Man, thanks so much for this! I've got the game 10 days ago and it's been great, but it's so much to learn. This video was awesome. Hope you do one for the mutations!! Thanks again.
I used to hate the Iron Staff, but after forcing myself to use it on a few runs, I now think it's one of the best weapons in the game. It works with shield mutations so you can stack extra damage and massive healing just by killing enemies. I also think the Spiked Boots are amazing at 5bc. Everything is always about to attack you, so you are constantly getting crits. Add in melee, and everything is going to die before it gets the hit off. Maybe you dont manage to take out the mob; after hearing the crit noise a 3 times, just roll and you'll be fine.
Yeah I agree with the iron staff, at first i thought I was a little janky but you kind of have to learn to play slow with the weapon and just treat it as a shield. You can maul tier 1 bosses because they are pretty open to being stunned after a successful parry
If you haven't seen Raziel's video using the Iron Staff you should check it out, you'll probably be like, "that's me" haha! I'm def going to take it in a few survival runs and do some more testing. As far as dead cells weapons go most if not ALL can be used in some way or another which is what keeps the game so interesting, my favourite melee weapon has got to be the whip sword atm. Looking forward to see your opinion on all of the ranged weapons.
Legit, first melee run I did after this video I grabbed a Whip Sword from the tubes and it carried me up to the third boss. I just stood there for a few seconds and kept pressing the transform button to see the animation where the beheaded just jams the sword up into the air lol
@@DisappointedGiant Awesome! have you tried turning on the 'hold to attack' feature when using the whip sword? if you hold the primary attack while mashing the transforming skill it ramps up the attack speed of the weapon by a huge amount.

Scissors are amazing in biomes with a lot of small fry like bats and rats. Take this route: Toxic, Corrupted, Ancient, Conjunct, Graveyard, Sepulcher, Time Keeper. I think they would work great in Shipwreck, too, but I never go there because I hate the servants. They are surprisingly great in the Bank since you can one shot an elite gorger by killing a golden kamikaze. The only disadvantage is that you'd probably want to change it to something that can crit for the last bosses.
Oh yeah, they can be pretty wild. I have an old video on my channel of me one-shotting a Giant Tick using a teleporting enemy. It's on my list of things to do one-weapon runs of so am going to absolutely give that a deeper and more fair look. Thank you for the tip and the route! They're probably good in Distillery too since there are so many bats and corpse juices there that'll get cut in one hit.
23:02 I'm super new to the game (only just got my spider rune yesterday), and pure nail is my absolute go-to anytime it pops up. It's the most fun weapon I've found so far and probably the most viable for my play style. God dangit, I love this game!
I like this style of tier list a lot actually. Rather than telling me what's "good" or "bad" it allows me to come to my own conclusions on what works for me and my ever-developing playstyle. ...that being said, Panchaku in Always tier is based and objectively correct. There is never a time where I'm not thrilled to see Panchaku in my runs. 😆
I just started playing this game again after YEARS, where half these items weren't in game. I remember it took me dozens of hours to beat 0bc and 1bc... I got the game again but this time on PC and I'm already at 3bc after 4 days or so... The baseball bat + throwables/wolf trap build or the crossbow weapons allow you to just turn your brain off, they're so cheesy 😅
I love Alucard's sword as well, even if it has killed me more often than I care to admit by teleporting me into spikes or any dangerous stuff haha. My instant pickup when I see them in the tubes are the scissors and the pickaxe. Pickaxe is just so good, as having 12k gold is so easy in 5bc, and scissors are kinda op for someone like me who can't beat 5bc yet, it makes the sewers biomes a breeze. I wish I was better at the game but for me, most of these weapons are unusable, as I feel you need to be really good at the game to make them work (i.e. RnB, wrecking ball, tonfas, etc).
Another person of taste! Alucard's Sword is really special. Good point about the Scissors in the Sewers, too. So many little enemies to make the bigger ones disappear. It's on my list of things to take again in the near future so I can reevaluate for myself. I hear you about the more tech heavy weapons like the Tonfas and Wrecking Ball. I didn't think to mention this in the video since I was just winging it but some of the items that I really like (those two, King Scepter, Meat Skewer) come at the end of dozens of failed runs from trying to make them work for me. If you have items you want to check out it's worth dropping down to a lower BC and using the Training Room to get acclimated to the weapon's moveset.
If you're farming cells on higher BCs for the Legendary Forge, you can use Blood Sword & the Blood Drinker optional mutation to regenerate health at a pretty crazy rate. You can just reset your run until you see the Blood Sword show up in the tubes, but don't forget to pick up the Blood Drinker mutation _BEFORE_ you go through the door into the tubes-room.
I agree, the biggest problem with the giantkiller is that it cannot be put in the backpack, since there is no way i am using it for biome clear, and i may not find it again
Learned that the hard way when I tried to go for flawless boss fights, got a legendary assassin dagger, and then tried HotK. That guy turns around instantly.
That whole ramble at the end, where you said 'the player has to pause' and corrected it to 'I have to pause' when talking about how you react to finding an item....I believe you had it right the first time. I've only been in the game for like 35 hours and I find myself stopping to read every aspect of anything I come across to see if it'll improve my run. Unless I'm carrying Alucard's Sword. Then I get blinders and ignore everything else because it ALUCARD'S FECKIN' SWORD.
I corrected myself because I didn't want to assume everyone was going to have the same experience that I do, but I'm glad to hear that resonated with you. That is a great mindset and habit to have because you never know when a specific affix or item can completely turn things around! Also, 100% about Al's Sword :D
No hatred against Scissors at all. There's no hatred against any of these weapons actually - I was pretty clear about that and deliberately went into detail about it during the video. That said, Scissors are not a great boss weapon but I've used them more recently and have had some excellent biome clears with them. They're making their way into my normal runs more, good stuff!
@@DisappointedGiant Don't worry man I was exaggerating; I know you don't hate them. I personally love Scissors, but I really wish they had a crit condition.
@@DisappointedGiant Agreed. Maybe the crit activation could be after snipping an elite too, similar to the timer on symmetrical lance. That wouldn't be the easiest to activate, but with the weapon already being strong I think it'd be a nice touch.
just got my first 5bc clear and I gotta say Bible is S tier IMO. Once you get a few bibles spinning on a boss, you can recover most of your HP after taking a hit almost instantly. This lets you tank hits and spam even more bibles. Add Instinct of the master of arms and you are resetting your skills constantly (ice armor is a good one). I actually beat the spoiler boss on my first attempt, just standing in his face spamming attack
Oh yeah, Bible is great! I've taken it a couple of times recently on Tactics with Point Blank. Bosses (especially ones like spoiler and Giant) get deleted. The legendary version is twice as great. Congrats on your 5BC win, that's huge!
I actually like king scepter because you can combo enemy even elites but the problem is that it's better to use if an enemy is in a small space and has a roof on top to combo but still good sucks on boss but yeah still good
Great video! Super glad I found your channel and other videos. BTW, you mention evil empire adding things to the game. They're the publisher. Motion Twin is the developer, so they should be getting the name drop more. Arguably, both companies are responsible so such a thorough legacy to a little tiny indie game that continues to reward us to this day
Thank you! I'm glad you've enjoyed my videos. Evil Empire is the dev of Dead Cells at this point. A few Motion Twin folks started EE summer of 2019 and they've ramped up staffing to include something like 50 employees now. MT still has to approve any new content and the two companies actually share an office space, but the main MT team has been working on a new IP for the past few years instead of focusing on Dead Cells. (It's called Windblown, the trailer just hit a few weeks ago.) EDIT: I totally forgot, I actually talk about MT/WW in depth in my Derelict Distillery video here: ua-cam.com/video/BfNmIc4zT3c/v-deo.html
When I first came across it, I rarely used the Frantic Sword. But that has now changed ever since it carried me through 3BC. It's honestly the perfect weapon for unga bunga brain off rushdown playstyle. Also, the comb has air combos...well ain't that SSStylish.
Hey genuine question. What's the origin of your name? If you can choose any name as a channel that you want, why would you put 'disappointed' in it? And not something that has a more positive connotation?
Hey there! The Giant drops an outfit on 1+BC called "Disappointed Giant's Outfit" which is where my name comes from. That's a handle I've used for a few years so I wasn't interested in making a new one or changing it.
it's true, baseball bat is so OP, almost brokenly so, but it's pretty boring after a while. totally agree, but if you're struggling lol.. baseball bat ftw
(This is a comparison between the 3 slowest survival weapons to show why in my opinion Toothpick is weak) Toothpick has tiny first hit damage. While the other slowest survival weapons deal around 200 base damage on first hit, toothpick deals 150. It may not feel like a big difference, but in practice I often find enemies taking 2 (or even 3 if the combo resets) hits to die. First hit speed is in the middle at 0.86667s but I'll add the 2nd hit too at 1.067s, and at that point it'd be better off charging it. And speaking of charging, it takes 1.3s to charge up and has a 4x multiplier. For me it seems impractical to charge it up just because an enemy would have barely enough health to withstand a normal hit. The reason I like using Oven Axe is its consistency of the first hit, being faster (0.8s) and dealing good enough damage to kill most enemies in a single swing. Wrecking Ball has the slowest first hit (1.1s) but has the same damage as Axe.
I love this! Thank you for putting all the raw damage and numbers here. I've been using Oven Axe a lot recently and have been enjoying the heft and the surprising speed of the hits (despite the slow wind-up and pauses). That's a good point about that first hit from Toothpick being lower - it feels like Axe and Wrecking Ball take enemies out on that first big hit. Legendary Toothpick is better that non because it stuns and opens up space for the next non-charged hits. It feels so good to charge and bonk an elite but Oven Axe (medium skill ceiling) and Wrecking Ball (high skill ceiling) feel better overall. Thank you for your thoughts and the analysis!
Feel very similarly about the bat as a new player. I took it every time with the throwable object in 0bc but it has zero build or playstyle variety and is just kinda boring to play with.
@@DisappointedGiant If it's any consolation there are 'memes' dating back to the 1800s on how to pronounce it; check the wiki article on Calliope (music).
@@DisappointedGiant the only reason I don't like it is because the attack speed is slow and I usually go to clock tower the high peak castle at some point and those biomes have some tankier enemies, I guess it just depends on the biome then
Starfury has absolutely terrible initial melee damage and is slow. I can see the value with the extra projectiles, but It's melee damage is so low. It must have great scaling?
Oh, totally. It also doesn't have any breach so it won't stun enemies. The damage and novelty comes from the projectiles. The stars always crit, damage scales well with Tactics/Point Blank, and since the sword swipe is so quick you don't get locked into an animation. It might be worth pairing with the Melee mutation to slow the enemies a bit while the stars fall. Even at 1 point in tactics Point Blank it gives 30% damage. Worth thinking about, but long story short - yes. The melee damage is not that good, haha.
Giant i've watched your video on hiw to surpass the bc's i want to make a build but i can't find wings of the crow, do you know where i cand find them?
Thank you! Yes, they can be found in the Slumbering Sanctuary. The blueprint drops from the Golem (the big enemy that rushes and slams the ground). It's a fairly common drop but you can take the Hunter's Grenade there. That enemy does a ton of damage so I recommend taking a Wolf Trap or something else like that to slow it so you can get the blueprint. Good luck!
Not sure about anyone else, but the last time I played on Switch was several months ago with the Return to Castlevania cart (not downloaded or memory card). Some levels on lower BC were OK but the busier ones (Bank, Distillery, Undying Shores) and 5BC were choppy. I hope they fix it before they wrap things up. If you downloaded the game on memory card it might be worth trying to download directly to the switch to see if that helps!

I KNEW I wasn't the only one that loved the crit sound lol
I agree, the biggest problem with the giantkiller is that it cannot be put in the backpack, since there is no way i am using it for biome clear, and i may not find it again
assassin dagger+phaze+killer instinct is an op set but its true that the assassin dagger by itself is hard to pull off
Learned that the hard way when I tried to go for flawless boss fights, got a legendary assassin dagger, and then tried HotK. That guy turns around instantly.
Baseball Bat or Nutcracker + Ice or Wolf Trap shenanigans....
Yes I am kinda new to DC 😆
i think this was more of a fun rating then how easy/strong the item is, but its definetly interesting to hear your thoughts.
Thanks for the videos, i am at 2 BS atm stucked. Super difficult to pass this level but i am training everyday a few runs in order to achieve BS 3
this video is great, and your voice is chill af. new sub
The bat and the boy's axe are the only things that let me get flawless on the bosses so they'll always be s tier for me
It’s funny that I beat game first time with trident and I use death scythe for cleaning biomes very efficiently) thanks for the video!
I think you're absolutely right.
Everything is viable and you should try everything someday. Maybe itll be your favorite weapon
Finally, bro uploaded another video😭
Point with trident. If you hit an enemy with the charge, they cannot finish an attack while you're charging.
Interesting! I'll have to give it another fair shake. Unless using Melee I find myself getting hit if I go for the full combo.
Shark gang, rise up.
Also don't ever spew such hatred against Sewing Scissors again
No hatred against Scissors at all. There's no hatred against any of these weapons actually - I was pretty clear about that and deliberately went into detail about it during the video. That said, Scissors are not a great boss weapon but I've used them more recently and have had some excellent biome clears with them. They're making their way into my normal runs more, good stuff!
@@DisappointedGiant Don't worry man I was exaggerating; I know you don't hate them. I personally love Scissors, but I really wish they had a crit condition.
@@osteohiveporosis6882 it would be sick if they made the crit noise when they sliced up extra enemies!
@@DisappointedGiant Agreed. Maybe the crit activation could be after snipping an elite too, similar to the timer on symmetrical lance. That wouldn't be the easiest to activate, but with the weapon already being strong I think it'd be a nice touch.
Spiked Boots it's peak Oonga Boonga playstyle 10/10
-Cavemen
the only times I have ever beaten the game I beat it with flint. Best change that attitude sir
Flint is goated
Best Yapper for Listener to listen to.
Yes. Panchaku is awesome.
hello, you make good content
just got my first 5bc clear and I gotta say Bible is S tier IMO.
I actually like king scepter because you can combo enemy even elites but the problem is that it's better to use if an enemy is in a small space and has a roof on top to combo but still good sucks on boss but yeah still good
You earned my subscription.
I got all five boss cells with flint and only flint no skills no side weapon just flint and it was pretty easy so I take flint every time.
I dig it. I dig it alot.
(It's called Windblown, the trailer just hit a few weeks ago.)
EDIT: I totally forgot, I actually talk about MT/WW in depth in my Derelict Distillery video here: ua-cam.com/video/BfNmIc4zT3c/v-deo.html
When I first came across it, I rarely used the Frantic Sword. But that has now changed ever since it carried me through 3BC. It's honestly the perfect weapon for unga bunga brain off rushdown playstyle. Also, the comb has air combos...well ain't that SSStylish.
I uninstalled the game cuz I hit a wall on 2BC but I think I will give another try. Thanks for the video
Please do one for ranged aswell :D
I plan on it! I haven't been focusing on videos this month but once I get back into the swing of things I'm going to make a ranged tier list.
@@DisappointedGiant im looking forward to it, thank you! :D
BASED Alucards Sword enojoyer
Panchaku is my favorite
Directional pad lol. You’re true old school
Unbelievable!!! A subjective tier list, in which there are placements I disagree with!? This is a moral crisis. I kid. Interesting tier list.
Did they nerf the bat again?
They nerfed it a couple of patches ago but you can barely tell. It still shreds.
Feel very similarly about the bat as a new player. I took it every time with the throwable object in 0bc but it has zero build or playstyle variety and is just kinda boring to play with.
Can you shield ranking? Please?
EDIT: he already has one. Meesa bit dull at times.
Man you're so cool
Hey is the alucard sword still as good would you say? New to dead cells so im looking for the best weapons.
I just used it the other day, still love it. Have fun finding out what weapons you enjoy! Lots of good ones in there.
Nutcracker is just so fun though,
Nobody asked, but correct pronunciation for Calliope is 'Cal-eye-uh-pee' - she's a Muse in Greek mythology.
Thank you! I definitely butchered that one a few times while I was talking.
@@DisappointedGiant If it's any consolation there are 'memes' dating back to the 1800s on how to pronounce it; check the wiki article on Calliope (music).
@@crazyhans"Tooting joy, tooting hope, I am the calliope." Amazing
1:44:11 It's pronounced "SOW-Ing" like "oh this item is so-so...ing scissors" 😇
I destroy in this game grab the cursed sword every time never die
you like symmetrical lance? I hate it, maybe I'll give it another try if you think it's good
imo it totally shreds in biomes with enemies you can kill in 1-2 shots. Instant take for me in PQ or Graveyard
@@DisappointedGiant the only reason I don't like it is because the attack speed is slow and I usually go to clock tower the high peak castle at some point and those biomes have some tankier enemies, I guess it just depends on the biome then
starfury needs a damage buff
You wrong any the war spear of you get one rated X or higher you don't need to crit especially if you get it to spread oil and 40% inflammable oil
baseball bat is the god of melee
@DisappointedGiant Thanks for the guides. I have owned the game since launch, but I hadn't played the game in 3 years.
Good luck!
me watching my fav weapon that got me my first 5bc run gets a low tier : 🐼
#justiceforthefan
If it's any consolation I told people to use it in my latest video! lol
I dont know why the bat is my favourit weapon i do 5 bc whit this
Hello, I know this video is outdated now but does anyone play on switch? My game still stutters, they never fixed that up until now?
Not sure about anyone else, but the last time I played on Switch was several months ago with the Return to Castlevania cart (not downloaded or memory card). Some levels on lower BC were OK but the busier ones (Bank, Distillery, Undying Shores) and 5BC were choppy. I hope they fix it before they wrap things up. If you downloaded the game on memory card it might be worth trying to download directly to the switch to see if that helps!
@@DisappointedGiant hey thank you for the response! Literally just found your channel yesterday because of my love for dead cells, so I’ll be supporting it for sure. I did try moving my installation and saved data to the internal memory of my switch but it still does it, it’s quite annoying lol but I might just move to steam, I’m afraid to start over though that’s gonna suck.
Dude symmetrical lance's first attack is too slow i cant even kill kamikaze bugs with it
I feel that. It has no vertical attack either so the kamikazes can swoop right in.
Your normal recorded videos are honestly less enjoyable to listen to than this. I pick up on the 'smile' you get while talking and sometimes it just sounds so forced. It gets cringy when you make a point of 'sounding' radiant or spilling with positivity. This though, this was so good. You just need your normal speaking voice and that laugh. Your laugh is awesome. Just my .02 as a subscriber.
Thank you for your feedback on both sides of the coin here. It sounds like my scripted videos and reading voice may not be your thing, but I'm going to have three more tier list videos released in the next few months that will be the same in scope and style as this. Hopefully you enjoy those as much as you did this one! I'm in the process of wrapping up a scripted video that I already recorded audio for but will keep this comment in mind the next time I sit down to read from a script. I appreciate your comment and support!
Thank you for the response and not taking it as an attack on your character. I enjoy both but this one really surprised me in contrast. You already have such a natural positivity in your speaking is I guess what my point is. So I’m glad that was well received. Look forward to more of your content.
What, are you afraid to hurt the weapon's feelings?
I don't personally subscribe to best/worst or good/bad since there are many uses for all of these items and people have different ways of playing.
Calliope is pronounced KAL-I-OH-PEE
FLINT IS JUST BETTER WAR SPEAR BRUH
