Great commentary, charming voice, engaging gameplay... Truly the whole package! More of those videos please! Also love the guitar tune at the beginning of the videos. Very mesmerizing
Enjoyed this video immensely. I think this style of content is great for Dead Cells -- just a straight run, showcasing the game's numerous strengths (and weaknesses). Your skill and know-how make this a tremendously interesting and informative watch. I would love to see more of this type of video from you. And not just the random runs. Seeing your [stable] builds (and the logic behind them) would also be great. GL with your move and with all the IRL stuff!
I appreciate the feedback and am glad you enjoyed the video! This one-off run was a nice convergence of cool things to showcase but future runs will be more specific (e.g., ice build, traps and tranquility, etc.). At least lease just more of a normal run with some more build purpose behind it. Thank you for the support and the good luck!
At 1:01:24, if I counted correctly, you got hit a total of 7 times! A lot lower than your prediction of 12! Nonetheless though, thank you so much for a wonderful video. Watching this 6 months after you originally posted (so I hope your move went well!) but I genuinely enjoyed sitting through all of this and experiecning the run. Hearing you talk really helped me to focus ironically enough, and your insight/guides on the game have proven to be really useful! As for what could be changed, in the future, I think it would be really fun if we heard your original reaction during the run (if you record yourself when you play!) Overall though, thank you so much for this video. Never thought I would stick around for the entire 1 hour and 14 minutes but your charisma and your engaging commentary really made it all with the gameplay! Keep up the great work!
I'm really glad to hear that you enjoyed the video and that the commentary was useful for you. I'm going to take your suggestion to heart and do some live commentary runs to see how they come out! The only times I've done that was twice on stream and once with Modesto, so I haven't done it without chat or another person on the call to keep the conversation going. I hope I can get some good footage! Thanks for the feedback, appreciate you taking the time.
Hi, new here, but I think on youtube people who like this kind of video will come tto your channel and people who don't will leave. So I think just do what you have fun doing. I quite enjoyed this. Mainly because your voice is extremely relaxing, so you have a talent for commentary imo.
love these types of videos from you. your voice is very calm and soothing + the informational tips you sprinkle in are a blessing for a new player like myself. keep it up man :)
Please more videos exactly like this, or just challenge runs would be entertaining. Even if it's not a challenge run, I would love to listen to full run commentaries.
I think the best way to play a challenge run like this, in the future, would be (for instance, a red item churn run): -leave all skills and abilities on the map until the map is fully cleared -always swap out what you can, a new item of the chosen scroll color, fitting whatever theme you've chosen -from there, you can respect mutations and reroll affixes in between levels. -basically, you set your build for the whole level, then rebuild it using all the drops from the level you just cleared. Could be a more streamlined way of always picking up new stuff without completely wrecking your synergies (like having face flask + vengeance, then being forced to immediately get rid of your face flask at beginning of the level cuz it's next on the chopping block?) Also, I appreciate the candor, it's nice to hear that you started this run out of frustration, dropping all expectations, and it ends up going even better. Super cool
Just got to the part of the video where you recommended: -just take masochist, gastronomy, and disengagement for mutations -go into custom mode and turn off everything you're familiar with Boom done! Greta idea, I feel inspired to do that. However, to add to the chaos, can't you also take items and skills off that don't match your "color theme", that way every item drop 100% of the time will be swapped out with your oldest item, you can never recycle the new item because it will always qualify (since you qualified them ahead of time)?
I'm saying these thing both in acknowledgement of your good ideas, so that I hopefully remember them and try them. But also, I think it'd be cool content for you to walk us through a run where you deliberately are running stuff you aren't as familiar with, so taking is through the custom mode parts. And then you have a run where you literally just take all the items you're rusty with. And show us what kinds of assist options you might use to "preserve" the run, rather than dying before the first boss cuz the items are jank
Some cool ideas here! I like that vibe of keeping everything on the map until full clear so there's a little more control over what your build is like (and to keep that build through the next biome). I have a video where I played with all my rusty/unfamiliar items where I took everything from the bottom two slots on my tier lists. I made it all the way to the castle on 5BC so not too bad overall! 5BC boss and I go back a few years so I've had lots of practice. You can fight the boss in the training room if you want to test out some builds and practice! In case you haven't found it, there's a hidden area in the right side of the boss room where you can roll through the wall and find a 5BC door.
I really like full commentary like this! Especially with your voice and off topics) do more pls! P. S. How about you will do complete run on any Castlevania game with commentary? One of Nintendo DS for example?
Great stuff, as usual. Any thoughts about doing a per biome deep dive? I'd be up for hearing some more in-depth views of biome secrets, enemies, or any thing else you could encounter. Especially ones that maybe we don't visit/see a lot?
Hey Inky!! That's a good idea, especially since each biome is so different. Enemies would be tough to nail down though since they change with every BC (so lots of just listing what changes) but that's something that the Wiki shows so I could just link that. I really like this suggestion. Thanks a lot, man!
Thank you! I've put in an embarrassing amount of time into this game BUT I will also say that when I first started I had trouble getting through Timekeeper consistently on 0BC. I was legit afraid of fighting her lol! If you're not shredding now I bet you will be sometime soon if you keep at it.
As someone who just got to 5BC and getting my ass kicked over and over this was fun as hell to watch. I'm hoping one day I learn the instincts to see it through and do fun stuff like this (always wanted to do a flawless run so I can get the black hole head)
At 4:16 with the Elites there, are you just confident you're going to time up their attacks and parry? I just started 2BC and am getting humbled by the new Prison Quarters enemies (fat boi with his shield for instance) and it's really stopping my progress. What I'm picking up from you is perhaps I just need to lean into understanding and allowing them to attack so that I can parry, *then* attack.
Oh wow, great catch there! Looking back on the video I was probably more comfortable and confident in that situation since I had Rampart and knew I would get some extra invincibility on parry, but I'm also very familiar with how the Rampagers behave. I think that it's a good idea to lean into a more reactive approach for enemies like the fat boi, especially since their shield breaks and they aggro on the first attack (not counting a parry). I like using either Cudgel or Ice Shield with them because it'll stun or freeze them long enough so they can't recover after a parry. Congrats on getting to 2BC and good luck with your runs!

Any tips on money management? Or maybe a full video? I feel like I always either try and save to much and get no synergies and then I’m super under powered or I spend to much on rerolls and then don’t have any for the rest of the run.
Great question! I personally feel like gold management differs from run to run but am happy to outline some of my own best practices to see if they’ll help out. - The earliest I buy new gear is usually Prison Depths or Corrupted Prison (often later, though). Unless something really jumps out at me before then I try to rely on what gear comes naturally through chests and drops. The relative cost of gear is heavier earlier in a run so I try to save up money for later on when I’m getting higher quality items and more bang for my buck. Some extra gear knowledge comes in handy here since that'll help adapt in the earlier stages when using the free stuff that pops up. - Don’t buy new gear in every biome, especially if it’s just a small increase in quality. That gets expensive quickly and could put you at a deficit for the rest of the run. Maybe once every other level or so unless you find something that fits smoothly into your vision for your build. - It’s super important to get synergies but I don’t think it’s worth dropping a ton of money into something to try to get bonus damage to line up. Maybe 2 or 3 rerolls unless I have a lot of money in which case I’ll drop a TON like I did at the end of this video. I did that for spending’s sake since I was going to lose most of it anyway so shouldn’t be taken too seriously! I’m more thinking about the balance between spending $3,000 trying to get some synergy on an item you have or putting that money toward higher quality gear in the next biome; those rerolls could cover 60% of a new item from the shop. - Reroll mutations when necessary or when you feel your build starting to shift but I don’t recommend doing it before and after *every* boss. The first reroll is 1k, second 2k, third 4k, then each after that is 8k. If you reroll before and after both Concierge and Timekeeper that’s $15k total. For example, sometimes I’ll be running Hunter’s Instinct and even though it’s not going to do me any favors in a boss fight I’ll keep it on and won't reroll my mutations because it’s worth saving the money at that point. - Kill everything! All enemies drop gold and some drop extra random items. Doubly important for elites since they always either drop a necklace or a higher quality item, which you can either upgrade with or recycle. It doesn’t seem like a lot at first but all of those little chunks of coin add up to a bigger purse as the run goes on. I also recommend trying to get the kill doors after biomes if you can since they’ll have high level gear and some extra cash in there; if the gear doesn’t match or upgrade your build you can recycle it for some extra money. - If you haven’t turned on secret outlines yet I recommend doing that in the Accessibility options. This will put a colored box around every secret in the walls or floors so they’ll be easier to see. There are lots of little random jewels strewn about in the level architecture, which also add up. These are just some things I thought of off the top of my head after reading your comment. There are some other things I do if I can, like saving $20k in case I need a flask, but I guess that’s more money spending than management. Most of what I wrote here is loose and adaptable though so aside from killing everything my tips aren’t set in stone, just kind of a best practices thing from my own play style. Over time you’ll get a better feel for when it’s worth spending more money on a reroll and planning out when you’re going to pick up new gear. This is funny because I initially started typing this out thinking it wasn’t enough for a video but I practically just wrote a short script LOL! Thank you for the comment and question, and good luck with your runs! Def let me know if these help or if you have any other questions.
@@DisappointedGiant I don't have any more questions at the moment, i just wanted to come back and say that ive playing following these rules and spending has already been A LOT better. Thank you so much for your help and support!! and yeah that was a definitely a long read lol
Thanks for all your guides. They were great sources of much needed encouragement to finish 5bc. After the first time I reached the Collector (and died there in seconds), I encountered an irritating bug when replicating the build for the practice fight with the Collector that the boss did basically no damage to me. Do you know what causes this bug or how to fix it? I enjoyed the gameplay, but I'd prefer one where you don't put arbitrary restrictions on yourself 'cause that makes it less helpful for someone who has yet to beat 5bc.
I'm glad the guides were helpful for you! One of my good friends recently beat 5BC and was using the training room to get some reps in against good ol' spinny and he had the same issue happen. No idea how it happened or how to fix it but he was saying that he was taking a few points of damage with each hit and couldn't reset it. I just checked the patch notes for the 3.5 beta and didn't see anything there so I unfortunately don't know why that happens or how to fix it. I'm going to fire up the game later tonight and will see if I can replicate it or figure it out.
I just loaded up the fight with 1/1/1 and got immediately destroyed. Went back in with 6/30/6 and level X-S gear and I had the same bug happen to me. Each hit only took off about 50HP, but when I took a hit from one of the enemies that spawn in the second room it brought me down to 1HP. I loaded up my second save slot, quit out, went back to the first, and it still happened. Damn, that's a shame!
@@DisappointedGiant thanks a lot for looking into it for me. I think it might be the best to take a break from the game for while. Maybe I'll beat him with assist mode next time I'll reach the Observatory. Dead cells might be the most frustrating rogue-lite I have ever played, it can be very harsh on 5bc.
@@matesajben5274 Anytime, happy to help! And I hear you - there's nothing wrong with using assist mode to get the most fun out of the game. Take some time, come back to the game or not, do whatever feels best. :)
Clean cut will come out on mobile around the same time that the end is near comes out on console. Unfortunately, I don't think end is near is coming to mobile, sorry
Hey dude, love ur contents! Do you think it is better, with a dualshock/dualsense, moving with analog or directional buttons? I feel much more fast with analog but had to increase deadzone to ~50% because of "recoil" when fast turning making me turn the opposite direction when I tried to fast turn for parries. On the other hand, directional buttons are way more precise but TOO SLOW on dualsense!
Great question! I always use the d-pad when I'm playing Dead Cells (or other 2D games) on PS5 or Switch. I find that the analog sticks aren't precise enough for me. It sounds like changing the dead zone is a good idea though since you'll get the speed you want and some extra precision.
I have an idea for a challenge video, one that I've tried myself. No items except for health potions, mutations, and aspects. That's it. The only ways to deal damage are via homunculus and downward smash attacks. I've gotten to hand of the king with this challenge, but it's insanely difficult (and bs) to play.
@@DisappointedGiant Yeah, that's what I used. My strategy consisted of just rushing through the stage until explorer's instinct popped so I could get extra scrolls and starred enemies.
couple questions. Death counter above cells. my switch version has it. PC version doesnt? The enemies seem to have a white highlight around them. Is that a BSC thing or?
The highlight is something that I have in the accessibility settings so things have better visibility for me. There's also an option for the kill counter in the gameplay settings - maybe that's turned off on PC?
That's Gold Reserves, which saves some of your gold after a run. You can unlock Gold Reserves I-IV from the Collector menu and V's blueprint is hidden in the Ancient Sewers. GRV: ua-cam.com/video/FQ7UCX-haRk/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared&t=452
@@YxnEugh The only other two things I can think of is are you on the Clean Cut update (3.4), and have you unlocked the Bobby Outfit from the Panchaku lore room? Not sure what the other triggers are, she usually just shows up at some point on a new save file for me.
Good idea! I have a couple of tactics runs I could post but also haven't done much Survival. I might do a longplay with slower Survival weapons sometime.
DisappointedGiant now that deadcells won’t be getting more updates, are we gonna see other games’ uploads ? Would love you to play other rogue-like games with your commentary
Thanks for the question! I'm planning on making a tutorial video later this year about another roguelite but am not sure how far I'm going to take that afterward. I'm still planning on doing Dead Cells content for a while but might mix it up down the line with some Hades or something else.
@@DisappointedGiant Yeah, would definitely love to see some Hades content. Hades 2 as well (you spoke on it earlier and yeah that 500 bucks is iffy lol). I think it would be great if to diversify. You know, try something different. But in the end it what you enjoy. Cheers.
@@nickelomacaug1337I've been thinking about Hades a lot and am brainstorming about a video that's a bit of a crossover between the games. Maybe an overview or deep dive on mechanics to make it accessible for people who have more experience in Dead Cells since the games are so different. Explaining the Mirror/Darkness in terms of the meta/Collector upgrades, Keepsakes as mutations, Titan's Blood/aspects as the Forge, etc. Also, seriously that $500 would have been SUCH an impulse purchase. Glad I thought about it! lol
@@DisappointedGiant That’s a great idea! Like you said the games are quite different and it would be cool to describe things in terms of the other game. I think that “crossover” video would be a great starting point. People will then have at least a small grasp on the game. I think that would make it easier to make Hades content without it being a massive leap. If anyone could do it, it’s you, lol.
@@nickelomacaug1337 Thank you :D The other side of it is some Hades players might find a video like that helpful to get into some Dead Cells content. I feel like this has to happen now!

@@2close2sun Excellent! I'm glad to hear that. Enjoy your wealth!
Commenting for the algorithm 👍
hey dude cool video
Hey man you did a great run, appreciate the effort of it.I gotta a question, when will dead cells update on mobile.I WANNA PLAY THE END IS NEAR UPDATE
Clean cut will come out on mobile around the same time that the end is near comes out on console. Unfortunately, I don't think end is near is coming to mobile, sorry
@@Pererogatistwhy isnt it coming to mobile?
The date on that update is a big  now. I wish I had more info but we all have to keep on waiting, unfortunately!
Thanks for The spoilers heads up!
That sounds like a looooong challenge. Which Aspect do you use, Stomper?
@@DisappointedGiant Yeah, that's what I used. My strategy consisted of just rushing through the stage until explorer's instinct popped so I could get extra scrolls and starred enemies.
Bro’s voice sounds majestic ngl
couple questions.
How do you do so much damage with only 5 brutality scrolls? It seems kinda crazy how much damage you did
S-tier weapons make a big difference, also getting some good crits from Frantic Sword and Rapier early on.
Hey ! How did you unlock that thingh in the beggining that dropped you tons of loot ?
That's Gold Reserves, which saves some of your gold after a run. You can unlock Gold Reserves I-IV from the Collector menu and V's blueprint is hidden in the Ancient Sewers.

Dude was just riding the elevator lol
bro ive been playing this game for ages and i still havent found the lore room to get the tailors daughter help
Are you playing on mobile? If so she's not on that platform yet.
@@DisappointedGiant no i play on pc, i even have every dlc, beaten the game several times and not once have i gotten it
@@YxnEugh Hmm. Maybe you need to unlock more outfits? That might be one of the triggers for her to show up.
@@DisappointedGiant tbh id say ive unlocked quite a few, ive bought a lot from blueprints over buying weapons cuz i like the customization lol
@@YxnEugh The only other two things I can think of is are you on the Clean Cut update (3.4), and have you unlocked the Bobby Outfit from the Panchaku lore room? Not sure what the other triggers are, she usually just shows up at some point on a new save file for me.
You should post a couple other videos with either just survival or tactic 😉
Good idea! I have a couple of tactics runs I could post but also haven't done much Survival. I might do a longplay with slower Survival weapons sometime.
Make a mutations guide for beginners but a comprehensive guide too
Totally! I have the script done for the beginners mutation guide and am going to do a tier list too. Might take a few weeks but they'll be out soon.
God I miss so much old Vampirism
@@nickelomacaug1337 Thank you :D
The other side of it is some Hades players might find a video like that helpful to get into some Dead Cells content. I feel like this has to happen now!
Ngl bro, you got a smooth commentary voice, but. Your intro could have been worded better. 😅 But it's still an if you know you know situation lmao
This being said, while you are stating you're running recklessly, it was also a successful run 😅 I'm struggling to get a successful no BC clear, but my friend already cleared it for me. 😢
❤❤
I like the commentary, but the rate of videos could be improved! :)
Thank you! When you say rate do you mean upload more videos?
@DisappointedGiant yup. Trying to improve, and you are a good resource. More is better.
