I notice you stating at 4:01 and 12:05 that "each of your GCDs" trigger Bahamut's Wyrmwave or Phoenix' Scarlet Flame, this is inaccurate. Only the first attack of yours, GCD or oGCD, lets Bahamut target that mob. He is hardcoded to automatically cast, and only use 4 Wyrmwaves spread and delayed across his duration, no matter how many GCD or oGCD attacks you personally use. If he is delayed from starting attacking a mob for whatever reason, the 4 Wyrmwaves won't be delayed and instead cast as fast as the 1.5sec recast timer. The same behaviour is true of Phoenix.
Its not completely useless summoner want a little to get a 6th gcd out of their own rotation but they don't want alot because it also screws with searing light lineup. Bahamut and phoenix themselves are affected by spells peed when it comes to summoning them so if your too fast it can make using them a bit awkward
spell speed is worth it if it gives you an extra demi during the fight as demi cooldowns are based on spell speed. So its actually all in or nothing when it comes to spell speed for summoner
Like Kalrell pointed out, Wyrmwaves and Scarlet Flame are hardcoded, so the amounts of GCDs are not linked and Spell speed is not affecting these sorry for missing this
hhello im still learning over the rework of summoner but i was curious, how my bar should look with my rotation, i believe i have it set up for bahamut already, but unsure how i should set it up for the elementals, do u have any pictures that would help set it up?
That intro gave me chills. You intros and skits were always top tier and I’m so glad you are continuing this style for your job guides. I’m looking forward to all of your awesome content in 2022.
A minor note that might help newer players is to be distinct in your terminology when referring to GCDs and oGCDs. You refer to both as "abilities", whereas when a new player taking your advice in reading the tooltips will find out, "Ability" is a category of skills distinct from "Weaponskills" and "Spells". When I first started FFXIV, all these guides that kept using terms that did not mirror the in-game tooltips slowed my learning. It wasn't until a few hundred hours into the game that I realized Weaponskills and Spells were the GCDs you guide makers kept prattling on about, and Abilities were always oGCDs. Learning this difference helped me pick up and teach myself new jobs much, much faster than trying to memorize some rotation.
tbf the naming is just very unintuitive. They should just call the GCD's "Spells" and the oGCD's "Quickspells" or smth. Ability and skill are interchangeable in RPG games
Appreciate being included in the video, I was thinking is he going to upload a summoner video when we saw you in the Zodiark trial. Glad to see us in a video even if it was just a little bit.
That pet size command actually saved myself from being crazy. I did not know such command exists and frustrated everytime I was healing and a SMN in my raid summoning big bad ass summon, blocking like 30% of the vision of raid mechanics so I had to spin my camera around LOL.
I can’t help but feel sum needs a big finisher spell to work towards. Like when you summon baha you get a charge and a charge for summoning Phoenix. And when you get both charges you can use a big finisher spell that summons them both for a big boom spell. OR you could make it so summoning order of the elemental primals matter and have a finisher spell based on the order in which they were summoned, it would add a much needed complexity to what is otherwise a dreadfully boring and stagnant rotation
I have been enjoying summoner so much since we've gotten into Endwalker that it will replace my second main job(mch). Thanks a lot for this video, you have answered my questions and it will help me optimize! 😁
BLM is my main DPS at heart but SMN has been my most used DPS this expansion(nothing hurts when farming or doing dailies like getting a struggle SGE and wiping with no rez), it's fun and reliable, can't wait to see how the job evolves from here.
It's worth mentioning that the Ruin 4 proc lasts for 1 minute the same amount of time as energy drain/siphon's cooldown. So as long as you use ruin 4 before those come back up you are good.

Swiftcast slipstream is good if you want to get slipstream in your potion window. Meaning in your buffwindow you go bahamut-titan-garuda slipstream via swiftcast. That gets you the most out of the potion window

17:25 - I don't do that - but I don't know if what I'm doing is better or worse, maybe you know the math? If Bahamut or Phoenix is rdy and I have 1-3 summons left I cast them as fast as possible to get the Summon potency. For example, I still haven't finished Titan and Ifrit - I summon Titan, do his combo two times, and as soon as I can I do summon Ifrit, do his charge book slap and than as soon as I can I summon Bahamut/Phoenix. I don't think wasting the 700 hundred summon potencies should be skipped in raids - I usually do not and I hit 92 rdps without pots. But they certainly shouldn't be wasted in dungeons when trash pulling. You do ridiculous damage if you summoned Bahamut before the last trash pack, than chain summon Ifrit, Garuda, Titan, Phoenix into the next trash back. It puts a smile to your face.
You don't want to do that because delaying Bahamut or Phoenix will cause those phases - easily the highest DPS segments of your rotation - to drift away from raid buff windows. Trying to smash in the weaker summons just for the sake of using them and delaying Baha/Phoenix just means you're trying to "regain" potency you already lost (from whatever downtime delayed your summons in the first place) and you end up losing it in the long run as a result. Cut your losses and keep Bahamut and Phoenix coming.

Trying to push in Searing Light when combat doesn't "start" and clipping GCD on Summon Bahamut just feels really janky and I'd rather just avoid that altogether.
Hello, i have a doubt here, now that the 3% damage buff its not longer binded with Carbuncle, we can start the rotation with Ruin 3 > Aegis Shield > (Countdown ends) Summon Bahamut > Searing Light >.... ?
I really prefer the ShB summoner. Now it just summon -> spam whatever gemshine turns into and press the oGCD buttons -> repeat with next summon. It just feels way to same-y.
They will differ just in appearance later on...Use whatever is more recent and once you unlock the Egi-Primals, change them to whatever Carby you like.
it's weird that our level 80 skill phoenix summon kit is inferior to a level 70 skill summon bahamut. it's like you leveled up to gain an inferior set of skill. well, the phoenix regen is useful. but, radiant aegis saved me more times than rekindle.
i got a smn rotation question with dungeon mob pulls going into boss fights [5:59 PM] so basically i usually do is use bahamut on first mob pull which usually is the tank pulling 2 mobs and pheonix for 2nd mob pull another 2 mobs. by the time i get to the boss usually bahamut is up again to start my rotation over from the top. problme is we are killing mobs too fast and my rotation is behind. Should i just spam tri-disaster and not worry about dps numbers for mob pulls to have my rotation ready for boss fight?
It depends, normally, pushing in as much AoE dmg into as many enemies as possible will grant benefits over Single target optimization. So you might want to opt for that and use whatever is ready on the Boss. And avoid using Tr-Disaster mostly, as it is weaker than literally every other AoE option 👍
Like what though? I think they got the whole “summoning and being empowered by those summons” aspect down really well with the current rotation. I honestly, seriously don’t know what they could add to it. Especially considering that whilst the job has very few buttons compared to some other jobs, it actually has the most amount of actions of any job in the game, they just share buttons.
Saying to avoid Spell Speed is kind of misleading. On Summoner you can now go little to no Spell Speed or a full Spell Speed build. Both are viable and have been worked out by the players at The Balance. Since Bahamut and Phoenix are now spells, high spell speed lets you summon them more often in longer fights. You just cast them as soon as they are available and skip any Ruin III filler. The Demis will drift from Searing Light but you will just use Searing Light after the Demi summons finish.

It should still work, you will just have to delay Bahamut to get out Searing Light before dreadwyrm trance. Just use the 2 Ruin III opener and you should be fine
Me, a level 32 SMN: "Hmm, yes yes. Bahamut, Phoenix, yes. I understand all of this". Man, I got a long way to go lol Casters are so much harder than Melee DPS
It really is the easiest job by far in ff14 by so much. I personally don't care for how they stripped it of all its complexity. Both RDM and BLM require a ton more thought than the current iteration of sum. But Play whatever feels good for you. But yea, casters are a lot easier and just require fight knowledge. End game melee is rough as you have memorize and know every little detail so you can stay in range of the boss/mob for as long as possible to get your dps in. Sum at 90 only has about 3 or 4 hard casts per minute or so as most of its abilities are insta cast now. So you can basically always keep your dps on boss.
Sigh... I watched this in hoping there was some difficult thing I wasn't understanding with Summoner. Nope, turns out its everything I understood day 1, and still boring and simple.
I mean your either trolling or your just on that train where once everyone else says something your just like yeah I wanna fit in to. Noway you knew everything day 1 🤣
Wow, I loved Summoner when I unlocked it. Finally got everything down after the Bahamut stuff.....Now (Imo) the class went to shit. (I've been gone awhile, last time I played was before Endwalker.) I can't have Ifrit out anymore, You can't use the Egi without Bahamut's stance first, and the summon swap? No thanks. People say this way is easier, but this is too much for me. I'm not gonna drop Summoner altogether, but it's definitely going on the back burner.
Funny, you go directly from explaining something that is indeed really, really basic - GCDs and OGCD's - to mentioning Bahamut and Dreadwyrm Trance. It never occurred to you that this leap doesn't help anyone who is not around, say, level 60 at all? Better put the word "Basics" in font size 2, or just remove it.
Is this even necessary? Pretty sure summoner is so simple now you could not only train a monkey to play it, they might be able to figure it out on their own. I love new summoner though for how simple it is.

Oh noes I don’t know what a carbuncle is :.) awe so cute :.)
Me, a level 32 SMN: "Hmm, yes yes. Bahamut, Phoenix, yes. I understand all of this".
Man, I got a long way to go lol Casters are so much harder than Melee DPS
it's actually the other way around :D
/petglamour carbuncle ifrit-egi
That fixes one of your problems
Funny, you go directly from explaining something that is indeed really, really basic - GCDs and OGCD's - to mentioning Bahamut and Dreadwyrm Trance. It never occurred to you that this leap doesn't help anyone who is not around, say, level 60 at all?
Better put the word "Basics" in font size 2, or just remove it.
Jesus Christ how about a noob guide bro like for level 1-20 haha
you have like 10 spells and they’re self explanatory. get good
/petsize all small
you are welcome ♡
Emet Selch *sob*
Is this even necessary? Pretty sure summoner is so simple now you could not only train a monkey to play it, they might be able to figure it out on their own. I love new summoner though for how simple it is.
Not basic at all. So confusing for a noob summoner.
They've ruined this Class, it's so simpleton it's just wrong. No nuance, no tricks, no rotation really, you just press buttons when you can.
Wait, there's people who need a guide for new Summoner? :P
