when the director asked him to join this movie, he rejected several times. but one condition he asked was speaking korea in the movie. to give more fear to the scarllett when they speak korean which she never understand.
That's cool.I hate it when movies with foreigners have them speak English.Just like in Taken 2.They're Albanians but they talk to each other in English.If I was playing a foreign character,I would speak that foreign language and not have a typical foreign accent when speaking English.

I understood some of it due to my two tours in South Korea. I was what we called a "village rat" as opposed to being a "barracks rat." A "village rat" is the GI who goes into the village/town and gets to know the people, customs, learn some if not a lot of the language, etc. The last time I was there was 1980 and I still get a craving for kimchi.
The magnetism of the Korean actor is incredible. Not to forget the pure masculinity of the men who took her. The female lead was just so stupid she should have left Richard the moment he mentioned her taking the case not be weak and let him put the case on her
Choi Min Sik is such a great actor. I love how Mr. Jang doesn't get the big bad villain introduction, because he doesn't give a shit in this scene. He just wants this ordeal with Lucy off his plate and move on with his day.
And Oldboy just delivers it so chillingly distant
Scarlett is amazing...but his body language and overall presence makes it complete...both of them did a great job.

Mr Jang is someone you never want to meet. This is first class acting because he scared the crap out of me.
it´s really harcore how underrated this movie is...
uh. . . no. yeah, there are a few nicely done scenes (as well as some very badly done). but the entire premise, recapitulating the widely believed but ridiculous notion that we only use 10% of our cerebral capacity, is a total buzzkill. they couldn't find some fundamental premise that didn't reinforce some popular culture ignorance? really? giant fail which taints the entire film.
She can really act and so is he. Great scene.

@@shiruwa4617 When I lived there as an English teacher, I got obsessed with the film Oldboy. This guy, Choi Min Sik was well recognized as one of the greatest actors that S. Korea has ever produced. He's immensely respected. And rightly so! He's fantastic! I ended up renting every single film that he was ever in. He's genuinely one of the best actors in the world...and he tends to choose very interesting projects. I Saw the Devil is really good and so is, Sympathy for Ms. Vengeance, but I'm still to this day in awe of his acting prowess from Oldboy. That film was magnificent!!

My favorite part of that whole scene is that laughing crackhead that had to be shot just to stop him from laughing. That was hilarious. I probably played 5:17 at least twenty times.

@@bookuroooverwatch161 In the sense of the logic, it's terrible. The premise is actually not bad. I always treat movies like a parallel world, anything can happen in there that's different than normal circumstances. Even if the place names are similar with our world.
@gustiyanmahardika2560 Hmm, i guess. If you can suspend your disbelief, then the movie can be more enjoyable. But it's difficult sometimes when the location matches a real world location and they try to pull you in with some kinda sciency fact.

Come on, not even close. Intrigue was promising, but the rest of the movie did not deliver.
How underboss and the cappo restrict their smiles makes me finally laugh out loud. To squeeze those smiles near their boss make those smiles equivalent to a whole day laughter😂

It's interested how Mr Jang and Lucy end up in a role-reversal only a few scenes later. Here, he's in control, calm, and almost annoyed to have to deal with what I'm sure he thinks of as some ignorant American girl. And when she returns to his building later, he's the one scared out of his wits, not understanding anything happening, and she's the calm, cool, and collected one.
She has to be one of the best actresses ever!

I was glad that I could finally understand Korean from foreign movies. Usually, actors who don't speak Korean were trying to speak Korean in foreign movies especially American movies. So it was extremely difficult to understand what they are saying in Korean even though I am Korean.

But his translation's all correct.
As he obviously would have been living in New York, consider it a year of immersion as well as schooling. More than enough for him to learn English that well, and he could already have had some English before arriving.
Choi Min Sik, (Mr. Jang), did a study of Steven Roots character in "No Country for Old Men". The Mr. Jang character in "Lucy" used a great variety of props to support his disinterested, dismissive character, while "No Country for Old Men" accomplished the same with superb acting and succinct dialogue.

Really enjoyed this movie.
Ordinarily I wouldn't care for this type of movie but the director is an interesting one and so I gave it a viewing: turned out I more than liked it--I take the opportunity to watch it whenever it turns up. Special effects, plotting and the acting are superior to movies of this genre and the plotting if really creative. The acting is superior as well.
Scarlet Johansson is like the consumate A lister. Damn good looking and a bloody good actress.
