The Patty Duke Show is an American sitcom that ran on ABC from September 18, 1963, to April 27, 1966, with reruns airing through August 31. The show was created as a vehicle for rising star Patty Duke. 105 episodes were produced, 104 of them airing over three seasons, most written by either Sidney Sheldon or William Asher, who co-created the series.
Patricia "Patty" Lane (Duke) is a normal, chatty, rambunctious teenager living in the Brooklyn Heights section of New York City. Her father, Martin Lane (William Schallert), is the managing editor of the New York Daily Chronicle; Patty affectionately addresses him as "Poppo". Her "identical cousin", Catherine "Cathy" Margaret Rowan Lane (also played by Duke), is sophisticated, brainy, and demure, and her father, Kenneth Lane (also played by Schallert), Martin's identical twin brother, also works for the Chronicle, but as a foreign correspondent. Cathy moves to the United States from Scotland to live with Patty's family and attend Brooklyn Heights High School.
While both girls are identical in physical appearance, their style, tastes, and attitudes are nearly opposite, which is responsible for most of the comedic situations on the show. The remarkable physical resemblance that Patty and Cathy share is explained by the fact that their fathers are identical twins.
While Patty speaks with a typical American accent, Cathy speaks with a slight Scottish accent; not surprisingly, however, both cousins are able to mimic each other's voice. Patty and Cathy also have an additional identical cousin, the Southern belle Betsy (also played by Duke), featured in the season 2 episode "The Perfect Hostess".

As a African American woman, born in 1947. Duke was my generation. She had quite an African American following, and rightfully so. She was one of the best and believable actresses to ever grace the screen, or stage. As a New Yorker I was very proud of her. And even more so after learning about her mental struggles. She had a lot of guts.

I grew up with Patty's show. From the first season, episode one The whole three seasons/years of it. I saw them all and still watch reruns. I don't watch today's TV. I believe the last show on TV I watched was the 8 or 9 seasons of Seinfeld. I hated Friends with their fake NY accent supposedly filmed in NY. When you are a New Yorker you can hear the fake accent and it hurts our ears.. Seinfeld,. they all lived in NY when the show started some born in NY Seinfeld was born and raised in NYC. Some went Hollywood and moved to the west coast. I watch shows from the '70s and '80s. Even the theme songs were positive.

Ah, I remember seeing "The French Teacher" episode either last year or year before but I was glad that I came across it. Patty is so nice and she dresses very well. She looks like a tomboy at times but that first episode with the substitute French teacher was real funny. Her attire is good for the show. They did well with her dresses and long skirts. Her double role is good too. She plays Cathy very well. Should've been in colour because I remember her saying that if the network wasn't so cheap then the show could've gone on a little longer in colour. Such a shame....... Also, what was her teachers name? The one who went off to get married?

Both were also President of the Screen Actors Guild! I wish they were back-to-back so one of them could have handed it off to the other, but there was another president between their terms. William Schallert, president from 1979-1981. Ed Asner, 1981-1985. Patty Duke 1985-1988. I was shocked to hear of Patty's death in late Mar. 2016, at 69, only a few months before her 70th birthday on Dec. 14. And then saddened to hear of William Schallert's passing at 93 on May 8, just over 5 weeks after Patty. I wonder if her passing had an effect on his death. They were so close and good friends for the remainder of their lives after the show ended in April 1966, with reruns through August 31.

A TV show about teenage girls in the 1960's, with a theme sung 1940's-style by a vocal quintet called The Skip-Jacks. (Interestingly enough, they also performed the original theme for "The Flintstones.") The Skip-Jacks recorded on the RCA label, where they achieved moderate success on two Christmas songs with Esquivel and His Orchestra in 1959. They also scored a minor hit in 1960 with "Let's Get Away From It All." All their songs were sung Modernaires-style, with Big Band-style accompaniment.
The group's original lineup included actress/model Stella Stevens, who appeared in such popular films as Girls! Girls! Girls! (1962); The Nutty Professor (1963); The Silencers (1966) and The Poseidon Adventure (1972). She was frequently seen on TV shows like Bonanza, The Love Boat, Newhart, and Magnum, P.I. Stella Stevens also appeared in three Playboy Magazine pictorials, and was Playmate of the Month in January 1960.
