quality Cartridge, Winchester (occasionally) and Hornady (listed in order of quality, best to worst). Loaded ammo I’m not sure about, I don’t buy loaded ammo for use in my firearms as I load for them all myself. My hunting load is the Barnes 180gr TTSX loaded over a max charge of Ramshot TAC making 2850fps from a 19” barrel. Wish I could find a Ruger American in .358, would be a nice pack rifle.

Anytime a commercial gun maker does rifles in the 358 win or 35 Wheelen the guns are sold as fast as put on the shelf for sale so I really can't understand why the company's always make short runs of these 35 caliber rifles that the public really like and want.
For hunters that know about the Marlin 35 Remington again that cartridge is a Ledgen and is a very old cartridge that continues to be commercial loaded and loved for how affective it is to take down game.
Remington made there auto loader and pump rifle in the 35 Wheelen then those rifles sold as fast as put up for sale and try to find a used one for sale is near impossible.
For the AR 10 shooter the 358 win barrels are sold by KAK industries which sells so many of the AR 10 358 win barrels if you want one you need to get on the waiting list to buy one.
