Hey! So this video covered the jobs during Endwalker just before Dawntrails release. About 70% of the information in this guide is still accurate, but be aware that when you pick up these jobs some of them may be slightly different than what I say here. I plan to make a new version of this once i get familiar with the jobs in the game. Thank you!
Genuinely one of the best, most concise, correct, and consistent “which class” videos I’ve seen in… maybe ever? I was floored with your explanation of what makes Healer DPS and Tank fun. a WHM/SGE main who also heavily enjoys BLM & NIN and I’ve struggled to explain why mechanically I feel they are somewhat similar and now I know it’s because I prefer a straight forward & reactive style of play. Now I have a new intro video to send to any friends who may be interested in the game! Thank you.
The organization and content within this one video is unparalleled. Thank you so much for how you approach each job and the way you explain everything in concise detail.
If you are a healer coming from WoW, White Mage= resto shaman asthetics but is holy paladin/holy priest Astro=Resto Druid Scholar=Disc Priest(kinda resto shaman with pet being equivalent to totems.) Sage=Mistweaver monk with a focus on barriers.
...What the fuck? Why is this video so good? Whenever I click on a video from a channel with barely any subs, and the vid has barely any views, my highest expectation is that a video is going to be super rough around the edges but have some goodness within it. This video... is just really good. It's barely even rough around the edges. I'm actually astonished by how good this is, and I look forward to your future uploads.
A comment on the dragoon rotation: There's no longer a penalty for missing positionals (besides loss of damage like all other positionals). However, you will be punished heavily for breaking your combo. Getting the fifth correct positional is no longer required in the 6.xx patch series. The more detailed explanation is the final hit of your melee or AOE rotation (Fang and Claw/Wheeling Thrust or Coerthan Torment) will always give you the buff Draconian Fire and upgrade True Thrust/Doom Spike to Raiden Thrust/Draconian Fury respectively which is a more powerful version of the same skill. These skills are also the combo starters of your melee/AOE rotation. Executing Raiden Thrust/Draconian Fury also gives you one stack of Firstmind Focus. Two stacks of Firstmind focus give you Wyrmwind Thrust, another oGCD. It's your second most powerful oGCD behind Stardiver and is given to you by correctly doing your rotation. If you mess up your rotation, you're punished for breaking your combo and missing out on Draconian Fire. Not getting Draconian fire means damage loss and also delays Wyrmwind Thrust causing you to miss out on even more damage.
in my experience with taking drg to savage and one ult, its most punishing aspect comes from the extremely tight ogcd timing and punishing deaths at the wrong time a lot. any drift on geirskogal and hi jump is permanent, which can really build up over time and missalign you. and if you die while the eye is half open? well, sucks to suck, basically. i do love it for its burst being basically entirely ogcd based though, so your 123(4567) stays the same no matter what part you're in, instead of memorizing whatever sam has got going on...
Easy thumbs up. I just started FF14 and i am literally wondering what to pick first, and every other video does exactly what you argue; they dont tell me what I want to know. This is 100% what i need. Where are your subs?? This is wonderful work!
As mentioned in the previous comment, this is indeed a clear and straight to the point guide. No distracting stuff in the screen and a very clear voice. Great job! 👏
I'm always struggling as a vet player how to guide new players towards classes I think they'd have the most fun playing. You've done amazing work with this video, and I'll be sure to keep it in my back pocket for those moments in the future 💚 Thanks for all of your hard work!
Yo where WAS this before I hit 30 days in-game time and starting as THM?? Remarkably done, concise and to the point, not absurdly flashy and distracting with extra fluff. I love it! 10/10 definitely someone I'd be happy to party with and ask questions. My sibling got me into XIV after I tried the PS3 version and just couldn't. But he kept at it and I'm glad he did! It's so much fun. I see why people keep introducing other friends to this game.
I think this is an excellent resource for those wanting to know how Jobs play, which I think is crucial to knowing whether they fit a particular player's style. Props for keeping it real -- not too simple, but not too complicated. I've played all of these Jobs and what I'm seeing here rings true.
i am by no means a new player and am familiar with every job to some degree, but i enjoyed watching this video. Its interesting to hear how jobs i know like the back of my hand are explained in very simple, easy to understand terms!

I haven't started playing, but will be once I'm home from vacation. Thanks to you, It will be simple and accesible for me to pick my class of choice. Thanks for the effort and time you put into it! this video was very informative, although the reason why im commenting is because i have the immense need to point out how amazing lot of the effects and animations are. I love the grandness, it fills me with a feeling i can't describe.
This is mostly to help your video as I know all the ins and outs already but I have to say this was a very efficient video that is wonderful for anyone who is curious about a certain job. This is a wonderful guide for a video being less than an hour long haha
Great video! Keep up the good work! I’d love to see more of your content and thoughts on the game. Especially with all of your experience helping new folks
Great Video. Glad to finally see a class guide without a lot of fluff, oversimplification or overcomplication. Just, here's the job, this where you get it, and this is how it plays comparatively. Great work, wasn't expecting such a good video clicking on it.
This was a really good video dog i appreciate it as a sprout looking to pick up different jobs away from my main class. Tysm and im looking forward to your upcoming content ❤️
Fun fact to those who weren't around for HW Machinist: It used to be a 100% random proc "gun mage". It used to have a cast bar from an ability, the weapon skills 1>2>3 each had a 50% chance to proc, and they used to have two turrets that acted more like pets. It's very different from what it used to be, and I sometimes miss that old gameplay. But new Machinist is really fun and makes up for it.
I probably would not be playing FFXIV if it wasn't for that Jocat video. It was the one that put the game into perspective in a way that allowed me to jump in with some understanding of what was *actually* important to me as a player, without getting confused by all the sidequests, FATES, and other jobs until after I had gotten settled in the story.
I am a pretty new player, and bounced previously. I love Monk because of the high potential, never being bored in a fight and the job having your rotation available very early on.
AMAZING VIDEO! I've already got plenty of practice with all jobs but this is still an amazing resource. Really good job, it's criminal you have so few subs!
Hey, I just watched your video on my phone but once I saw the comments I had to come back with a better keyboard to write out what is to be a long comment. First and foremost amazing work, I can tell you put a lot of effort and thought into this video, it is well made, informative without being overwhelming. Now, the reason I start by stating that clearly is to say this, ignore the absolute nit picking comments I've seen on this video. That you've taken the leap and put stuff out is an amazing feat, it takes a lot to jump off that ledge and absolutely nobody has any right to tear that down for stupid nitpick reasons imo. The reason I make a big deal of this is that in recent times, due the worse tendencies of humanity in the anonymity of the Internet has caused content creators to burn out and I hate to see this when there are creative people who want to share and be helpful like you. I know this was a long rant of basically nothing, my tldr is your work is good and you should be proud of it! Please, keep it up and hope to see more content from you in the future. PS 350+ days player (been a while since i checked x3) maining caster here. I like being supportive and adaptive as RDM/SMN during prog and then make big bad boss go boom boom as BLM later, perfecting my understanding of the fight:3
Awesome guide! I'll be referring back to this when checking out other classes I haven't leveled up yet. Also I find it a bit funny when you accidentally got mixed up on 10:24 and saying "Sage's aetherflow" instead of "Scholar's aetherflow"
Great video. I will say you made monk seem like an easy choice for beginners, which it may be for some. As someone who's played most DPS jobs in savage/ultimate at some point during this expansion I would place monk near the top of the complexity scale, maybe second only to black mage.
Hello! Thank you for your comment! This was actually something I was considering adding to the video but cut for time. Monk is probably the job with the biggest gap between its skill floor (minimum skill level required to play the job) and skill ceiling (skill level required to reach the peak). Monk has a very low skill floor for the reasons I listed, but trying to maximize dps on it is a complete nightmare. However, this video is focused on new players, and they won't reach the point that matters for a long, long time. Thank you again for your comment!
@@Audacik :D Blackmage has some complexity throughout, but monk is actually pretty good until near max. It actually has a fairly low floor, its just its got a high ceiling compared to other jobs which only matters as you start doing the hardest content.
Shared this with my partner, gonna share it with another friend. I think this is miles more helpful to a new player than any in-depth guide out there. New players don't need to know the nitty-gritty, they need to know the basics of whatever catches their interest, and _then_ they can go find an in-depth guide after they've tried it out for a bit.
Many other channels' guides focus too much on entertainment, which isn't necessarily bad, but gets in the way of informativeness; in contrast, this video is 😙👌 Definitely watching this channel with great interest. 😌
Subbed because as everyone else is saying the quality here is great and you deserve it, I learned a few things that I hadn't heard in multiple other videos and will definitely watch more
It's nice to see such a well made video from someone who clearly understands each job. Laid out like this I find it hard to take the homogenization argument seriously. Yes healers currently suffer from flat tool kits in most content. Yes everyone bursts at two minutes. Yes Tank design is a bit crowded. Yet every job still plays differently, with fairly decent depth if you want to push it as far as it will go.
A real quick and easy recommendation for someone who really CANNOT pick, and is really new to the game: Healer - White Mage (Conjurer) Tank - Warrior (Marauder) DPS - Summoner (Arcanist, which can also be Scholar, but you don't need to play Scholar. It will level Scholar as a side effect though, and vice versa, so it's a 2 for 1 deal!)
I'd say GNB has more party support than DRK. Heart of Corundum + Aurora + Heart of Light is amazing for helping out your allies. DRK really shines imo for their more consistent dps than GNB. DRKs don't have to worry as much about crit rng and are able to regen mp during downtime. Missing a few big crits and the inability to build any resource during downtime can lead to pretty big dps loss for GNB Really great video! I would love to have seen this back when I started lol.
Loved the video, super useful to give to a friend who's trying to see what to play. Maybe the music is a teensy bit too loud in the mix though? It was a bit distracting ! Subbed, may the algorithm favor you :D
Ngl, I really wish Ninja's Raiton and Shuriken had their roles reversed so that the strong 20s 2-mudra attack would be you throwing a big fricking shuriken instead of you summoning a random lightning bolt through not-aether; would certainly make the job's ranged prowess feel more palpable, especially when the strongest mudra attack is literally a bunch of icy shurikens -- AKA absolutely nothing to do with lightning.
Thank you, thank you thank you thank you so much for not using end game content boss fight videos! I mean I love the overall explanation of the classes, coz it helped me identify that i vibe more with the paladin class thanks to my previous history than i do with dark knight but i didnt know any better coz i dont care about how complex or simple rotations are supposed to be. You really broke down the responsibility of each job per category over the top of their intended archetype functionality. But anyway, i am a newbie to this game. Barely finished the fight against Thordan a while ago and doing Alexander raids right now. Having played the game for a while now, i started watching guide videos finally about different classes and tips videos. And heavens forbid if i could find a video that did NOT spoil me with some future boss video run or anything of that sort. Like literally why are these people so obsessed with showing off their cool shiny weapons in a NEWBIE TUTORIAL VIDEO. I am sorry if i look overly agitated but i really cant express how thankful i am to your video. I am gonna be watching only your guide videos from now on instead of coming across another landmine. Thank you so much for such a concise and non spoiler video!
I call myself "class-fluid" And change my main all the time. I even paired all the classes to Tarot Cards and made a whole macro when I switch classes.
I think a nuance between SCH and SGE that is missing in this is that SGE has a much harder time with big recoveries than SCH would. SGE has the best shields and mitigation but it comes at the cost of pure output. If you're a new healer I do not recommend starting with SGE unless you've already been playing for a while and know fights really well, SGE shines the brightest when you're preventing damage, not recovering from it. Obviously this gap is closed the closer to the level cap you get but it's still something to consider.
@@Jorvalt As the last part of my OP states, that's at level cap. I'm talking about the leveling experience. I stand by my statement that SGE is not friendly for inexperienced healers leveling it for the first time or who do not know the ins and outs of fights.
@@Spookybluelights I don't even agree with that. SGE has some very powerful tools even before level cap, and their base kit is either on par with or sometimes straight up better than SCH.
One thing I find to be missing here and that I've rarely seen in guides like this is "Where/when do you unlock this", while it's good to distinguish which is in the base game/free trial vs the ShB/EW pack is nice, some class can be played from the start, some cannot. They dont all start at the same level and the 3 HW job can only be unlocked after doing all of arr
Thanks for making this video! My wife and I are longtime ESO players and looking for a change of pace. We haven't even fired up FFXIV yet but we both nabbed the starter edition on steam. I main a Warden Healer in ESOs endgame, sounds like White Mage will be my first stop and we'll go from there. My wife will start Bard but I could see her really liking Dancer. #RealMenHeal
Even though I have every job leveled, I still love to check out Job Guides every now and then. And this was a great one. So my only question being, what's the Tank Chest Gear you're using at 11:17? Looks great, would love to get it :D
Legitimately a fantastic video! I love hearing other’s perspectives and I’m looking for videos to send my new sprouts! I’ve been playing for about 4 years now (5k hours in 4 years, Hydaelyn help me) and leveled everything but this is actually great for my sprouts to learn a bit about each class Rip Astro card system tho 😔✊ /respects
Tbh, it's kinda hard to get overwhelmed, just pick a job, play it if you don't like it pick a new one and play that, maybe look up what it's end game looks like too to see if you enjoy the overall design. Search the opener, the rotations, doesn't have to be all at once and you're basically golden.
Hey! Thanks for the comment! I'm not sure if I posted this elsewhere, but I am aware of this. As of right now, basically every major platform ONLY sells Endwalker, with Shadowbringers included. A new player would need to go out of their way to get just Shadowbringers. As such, and because this video is targeted at newer players, I figured it was better to simply list them all as coming from purchasing Endwalker to avoid unnecessary confusion. That distinction is only really relevant if your getting into the weeds, something this video is trying not to do. Hope that logic makes sense!
One thing I would mention is DRG and (I think) AST are getting the SMN level rework next expanion in 7.0 So... this guide will likely be out of date for those jobs come DawnTrail.
I do take some issue with saying playing healers is unpredictable. because 9/10 it is exceedingly preidctable. and boils down to 'raid wide is beig cast'>'prepare to press an aoe ogcd' even the stupidity of randoms is rather predictable, as they can only stand in a puddle that the boss actually created. Meaning unless you do stuff (nearly) blind, simply knowing the fight means your actions as a healer are already predicted. It will change between fights due to different timelines, but there's no sudden surprises like you made it sound in the comparison to dps rotations.
Amazing video! Motivating me to come back to FF14. Only thing is. I currently have a level 60 Dragoon, haven't played or re-logged in since 2021. What would someone like me want to do when I login back for the first time? If I switch jobs do I not have the MSQ for that job since I have already completed a good portion on my dragoon? Would love a video on that, coming back to FF14 and where to start.

Missing a few big crits and the inability to build any resource during downtime can lead to pretty big dps loss for GNB
Really great video! I would love to have seen this back when I started lol.
Fantastic video! It explained all the jobs perfectly!
This was great dude. Very helpful.
Damn that was amazing, very helpful!
Ok played this game over 10 years ago. So trying to get back into it. Loved it then. Have 3 level 50s. A bard, A white mage and a tank.
This was a banger, thank you
Astro is also the most complex because their core mechanics change every other patch it seems like and basically every xpac
Obviously this gap is closed the closer to the level cap you get but it's still something to consider.
and at level cap, you have a massive heal with zoe + pneuma!
Bro SGE literally has more healing throughput than SCH
I don't know if you've ever done Zoe + Pneuma but you should try it sometime.
Your doing the things an your doin' em right. Cheers bud
Don't mind me. Just helping with engagement 😅
Great guide
Very well done!
Ok bro, you get a sub.
#311 in case you get big.
Even though I have every job leveled, I still love to check out Job Guides every now and then. And this was a great one. So my only question being, what's the Tank Chest Gear you're using at 11:17? Looks great, would love to get it :D
This is surprisingly avery good video.
Excellent presentation, thanks for the effort and for sharing 🙂 (Liked and subbed)
Can you do a video about crafting and gathering jobs?
Legitimately a fantastic video! I love hearing other’s perspectives and I’m looking for videos to send my new sprouts! I’ve been playing for about 4 years now (5k hours in 4 years, Hydaelyn help me) and leveled everything but this is actually great for my sprouts to learn a bit about each class
Rip Astro card system tho 😔✊ /respects
a great informative video with no bullshit memes like floor tank
Tbh, it's kinda hard to get overwhelmed, just pick a job, play it if you don't like it pick a new one and play that, maybe look up what it's end game looks like too to see if you enjoy the overall design.
Search the opener, the rotations, doesn't have to be all at once and you're basically golden.
671 subscribers? Why? You did such a great job.
Nice to sub before you get big! ❤🎉
Should have mentioned that monk is one of the most difficult jobs to play properly in endgame
one little note on the video, Gunbreaker and Dancer are listed as 6.x jobs when they're actually 5.x jobs
love the video btw!
Needs more Blu.
Comment for algorithm
Solid guide dude
It will change between fights due to different timelines, but there's no sudden surprises like you made it sound in the comparison to dps rotations.
super good video
it took me three attempts to even get into the game itself in a span of probably a year or two.
I'm overwhelmed just looking at the thumbnail. I can't watch the video. It's too late, go on without me. 😢
Great video.
